hi gareth. your doing an excellent job with the food reviews. me and my good lady love watching your vids. keep up the good work you are helping people . thanks again
Brilliantly helpful as always Gareth! I grabbed some of the Asda fish fingers the other week but haven't cooked them yet. Glad to know I made a savvy purchase!
Fish finger sarnies were the best as a kid - white bread, butter and ketchup or push the boat out and go for tartar sauce - if loving them is wrong I don't want to be right! 😁 Excellent & informative review BFG! 👍👍👍
Thanks for this. I'll try the Asda ones. I love watching your videos they always make me laugh. I found the sound of the crunching whilst chewing the fish fingers particularly amusing on this one. Keep up the good work!
Great review Gareth. Birds Eye do use fillets rather than minced fish but that's about the only difference I think. I've just picked up a box of Asda Essentials fish portions in batter. Amazing value, very tasty and purchased based on your Asda Essentials reviews, although I don't believe you've tried these yet. Many thanks for your work mate 😊
Brings great memories of when I was younger of teatime with fish fingers, peas and chips oh happy days. You can buy three boxes of ASDA and have change. Me after your review I would go for ASDA.
I must admit that I'm a bit of a snob with fish fingers. I can't eat them unless they're cod or haddock. Get them on buttered brown bread with burger sauce...trust me it works!!
Like a lot of folks out there For me it’s fish finger sandwiches with tartare sauce (ain’t I posh 🤣🤣) Asda all the way for me 👍🐟🐟 Great review as usual 😊
I've been a fan of the humble fish finger since I was a child and I still love them today.I recently did my own version of the Macdonalds Filet o Fish using fish fingers and it was really delicious.
I used the essential fish fingers chopped up into 4 pieces each, with a tin of lentil soup an onion & some spices & it made a lovely 'fish stew'. Dead cheap too, less that £1 worth of ingredients. Love this channel.....👍
Another good comparison video 👍. Just had McCains frozen chips, birds eye fish fingers and heinz beans for my dinner, it was lovely for a change. I know they're all name brands but i do enjoy trying alot of the food you review.
I was shocked that they had the same amount of fish especially as the prices were a world apart! I've had Asda own brand fish fingers on many occasions and I really like them! Great for a fish finger butty too, yum! Great video, thanks for uploading 🙂
Gareth, once again you show the nation that you can get bargain food at cheap prices. The only thing that tends to happen is when loads of people buy the cheaper food it does tend to start going up in price(hopefully not by much though). 😁
I normally buy bird's eye" the ones on offer" but after watching BFG, I will try the cheaper ones for sure... to be fair, birdseye aren't all that! Thanks BFG 👍🏽 keep them coming 👌
I’ve tried the Asda’s just essentials fish fingers last few weeks back. they aren’t bad at all for 69p. They sell the JS cod fish cakes at £1.10 have a try at them if you like them.
Hi there what a good video I have never like fishfingers all my life I don’t like frozen fish neither much from the supermarket but I love the review keep up the good work
I discovered you about a month ago by accident. This is brilliant as usual. Entertaining, not too technical and just enough maths that virtually everyone can understand. Just a bit cheesed off you didn't mention your best catch phrase. "By all means, go ahead."
Gareth, your vid's are VERY entertaining and very educational, trouble is, I turn off my PC feeling hungry and I think I am putting on extra weight!; damn good viewing though.
I used to work weekends in a Tesco in the mid 1970s, and their "own brand" food products at that time were really bad quality. How things have change, today I think that the own brands products are mostly as good or better, than the named brands were back then.
Many thanks again for doing the work. At 4 x the price I expected a silk ribbon with each birds eye. With peas, chips and vinegar, there’s no way anyone would know the difference. Please note, family of 4 having 2 packs these twice a week would save 200 bloody pounds, and that’s just for starters. The sooner Tesco start comparing their basket with your basket, sod Lidl, the better off we all will be. At least if the telly is dodgy, I get an hours entertainment eating through your comparison lists. Ta.
Nice one Gareth the Birds Eye fish fingers you had there are the Omega 3 variant, the Birds Eye Cod fish fingers are alot more expensive I paid £7.50 for 30 the other day which worked out £3.10 more than the Omega 3. cheers Gareth.
I had 6 of these last night for my Tea with Chips, mushy Peas and Scampi (i forgot to order my just essentials fish last week.lol)=lovely. They`re a regular for me and I highly recommend them. If I fancy a snack attack at night i`ll grill 4 and have them in a wrap with sauce. Ideal if you`ve got kids or need to watch the pennies as they make such a cheap and healthy meal.
Hi Gareth a great review, i never buy birds Eye all ways the cheaper ones and i only have them in butties and by the time i put red sauce on it or in your case brown sauce there's no difference at all just like you said, that was as an eye opener i always thought that birds Eye had cod in them 🍻🙏
I find Birds Eye brand fascinating in the UK; Clarence Birdseye started the frozen foods industry after WW II here in the US. We still have Birds Eye over here but it's almost totally frozen veggies.
Gaz✌️ great comparison but I'm too fussy mate, it has to be cod, pollock also called coalfish(coley) or saithe is a bit grainy for me anyway, but if your not a fussy so and so like me😂 then that was a proper bargain really. Great stuff as always mate👌🍻
I prefer Birds Eye FishFingers, I find them juicier and more succulent. And I think they are cheap enough to have a few in a meal and it still working out quite cheap. Somethings it's worth paying that extra for if you make savings elsewhere.
