Thank you. As a nurse, I am concerned with how a prescription drug becomes so popular. I'm glad it works for some people... But it's a DRUG, and it will not work universally for all people. You also talked a lot about how you continued to communicate with, and work with your doctor. People need to hear that. I'm sorry it was so awful for you.

Have had gastric issues off and on but not quite bad enough to go off ozempic ! My neighbor also has has good success but her sister was on it and , like you, saw no benefit of weight loss. I do think of it as an amazing drug and again, so sorry for your experience 😬

I'm so sorry. My husband was on it for about 2 years. It has DESTROYED his stomach and intestines. He took it for pre diabetes. He lost weight yes, but it was not worth it. As soon as he stopped, which everyone eventually has to, he gained it all back then some. He has horrible spastic colon and paralyzed stomach. Pain almost every day. It was and is horrible. Cannot leave for anywhere without knowing where a bathroom is. Doctors are prescribing this to everyone. Think twice people.

My husband was on Ozempic for two years for type 2 diabetes. He slowly turned into a sad, anxious little man.
A couple of months ago, there was an Ozempic shortage so the doctor switched him to Rybelsus. It has the same main ingredient as Ozempic which is semaglutide. Within a couple of weeks, my poor husband was so panicky he could barely function. I told him my findings about semaglutide and mood changes and he quit cold turkey. Four weeks later he's feeling much better but isn't completely out of the woods yet. I hope and pray he will make a full recovery and that those drugs haven't made permanent changes to his brain.

When you don’t eat super healthy AND workout, you don’t get all that you need.
You will become anxious and sad and other things when you are being malnourished
It’s sucks because I’ve been on all the sides of this medication and
      It’s very delicate
      It’s a balance
If you aren’t all in and keeping up with water in take, same routine and same simple foods everyday
      This is where troubles begin
I am all over the place, the first time I took it I was doing SO GOOD
my husband got laid off so I wasn’t able to eat like I was before and it was making me so sad I didn’t go workout
      I started again and I didn’t
Have the tools(food) I needed, we were so broke!
It messed me up so bad!!!!
Either you’re ready and all in or don’t do it , it’s seriously our life change and it’s not a miracle drug you have to put in the work and you have to be consistent day and day out for as long as it takes
It’s hard to explain to everyone, but I’ve been on all sides of Ozempic before I started, after I started, I was successful, and I had the worst experience, because I am so inconsistent. Moneywise I Olympic is not for me
Sometime in the future, when I am able to get food that I need to be successful

I'm the one that does in order to control the conversation, and I just say "I'm not interested in talking about my weight". When I was younger, it was forcibly talked about every visit. More and more modern doctors do not hound as much. They just want to make sure the weight isn't new.
And to be fair.. if you have a doctor that makes you feel bad, say something. I straight up say "I have a lot of anxiety about going to doctors because I have been unfairly judged in the past." You are their customer essentially. Idk why people continue to put up with being treated like a second class citizen by doctors. As someone who has worked with doctors and grew up meeting lots of doctors as a patient, YOU have all the power. If you don't like the way you are being treated, tell them that and report them to patient advocacy. Review their ass on Google and any other site that their name pops up. Also remember that doctors need to be reminded that we are humans first and patients second.

Thank you for sharing your story. Five weeks ago, my endocrinologist put me on the drug to lose weight and control my blood sugar. I too have thyroid issues and type 2 diabetes and other medical issues. Day 2 after taking the injection I started with the severe nausea, every single day with feelings of being unwell all of the time. Called the office and was assured that the nausea would go away by week four. Not! Vomiting started along with the nausea. My appetite was gone, and my morning blood sugars was in the 50's and 60's. I could only eat very small meals. I lost only 8 pounds in 5 weeks. I did not take the 5th week dose of the increase to 0.5mg. I see the doctor next month and will tell him then that I will not be taking any more of that drug. I may be fat, but I've lived this long, I'm 67, so I'll die fat with no nausea and vomiting. For those that take it without problems and lose weight, good for you. For those who have problems, I really feel for you.

Jaime I am seeing you for the first time!!! Nice to meet you. I am a registered nurse and so many coworkers are taking Ozempic. I had to try it and had negative effects. I do not have any of the conditions you have but had tremendous gastric and gut pain. Like you, I continued to talk myself into believing it was my fault, my diet, my body, until one day my pain felt like pancreatitis, pain, so intense, went around to my back; I called in sick to work and I finally went off of it. I did lose 25 lbs, but gained 10 back as soon as I went off. After a couple months Ozempic free and am now on Mounjaro day 3. So far so good and no gastric upset. As far as the insomnia, I used to say I will never be able to sleep, but it will happen for you. Love yourself, be kind to yourself and slow down. I believe a lot of weight is stress related. I don't mean to preach and say all with love, but I am 60 and rest much better since I am older. I will pray you rest well and sleep. Much love and God Bless you sweetie. Love your open honest genuine freedom. What a gift.

