Summer Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday. Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Don’t worry Hanna; when I started working in construction, I was framing by hand (no nailers until I was good with just a hammer) they nicknamed me Lightning...cause “I couldn’t hit the same place twice”
Love the shorter video.
As a former dairy farmer, its always hard selling them. You get attached to them but it's just how life is! Thanks for sharing your story!
I worked at bloomington livestock and belmont salebarn for about 6 months. Makes for long days on the feeder cattle sale
Those timelapses are great! Hope to see more of them in the future videos.
Poor Old Rocket... He really is getting to be a Senior Gentleman
HAH... when you first opened that gate it looked like the first turn at the Motocross GP. :-)
Now I know what a stampede sounds like now.
Lol
And everyone is going to think you have money now. Not thinking about all the bills n overhead you have to cover with that check. 75% of that goes to the bank
Happy 4th of July Ryan to you and your family. Glad you did better than you expected. You deserve it. You and your family work hard. Love the videos. Your videos where the first ones I found on CZcams and your videos never disappoint. Sincerely Dan.
Glad to see Hanna again. You are a fun team
Happy Fourth of July glad to hear that they sold better than you thought they would tell the rest of your family happy Fourth of July and everybody be safe
You are in such a beautiful part of the country love your videos, and all of the scenery we get to enjoy
Very happy for you guys .
Thanks Ryan for the update great video
...kept avoiding watching this video for some reason and now that I've watched it, it wasn't so bad after all. Thanx for showing a more humane version of this side of farming...I think...

Great to see another part of how farms work. Cash return is always great. Odd, they don't know where they're going, they just want to follow each other.

Good looking black angus steers, nice shape filled out
Not too bad Ryan. Glad to see someone is getting rain.
Good looking cattle!
Would love to have one of those cattle for the freezer ,nice looking cattle ,great job. 👍🇨🇦
Nice steers
Like how a couple of the cattle got in the trailer and turned right around. I don't want to go in here. Lol. Glad you made good money on them.

