Alright so I know training mode isn't quite as cool or sexy as showing you off some neat combos or setups but... how do you think we learn those combos and setups anyways? If you truly want to improve in any fighting game, training mode will become your best friend in time! That said this video is but a brief overview(despite being 15 minutes) of what is possible in the GG Strive training mode and how you can use it to improve your game!
Roof keep it up. I forward your videos to friends. Trying to get more folks into fighters.
How do you set up online training with a friend
@@donnyholman1698 I think you set it up like in a room a private room for you and your friend and then make it training or practice mode, because you can pick the style of fighting you’re doing.
Well, I'm late to the game, but-
How do you set wakeup DP or other attacks? I watched the vid, and can't do it.
Tried recovery action, which did nothing. I can try a regular recording, but would need to knock him down, then manually press play?
Don't see a way of it repeating. Thanks.
Playing with people you actually enjoy?
Another minor tooltip, hitting up and then reset position will switch sides
ahh you are right, I forgot to mention it! doh
This has become a arksys staple feature
Was looking in the comments to see if someone mentioned this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! You've just saved my day! I accidentally pressed that and was dying to try swapping the position back. I couldn't find this info elsewhere.
Oh somebody already said it. Hmm
Man you always deliver. Hope all the work you're doing recently isn't impeding on your health!
im really tired but thems the breaks I guess. I used to work midnights for over a decade so tired is something I can handle at least.
Dude. I just bought Guilty Gear Strive. It's my first Guilty Gear game. It's the first time I've watched gameplay of a fighting game and thought, "I really wanna get good at that game." And your videos are wonderful. You're great at this, man! You've got a very soothing tone and as I watch your videos, I keep thinking, "Maybe I CAN get better at this game."
You can do it brother. Don't feel frustrated when you hit your first walls or get stuck. Progress happens slowly but surely
@@WindxStrife Thanks :')
@@kevinthetraitor1346 remember losing is part of the process of LEARNING so don’t let a few L’s steer you away😜
Everyone can get better, but not everyone can be good, I am new to the game and mess up nearly everything but I can do 1 or 2 combos now which is better than yesterday. And in the end, all that matters is if you are having fun
Dude, I'm in the same boat! I haven't played a fighting game seriously since Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2. I saw Strive and felt this pull to give it a go and try to learn the game. Happy to see someone else who is a beginner! Good luck 👍
The training mode in this game is almost perfect... just gotta get that frame data in there and it might be the best training mode I've seen
I was wondering was the frame data?
Frame data is for nerds
@@finalboss5966 exactly, that's why I need it
if youre blocking ur not plus
@@TheJbrown60 unless they do a move that's minus on block
And yes despite it being Strive Season the King of Fighters 15 trailer train does not stop! After my stream-along today with the Summer Game fest which is Geoff Keighleys new not-e3 event, I will be dropping the full Luong trailer breakdown with all the goodies you expect. She's got some new toys and honestly she was super cool in KoF 14 as it stood so its pretty exciting! As for more GG strive videos they are coming! Keeping things a bit general still for the next few days before we get into the weeds with character specific stuff
My back hurts whenever I see Giovanna’s idle stance.
That is the power of a shamanistic secret service agent.
@@rooflemonger And here I thought it was just because she's a busty gal :-).
she got that arch tho
Bonus info regarding the “Reset Positions” feature. You can hold UP while resetting to switch the side you’re on. Useful for practicing on P1 or P2 side.
When the combo maker feature comes out it’s gonna be lit. Combo trials is all we are missing right now.
Gonna be honest, in most fighting games I think learning stuff in training mode is actually more fun than playing the game. 😂
Yeah i just spent 3 hours last night practicing giovanna's combo. It was actually really fun lmao
Right? The biggest challenge for me is getting out of training mode and actually fighting. Also, I'm a big scaredy baby who sucks.
I'm an old man compared to when I played fighting games actively last, but this one I wanna give my best shot. Thanks for the resource, Brother.
players are gonna find more crazy combos as the game goes on
I have watched every single tutorial/ guide you have put out for GGS, even though I have experience with GG games, and I still learn something new with every video.
Mad Props, yo :))
if by "decent amount of time" you mean hours everyday. its a part time job, except the rewards are skill refinement and game knowledge. definitely write down what you want to get better at and focus on ONE thing at a time (thats why it helps to write stuff down in your phone, so you can forget everything else as you do one thing. that one thing might lead to other things as you discover more about a situation or character). going to training mode with a clear purpose is a great use of time.
I come from DBFZ n this is technically my firs GG game I get into , thanks a million was waiting for you to drop this🔥
-Fellow Potemkin main-
Even knowing most of this your videos really are well made. Your love for fighting games comes through, and the passion just makes these that much better!
