Winter Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday and Saturday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Count you're blessings you wasn't loaded when you lost the wheel.
Yes that would of made a shitty day way worse
Bad to worse to screw it im going to bed
Have been there with a flat, not fun!
Yep. It might've dumped bales all over the road if that happened too.
@@HowFarmsWork I've had that to myself it no fun.
Tough scene. It’s hard to stay calm, cool, and collective when everything is out of your control.
Don`t feel bad about the wheel passing you. back in the 60s i had a 55 chevy pass me that i was towing on the interstate . it went into the median and stopped . we jujt re hooked and went on our way LOL
that kinda woke you up a bit i guess? :p
@@sisutrucks our 7410 loader tractor been down 6 weeks now wich driving us nuts wich were gonna in the feature replacing all our 5 tractors and replacing with 6 or 7 new kubota loader tractors
@@michaelmactavish1728 Quit with the pushing Kubota bullshit on every video.
There will be better days. The trailer was a bummer but it's an easy fix and no one was hurt. Farm on ! Rocket being carried by the busy road warmed my heart.
1:11 he knew what he was talking about. 20mph.... :)
I always like it when five or six things go wrong simultaneously. That way, you can get them all repaired at once and have a clean slate for the next batch...no need to string them out and fix them one at time...
"...I'm too afraid to ask..." Yep, I wouldn't.
A lot of snow. I forget Farmers lives are so full of surprises. Bad day. Damn
Quite fortunate for you and anyone else on the road, that you had already unloaded the bales 🙌🙌
I really admire how you keep a pretty good attitude through all of that crap. The breakdowns myself I can handle they don’t bother me. It’s trying to deal with all the other people driving by you at 60 miles an hour while it’s happening that makes me get mad. Great video bud, what time is the most important as no one gets hurt
It might not be a bad idea to re-torque lug nuts every two or three months along with other routine maintenance.
Trend Investor I lost a tractor tire on an uphill turn baling last year. It was unnerving. Cost about $1500 in damage. I can't understand how they came loose. But I'm now a fan of checking things like that.
Kinda why trailers have a sticker on the fender "Tighten wheel nuts daily"
Glad im not the only one that has those weeks
My momma told me there would be days like that, however, she forgot to tell me how to cope with them. 😃 Glad you survived.
One of those days in life ! Most people have them every so often !
From past experience I would not trust that hub, The lug bolts will loosen again. If it were mine and I wished to re=use the hub I would get extra long lug bolts and put a locking nut on the back side.
Happened to me once. Driving a bee truck dragging a forklift trailer. Coming out of the beeyard down a country lane, we stopped unexpectedly and then watched the left trailer wheel pass the truck and meander down the lane until coming to a stop. At least we had the forklift to help in our repair. I checked the lug nuts religiously after that episode!
Been there Ryan, done that.
Picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Hahaha now that’s funny right there
Outstanding!
Best reply ever!
Cory Archer Kenny Rogers?
I believe that’s a classic by Daryl Waltrip
I can relate to the pain of the costly repairs on the 7600. I had one of those experiences myself. Hang in there.
Praying that you guys will figure out what went wrong in the tractor! YIKES! So glad there wasn't any bales on the carrier when that wheel came off! Glad no one was hurt with that runaway wheel!
Will pray for you all !!!
We all have our bad weeks. Keep the head up and keep going. She'll get better bud.
Ryan thanks for the update. I should have watched to the end first
Times like these just got to remind oneself... life can be worse. It could be over.
Stop. Pause. Breathe. Relax. Smile. Grin. Go again.
It’s hard to come home from exhibition and doing ordinary stuff. Thank you for sharing your amazing story. God bless you and your family.
Hope y’all have better luck on everything rest of the year
When it rains it pours! Better luck next week!
At 3:35 when unloading round bales you can see tire flopping around loose !!
Too bad Ryan doesn't have a time machine.
