    • @naoc7661
      @naoc7661 Před 6 lety +6

      I assume that the preservative is added because when you use it you need to use your hand to scoop it out. Your hand might be dirty or wet so that's why the preservative is needed.

    Great video! I have made rose clay masks for years, but Ive always just make them up fresh with a teaspoon of clay and some oils. This look like a fab recipe! Its a beautiful exfoliating clay, but I add geranium rose and a bit of colloidal oatmeal too. Its super gorgeous after a day on the ski piste mixed with honey as well! hmmmmmm inspiration as I type - rose clay, colloidal oatmeal and geranium CP soap...!!! (can you tell I am soapaholic) :) cheers, Nadeen.

    • @bramble-berry
      @bramble-berry  Před 9 lety

      Hi Pablo!
      Without a preservative, the shelf life will depend on how much water gets into the product. It should be a couple months to a year or so. =)
      Also, you can definitely leave the extract out if you like. If you use the extract in place of the oil, it will change the consistency of the batch. Extracts tend to be thinner and not give as much of a silky feeling as the oil. A small test batch may be helpful for you. =)

      +Wansada yaker Hi there!
      If you're looking for another preservative to use, Optiphen would work well in this recipe! Optiphen is paraben and formaldehyde free, and can be used at .5-1.5% in this recipe.
      Optiphen: www.brambleberry.com/Optiphen-P3682.aspx
      We chose to use a preservative in this recipe to be extra careful. Although the recipe doesn't contain water, it will likely be stored in the shower and will get water splashed into it. That water can cause mold and bacteria growth. However, the preservative is optional! You can leave it out if you like. Just make sure to store your mask in an airtight container, and try to keep it away from water as much as possible. Also, without a preservative, the shelf life will likely be shorter - probably about 9 months or so. =)

      I have the same question as Terra Nova. There is no water in the INCI of this mask so I do not understand the need of a preservative. Is there any other reason, other than external contamination when using fingers to scoop the mask out of the container, for using it? Would some vitamin E or oils rich in vitamin E be a better option than a preservative in this case? Thanks for the recipe and for your answer if you find/have the time.

      Hello!
      That's a great question! While this recipe doesn't contain water, it will likely be used in the shower. This means it may get water splashed into it. We decided to be extra careful and add a preservative. If you prefer, you can leave the preservative out of this recipe.

      Phenonip prevents bacteria, mold, and Fungai because it's facial clay mask, some masks have these three things when Phenonip isn't in nor added in the ingredients so it's best to have Phenonip around.

    what skin types is this good for?

    • @bramble-berry
      @bramble-berry  Před 8 lety +1

      This mask is suitable for all skin types! The oils help moisturize the skin and the clays help draw out impurities. That being said, everyone's skin is different. What works for one person may not work for another.
      I would recommend making a small test batch of the scrub and trying it on your skin! If you find it's a bit too drying, you can add more oil. If it's a bit too moisturizing, you can add more clay. =)

    • @bramble-berry
      @bramble-berry  Před 9 lety

      Hi Craigpelias!
      Thanks so much for that suggestion! The FDA considers hand sanitizer a drug. This means any hand sanitizer recipes have to be tested and regulated by the FDA, which can be tricky! If you do want to make hand sanitizer, I would encourage you to check the FDA's website, fda.gov. =)

    Is there a difference from evening primrose extract and evening primrose oil? Are there any alternatives?

    • @bramble-berry
      @bramble-berry  Před 9 lety

      Hi Keci!
      Evening primrose oil is thicker than the extract, and is usually used in higher quantities. Using the oil in this recipe would make the recipe more liquidy and have a more oily feel. The evening primrose extract is thinner and typically used at 1 tsp. per pound of product.
      You can definitely use another extract if you like! We have a lot of great options. You can read more in the Sunda Night Spotlight: Extracts: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/sunday-night-spotligh-extracts/

      sapphireblue222 omg that's the same question I have... Or why didn't she use one of the other lighter preservatives that don't have parabens?? Maybe she answered that question further down in the comments!!

    • @AlmostCouture
      @AlmostCouture Před 7 lety +4

      sapphireblue222 ok she did answer she said that she used the phenonip to be extra safe! She said that even though there is no water in the recipe, that people may use this in the shower so water may get into it and cause bacteria to grow.. She also said that the other lighter preservatives would work just fine!

      ***** Hi Ann-Marie - I'd love to order and make this scrub! Can you tell me how long a person would leave this on the face for? Say 15 minutes? I haven't made scrubs before..do you think these could be stored in zip lok bags or should I purchase some jars to store it in?

    will the clay absorbe the oil?

    • @bramble-berry
      @bramble-berry  Před 8 lety

      The clay and oil combine to create a paste, but the clay does not dry out the oil. It will stay a thick, paste texture =)

    Lovely, but doesn't adding oils to the clay defeat the purpose? I mean clays in masks absorb excess oil from skin, but adding oils to the mask itself may hinder the kaolinclay's oil-reducing benefit. idk. awesome vid though. :)
