- Is My Combine Overheating?? Yes it is!!!!! Kate's Ag
Today is a day of wheat harvest on our Montana century farm. You will get to drive with me around the field and learn more about where your food comes from. I started the video after having a delicious lunch in the field. We have a really heavy wheat crop in parts of the field because it got additional fertilizer. I am combining the wheat next to the the 15 grain bins and school house, which we took a tour of in my last video • Grain Bin Tour Montana... I drive the combine by the homestead and elevator my Great Grandfather built. I am harvesting in the same field my Great Grandfather did in 1912. You will learn how to drive a combine in a straight line down the field. My combine starts to overheat so I have to stop in the field. My uncle and our hired man come and blow out the filter so I can keep going. There are lots of hawks in the field today. It is incredible. I show you a dump on the go in the grain cart. I also talk about my Farm to Fashion products I am launching this fall. I have been working very hard on them and I am very excited. It is very important to buy U.S.A. made products and locally harvested goods. I have a combine conference call with my mentor the founder of JanSport, Murray McCory. He has the absolute best advice ever and I always love talking to him. I dump into the tandem truck. I explain why you shouldn't go down a coulee with a full tank of grain. I am very passionate about educating people on where their food comes from. I believe everyone should have a connection with their food. At the end of the video you will get to meet my grandpa. Thank you for watching & I hope you like my video!

My Story...
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens and I am a 16-year-old 4th generation farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was 2 years old. Until recently the wheat we grow has been taller than me. My grandfather is 93 and he is the best mentor ever. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm and I decided that the amazing photos I take at harvest of our wheat and barley could make fabulous, exciting designs for fashion and accessories. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my handbag as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
It's nice to see the younger generations staying on the farms of their families heritage.
Thank you so much for your nice comment.
Especially someone smart but also sweet and you can tell she is kind hearted. Her dad is also awesome. He does a great job teaching her. You can see that they are close. You see she is willing to learn and he is willing to teach. It's awesome.
When the days come u will be a great mom. Your kids will be blessed to have a great mom like u and all the things u will teach them including farming. Thank you.
Thank you so much for you kindness.
@@KatesAg I have only seen a few of your Videos .. Just you and your Father.. makes me wondeer where you rMother is .. and your Grandfather but not your Grandmother.. My Grandmothers always invited me over for great home cooked meals.
I admit it, women are soooooo much better at multitasking than we men are. Lookit, she’s driving a combine, giving a tour of the physical farming grounds, buildings, equipment, and fields, and giving a lecture of sorts about farming itself, all the while looking composed and pretty. You go girl, with your adorable girl power, yeah!
LOL! Thank you for your wonderful kindness!!!!!
You give me hope for the younger generation YOU ARE AWESOME
Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement.
Your the only person that has my granddaughter put down for, when she watches your video she puts down down her cell phone. I just wish you had a all day video. Be safe and God Bless
Mr. Ellsworth, I can't thank you enough for your kind comment. I am very glad to hear that your Granddaughter likes to watch my videos. I sure hope I can inspire her. I really appreciate your encouragement and wonderful words.

It's so nice to see someone so passionate about what they do, a great video again Kate, you should be proud of yourself, stay safe.
Thank you so much for your wonderful and encouraging comment. I really appreciate it.
Her dad has done a great job teaching her and understanding that even after they are adults, a parent's job is never over, it just becomes more teaching and guiding than parenting.
I grew up in the Midwest in a farming community. My family were not farmers but I did work for neighboring farmers doing hay, plowing, harvest and working livestock. I now live in the city and miss the rural farming communities. It's very refreshing to see that America still has proper young ladies as yourself. You are a ray of sunshine, and your parents must be so very proud of you.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and kind words.
You’re probably the best dressed farmer in the country!
LOL! Thank you for your wonderful kindness!
When I watch your videos I can't keep thinking "What a great young lady" You do your family proud and are a great example of your generation Thank you for sharing

Well Kate! I want to thank you for teaching me so much about farming.. Before I get a recommendation of your Videos I didn't know much about farming even though my grandpa is a retired servicemen and now a full time farmer. Whenever I visit his house I never tired to get involved in his work with him in the field .. but you teach me the importance of farmers in our life ..
Without farmers there is no civilization and I'm very lucky that I got your channel as a mentor ... I have learned many things about farming ...
And now whenever I visit to my grandpa I will definitely help him out in his farming operations .. like you
Thanks for all your support 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾

Your videos and connecting farmers and consumers is absolutely fantastic! For us city residents, it’s fascinating to watch!
SO young but already a full grown woman inside ! Love your mind and mannerism and faith to family and friends .
Thank you for your kindness!
It's very important to stay hydrated.
It's hard to think about having your at least two liters of water a day, when you are
fully concentrated on your job.
I once had a renal insufficiency because of that.
Three weeks in hospital, every day an infusion of 2 liters of liquidness.
No fun at all.
But they saved me and now I definitely know how important it is to drink
your at least two liters a day. 🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻

Hi Kate great video. came across your videos about a week ago and hope you and your family have a great harvest.
Thank you so much for your kind words.
Please keep your wonderful videos long please. It is so enjoyable to watch. I’m curious what happens after harvest. Cover crops? Just farm work. Fantastic! Really well done!
After harvest we have to take the wheat berries to get cleaned so we can plant some of them again for next year's harvest. I will show the seed cleaning process in another video too because it is pretty neat. Then we begin seeding or planting. After that there is cleaning all the equipment and getting things organized for spring seeding. Thank you so much for your super kind words and great questions!!!!
More great content. Cheers and stay safe.
Thank you so much. 💕