Ryan all I can say thank GOD your week is over and bless the week to come THAMKS!!
Never a dull moment Ryan.
its so clear on how frustrated Travis
is. totally understandable. things happen at least you are both safe!!
It was really interesting to see that event from both your channels.
Been there done that for almost 60 years. Thanks for sharing your REAL life adventures.
On my farm days like thst are the norm. At the end of the day so long as everybody made it home safely is the main thing!
One of those days Ryan, there are no words:(
reminds me of a lyric from Kenny Rogers song that we changed as a kid, it was "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille" and we changed it to "You picked a fine time to leave me, loose wheel"
"well there's your problem, you're missing a tire" I laughed way too hard at that.
Hey Ryan!! Just another fun day on the farm lol
What a week, I've had a few like that myself. Glad to see everyone's doing okay though, and that no one got hurt. Unfortunately these things happen, and its refreshing to see the way both you and Travis take the hit and can still keep your composure without blowing a fuse (at least not on camera..in front of the youngin's). As always keep up the great work, love seeing whats going on at the Kuster Farm!
Good video Ryan when it rains it pours just need to take every day one at a time let the bad days roll off your back & keep on going ! Yal be safe and warm. Daniel from central Mississippi
Sounds like some of the days I have mine are a little more complicated than what happened to you but it's a lucky thing that the wheel come off with you instead of your brother I think you handled all those things like a champ. God bless
Sorry for your luck, some days are like that.Hope it gets better, thanks for the video.
One of them days 😅🚜
This is kind of like a story my grandpa told me, his brother went out to combine, combined the wrong field, and then the grain truck caught on fire, yeah good times
Hope things get better! I've had a pretty screwey day my self but we just gotta remember there's always tomorrow and things will get better. Get a good night's sleep n hopefully you'll have a much better day😀
Dear lord I've had days like that. Glad you're safe.
Bad days happen so you recognize those great days....
Yes I have they day too. Keep make your awesome video
Time for a beer.
Empty trailers bounce more, that probably worked the bolts loose. Had this exact experience.
Hope next week is better then this week....keep your chin up. Spring is coming!
Wow what a day it can only get better buddy. Carl
This stuff always waits for.....WINTER!
Picked the wrong week to stop sniffin' glue!!! haha
Great vid man that sucks sounds like a bad day hope tomorrow is better
Been thru similar situations....flat tires on loaded grain wagons....etc....as long as everyone is safe, is all that matters....
Man what a clusterfuck of a day.
Hope things get better, must be in the air, i had a problem of own last night
Ryan, when I saw the bale fork in this video, I thought the same thing, " how could that happen?" I look at it like tomorrow will be a better day, and at least you can count on family when things go wrong.
I can’t recall the number of times my brother and I have been on the side of a highway with tire issues etc. But enjoy the good and the bad times because they will all but memories someday for I lost my older brother and my farm partner on Thursday and now all I have is all the memories from the past 50 years.
Ryan It always happens to the good guy. May all of your troubles be behind you. Take care.
You can be thankful that you did not loose the wheel with a load of bales!
I grew up on Circle road. The hay auction was a supper club back then. You were a mile and a half from my dad's farm.
Things happen!
Winter blues man.....hope your luck changes !
Man “Murphy” was wreaking havoc for you guys! It can only get better form here.
Hey, it happens to all of us... I had a load of hay fall off of my trailer today on the highway... it's been one of those days...
We had on of those days last summer. First day of chopping tractor broke after about 100m, then part of the linkage to attach the chopper got bent and took one hour to fix and finally at the end of the day the chopper got plugged and took about 10 minutes to open.
Rockville farm looks so different pulling up that drive way and not seeing the stave silo. Did they ever start rebuilding it that u know?? Hope u guys are having better days. U are rite ryan u just want to stay home and lock the doors til the next day. Thanks for the video even tho it was a bad day. Have a good one
On days like this it is the best to go home and lock the door and don’t open it till the next morning
Just another day of farming. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to get out of bed. We have all been there.