Love that you take nothing for granted when it comes guide content. You are AWESOME dude, seriously!
Maybe it would be a good idea to schedule out time for training mode for those who are serious about competing. Like, ok Monday evening I’ll train with Sol, tuesday I’ll train with Ky, so on and so forth. At least in the beginning of the players time with the game until they know it like the back of their hand. I know I’ll be doing that.
Yooooo I was just gonna leave a comment on ur last vid to drop this. You don’t miss a beat.
Thank you for more tips
I have been watching your videos as of late as a new player of Guilty Gear Strive. The content you make is thorough and quite useful. Great job and keep up the great content. :)
Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to figure out how to best train.
This is really helpful, thanks!
OH MY GOD! I needed this! I'm a complete beginner in this game. This is my first Guilty Gear game (well, except for the GG psx game.) I've been trying to figure out on how to record moves. Man! Thank you!!
Good info. Thanks. Recently got the game & went into training for the first time yesterday.
Was trying some combos from one of your vids, and could do a few (not others).
Hope to use record features to maybe accomplish something. Maybe the Dust chaser followup can be figured out there.
Also trying to decide which of your vids to watch (no vs yet).
Training Mode is still my favorite mode to play in any fighting game to truly understand how the game works, and how to handle any scenario. This one's really good with things like the counter attack settings, my only complaint is the lack of Frame Data display at the time of this video.
Now if I may add, when you have the dummy on "Recording Standby", you can press the "Play" button to switch recording slots without having to open up the pause menu. Also, while this one's not nearly as important, I like that you can enable "Round Call" in the Position Reset Settings to help immerse yourself into the round start scenario! :3
One last thing. "Combo Recipe" is a fun feature, but unfortunately does not display counter hits or the color of the roman cancels used at the time of this video.
Great video as usual, learned a lot!
excellent video. thank you 🙏🏽
Excellent video !!
Thanks for the upload roofle, ur keeping me hyped while i wait for PC release. Be sure to take breaks when you need em, love ur vids but ur health and well being is way more important.
after the kof trailer breakdown goes live in a few mins I can finally go to sleep

Super appreciate this as a beginner!! Thank you!!
These are so high quality it feels like it's official content from arcsys.
This the one I've been waiting for big guy! 😤
Can‘t wait for tomorrow🔥
Congrats on 100k! You have helped me so much!
Thank you!
Great videos - very helpful! Congratulations on 100K subscribers btw!
Thank you!
This channel is gonna be my new best friend when strive releases on PC!
oh yeah i was looking for this !
My 2 cents on Training Mode: It's how you get answers to things that frustrate you in real matches.
"I can't beat this. How do I do it?"
Training mode has the answers, you just have to know how to use it. It may not have frame data (yet), but Counter-Attack settings are really nice.
Hey, did you know there is a mathematical formula to calculate advantage? (" I frames of move you hit with" + "advantage on block" = "i frames of move to frame trap or attack with"
The way I've always used training mode is like this:
Fighting games are like school. Your opponents are like tests or quizzes.
Training mode is like the library.
If you don't know what you want to look up, the library won't help you.
Similarly, training mode is for when you have a problem you need solving. Whether it's a combo off a certain move, how to beat a certain character's strategy, or just what your character's moves are. Training mode has the answers for what you need, as long as you know what you need.
Can't wait to see some tips, tricks and combos for Potemkin (and Nago if you play him).
I've already made gains in the lab thanks to a few tips in this video ❤️
congrats on 100k!! well deserved, enjoy your silver play button!
Thank you!
Thanks man for your Guilty Gear videos, I’m a new GG player and I’ve always liked the characters and the story but never gave it a chance to try it out and play it, since Strive is new players friendly I got more into it and fell in love with the game, and of course with the help of your videos I’m getting more and more interested in the game.
Excellent idea for a video. It's something you don't realize you want to know.
Great vid Mr Monger. I've said it b4 and I'll say it again. You are my go to guy.
You definitely helped me out during the dragon ball fighterz days when navigating training mode so I have no doubt this will help me out as well.
You can also turn wall break off if you want to practice wall combos
That "start in the corner" feature is a really good idea.
You get my sub just for this guide. I was able to help my friends with a lot but THIS was a great cookie cutter to hand them.
You can also hold up on the dpad and press the touchpad to switch sides.
1:12 i spent like 30 mins trying to figure it out thinking my stick was broken or somethin and this one comment saved me lmao
Great video. I love how robust the training mode is. It looks like they learned from previous games and community feedback. I just downloaded Strive yesterday. What's a suggested way to get started with Strive to get solid in the game before playing online?
Congratulations on 100k!
Thank you!
