Project MX5 - How to Remove External Door Handles, Mirrors, Trim & Door Cards

  • In this quick video I show you how to strip your doors down and remove the door cards, external door handles, rubber trim and mirror.
    In my case I did this to prep for wrapping. It's a lot easier to wrap your doors, mirrors and handles if they're not on the car. To reinstall, simply reverse the process.
    Please keep in mind that the car is not secure all the time that the handles are removed.

    note for anyone with an NA following along, our mirrors don't pop out quite like NB's, the way to get na mirrors is a screwdriver and a rag against the paint, screwdriver goes in a cutout on the bottom of the mirror stalk base, that plastic cover comes loose and you can undo bolts from there

    Thanks mate, that was really helpful.
    We found the clip to disconnect the mirror wiring was really hard to detach by reaching up behind the panel. So we took the main speaker out in a few seconds - then you can see what you are doing.
    Another tip is while you've got it all taken apart is to lube the rails for the window sliders. It's a common problem on MX5s to have slow windows. You can buy specialist grease but we just sprayed some silicon down the slot and it worked a treat.

      I've found in the past that spray silicon will seem to work but quickly washes out

    Good to see my friend who subscribed just so they could dislike every video the moment it's uploaded is back. Life must be pretty awesome for you!

      Aww that's just lame. Don't worry though, the dislike won't stop the rest of us from appreciating the great quality of your videos :)

      Meh. Every interaction helps :) They'd be better off unsubscribing and not loading the videos at all.

    Hey mate! at 6:54 that's where your central locking actuator sits. Because thats exactly where mine is. Central locking was optional back then. So thats why that foam covering is there.

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  Před 6 lety

      Interesting! Maybe the central locking in my car is aftermarket because I have central locking.

    Great instruction video and footage. To those out there that have a NB with an electromechanical lock, because some do, everything is the same, but the wire harness is tricky. I'm just going to clip and crimp the wires.

    Didn't know you owned a NB (once). I am looking for one too. Great cars aren't they can't find much negative feedback on it except for the rust.

  • @ritchiemeza
    @ritchiemeza Před 4 lety

    Maybe not that relevant to the video but my plastic piece surrounding the mirror is loose and vibrates a lot when going over bumps or listening to music. Is there anyway to tighten down the plastic piece?

  • @MitchDenham
    @MitchDenham Před 6 lety +1

    Seems relatively straight forward, I imagine the steps are more or less the same for most other vehicles?

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  Před 6 lety

      +Mitchell Denham it’s been pretty much the same for the two other cars I’ve done it on. BRZ and GC8 Impreza.

  • @Gigaguenther
    @Gigaguenther Před 6 lety +1

    If you can be bothered to remove the speaker you'll be able to loosen the mirror connector in daylight, which i recommend as i found it a real bitch to undo
