How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Nothing better than having chilled out cattle . I’ve been around crazy and unpredictable cattle . So much harder handling them and very unnerving.
Really enjoy ur videos 🤝 brings me back to my farming days on dads farm . Thank u both for sharing ur farming lives 👍🏻
Mom to the rescue on that one huh. Better give her a big hug and a thank you haha.
It is cool to see how well you like and treat your animals. They seem to reciprocate.
Glad to see you’re expanding your herd. Best of luck to you this year👍🏼
Man I don't know what's worse, ice or the mess left over when the ice melts. Great video!
I'd vote for the mess the cows leave behind... ;)
Do yourself a favor and get some rubber matting on the trailer floor and a few bags of barn calcite. Calcite for traction and to put on the ground where you unload to give better footing for your animals.
Respect to all farmers
Gee, that cow transfer and feeding goes SO much easier in Farm Simulator 19. . . . a lot less mud, too! ;-)
Thanks for sharing guys..
Great looking cattle thanks for sharing
Hope spring comes for you soon!
Hope you have an great year, awesome video!!
great Ryan for building your herd up best of luck for 2019
Wow what a great group.
Nice addition to your herd. Good luck
BANGS tags. Look great, thank you Ryan.
13:00 man that sky looks nice!!!
Always nice to keep something for extra traction in your vehicle. I have a deal of kitty litter in mine just in case.
Love farming and ur channel
Enjoyed your last two videos very much. Thank you for sharing, and God Bless from Phoenix.
Ryan Travis yaw can keep the snow lol were just started some field work
Great video keep up the good job
Good job boys keep up the good work
Good looking cows! Good job..
Love the new cows .they are like a combine.
Zip ties through and around wheel. Works everytime
Great vid. Love the sense of humor. Best of luck to ya
You did good Ryan, they are nice looking cows. I also like the way you treat them.
Nothing better than happy cows!
Than you for this very nice video!! We have like 85 cows in the Netherlands.
“Sugar, Spice, and everything nice.” Love it.
Grant bunch of cattle good luck Ryan 👍🚜
Great video
Looks like your going to have a nice herd this year, Ryan.
Cows are fascinating
Great video!!!
Boy do I ever miss that feeling, with cattle and calving
Very nice looking cows
I keep several pails of pea gravel handy in winter, rather than salt. I want traction, not melting.
The rock salt I keep separate for melting the brick walks and the steps. I don't like using too-much salt since the snow/ice doesn't usually last that long, ...but my walk at the front door is in shadow on the north-side of the house and NEVER gets any Sun.
Nice to see my brother made it into the vid
Man that’s really a nice group of cattle you bought Ryan!!
I love you videos keep up the good work
"Creepy" made me laugh out loud. Loved the inserted text. Great work team Kuster.
Cows up north are better at ice and slippery situations then they are down here in Texas!! Those hopped out of a slick trailer onto ice like figure skaters!!
You should throw some crusher stone down it will help with keeping the mud a bit lower and dust your cattle will also not be sliding around that much and if you can get hold of conveyor belt strips throw that down in your trailer keep the cattle from falling around and sliding during transport
I love cows and pigs good eats!you are very good person R
This guy can make a heck of a video.Thx.Dude!!
Thanks for watching!
Good lookin cattle. Pretty soon you will be getting a cattle trailer for big red.
great video
Love the channel just started watching the channel but I am already almost addicted!😂 But all and all have a great day!
Love your vid ryan
My 18 Silverado had the same tires when I got it they were useless in snow definitely not suitable for winter in Canada lol I replaced them with BFG KO2’s I find them great
This fall I replaced my factory tires with the same thing, my gas milage went down but the BFG KO2 did excellent in snow and off road.
Nice herd man congrats! #WorldsOkayestFarmer
13:59. Fix that wall. Please. LOL
Still a good looking here of animals, you should be proud, great video
MOM For the Win! She's the real MVP !
Those little metal tags are probably registration of Brucillosous (BANGS) Testing...
They are for tracking cattle. It is a nation wide system, every state has its own number. Every cow that goes through a sale barn gets one.
Hey Ryan nice truck
Send it was what I was thinking of too
That is a pretty good hit looking herd of cattle Ryan that should give you a pretty good jump and youngsters, spring hopefully you have a good year and like you I like my cow's to be chilled-out
Nice animals
been 45 yrs. plus when I last stood ankle deep in cow manure, never thought twice about it….now I'd possible tip toe threw it …guess the farming life has left me…find looking cattle your purchasing ….enjoying your videos
Great video and nice addition to your herd. Some time could you please maybe do a video tour of the barn at your place? Love barns like that.
