I had the same problem. To fix it I sprayed electrical cleaner in the slot between the two knobs. No more message and no more ding ding ding ding, and the brake system works perfect.
Did you have any problems starting your Tahoe when the Service alert was going off? Same ‘service trailer brake system’ happened to me recently, but my car (2018 Tahoe) struggled to start. Battery finally died last night, but we had it installed only a year ago. I’m wondering if there’s either poor wiring in other parts of the car, or if the faulty trailer brake system was drawing too much power from the battery.
Alot of electronic problems could happ with a bad battery, maybe get it tested at local part store and if it fails consider replacing it. On my tahoe the parking assist was acting up not working right saying error , then every other crank it would barely crank on cause of bad battery. Changed and all those issues went away. on my f150 the power assist error would come up every now and then, and some random errors, all was because of a bad battery also.

Can u just unplug the switch so it will quit digging? Since I'm not using trailer?

What happens if I just disconnected?
Till today 1/14/24 after swapping it, it has not come back on. Cheap amazon swap.
