Id like to point out that the sequel to this is "Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo" which coined the humorous phrase of adding "electric boogaloo" to any unwanted movie sequel. In case anyone else knew that phrase but was unsure of it's origin.

Acting is cringe but the dancing was revolutionary then and really helped bring break dancing mainstream
That’s pretty new. Makes me think they hired based on dancing skills not acting skills. Kind of like when movies use real bands to play the fake band. Their acting is always awful but the music is great

This movie is iconic for all street dancers. It shaped my dance career growing up. I got to train with a number of these dancers who are LEGENDS in the community.

As someone who was a teenager in the '80s, all I can say about the hair and fashion you've just witnessed is "the drugs were good and Coke still had real sugar."
One of my favorite memories ever, my cousin and I watched this VHS tape when we were kids. After the movie ended, we busted moves (ehm, TRIED to bust moves)...he broke his arm and I threw up the 2 liters of Orange crush I drank all over my moms floor. This is great, thanks Jaime!!! x

This was a staple in our house growing up. My mom was a dance teacher and any dance-themed movie was fodder for our development. We loved this movie! Another one that you need to see is Fast Forward. You’ll love it!

I love this! As a child of the 80's this was one of my favorites and because we had Breakin, Fame, Perfect, Heavenly Bodies etc. I grew up thinking we would all be dancers. Unfortunately that didn't happen but I still love the movies. Please do You Got Served!!

This was a total favorite of mine in the 80's. I actually had a nearly the same exact outfit Kelly wears to the beach. A lot of my fashion choices were based on these movies that I thought were the coolest thing ever.

I went to see this at the theater when it came out & then went to see the sequel at the theater as well. I had the biggest crush on Ozone, like huge!! We lost Adolfo Quinones in 2020. Who remembers seeing Ozone & Turbo in Chaka Khan’s video for “I Feel For You”?
Adolfo had a decent career as a dancer in a bunch of movies.

I was watching videos of him on Soul Train on CZcams with a friend of mine and a couple weeks after that he passed away! It was just weird timing!!

My brother and I watched the heck out of Breakin' and Breakin' 2 back in the 80s. HBO just played them over and over again. They're so cheesy but so fun.
I still think we should settle our disputes with flashy street dancing duels. My Breakin' name is Froot Loops. I thought this movie was so fresh and rad when it came out. We saw it at the mall, and then went skating at Skate City afterwards. We had a severe outbreak of Crush Groovin' at the elementary school after it's release. Residual side effects include compulsive poping and locking.
Breakdancing is an Olympic sport now, BTW, so bad call from Shooter McGavin.
The next time I get barked at when I go to the mall, I'll just recreate the dance battle from this movie 😂😂

Loved this movie as a child in the 80s. My parents bought me and my sister the used VHS of Breakin' and Breakin' 2 from a local video rental store. These movies got me into the dance movie genre.

Haha, my husband used to break so this and Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo are his childhood. He said the guy standing next to Jean Claude VD was also in Blood Sport (1 of my childhood movies).

I freaking loved this movie…the Chaka sound track, leotards, poppin’ and lockin’. I literally thought I would be able to learn the dolphin so I could get to school and flop down the hallway to the delight of all the popular kids that I wasn’t accepted by. Just a weird girl and a dream.
I am CACKLING. My favorite so far is 6:21 when they cropped out the dog, but left in the petting motion, “is he petting a dog?” Y’all are pulling the happy tears right out of my face.
This movie was actually a hit back in the day! We had all kinds of dance movies then, from the obvious Saturday Night Fever to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun with S.J.P. And Breaking 2 was huge!

I lived through the 80s once... I wouldn't want to do it again. All this stuff looked Goofy to me at the time, but now it's a new level of hysterical. You guys are just great! I'm borderline obsessed with Shabba Doo. He just died this year. They never disclosed the cause. I was devastated! And the woman who played "Special K Kelly" was a SOLID GOLD dancer! HAHAHA You should totally rip/review old episodes of Solid Gold! I grew up on that show, it did NOT age well!!

That was my FAVORITE movie when I was young! I was allowed to rent 1 movie on weekends when my mom rented some & I got this one every single time! I think back now wondering why she never just bought it bc I bet she spent thousands renting it over the years. I still watch it today!

I’m soooo happy! We watched this movie on repeat when I was a teenager! Turbo & Ozone was our biggest crush!!! Some of these dancers toured with “Fresh Fest II” and we went to that too! Saw Fat Boys, Whodini, and others we LOVED it!🤣🤣🤣❤️

The only time I had ever heard of breakin.... I was a teenager and VH1 had a series called I love the 80s. Each episode was each year of the 80s. They talk about the biggest songs, movies, toys, cars lol whatever it may be. And Breakin was one of them. Lol apparently UT was huge.

The actress who plays Kelly is Lucinda Dickey, who just happens to play Cory the mascot in one of my favorite slashers, CHEERLEADER CAMP! I knew I recognized her and it was driving me crazy! lol