Very cool! Glad you made some good money.
Happy 4th guys!!! Love the videos Ryans keep up the great work. Do u guys ever use the white mixing bin next to the barn at the main farm??? Never seen it used in a video or a video on it just asking lol. Thanks Ryan have a good one
Great video as always
Happy 4th of july
Happy 4th of July
Happy 4th Ryan those were some good looking calves, glad you were happy with what they brought. Did Rocket bark when you got where you needed when you backed up to hook to the trailer 😂
I got excited and thought you drove down to Bloomington IL (where I grew up). Forgot there's a Bloomington WI too :)
Great awesome video Ryan , time for steers to go , final product to all your hard work pays off when you get a good dollar per pound of each steer ,
The fast route to the sale barn? Nice cam.....a cow's eye view. "Beef? It's whats for dinner!" Cheers!
Lots of TRUST there...always wondered how producers got paid. All the best! As my T-bone hits the grill!!
Just keep it in mind that he got $1:14 per lb on the hoof, 65-70% of the animal is butcher product and you see what stores charge for the BBQ goodies.
@@piperdoug428 Yep
happy 4th of july to you Ryan :)
Happy 4Th of July to all State side from Canada.
I noticed how slick the trailer floor seems... we bought the cheap stall mats and screwed them downthe cows got a lot better traction.. and made it easy to hose out ...
They sure are sparky. I do like your truck, proper looks the part.
That's a nice set-up between truck and cattle trailer. Wish we could run something like that here in the UK would save alot of trips to and fro. That's a HGV here in the UK 😁 glad the prices are doing alright for you over the pond to. Take care. 👍
That setup is actually on the medium side of things. With a larger 3500 dually truck and a 32-40ft triaxle featherlight aluminum trailer ive seen trailer loaded down packed tight wth cattle. Easily $30,000 worth of livestock or more.
Can you make a video outlining the expenses of raising those cattle? You made a video previously about crops, but I don't recall a video on the cattle.
Y'all sure drive fast up there!
Great news
Ryan, for safety you need to install the safety chain anchors the other way. If you do have a failure those small keeper pins in the safety anchors will nor prevent them from turning and possible coming out.
Those mottled faced and strip faced hiefers make some of the best mothers out there.. And the mottled faced calves are selling as good or better than anything!
Good going Ryan, a beautiful time of year for you farmers in WI, Love the USA , I am not part of the Hate America First crowd.
Media doesn't see any value in us. Success & stability does not fit their narrative.
Dang man you were flying down the road with a loaded trailer there 🤣 😄
Happy 4th of July 👍👍🐄🐄💯💯
I used to ride along when we’d take cattle to auction when we had our beef angus feedlot running though that’s all I did on that side. One time took two trailers to a sale place around 2 hours from us and when we started unloading we had a cow with her foot through the floor of the trailer, wood floor and wasn’t caught before we loaded but thankfully it looked like it happened right when we were unloading as we couldn’t find blood anywhere
Nice
I miss seeing more of Hannah’s farm
It’s funny how each pat of the country is different! Those same animals are only bringing 50-60 cents a pound at auctions here in the northeast! Cows look good Ryan!👍🏻
Lovely countryside...it's a bit like our East and North Yorkshire in England.
Those black baldies brought more then you figured! Buyers like them. I always get mad when I see the beef checkoff charge,,, worthless in my opinion. Calves looked good! That 90 degree turn in your load out looks fun 😂
AKA KREE HAVE A HAPPY 4TH OF JULY GREAT BUY BLESSINGS
nice
Y’all should try corn stalks as footing for the cattle works really good
Enjoyed the video. Beautiful herd. How many cows could you haul in one trip?
hef and calf combo are going for $2000plus around where i live in australia.
Man those first set of cows were really in a hurry to get through that gate!! Poor rocket he has to get in the back back.
Cows didnt seem all to happy to being told to go into the trailer lol
Have a great Fourth of July! Make that Duramax pull, I love my Duramax awesome truck 👍
I have a 2018 Duramax L5p and am extremely happy with it, cant beat the Duramax engine!!!
Glad your pleasantly surprised by the money. It seems most farmers I watch are not so pleased with the return on crops. When I started watching Utube 7 or 8 years ago, Wes Pandy {One Lonley Farmer} was selling corn for alittle over $10.00 a bushel. I didn't realize how good that was....
mmm, thanks for the burgers.
Nice countryside. I didn't see a single truck on the way to and from the sale barn. Here there are sometimes more trucks than cars or pickups...must be very residential area.
The day that this channel hits one million subscribers I will do a naked plunge in Lake Superior.
Feeder have been strong hope you do well
Holy smokes, my closest sale barn is a mile n the next 4 miles. Somethings we never consider til seen thru another’s POV.
On the bus on the bus !!!!
Love ur videos what breed a cattle do u have I ha e Angus and and holsten
ale super ta przyczepa
I have to give it to the guy Travis sure knows his way around moving cattle!
NOT!
I have to give it to you, your wrong 😂 way too much shouting and hollering no wonder they seem pretty wild!
Sid Jones he was obviously being sarcastic. Between that twit screaming and the fact that they run them through a falling down building to a 180 degree turn into a trailer, I’m surprised they even got them to the sale barn. This is the worst channel on CZcams to see good Cattle handling.
codyisley I did sense some sarcasm don’t worry 😂 probably because they’ve got them so wild they just run!
Hi Ryan did you ever check into the use of a forestry mulcher for clearing out fence lines?
czcams.com/video/u4LBqUY6ZyQ/video.html
opens gate and the cows start driftin
So, which way is closer, through Beetown or the Lancaster route?
At what weight and the steers be sold straight to the meet packing place or is that not allowed
Man I glad ya know were your going in your truck, ya lost me right quick. LOL
In my country we feed the cattle from calf to fully grown bull ready for slaugther. What is the reason you dont do that and sell streigth to a slaugtherhouse?
Happy Independence Day, Kusters! Keep those cattle moving, and definitely keep Hannah busy! How does that trailer handle fully loaded going down Brouillard Hill?
Is it possible for a buyer to come straight to you instead of thru an auction? Nice to see good "Home" soil.
Off to Big Mac University!
But first, they go to finishing school. Lots of time spent in intense study of bovine culinary arts.
U need to get u a king pin for your trailer and pull it with the freightliner. ..make fewer trips .save money. ..
rocket did good
How far of a drive is Bloomington for you