Great Grandfather 👍
My grandfather homesteaded just west of Kalispell but sadly lost the farm during the depression
Thank you for your story!! That is very sad. The depression and the dust bowl days were very hard and that is very sad!!!
I have Several RElatives thought lost their Farms to the Bank During the Great Depression .. The Bankers Enginnered and Planned the Great Depression The Federal Reserve is Unconstitutional .. just like they planned the houseing Market Crash in 2008 and now they are executing the Plannedemic ..
You did a great job sweetheart keep up the good work stay safe thinking of you 😍
Thank you so much for your kind words! We will start this year's harvest pretty soon.
LOVE YOU AND LOVE YOUR VIDEO BEAUTIFUL❤️
Thank you so much for your kindness!!!!
25:31 to 25:34 is a good shot of that nasty Wild Oats you were speaking of earlier. I have been enjoying your videos. After I retired off The Rail Road Track Department with 35 years of service. I ran grain cart for my nephew until health issues with my thyroid prevented it. They have my medication regulated now I'm doing much better hope to get back to helping with Harvest again.
Thank you so much for all your kindness and encouragement. I sure hope you get back to farming soon. Very best wishes and thank you again.
Some excellent fly fishing there in Montana!! Kate, maybe in another video you can go with dad and do some trout fishing?! Would be cool. If not, I totally would understand.
Great information about when your family started way back then, and the homestead...you should be proud, very proud to be part of such an amazing family with that background. Most people may think, awe just farming, but there's much more to farming that meets the eye! And in today's world a gal like you at your age, with so much farming knowledge, is just something to behold :-)
I've mentioned it in another comment I left, like a breath of fresh air :-) nowadays, most at your age, don't even know where their nose is still lol!
Keep strong, keep safe, and G. B.
Thank you so much for you kind words, encouragement, and suggestion. I really appreciate them.
Give thanks,one love...
Thank you for your comment.
THANK YOU, KATE AMERICA 🇺🇸🦅 APPRECIATE,S YOU ALWAYS , HAVE A GREAT DAY, GIRL 😁👍

Weather play a big roll in farming.
Hello Kate, again a great video, ..... 😃 .... girl power 💪 🚜
Thank you so much for your kindness. Girl power! 💕
Kate, it is important that more people get connected to how their food is produced. I am 78 and will be teaching a class on farming in the 21st century this winter to a group of retirees. . So much has changed in my lifetime in terms of farming and technology. I am missing harvesting this fall for the first time since I retired due to Covid. I help harvest wild rice about 500 miles north of your location.
Keep your passion for farming.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and kind words. Will your class be online? I would like to see a wild rice harvest. Thank you again, so much.
@@KatesAg My classs will probably be on zoom through our local college's Institute for Learning in Retirement. I am planning on 8 wks. one day a week for two hours a session. I will send you a picture of one of the rice harvesters in action.
Thank you that sounds interesting and I bet the pictures are terrific.
Hello Kate and Big Sky Country, golden grain fields forever and John Deere combines. Hi to Grandpa please ask him to tell of the farming past. Take care and thank you for your videos!
Thank you so much for your kind words and excellent suggestion. I will have to see if Grandpa could share some farming stories.
cool. good work
Thank you for your wonderful kindness!!!
👍👌🇨🇦❤, well done Kate
Thank you so much for your kind words!!
The amish are a strong community of people come together.
Yes I agree.
Bye grandpa hope to see more of you
Thank you for your comment.
Interesting video, I also love banana bread 👍, your grampa is smart he drives a chevy lol
Homemade banana bread is the best. My Grandpa loves his Chevy. Thank you so much for your comment.
Your optics are great and you really work the camera just like we are actually there. Based on other videos I’ve seen, that is not easy to do. I can almost smell the wheat and dust! I also noticed you seem less comfortable up high on the grain bins. I am allergic to heights too!
I really appreciate your kind words and encouragement. The grain bins are a little high. lol . Thank you so much.
I do understand about farming. There is some long hours and there free time to. Harvest time it's the busy time of year.
you are my favorite farm channel!!!
Thank you so much for your kindness. You made my day!!!!!
Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion you are more than welcome! question: why do you cut wheat in windrows and the pick them up later. why not cut and pick up the grain in one step as i have seen done on other farm channels?
Thank you that’s an excellent question. In our area we commonly get a fly called Saw Fly. They cut through the wheat stem and lay eggs in it. When this happens the wheat no longer stands up anymore instead it lays down. This makes it really hard to strait cut the wheat because we would have to lay our combine headers on the ground and we would not be able to get all of the wheat. We try and swath the wheat before it falls down. When the wheat is swathed it is much easier to pick up with the combine because it is all together rather than laying down. Occasionally we are able to strait cut the wheat because we plant semi - solid stem wheat which is a variety of wheat with a stronger stem that doesn’t fall down as easy. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for your question.
Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion It does makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Nice video Kate! You may be able to tilt the steering wheel down and hold it steady with your knees while having a drink... it works for me! Very heavy windrows!! 😀
Thank you for your kindness and great suggestion!
I'm fourth generation farming as well, my great grandparents came from Norway and settled and pioneered our farm in southern Alberta in 1917
Wow that is really interesting. My Great Grandpa came from Denmark and homesteaded our ground in 1912. Farming has great history.
@@KatesAg Awesome! Yes it certainly does. You should consider doing a Kate's Farm History video with lots of 4 generations of pictures. It would be your most interesting and most popular video so far. I would be fascinated. Do you have many old pictures? My grandfather said to me when I was a kid "ask all your questions now because I won't be here forever."
Oh please show the schoolhouse and the farm.I love History.
Thank you for the great suggestion. I will have to get some close up video of the old school house. My Grandma went to school there.
I would like to go work with you in Montana. I like agriculture and also learn to drive combines.