Love you, love your videos. Not a fan of fish fingers. My supper would be a decent slab of fresh fish. I remember as a kid, herring roe, or cod roe on toast, for tea on Saturday. Yum yum!
Usually have Fish Finger Butties Evey now n then ( Council House Kid )...Deffitnaly Gonna Try The Cheaper.. Savings are Massive .Glad I Found Your Channel..
Thank you for this comparison. With such a price differential and similar taste, why pay more? The question arises: who is the bigger fool? Until recently I bought Sainsbury's own label pollock fish fingers in the 30-pack. When I first started buying them three or four years ago I think they cost around the £2.90 mark per pack, but they increased to £3.30 and again, recently, to a whopping £4.00. Needless to say I've voted with my wallet. Better to wait and have the occasional fish supper methinks.
Years ago I went fishing in the sea with my mates on a boat. We caught a pollock. It was big but very bland! I've since read that they are used as a cheap alternative to cod or haddock. I'm pretty sure I've seen fish fingers with "cod" on the front of the packaging.
When it comes to fish fingers, I always buy Birds Eye. Reason being I've tried some lower priced fish fingers and in most cases I've had to throw them out as they were quite horrible. One low price pack of about 38 fish fingers, I bought for £1.00 were so horrible I threw them out and the birds wouldn't even eat them. LOL. Thanks for your review!
Hi there we’re new to your channal but will b watching u in future your so funny 😂entertaining mate. Watched the one with your brother with the hot things omg 😱 noooo. I said omg it’s made the poor lad sick ha ha. Keep em coming mate Carol & Barry cleveleys
Tescos Hearty Food Co value brand - 10 fish gingers currently £0.80 for a box of ten, made with 64% cod! Thanks for making these videos, really is an eye opener.
I love a fish finger sandwich as a late night snack. I cook mine in an air frying and they turn out perfect. I have to put a layer of tin foil down first before I cook them.
Hi Gareth , I have been to Asdas 😉 bought some of these fish fingers and some of the Just essentials fish cakes, I compared the fish cakes with Birdseye cod fish cakes , couldn’t tell the difference, the just essential were lovely £1.10 for 10😮
You can definitely tell the difference between top brands and cheep ,top brands have better fish but cheap ones are more than good tasting and so cheap plus with a bit of the old cheap read sauce goes down lovely,my favourite mash, fish fingers, mushy peas with plenty of red sauce and two slices of buttered bread for mash and fish fingers sandwich
Bread butter and fish fingers with a cup of tea... Magic. Can't see the point of the dearest ones cause the price difference could pay for the bread and butter and tea. Many thanks for doing these videos I'm working my way through your videos and my brother William and I are doing our own taste tests and changing our grocery shopping habits accordingly.
When you can almost buy 4 packs of Asda fish fingers to 1 pack of birds eye that’s crazy (same fish and 58 % both the same) I know where I’m going . Great blog many thanks
7 packets of ASDA for the same price as 2 packets of birds eye. 70 fish fingers vs 20. Now I'm no mathematician or gourmet foodie but it seems pretty straightforward to me.
I would have liked it with a parrot 🦜 on your shoulder capt spot on . Great review but birds eye looked more white fish not the off cuts but thats my opinion. Keep it coming Gareth.
Hi Gareth. The yellow essential fish fingers don't look that bad. They would make a delicious parsley Sauce dinner. With New potatoes mushy peas. And them fish fingers. What a treat ! I'll have to try them. See what I think ! Thanks for Sharing. Love to you Maria 💗 xx

When people order online often they order the just essentials for 69p and hope they're not in stock and try their luck to get a substitute for no extra money. But the massive price difference means usually they'll just get nothing. It might work some of the time though. Fish fingers seem to be one of those products that have massively increased in price.
I've commented elsewhere about the big brand prices but this kind of gap makes no sense. Birds Eye, one of the real giants of the food world, should, really should be able to produce things a bit cheaper - or less expensive - than they do. Quality? Always an issue but the scale of the operation really should bring greater benefit to the consumer instead of to the 'expenses' incurred in keeping the brand on top! Perhaps I'm wrong but my money is on the less expensive item in the majority of cases. Keep goiong young man, the ideas you come up with are interesting! We love fish finger sandwiches!
I haven't had fish fingers for ages, my youngest 2 kids dont like them so I haven't picked them up for so long. But I fancy a fish finger or fish cake sarnie now haha
I sometimes use Deliveroo to get a delivery when and I saw 10 Birdseye fishfingers for £5 on the app at Sainsbury's. Madness. You can also get Asda omega 3 fishfingers for around a £1 and they make a nice fishfinger butty.
Hi garathhope you ,your family are well I enjoyed watching your review on making a king prawn curry the kit looked really nice im gonna give it a go Is there anyway you could or have you tried the Indian meals for one or two meals you can buy always wanted to try them…
This is exactly the sort of review needed at this time in the UK, well done.

I think the Birds Eye ones are solid fish filet and the Asda ones are minced fish.
Probably came from the same factory though