My doctor is trying to convince me to go on Ozempic. It's been 40 years of eating disorders, dieting and recovery. Know why I want to lose weight? I've looked deeply into this since I stopped obsessing over my body. It's not because I think fat people are less attractive, it's not because I hate my body. I dealt with any fatphobia in my head a loooooong time ago. It's not even for health reasons - my numbers (save for BMI) are perfect. I live a healthy and active life. It's only and entirely because when you're fat, a majority of people treat you like absolute, literal, worthless dogsh*t. There's no escape. It's all the time.
I'll take your experience into consideration, because most reviews just seemed too... positive. I'll admit I don't have digestive issues and might not be as likely to have trouble, but it's worth paying attention to how I feel if I do try it out. Much later. After the shortage is dealt with.

Long time viewer! I wanted to add something I think would be important.
I work in clinical research and was working on a study for this specific drug. The one thing that was repeated over and over at the conferences, meetings, study guides, etc. was that it causes GI issues for most users. In order to maintain the best possible results for the drug, we had to coach our participants on diet, exercise, and *honesty*. We encouraged (not forced, but it was HIGHLY encouraged) our subjects to avoid spicy foods and follow a healthy diet. We offered “goodie bags” with materials that helped them as their trial progressed. It was VERY important that we took time to explain the GI side effects and they gave us every measure on how to reduce them if a participant began having them. I do not think it should be so widely available because it is a longterm and sometimes lifelong commitment. A lot of people gain weight back after stopping. It’s hard seeing everyone receive this drug so casually when in reality it should be handled with great care. Thank you for being so transparent!! All that glitters is not gold!

My sister began having thyroid pain and she had some growth on it, now she has to take euterox. I questioned it and stopped the second I started literally peeing blood. It is a serious drug and has serious side effects. I am beyond shocked at how this is easily purchased and self diagnosed by people for weightloss (and I see even family members taking this just to lose 20lbs) this is dangerous and needs to be controlled for only people who are candidates for it.

So sorry your sister has gone through so much. People don’t understand how horrible gastroparesis is & I don’t think believe it could happen to them. The reason there is a lack of appetite is because the food you ate just sits in your stomach. You will eventually have to throw it all up or it will move through the intestines very quickly & cause very watery diarrhea. That means no nutrients have time to be absorbed. Weight loss, loss of strength & electrolytes are messed up. Dangerous drug imo.

Maunjaro is a slightly different molecule, with a slightly different acting mechanism but that produces similar results.
As with any medication there will be people who have side effects, some mild, some major.
There is no longer a supply shortage as Lilly opened a manufacturing plant here in the US specifically to produce Ozempic and the supply chain issues have also been sorted out.
Maunjaro is currently undergoing trials to get put on the market as a weight loss medication as well.
More and more the medical community is coming to see that being overweight is actually a disease state for many people that 'diet and exercise' just won't 'cure'.
Many people that are helped with these medications to get to a 'healthy' weight (and I am putting these in quotations because to a certain extent weight is a societal issue that we absolutely need to work on but until then these medications can help those who don't want to deal with the stares and the judging, anymore.) will need to stay on these medications in a maintenance mode just like people with diabetes often have to take some form of medication for life. The same for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic pain, arthritis, etc.
    Again.
There will always be people these will not work for but we need to stop shaming people (and I am in no way intimating that you are) for choosing medication as a way to control and maintain weight because it absolutely is a disease state just as real as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, lupus, etc.
Also, it is important here to note that despite what her title says, she didn't take Ozempic. She was taking something from a compound pharmacy, and though the active ingredient is the same, those inactive ingredients do have an effect on the body and can also cause side effects. For her, though, I will say that she is probably one of the unfortunate people who just had a strong negative reaction to the medication. It can happen. In my clinic it's about 5% of our patients that we've tried it on who either can't take it at all or who are limited to the lowest dose.
Thank you, Jaime for sharing your story and bringing awareness to yet another tool people can use if it works for them in our fight for physical and mental health, as well as the risks that all medications and treatments can have.

When I reached a health set point weight, it became clear that my weight struggles were an outward expression of internal illnesses. After these illnesses were brought to light and properly treated, I've had no issue maintaining the most active, healthiest livestyle I've ever had.

