How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Just be careful when they calf. They don't know you like your other cows do.
This is a very good statement for anyone who reads this and purchases cattle.
Plus the fact that you don't know the different temprement of each new cow yet, (friendly or not)
Thank You so much for sharing all of this information. All of you guys and gals are wonderful. Many Blessings!
Awesome! It’s always a great feeling to go to the sale barn and pick up some new stock to improve/increase the herd! 😊👍🏻
Those cattle look pretty nice and healthy! Great job Ryan!!
Travis probably liked the group of 4 red ones also.
Good luck with Your new purchase's Ryan, nice looking cattle:)
Congratulations on your new cattle. Good luck with them. You have a happy dog who really seems to enjoy your company!
Love the video Ryan and Travis . on cattles .
Nice looking cattle. Making friends with new mama cows is always a trip, good luck and be safe!
Thanks Ryan. Best of luck with your cattle
Thanks!
Thanks for the video Ryan 🚜
I really enjoyed this video this is the first time I have seen the cattle auction process from inside the building I have always wondered how the process actually worked.
I will say it was smart on holding off on getting the other two loads until the next day when roads were getting bad putting safety first is always a smart choice
I love listening tp auctioneers. Its so awesome.
Good looking pen you bought. Cant believe how calm they were for just going through the sale barn and being in a trailer. Good luck with them.
Fantastic!!!!
Playing it safe with weather means the life you save will be your own. What with all the calves to be born, your herd will really grow! LOTS more hay to put up next year!
Hey at 1:26 and 1:30 the first black chevy with the fetherlite tralier and thr black stabenow farms logo is ours
This sounds like another great CZcams channel just waiting to be made.
Nice addition to the cattle Ryan. They appeared to be some pretty nice stock. Quick way to expand a herd. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Nice cattle u got , congratulations on the new cattle coming into the herd

Yep. Wisconsin spring weather was interesting yesterday. Rain fine. Snow fine. Ice is a no thank you.
Good video. Looks like Rocket had fun as usual. Interesting details
Ryan thanks again for another fantastic video.
Thanks Ryan for the update.... Looking forward to the calves soon
Thanks for the update! Stay safe out there, spring is right around the corner!
Awesome purchase...
Fine looking herd you're accumulating there Ryan!
This was a great video! Thanks for the action at the auction! Lol
Great video love the work you put into them and if your reading hope your haveing a great day and stay safe
Thanks!
Good looking cattle, more hay to cut and corn to grow. Happy for you.
Time to get a big livestock trailer for Big Red now?
Nice looking cattle Ryan! I’m a senior this year and I have plans with a rancher about a mile away to purchase his 50 black angus cattle through the fsa and lease 150 acres along with!
Hey ryan thats a really nice set of. Heffers and cows u bought Cant wait for the next video of them up closer
Awesome! When I was younger and in 4-H I always had a few cows and goats but I sold them all a few years back but I’ve decided to get back into it and I’m hoping to go pick up a few cows and maybe some goats a few weeks from now!
Good luck, we milk goats, they can be strange animals sometimes for sure!!!😀😁
Good show, the real deal ,can't wait for the next haul.thanks sod buster
Nice purchase!
Thanks for the video Ryan Black ones are the way to go!
nice video, Always nice to see a video about animals ;-)
Good luck with them cattle Ryan they look nice ones
Nice buy, Ryan! This is a great investment for you and will help in a lot of ways. Given the choice between this and an overpriced skidsteer, cattle were definitely the better option, but now you'll really want a skidsteer to help take care of them specifically at your place. Congratulations!
All video is perfect and very intresting.More success for the farm and all wehicle. 🚜 🚜 András from Hungary 🇭🇺
Cool video, those cows get to make some new friends now.
Nice to see the Luverne grille guard on your truck!
Nice looking cattle! Decent price I’d say!! 👍👍
Fine looking cows, appears to be well cared for
Good video as always.I've been thinking about raising livestock after high school. Any ways good luck and be safe.
Nice long term investment on cows and heifers. Smart for delaying additional loads in the bad weather. Cheers!
Thanks Karl! Have a great week!
Sounds like the extra Skid Steer is needed now. Also, looks like you made some good buys there. Is Travis going to expand? Always a pleasure to watch your life as a farmer/rancher. Shows me what an alternate life could have been. Quite different from my own as a police sergeant in the Houston area.
PLease come to NSW, Australia and haul some cattle - we need the rain!
Can’t wait for planting vids
From rain to sleet to snow. Thats Wisconsin for ya
Wow beef is a lot higher there than it is up here in the northeast. Feeders (3-600lbs) went the highest they have been in a long time at the auction the other night n they went for 1.05 a pound. We have seen the prices for about the last year going for 40-70 cents a pound. It’s bad up here most of us have been holding out on sending anything for a while now hoping the price goes up. Looks like a nice bunch you got Ryan good luck with them.
Hey congrats on thickening the herd by 100%! That's a big deal. The prices weren't too bad either!
