Replacing everything from the carpet and floor mats to the leather seats to touch points like the shift know and steering wheel, we want this car to look and feel as modern as new as possible. We also replace that tired old tan top with a new streamlined soft top.

Holy cow!!! I didn't know you guys had upgraded carpets now 🤯 that was a very nice surprise plus the heat and sound deadening! But the Vynil top??? No Canvas? What a crime, Oh the humanity 😭😭😭
This car never had a wood steering wheel, and the cheap plastic faux wood grain shifter was loose and a safety hazard, it had to go! We wanted a nice clean modern look for this build, so no wood grain for Ron, sorry! :)
Just curious, what would be an advantage or disadvantage of canvas over vinyl or vinyl over canvas top?
@nuketube2650 Man Canvas it's a very nice material looking at it you can tell it's upscale next to a vinyl and on cold weather it doesn't shrink like vinyl does.
I like to make the racing noises with my mouth when I'm driving the car in standstill traffic. makes it more fun

Holy cow! I've just seen this video for the first time. I own that exact NB in that same color and those interior upgrades are exactly what I've done to mine! I mean...down to the sponsored Vendors you used. I upgraded the stereo head unit and installed a canvas top, but I'm very smitten right now. Knowing what I've done is Flyin Miata approved.

If you plan to highly modify any car, that's almost always going to be the case, unless you start with something very new or exotic.

If you have the door panels and air barrier off anyway, it's a really good time to pull the window regulators/motor and both clean and lubricate everything. Fixies one of the most annoying features of a 20-year-old car...sloooooow windows.
We actually did all this as preventative maintenance before we started the video series, as well as fresh seals, gaskets, fluids and even a shifter rebuild 👍🏻

really enjoying the project! I have a 2003 base Miata exact same color just with black interior and top. this is giving lots of good ideas. Would be nice if you would give the list price at current time for all the components, helps make quick budget decisions.
Did you guys farm out the seat reupholstery to someone else or did you do it in-house? If you did it in-house, I'd like to see a more detailed breakdown of replacing the seat covers, even if it does vary by year.
Mike has some experience working at an auto upholstery shop and installed these seat covers in-house. It's a fairly straight forward process, tho very tedious.
Wondering how well the sound deadening works?
It's still a 25 year old convertible, so it will never be as quiet as a newer coupe, but it does make a difference. Unfortunately, we have not done any scientific testing in that regard.

The Katzkin seat upholstery an easy install? You have any order info? My NB1 Base fabric could use an upgrade.
It's a fairly quality kit, but if you've never installed seat upholstery before, you may struggle to get it perfect. We recommend reaching out to Katzkin directly for info.
Question: sometimes on a bumpy road i hear a noise behind the right seat. Its not the battery for sure cause i ve checked it. Is it the soft top??? I hear it only with the soft top up. Might be the rain rail???
Possibly suspension or a bad exhaust hanger. Please feel free to reach out to our customer support team directly if you need more help trouble shooting.

you guys are probably going to turbocharge ron but are there any budget performance mods you could also introduce?
We have new intakes coming soon to our website, but they won't be featured here because they are not turbo compatible. We offer many budget performance parts such as bracing, and V-maxx coilovers. If you are looking specifically for "budget" horsepower gains, there really aren't many to be had on these cars.
Is the steering wheel a smaller diameter than OE?
The outer diameter should be about the same, but the grip diameter is thicker, making it look slightly smaller than stock. It also fully retains a functioning factory air bag!

Where can you get those seat covers? Katzkin doesn't show any NB years as available.
We called them directly. Other retailers might have Katzkin Miata specific covers as well.

Do you know if its possible to buy a new soft top with the frame all together? I havent been able to find any online.
We have never seen that option new. You might be able to get a used top on frame in good condition from a salvage place like SNS.
My understanding from Katzkin customer service is that they do not sell the seat covers without installation…has anyone found out something different???
That wasn't our experience but maybe things have changed. Maybe it's that they only sell to certain distributors? I'd reach out to them for some clarification if you're interested in their product.
Are you planning a center console and/or door panel delete to make the interior roomier?
No. Sorry, we want to keep the interior as factory fresh as possible, which includes keeping the center console and door panels.

Will the Ciper sterring wheel fit on a 04 msm?
It should work for any 99-04 with a 3 spoke wheel.

Nobody says this but the Cipher steering wheel is not leather. I bought one and while the shape is nice, it’s not perfect. It does feel like some sort of luxury vinyl, very plastic in feel. And the color is grey, so it looks weird in a black interior. My factory Nardi was dead straight and like many other people have noticed, the Cipher is slightly off, not an installation mistake or problem with alignment- it’s the wheel.
I replaced a steering wheel in another car, and noticed that can happen sometimes due to manufacturing variances. The wheel angle should be adjustable by an alignment shop. Tell them what you did, and that handling is fine you just need the wheel adjusted.
Some of their steering wheels are not leather, but they say the NB wheel we sell is 100% "premium leather", and it has a nice feel. Every car is going to be slightly different, and if your steering wheel is not straight after install, it's easily fixed with an alignment. We've had good luck with these, and the steering wheel on this car installed practically dead center without needing any adjustment.
@@FlyinMiataVideo yep, that’s what Cipher states too. And yes mine is an NB wheel as well. I might have it recovered at some point, maybe I got a funky factory second. Certainly not a problem with FM or Goodwin or Moss, wherever I ordered it from. Love the videos!

Totally agree. Maybe they'll do that in one of their future interior finishing upgrade projects when those parts and pieces come in. I suspect a leather one that matches the steering wheel in color and texture with the same burgundy stitching would be a great stylish look.

The new hood has not been fitted properly as the side view of the car shows it is not taught. Also the roof fit needs a video of it's own to show how to fit the hood properly. It is much more than unbolting one hood and bolting in another hood. It probably takes two to three hours to do a good job, that was not none here. Not great Flyin Miata!!!!
If you're talking about the top, the top was definitely 100% installed properly. The top was not fully closed in some shots due to timing and filming schedule. The vinyl tops need to be warmed in the sun and stretched into place to properly adjust them and ensure a nice tight fit. This was done off camera, and we didn't think it needed a mention for the episode.