Congrats on making S-tier on Dirty Lo's tier list!
very nice tutorial, wish they add frame data in later version
You learn those combos and things you can use in sets in training. In that sense, the fun stuff starts here
Might I suggest perhaps a new video idea 💡🤔 I'd love it if you did a terminology guide for GG because for alot of us coming from mortal kombat/injustice using the "1234" is what we know and when reading an optimal combo from a video and seeing 5h or whatever it's very foreign to us. Again thank you so much so excited to finally play tomorrow on pc love you man.
Training mode my one true reliable in day 1. Finding out the real tech vs gimmicks.
I played SFV to get myself prepared for GGStrive, it didn't. Not even the previous GGs could prepare me for this game.
Well if I think back to Mortal Kombat 2 advertisements back in the day, it did say nothing, nothing can prepare you.
Speaking of training mode, have you heard of Eddienput? It is a pc program designed to enhance training mode mainly by allowing you to easily record and play back actions with frame precision. It is compatible with nearly every every fighting game that runs on pc at the time of writing this.
Congratulations on 100K roof
Thank you!
The way you speak sometimes reminds me of Chef John, I like it!
Damn man I’m mad that I bought the deluxe edition instead of the ultimate edition. Those special colors is looking kinda nice.
Oh fuck, we at 100k!
Great video! Btw, do you know how to turn off the “positive, negative” warnings?
you can't far as I can tell, its a core part of the game.
Very helpful video! But the most important thing I learned is that I should play Cyberpunk Giovanna instead of the normal color scheme.
It's nuts how many features and functions carried over from DBFZ. I have a chance at being good at this game!
training mode is amazing but one problem I've been having as a new player is that sometimes I will get in a match and a specific blockstring or combination of attacks will give me a lot of problems so I will go in training to learn how to deal with it, but then I realize I actually have no idea how to replicate it or its simply too hard for me to do the inputs. I wish you could load up a replay and save the moves of someone (in a specific time period) in a replay slot to use later
I love this game and I would be playing this almost 24/7 if my pc wasn’t so bad that I can literally count the frames I’m seeing.
time to save up! or find a ps4 for cheap
Props to everybody who can use a training mode effectively. Even watching this I'm like: uuuuuuhhhhhhh🥴
Im potato 🥴
What about the Combomaker? I saw in the trailer a couple of days ago that there should be such feature in the game, but I didn't found any yet.
Ty ty ty ty ty
Always in training mode
Is that giovanna glowing skin a mod or dlc or something? it looks cool as hell
You’re in this weeks button check dude you should check it out
mannnnnnnnnnnn I feel like an idiot, I binded the button for IAD and RC and was lost with how to record thanks a lot
the button for record and play with dash macro and rc****
The recording thing threw me for a loop when i first started labing i figured it out eventually, but i was really close to fucking googling it but yeah game wasn't out yet so i doubt i would have got a clear answer. I then find out you can enable the dummy info so you could see what recording slot its on which helped alot.
I don’t want frame data not for a while at least. It’s fun to learn from trial and error.
You be sounding like the guy from food wishes at the intro
im actually in training mode difficulty 4 & literally cant do this one mission where i have to backstep while waking up from stagger
100K!!
Just a little question, what does the "Danger", "Negative", "Positive" stuff that keeps appearing on screen mean? It just keeps showing up when I'm using Sol Badguy in training for example, and I have no idea what it means.
Hell Low Hen Well Come!
Im stuck on sols 5 star combo mission, did the combo many times but cant get even 3 out of 5 🤯
can you loop the recording? Like i dont have to press the play button for it play, kinda like street fighter 5's recording.
Is there a move than can punish the most of the punishable moves? Like in MK11 (from what I've heard), can't Sub Zero's slide punish pretty much anything that is unsafe? Anything remotely close to that in GGS?
When I started playing fighterz I spent WAY too much time in training mode and by the time I tried ranked I looked like a smurf.
Bruh same, I was doing bomb loops on people who just autocombo'd.
Training mode is life!!! Enough said lol
Hi my man. Thank you so much for this video. This is extremely helpful.
Fellow Ontarian here
If you press up plus reset, it resets and changes positions of the characters
What is the “play” button on PS5? I be stuck pushing buttons trying to get the mission to show me what I need to do. Anybody?
i set the dummy to do an ariel attack on block or jump and nothing happens. am i doing something wrong ?
I find training mode more fun than actual matches, not to say actual matches aren't fun because they are really fun, I just like practicing blocking the schmix, learning how to deal with setups etc.
Helllooooo and welcome
Training mode in this game looks great, but it's such a shame that there isnt frame data available
Yes man, thank you! Time to train!
Wish to be able to bind record button on PC... it's impossible on keyboard =/
no frame data or hit location after other games got bashed for the same thing