Being pre-diabetic that comes up with just that 1 diagnosis, + any other diagnosis that you have. It’s exhausting sometimes to just exist & find the will power to push through. I hope you get to a healthy weight. Please read the first law of thermodynamics. You are not gaining 15 lbs for no reason. You are consuming enough calories to gain those 15 lbs. @@priscillaflores7656 I'm glad that this is your story, but you can't use that to beat it over people's heads. While being in a calorie deficit or surplus determines whether you'll lose or gain weight and the law of thermodynamics explains this, it doesn't account for the things that affect whether someone can get into a deficit/surplus. Having PCOS can reduce your metabolic rate by up to 700 calories. And this may take time, there are countless stories of young women who were thin but hairy as teenagers when they first got their diagnoses, but as they got older and the metabolic symptoms of PCOS kicked in like increased insulin resistance and decreased metabolic rate, they packed on the weight. One of the things that helps doctors diagnose the condition is significant weight gain.
On the other hand, I have experience with a mild form of hyperthyroidism that really won't give me other symptoms except heat sensitivity and dropping 30+ lbs in six months without changing my intake. And I understand that to be because my metabolic rate increased because of this condition. So it's not all about behaviours. You can even see Jaime here talking about being on a 300-400 calorie deficit from her usual intake on this drug, but still losing very little after several weeks. It isn't about "excuses".

    • @sdc4089
      @sdc4089 Před rokem +52

@@priscillaflores7656 good for u. But hyperthyroidism isn’t the same as PCOS or Cushing’s or Prader Willi’s syndrome, etc. Instead of assuming people aren’t taking accountability ask yourself what makes you feel comfortable enough to tell another person on the internet what they’re doing wrong without knowing their medical history? Some people DO gain weight for no reason and end up having to see a professional after trying counting calories and learning about nutrition. It’s how many people end up getting tests and later a diagnosis.

Most insurance plans don't cover Ozempic or Wegovy, and it's around 1200 out of pocket. Anyone can buy from the peptide labs, it's around $90/month. You're using regular insulin needles so no problems with shortages. Semaglutide usage is exploding, it is far higher than it was when the shortage began. Doctors are building weight loss programs into their businesses where for $299 - $499 per month you can visit their office weekly for an injection of generic compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide. After feedback from our first few patients about it, and a staff member being on a different semaglutide product, it's the first thing that our pharmacists warn people about when they start the therapy. Doctors need to know better about what they prescribe. If they are going to keep refusing to listen to pharmacists, then they need to become more well-versed themselves
Edit: I do want to clarify, for most (from what I've seen) those side effects do go away over time. But, I really need to lose weight to be healthier. I need to not only be there for my small kids, but I need to interact and get in the floor and play with them, too. Which is hard right now.
Once I hit 200 I REALLY felt it. Energy decreased (even more than it already was) walking harder, and even just the way my arms rested away from my body. I also have a bad back and heart disease and I know this is just further straining it.

I tried the hormone suppressing drug Lupron as a last step before getting a hysterectomy because of gnarly endometriosis. That was the first time since I was a kid that I didn't hear that little voice saying "eat it!". Being on Lupron was so scary because of the hideous side effects and how it takes over your whole body, but it was neat seeing how other people live. Nothing bothered me or made me worry, I had a neutral measured response to everything, my energy levels were constant, and I only ate for practical reasons. I was like "ooohhh now I understand how my husband and dad and brothers move through life..."

Actual diabetics that need this drug will also experience anxiety so this has nothing to do with gut feeling. Each time I had to increase dosage I’d have violent vomiting the next day followed by nausea for rest of week. I finally decided to change dosage by very small increments instead by manufacturer recommendated dosage. Constipation was problem more than diarrhea but had both. Also “sulphuric burping”. Because food was stuck in stomach the gas builds up and horrible smelling/tasting burps. I’ve learned to not eat much at all the day or two following shot. I’ve lost 30 lbs but not an easy way. I did give myself week long drug vacation when constipation got to be 4-5 days. That helps and my controlling dosage.