Ryan I like videos like this cause it shows me more then plant grow harvest but that is also part of farming. Yes I think you made a good choice on waiting to get the other cows the next day safety is best
I about spit out my soda at 4:06!
I agree it is best to wait. The icy roads can be a tough one
Great video, Ryan. Have you ever done a video on what you are looking for in terms of posture, build, physique, etc. when you go to the cattle exchange to buy breeding stock, bottle calves, or feeder cattle? Your perspective would be interesting and educational.
I really like how you show what the price per head/pound is, very informative!
Travis has been talking about Red Angus for a while those cows and heifers look nice.
Very cool..keep it up
thanks for sharing the cost.
Nice video Ryan, Good buy on ur New Cattle. It might be hard to Name 21 of them thou!!
LOL! You cant name cattle when they are all black. And most farmers don't name their cattle but some do.
Rain, Snow, Sleet? Welcome to Wisconsin!
They look like nice beast hope they do good for you
Looks like a nice bunch of cattle think you did well. Looks like the dirty Max did its job well 👍 🐄
I can tell one thing I dont miss working at a stock yard did that for 4 years in college
Nice looking cows.
Good move Ryan.
I drove past your place tonight, hauling a devon/red angus cross bull to a guy in Dickeyville. On my way home, I stopped by Yoders and had a pizza.
Rockets such a good boy
Hay Ryan ben watching off and on. love to see young guys like you and Travis farming and doing well in these tough times. Love the videos shows people what it takes to be a good livestock manager and how to care for the land, not to a lot of people your age no what its about. Hats off to you and Travis, good job. P.S. cant be leave the way you guys unload cattle. If I did it that way they would have gotten away and been spread from here to hell and back. LOL
I like that kind of auctions in usa we dont have that in our country. You shure have a lot of subscribers and I'm one of them nice videos
I love your videos
Good video!
Thought the Duramax was a clean pavement queen 😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice looking cattle Ryan and at a good price. Ya done good son.
Nice looking cows! I wish I could pay that in Canada for bread heifers and cows. For what you bought today would’ve cost me almost 42grand and only part of that is our terrible exchange rate! Good work!!
Good video Ryan it looks like you did a great job buying a nice-looking heard she bumped you way up in the spring when they start calving that's a good thing always good to add to the hard hopefully it'll be short sleeve weather soon it is here in Florida but I know it's not there.oh and how many cows can you all at one time when they're over a thousand pounds a peace be safe
I was at Cabela’s In Sun Prairie yesterday between Sun Prairie in Fitchburg it was rain from Fitchburg to Verona it was sleet and then from Verona to mineral point it was snow it got really dicey between Barneveld and mineral point. From point to Platteville it was actually OK. But I was keeping an eye on the same scanner page and it it looked ugly at points but apparently out on 81 someone had cows get out Needless to say I think everyone that lives in Southwest Wisconsin is beyond sick of winter I know I am
Love your vids Ryan keep up the good work
How did you know what to look for in the cows? Seems like a lot of the time most cows at the sale barn are just culls, but those you purchased look great
Good lookin cows 🐄 ya got there sir. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for dropping in!
Also looks like you need to have plenty of ear tags on hand due to all the calves coming.
Nice increase, they all looked good, are you changing your planting this year for silage corn, or are you just planning on hay?
Nice job Ryan. Where they straight black Angus or cross?? How many head do you yourself have now and how many between you, Travis and your dad. Great vids I’m from Australia so I love watching the way you Americans do things so differently to us.
Now you will need that extra skid steer.
I'm going to try to delay it as long as I can
@Dean Not in cost it wouldn't. A usable utility tractor for the farm with over 7,000 hours on it would run in the $40-$60K range. A practically new skidloader would be around $29,500. A tractor with a loader would be nice for road travel, but with two skidsteers our road travel would be greatly reduced anyway. Nothing larger than a 4020 can fit in my shed, and wouldn't be maneuverable enough to stack bales in the buildings.
Nice truck ryan
It looks like the truck handles good pulling
Ever notice at the sale barn that the sale price only moves up 2 or 3 cents per pound from the starting price.
Some pretty good-looking cows ! They appear to be gentle and accusted to be handled . If the Lord provides you'll have a good crop of calves some spring !
Nice buy on the cattle what do you think about the chains on the bobcat did it help?
What do you intend to breed them back to? Those were very nice looking cattle also
What is your favorite color pattern on a cow I agree with Travis that the reds are pretty
Love that frontguard on that gmc! 💪
Jeppe Galsgaard it’s a moose or deer guard
Nice vid as always would Eventually down the road buy a cattle trailer for big red?
Hey Ryan, how do you like your GMC DENALI HD? I love the color 2!!
Ryan do you get to look at them prior to the auction or is as is at time of auction?
Hi Ryan what kind of action camera do you use for taking videos on the farm for youtube?
Good looking cows. They'll make money.