I agree with beef cattle, grain prices aren't going anywhere unless there is a drought or flood. It would be nice to have that small grain cart with an auger that your seed rep uses to haul feed with instead of buckets. All it would take is a nasty fall to put you in medical debt. Also I know you don't like to lease vehicles but it could be a one time thing to get the skidsteer without becoming over extended. Even if you own something you may not get what it's worth in a down market and with a lease you'd be getting a new vehicle with a warranty.
when we cant get out of our drive way we use barn lime. if you put some in front and behind of the tires you get right out.
You should have a bag of kitty litter .it works great if you need traction on ice.8 always carried a 50 pound bag in my semi in the winter
Sugar, spice, and everything nice, but mostly salt, to melt the ice. Great video Ryan!
Great looking group, Ryan. I hope you go over the numbers in terms of the increased quantities of hay, feed corn, and fodder that you'll need to keep them happy and healthy and the acreage of alfalfa necessary to supply that. Nice investment strategy!
Lol cattle are kinda like a combine. Nice looking cattle
The red ones will do a better job then LOL
Numbers video would be a great video to have out there for the just starting beef farmers!
Good evening Ryan, thank you for the video, please why not put a little straw down so that the cows wouldn't slip on the frozen ground!! Because if there was a broken leg!!! It would sure be worse. 👍😎🇬🇧.
"cattle are kind of like a combine" 🤣 yup, best thing I've heard today, pretty true if you think of it, just a very different type of chaff out of the back end 😊
Nice docile animals, ice makes for a difficult day. My dad would have my hide for not wearing overshoes in the crap. Hah! Great plan for the year / more livestock to grow the program. Cheers!
That’s pretty cool you can do that with a cow
👍 You did better than me! Wasted all day in the sale barn and went home with a empty trailer. I learned a lot by watching though. Maybe next time! Keep on keeping on! Love the videos.
3:00 Just a suggestion...I use cat litter instead of salt. Cat litter provides excellent traction. The issue I have with salt is that it simply burns its way south only to refreeze during the night which, turns into a highly polished surface the next day!
Ryan time for winter tires for the truck. :)
Put a rubber mat at the back of the trailer to keep the cows from slipping.
A ramp on the back of your cattle trailer would make it easier to load and unload livestock (which I am sure you would know) and easier for you guys too!
its warming up in Cornell. our driveway is a pond right now
I love the gmc
You nade good choices on purchases looks like. Calm like you like them. Thought surely Travis would slip the red head in the trailer.
I was thinking the same thing
Nice looking cattle. Tame enough to work with. Nice video Ryan....
That cow was shitting 😂
Hi Ryan great looking cows, congrats! Have you ever thought about building a suckler cow shed? Best wishes Jeremy
Travis is the hero of this video would slide up for the team Ryan those are some nice looking cows and heifers.
nice video ;-)
Nice job, Ryan. Are the new cows Angus purebred or crossbred?
I laughed when travis fell but at the same time I hope he was ok :)
We need to start a sand/salt barrel campaign for the HFW door yard🙂 We don't want anybody getting hurt! Nice animals BTW.
you are oustanding in your field lolol
You need a spray on bed liner in that nice truck Ryan
Carry cat litter with you. Its cheaper. Can spread more and get better traction. Old truck i learned ontop of laying chains under the tires
Nice head of cattle
I always keep a bag of kitty litter in my vehicle during the winter for situations like the one you had slipping on ice in the truck. . It is a cheep way to get some traction in those situations.
Ryan now since you have a semi now all you need is a cattle trailer for the semi
I am assuming that, like most horses, if one of them goes down on the ice with a busted leg, it is career ending ? sdh in CT
Lol good thing you had that bucket of brown sugar to get you off the ice 😂
This was a great video I didn't know you could use spice when you get stuck on ice that is a good tip to remember.
I dont know a lot about cattle but after this video it seems they dont like to walk on snow and ice.
It seemed like to me that the cow wasn't trying to escape I think the cows feet was sliding on the snow and ice I could be wrong though
I've been to farms that have small tracked tractors with multiple trailer hitches just for this reason.