      @gracieb.3054 Před 10 měsíci +3

I'm sorry, but a prescription medication that has gone through many safety and efficacy trials is not the same as an over the counter supplement that was available b/c the FDA does not regulate any supplements.
Btw, having side effects are not the same as causing actual organ damage. The body can acclimate to a medication and thus side effects can go away. Sometimes not. All of our bodies have different chemistries and that effects how people react to the same medication. For example, Ms. French mentioned that she already had colitis. If I were her doctor, I would not advise anyone with any type of colitis to take a medication that is known to cause abdominal side effects. Frankly, after hearing about Ms. French's colitis, I was not shocked at all that this didn't work for her.
Lastly, I also wonder whether Ms. French took Ozempic b/c she has diabetes or just wanted to lose weight. As someone who has extreme diabetes, I know that there is a difference between the two. I am insulin dependent and have to take massive amounts of long term and short term insulin, plus 3 oral medications. Plus I have to be on a very low carb diet. Yet I am still fat. But b/c I am very sick, I am focused on how the medication might help my illness. The weight loss would only be a bonus. I know that when I started taking Janumet I was very sick for weeks. Constant nausea and abdominal pain. It was really bad, but if I could get used to it, I knew it would help. Thankfully, the side effects went away and it helped a lot. I wanted to clarify that there is a big difference between taking this to lose weight and taking this to treat a deadly disease.

It was being prescribed as an off-label drug, exactly what is being done with Ozempic. Prescribing it for weight loss is considered off label, but apparently is legal at the doctor’s discretion.

@@gracieb.3054 safety trials...doesnt mean too much long term because a decade or two later its hard to isolate. There are still effects people wont know if its because of ozempic or other things. Just like ssri's you will report it but they will just list it as a rare side effect and pass. The motivation is money. There are countless class actions against big popular drugs; what works amazingly for 10 million people will injure 2 million pple etc. Benzo's are drugs too. So is phentanyl. Only people who need it should use it otherwise nothing will replace exercise and decent diet. Playing with insulin will come at a cost. I think people should try it but do tests on your blood sugar and balance it out with workout and diet instead of high doses.

The pain and nausea and inability to get any relief whatsoever was terrifying. Just shittin and puking all over the place. Each incident lasted EXACTLY 12 hrs and made me pray for death or relief! I lost like 15 lbs and have kept it off but that shit is for the birds!!!

I was given MJ also. My first week I was so sick I could t leave my house. I had diarrhea about 100 times. Stomach cramps were the worst I’ve had in my life. Plus I could have still eaten a pizza. 😂. The cramps and diarrhea were the worst. I would never take it again.

Jaime, thank you for sharing & detailing your experiences while taking this drug. Much needed to be aired to help educate others so that in their desperate attempt to fight their obesity with this drug, that they don’t ignore these & other symptoms. So wanting it to work for them that they deny what their body is telling them! Thank you.

I'll also say that a ton of my family had taken it and lost a ton of weight and haven't had bad reactions, but that wasn't my experience. It was incredibly awful, and I spent a week in enormous pain! I've had stomach issues my entire life, but my doctors haven't figured it out yet. Maybe I'll have to look into colitis. Thank you for being honest so people like me who had a terrible experience don't feel like we're just being babies.

Oh, I have colitis. It's awful. I hope you figure out whats wrong and I hope you don't have colitis. I don't wish that on anyone.

I’ve had stomach issues my whole life too. I recently started the low FODMAP diet to figure out what’s triggering my issues. It’s helped! So far it’s dairy, wheat and apples.

I don't know about Ozempic, but the warnings with Monjauro specifically state not to use if you have any digestive issues.

Hey!! I’m on Ozempic… for diabetes, with very minimal issues… and I’m thankful! I’ve seen the gradual weight loss since going up to 2 mg. Sadly, I am one of those who had a big gap in taking my meds because of the increased use of the drug for weight loss… that seems to have resolved, thankfully!
I have always had issues losing weight. Only two things have worked for me: intermittent fasting (I currently do this) and seeing a nutritionist who gave me instructions to eat 6 mini meals daily… drink my water… and gave me fat and calorie boundaries… She told me to eat my first mini meal no later than 30 minutes after getting up with at least 8 oz of water….and to eat no sooner than two and a half, but no longer than three hours apart. Nothing after 7pm.
I lost 15 pounds the first month. She told me my metabolism was lazy (😂🤣) and I had to eat to get it going again. It worked… but it took a ton of meal prep… I ate a lot of fresh veggies, nuts and proteins. No caloric drinks between meals.
Love your channel!! You will find what works for you! 🎉

How quickly did they bring you up to 2mg? Did you not lose any weight on 1mg?

I appreciate this heads up! My Dr. has suggested Ozempic to get me through the BMI hoop for knee replacement and labral tear surgery. I have IBS and food sensitivities, so I already poop my pants spontaneously, but it's good to know to take extra precautions (ie. changes of clothes). I also appreciate knowing you didn't lose much weight. I am notoriously resistant to weight loss meds so knowing I need to manage expectations is super helpful. I also have an eating disorder that's being triggered by this whole process.
I hope you are healed from your ordeal quickly.
