- The Service Trailer Brake System message came back after we changed the brake control module in the last video. This time we clean the trailer harness connector and replace the brake control switch on the dash. So far, so good. Haven't had the message pop up in a week now. I'll keep everyone posted if the error visits us again.

Starting week three now since I changed out the switch on the dash and still has not dang at me. Looks like the switch was the problem.
Love your attitude
I appreciate the solutions . I will save this video and I have subscribed! I also would appreciate if you consider making the video using the “deselecting” the option on the DIC. I posted on your first video
Will be added to my follow up video.
I just got my switch replaced today, good luck to both of us...lol
Mine was going off constantly on my 2015 1500, so I unplugged it for a minute so far its been 3 weeks not going off! Fingers 🤞
This lady is watching! The dealer wanted a ridiculous amount of $$ to "fix" the dinging. So I started looking up how to do this myself. I appreciate the video :)
Yes!!!! I’ve doubled my female viewers!!! I hope my videos help you fix the issue. Be sure and check your fuses. I had one of my viewers comment that he tried all my suggestions but it ended up being loose fuses according to the dealer. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
You’re welcome! I appreciate you watching the video. Hope it help save you some money and sanity.
Changed out the module inside the frame last year. Changed out the dash gain controller this year. Still had message. Took it to the Chevy dealer. They went through everything. Road tested good. Hooked up my trailer and squeezed the gain button and there was the message. No brakes either. Drove about ab hour and a half. Parked in a Costco parking lot. Tight fit. Started to move and pulled my breakaway switch. Came to a full halt. Plugged back in and now the brakes are are working great. Can see the gain on the screen so just left everything alone. Fingers crossed.
chasing this for 2 years now in my2008 silverado 2500hd. Several items fixed, grounding, relay, control switch and each time fixed it for awhile. Was stuck this year when I went through all the fixes and nothing worked. Then I saw something somewhere about the brake fluid being low causing issues. Checked it and fluid is okay so I cleaned the tank and saw wire going into a small object and wiped the outside of it along with some other cleaning. Now I have been running with the alarm for the last 2 months every time I used the trunk and after I did the cleaning I have been 5 days with no alarm. My thought is that is the monitor of the brake fliud and the contact was not contacting due to corrosion. I have not disconnected it and cleaned inside the connector yet but will do if the alarm comes back just to prove it was the problem
That makes sense too I suppose. There are several issues that cause the warning from what I'm seeing in the comments. Great input from everyone. Keep us posted on what you find out.
There is no question, this problem should have been a recall. GM has to take responsibility for this one because so many, including myself, have had the same sh#t happen.
Seems to be pretty common I’m come to notice since posting those videos.
Dude this video could have been like 3 minutes long. It's over 12, I watched the whole thing and was genuinely entertained... haha thanks.
Thanks man! Glad you liked it and very appreciative that you took time to comment!
Clean out the plug on the bumper. Did that and haven’t had a problem since
This guy is great!!
No Rick... you are great!! I'm just kinda OKish.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 ty like your aty
I like you'd attitude 🤣🤣🤣
I changed out the switch in mine. The warning stopped for almost two weeks, now this morning it came back again. Damn!
Damn it!! Was it pretty consistent before you replaced the switch? Mine would only do it after the interior would heat up sitting in the parking lot at work. That’s what kind of lead me to the switch after replacing the module didn’t fix it like most I saw on the internet.
Greatness thanks!
You’re quite welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting!!
You’re welcome!
Did it fix the problem?
My trailer system service comes on , went to rain...it goes crazy..off and on
did it fix it
I was wondering if your breaking light and ABS and trac- control lights came on?
Never had those lights come on, just the Service Trailer Brake warning.
Hey there. Just wanted to follow up on this and see if the issue has returned? I am experiencing this problem on my 2021 Chevy 5500 flat bed. Literally just got it, has 83 miles. I only get the issue with a trailer in tow however. Let me know how it going. Thanks
It’s been a little over a week now and not a peep. So far so good. I hate to hear you having issues with a band new truck.
Now that the video was a year ago…. Did the switch replacement fix the dinging problem? This is happening to my 2015.
It did fix mine. Never came back after replacing the switch. Does yours only happen when the interior heats up? That’s how I figured out mine was the switch. Was fine if the truck was left in the garage. If it sat in a parking lot and the interior heated up, it would start going off. Other folks just had a bad fuse and some commenting that they just cleaned the rear plug at the car wash.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 mine will do the doing if the truck interior is hot or cold. It’s very infrequent. I’ve sprayed out the connector at the car wash and used electronic cleaner also.
The switch seems like an inexpensive item to try replacing. I will check the fuse first though.
Did you order the switch or is there a store that carries it? My truck just started doing that and the battery died on me yesterday i don’t know if that’s related or not
@nitrobladex I ordered my switch from Amazon. Came in the next day. I’m not sure if any of the parts stores carry it, I have pretty much given up on them. I can get OEM parts cheaper than their brand parts.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 awesome thank you for getting back at me this fast. I will order my part right now.