Life of a farmer, what a deal!
Bill
i have had weeks like that. i know that feeling.
murphys law at it's best
Poor frozen doggie. Should have left your windows down to enjoy that cold wind.
Ok so now we know the difference between a good day and a bad one, glad no one got hurt
I enjoy your videos somebody needs you teach you boys how to weld and your little just saying keep up the good work I know you have days that are frustrating and that everything that can possibly go wrong goes wrong
At 0:55 the dog saying Oh Crap the police are here 😆
30 at the time, what did Travis tell you 25!! We all have them days!!
Seems the trailer was loaded at the time he said that.
Yup had one of those kinda days just last week...you can see it on my channel
On those kinda days after all that happened.. you wouldn’t see me out of the house haha
did you really just find a deer shed. that was cool
Travis was NOT a happy camper, but at least by the time he recorded his own video, he was better composed. Stranger things have happened on the way to an auction, of course. At least everyone was safe, including Rocket. Thank goodness for friends and family! The missing wheel was just icing on the crappy day's cake. Never ask "What could possibly go wrong?" because you probably don't want to know the answer, especially on a day like that one.
Calvin the dog was with Travis. Both dogs are patient and great companions.
Daily vehicle inspections would help not nattering you are a good person trying hard keep your chin up
Three years ago I had a tire come off a loaded hay wagon and pass me on a busy stretch of highway like you I got lucky no on coming traffic but we did lose a couple bailes in the ditch
That poor bale Carrier has been though a lot
Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. I lost a tire on a tandem axle trailer once and another time I was pulling a utility trailer with a portable toilet loaded on it when the hitch on the trailer broke. And both times the way I knew I had lost them was they passed me up as I was driving down the road. That was weird to see a toilet on a trailer pass me as I drove down the road. :-) Cheers...
Gotta keep all those lug nuts torqued up...
It always seems hat a guy has more breakdowns in the cold.
Sounds like bad week well hopefully it gets better for ya
You have my sympathies on the wheel coming off. I was cruising down the highway when I felt a wobble in the back of my truck and then saw a wheel go flying past me. At 60mph (within the speed limit). Fortunately, the truck has duals and only an outside wheel came off. But all I could think of as the loose wheel sailed down the highway was what an attorney friend said in a similar situation---"ABSOLUTE LIABILITY!" . No one was hurt and I found the loose wheel in an orchard. Scary when it happens and still scary over 10 years later.
I torque them twice now and torque them again after a few miles. And I do not trust the shops to torque them right.
However, I do not think incorrect torque settings caused your problem The studs sheared off.
We all have those days.
We here chuckle when you say lots of traffic. We moved to the boonies. From southern California. Your traffic, like ours, we kid ourselves about. "Oh my God Laura, I see 2 cars coming. We're all gonna die". Seriously though, hang tough. Your a man. You have a lot going for you. It appears your female friend isn't around much. I hope all is well with U 2. You will be alright. Get thru it. Theres a lot of young men out here watching you hang in there. Be positive. Pray like there is no tomorrow. Everything will work out as it should.
God bless. From the heart.
At least the hay was not on the wagon when your tire passed you.
OK, i"ll say it. "If it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all." Preventive maintenance, $18.000.00 ++ OOOUCH!
Larry Bruns, that's what I was going to comment.
Have there been a lot of bales for sale being that we haven't had such a cold winter this year?
Ryan check your wheels before going on the Hightway ,like your big Red .and trailer .
It looks like Hannah is going to start bantering with you about those red tractors again.
Good afternoon. Pretrip driver. Very lucky. Kidding aside just do a simple walk around/ check. Be safe.
Talking about bad luck, I got pulled over three times this weekend
Every thing happens in multiple of 3s. Glad nobody got. Have a blessed day.
