In this video I show you the controls in the cab of the combine that I use. I also show you how I harvest barley. Yes we have a grizzly bear in the neighborhood eating our neighbor's grain pile. This video will rap up the 2020 harvest videos.

My Story... Hello. My name is Kate Stephens and I am a 16-year-old 4th generation farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was 2 years old. Until recently the wheat we grow has been taller than me. My grandfather is 93 and he is the best mentor ever. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm and I decided that the amazing photos I take at harvest of our wheat and barley could make fabulous, exciting designs for fashion and accessories. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my handbag as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
Kate has great combine etiquette. She waves at the other workers, and they wave back. Kate is a well-mannered, likeable young lady. Our world be better off if more people were like Kate. :)
There is a TON of talent behind that pretty face. She knows all there is to know about the equipment. She sure does love to talk about it, too. Most girls her age have no idea how to run a combine that large, and they don't care to. She is genuinely interested In the process, the equipment, and all facets of the farm. You are a great asset to you parents and you will never regret all you have learned while doing your job. Keep up the good work sweetie.

When I was in high school I worked on a large ranch they had 750 head of cattle. We put up 50,000 bales of hay for winter and had to buy another 15,000 bales to keep the cattle happy thru winter. This was near Calgary Alberta Canada . I learned a lot and it was much fun.

I am surprised about the dust making you itchy. You should have a cab which is totally sealed and a hepa filter air supply into the cab. Also for heat you should have an air conditioner to blow cold air at you they cost only about $150 for one which would keep you cool. If you can't seal the cab wear an industrial N95 respirator mask. Your health is utmost important to us all watching you. You cannot be any more gorgeous than you are Kate.
Thank you for your great suggestion. Our cabs are sealed and have air conditioning. When we move around outside is when we get in contact with the grain and dust.
Hi Kate you do a great job describing the life of a framer. I live in the east in virginia and you know I think a lot of people take what you do for granite . But for me I do appreciate everything your family does to put food on the table. A friend of mine told me one day people in the east will have to tear down houses and buildings to be able to plant food to eat. I think you're the first person I've ever seen or heard of who acknowledges the benefit of straightening out the path. I've never farmed but I've always done the same thing mowing lawn and have had many people ask me why I waste gas mowing across the already mowed area. I gave up trying to explain it decades ago.

glad that you dad put a fence up to keep the grizzly bear out i agree with you plus that s a good idea because i want you and you dad to stay safe
Thank you. The electric fence really only deters the grizzly bears. On the downside it makes them really angry and they can go right through it. We try to be safe and keep a watch out for them because they are extremely dangerous.
It would be very interesting to see if you invite some of your schoolmates or your best friends to your farm and show them all the Equipments you used for farming and make a video with them and know there reactions!

Maze itches really bad too. Some type of hay I was cutting a few days ago made me really itch when I was changing out bad blades. But other than that it hasn't been to bad. I am just so glade I can do farm work without having problems with asthma. I had asthma in my younger days trying to work on the farm and ranch. It would cause infection in my lungs and my airways would close off and I would be gasping for air. Praise God I was able to trust Him for healing and deliverance. God is good. Nice to work on a farm and be able to breath. :) I must say it didn't happen over night and I didn't even know it had happened. I told the Lord while I was praying last year of how thankful I was for how good He had been to me. But I had one complaint and that was that He had not healed me. I said I always liked farm work and I would love to do it. A few weeks after that I went down to my brothers to get a tire changed at the shop. My brother says I could use some help. I said you mean you want me to help you. He said I could use the help. I said OK. WE STARTED BUILDING FENCE OUT ON THE RIVER.
Then we went to sprigging and digging Bermuda. And before I for sure could never do that because of all the dust. Brother says recon you can do that. He knew I always had problems and ended up at the hospital. I said I don't know I will try it. Well I was able to do it. Then from there we started hay and I never was able to do this for any length of time. But I have been doing it all year. Unbelievable. Prayer and faith work. But I will tell you I have spent many years in prayer about thousands of thing especially praying for good health. So don't expect it all that fast but do not give up on God and prayer ever. Hi Kate My grandad settled on 50 acres in Australian after he fought in world war 1. a hundred years ago this year they milked 20 cows by hand nd raised pigs Today we have 450 acres. and my son is working with me today

Hi Kate! About six months ago three grizzlies got into my garbage, and made a mess! The neighbors had a freezer full of meat that they found and ate like kings for a few days! Then they raided the across the street neighbors chicken coop and ate all the chickens. Everyone buttoned up their stuff and they moved on. It was a mother and her older two cubs which I could tell because of my cameras! I'm in the northwest part of Montana.
Oh my goodness!!!! That is scary!!! A neighbor had a grizzly in their Quonset but didn't know it and when he went in to look it attacked him. His wife saved his life by honking the truck horn and driving up as close as she could. He was seriously mauled. I don't think they found the grizzly. We are all very careful even here on the plains because the grizzlies are coming out farther and farther to eat grain.

I like your channel and the fresh approach you bring to farming. Like your grandfather i ran an open combine back in the day. For awhile I was jealous of your cushy ACd cabs but then I realized that you will never experience the ecstasy of jumping into a cool farm pond after a hot day on top of that machine. And you’re right barley is the worst.
After a few days I learned to swim around awhile before the clothes came off. Otherwise they were so dirty my Aunt would not let me put them in the washing machine without “prewashing”. Swimming was a lot more fun than the bucket and toilet plunger she made me use.
Although farming did not turn out to be my career it did teach me a lot of the life skills, like responsibility and hard work, that made me a success in life. It’s cool that you listen to your Grandfather, he probably has a lot of good information, which is a lot easier way to get it than fumbling through the school of hard knocks.

I really believe that it is important to make a difference. I want to let consumers know where their food comes from. It doesn't just come from the grocery store. I also want people to buy local and support their local farmers. Every little bit helps. The products I am designing are made in the USA and I think that is really important. I see all these people selling their "merch" and it all comes from China. I don't understand how that helps support our local farmers and our country. I believe that if you are promoting your brand and American farmers then you should sell things that are made by Americans. Do you have a book or a website that I could read about your story? I'm glad you believe it is important to help others too. That is really fabulous. Thank you so much.

Here is your german Fan writing again. Unfortunately, I've been home sick since Monday. This is no fun these days. Country music is playing on the radio and I'm watching your video. On the one hand it awakens my own memories, on the other hand I get a strong desire to travel to the USA. You and your family and visiting the farm would be awesome. Let's see, maybe in a few years. During the time on the farm, also as a truck driver, it was always nice to experience the sunrise and the sunset. This is something special about a machine or a truck. I like that you are not like the other girls your age. My daughter is also 16 years old but doesn't drive a combine harvester! Until now, she has not dared to get behind the wheel of a car.

Ur the hardest working 18yr old girl I've ever seen...ur dad is fortunate u r helping him...
To answer ur question, i worked on tobacco farm and cow farm...most of the work was done by hand...we had some farm tractors, flat bed trucks, farm trailers and cut off buses...i was a teenager then too...worked very hard...
I'm not sure of the acreage...very tiny compared to ur dad's farm...i want to guess 60 acres tobacco and 20 acres of straw hay and alfalfa.