@nitrobladex glad to help. Least I could do since you took the time to watch my video. Hope it helps fix your problem.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 so mine ended up being the battery. Just replaced it which btw it’s a pain to replace on my 2017 Sierra. But it has not given me the light at least til now.
@nitrobladex that’s a new one I’ve heard now. I’m going to need to gather these comments up for anyone researching this issue. That’s for taking the time to share your fix. Yes… swapping the battery is way more of a pain than it needs to be.
Could also be bad plug or the module under back of truck
I swapped the module in the first video. The switch fixed mine in particular. There are a number of things that cause this issue. Lots of great info in the comments of the videos.
Well did it work???
Replacing the brake controller switch fixed it. Warning did come back.
👍🏻That's it guys and ladies. I doubt theres any ladies. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm going through the same thing here with my truck.
I could be wrong, but my own wife doesn’t even watch my videos….sooooo.
@@jakeh9166 hopefully the video was useful.
if you don't tow, does it matter to fix it immediately?
No, it’s just extremely annoying.
Hey has the issue came back any over the last year now? My 2015 just started doing this at 100k.
Never heard a peep out of it after swapping the switch.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 thanks buddy appreciate the help!
You’re welcome. Much more appreciated you taking time to watch my video.
So since it kept dinging you after the rear module would you say your problem was the dash after all? Trying to avoid your 2 step fix! God Bless and thanks.
I ended up cleaning the switch with some electronics cleaner, applied new dielectric grease and not a single issue now.
Is it possible just to unplug it
Not sure. I would assume unplugging the dash switch may work as a band aid, but unplugging the module would cause the warning as well. Either way, the system is unusable if you need to use trailer brakes.
did it come up when you had a trailer on mine did today and i had no breaks even when i squeezed could this be my issue also
@Rocky Burke, I didn’t have a trailer hooked up when mine came on. It seem to come on when my interior would heat up sitting in the sun at work. If yours is happening when you hook up, maybe it’s just a dirty connection. I’ve had a couple comments saying they just cleaned the connections and got it to go away.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 yeah its all clean but i noticed moisture on the circuit board wonder if thats it
@Rocky Burke those two don’t usually play well together.
Just think of the money people have spent so far on diagnostics replacing perfectly working modules and switches?
Still no permanent fix from GM or recall
Too bad I don't manufacture modules and switches...
My truck has the same problem
Heck out the comment sections the videos, there is a bunch of good info in them.
I replaced that on my chevy silverado 3500hd and it didn't fix my situation 😤 😒 yall know what else I need to do to fix it? This Girl needs help and I'm too ga darn stubborn to take it in to the shop. Also it's showing a message to service 4 wheel drive and I replaced the actuator and that didn't fix that problem earlier lol like I said this girl needs help 😄
Bobbie Jo what did you replace? The switch in the dash fixed mine. I’ve had some comments that cleaning the bumper connection at the car wash fixed theirs, some the module, and one said his ended up being a fuse. When is yours coming on? Mine only came on after being outside in a parking lot all day at work. When my interior would heat up, it would trip the trailer brake warning.
Johnson, I replaced that part with a "GM Genuine Parts 15926102 Trailer Brake Control Switch Assembly" and I also replaced "Chevrolet GMC Cadillac Isuzu Front Four Wheel Drive Actuator DIY Solutions TRP00104" because a message saying to service 4 wheel drive came on so I replaced both of them same day and both message are still on 🤦♀️ idk if I have to have a computer to turn the message off or does it automatically after replacing the parts. My truck is always out in the weather because it doesn't fit in the garage. I'll try air duster to clean the bumper connection to see if that works. I also replaced the two 30 and 40 fuse because I seen the same message in the comment, hoping that was it and it wasn't. There's one more part, a "General Motors Genuine Parts 20904439 Trailer Brake Continue Relay Assembly" that ill replace before i start looking in to the wiring. I figure if it was the wiring, it would give me the message service trailer wiring like it did in my old Jeep but I guess GM doesn't 🤷
Couldnt you just unplug the switch
Never tried it. I’ll try and plugging mine and see if that will cause any warning to pop up.
@@jazzlejohnson5364 mine just started yesterday. Traction control, brake light and oil dinging. Goes on dings then off after a bit then on again. Holy cow so annoying!!!
I did, and plugged back in no issues
@@rickjeckel5281 glad it worjed for you. Im tak8ng mine to the shop. It didnt work for me
@@lightningsurvivor1432 damn sorry man, good luck!
My 17 just started doing this. Switch is on the way. It sucks this is a very common malfunction… and not a word from GM. A$$holes!!!
It must be a very common issue from how well these videos are doing. I had no idea.
www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem we all need to band together and try and force a recall, tens of thousands of people have the same issue and GM does nothing.
My 17 Started this yesterday, only when I apply brakes in reverse
@@kilosmoker switch on the dash is kinda cheap, just get it! It has solved my issue so far, been two weeks now.
@Chad Keller That's odd. Mine would flip out after sitting in the heat of the day. My guess is bad solders in the switch that may have been losing contact as the interior heated up???
Too much BS get to the point
