  • Montana Black Angus Bull Sale
In today's video, I will take you on a tour of a real-life Montana Bull Sale! The Connelly Angus Annual Bull sale is where ranchers from around Montana and the USA come or bid by phone on some of the very best Angus bull stock in America. You get to see the bulls and parts of the live auction. It is really interesting to see the interaction between the auctioneer and the bidders. Thank you to Joyce Field for inviting me to the sale. Thank you to Mr. Connelly, his son Matt Connelly and his daughter Mikayla Connelly for their great information and interviews. Thank you to Trina Jo Bradley for her ranching info and story. Thank you to Sammy Langan from England who also shared her story and some info too. This was my first ever bull sale and it was fascinating. The bulls were very cute too! There is still a bit of snow on the ground but the day was mostly sunny. The roads were a bit icy and the views on the driver were great too. I learned a lot about Black Angus bulls and what it takes to have a superior herd of cattle. I hope you enjoy my bull sale video and our beautiful big skies of Montana. This video is important to show people different aspects of what ranchers do and how they select their livestock for longevity and quality. Thank you so much for watching. I really appreciate it.

    My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 16-year-old 4th generation farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

Great video with lots of interesting content. Love how you interview everyone including some young ranch hands. It's great to see a new generation preparing to take the reigns. Super video Kate. We have cattle and Bull sales at the National Western stock show every year except 2021 which was canceled first time since 1906 account covid. The record Hereford bull sold for $301000.00 in 1981. Last year the Grand champion Hog sold for $100000.00 which came to $358.00 per pound, a lot to pay for bacon. Very entertaining and informative as always. Your smile brings joy to my heart. Thank you Kate, coach Steve Denver CO

Fascinating video Kate. Angus cattle originally came from Northeast Scotland and were brought to the US in 1873. They were also brought to Canada, Argentina and Australia in the 1800s. The cattle sale looks a lot like a cattle mart (as it's called) in Ireland but here the auctioneer does not have official spotters.
It was interesting listening to the English girl Sammy from Yorkshire saying that there were no jobs on farms for non-farm people there. One notable exception to that was a Yorkshire town girl called Amanda Owen who became a shepardess, married a sheep farmer, has a house full of kids and animals, and appears on British TV a lot. Amanda may well be an inspiration to Sammy. Video of her below.

I would love if that was true, but here Montana and caves that are sold every year, go to Wyoming to a really big feedlot and then ship off back eat or to the west coast and we cattle in our stores come from Mexico and Arizona now that is special place hear in Montana that does get it more direct, but we may be a bog state, but thing are not always what they seem because a big company like general mill that think they know what is best

We had white faced Herford's on our farm. One year my dad rented a white faced Herford bull. I made the mistake of going into the pasture my dad kept the bull and almost got killed. My dad's solution after that was to artificially inseminate the cattle. You can only imagine how angry my dad was at me but, I am certain he was more terrified I would get killed. Angus bulls I see from watching these videos are much more relaxed than a Herford bull.
