    I have the Sparrows ones as well, and while I they work great for full sized KiK cylinder type pins, they grip a little loosely on smaller padlock pins. What I did was take a pair of similarly sized jeweler's tweezers I had extras of, and ground in a rounded channel using a diamond burr, about 1mm in from the tip. This pair grips all sizes of of pins great, and took maybe 5 minutes to do with stuff I already had.

    I got $1 set of 4 different ones from the dollar store, then torched the tip for 5ish minutes til it glowed nice and red, then used a piece of 3mm rod as a template and then pressed each side of where I placed the pin with pliers to form it. Little bit of filing/sanding and you've spent $1 on them instead of $10+.

    Great video. Very well done with great explanation. Thank you for the contribution. As others have pointed out, you can modify your own if you have a good pair of tweezers to start. I happened to have a nice long, thin profile, high quality pair of locking jewelers tweezers. I modified them with a 2.5mm end mill. Then diamond filled the outer profile. Night and day compared to using straight tweezers. World of difference!

    I hear you, I wish I was able to get this kind of pinning tweezers for a reasonable amount of money but so far I've been out of luck. The tweezers I have are the ones that came with the HUK pinning tool set and those are regular tweezers. In order to make things a bit easier I've filed slots into the ends which has improved grip a bit but not by much. But well, some day ;)

      @@HelpfulLockPicker They aren't, IF you live in .. let's call it the civilised world, i.e. a country Sparrows is willing to ship to. As they aren't willing to ship to mine (I've asked and frankly, I can't blame them) the only choices I have are resellers who add a significant markup or re-shipping services, that add a lot of shipping cost on top of regular costs. Both options push the summed up price beyond what I call reasonable. And as this is more of a secondary hobby I'm not willing to pay more than 30 bucks for a single pair of tweezers
      edit: I've just found 3D printable pinning tweezers on thingiverse, maybe I'll give those a try

      @@HelpfulLockPicker Malta, a few pebbles strewn into the Mediterranean Sea ;) I totally get why they don't want to ship here, because doing that is a royal PITA. It's difficult, it's expensive and not exactly reliable. And it takes a loooong time. Maybe I'll pick one of those up once the pandemic is over and I'm able to visit friends in corners of the world that can be shipped to more conveniently.

    Great video My friend, the funny thing is that i do have some pinning tweezer's but I always drop the pins with Them or the pins Are either too small or too big for the bend in Them so the cheap tweezer's i got from wish works better For me anyway 😅

      I have the same problem. They work great for kwickset or schlage pins as long as they aren't security pins. Won't work with any padlocks or most challenge locks. I'd guess they dont work too well for dimple locks that have a smaller diameter pins either...

      @@lockmania-locks I'm wondering what brands you have tried. Mine are sparrows brand. And they are perfect for some things. Just not everything.

  • @Pyrolock
    @Pyrolock Před 3 lety

    There are several brands of pinning tweezers out there -- I tend to use the Sparrows ones, but I've never seen a bad one from other vendors. Sometimes I like to use the Brockhage "reverse" pinning tweezers that hold the pin in place automatically, and you have to squeeze to release the pin. A quality set of watch / clock tweezers can also be quite helpful for grabbing springs, etc. Note "eyelash tweezers" are pretty useless as HLP has shown

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  Před 3 lety

      The reverse tweezers are interesting to use from time to time but I consistently use my sparrow ones but mine are a little bit older but work well

  • @roysammons2445
    @roysammons2445 Před 3 lety

    I think you have to use both types to appreciate the curved tip. Ther only thing I would have suggested to add is when repinning the bible in a small space. The classic issue with tweezers that don't have the curved end is the pin rotating (like you showed) whilst trying to put a pin in chambers 3 inwards in a bible.

  • @BrummieLockPicker
    @BrummieLockPicker Před 3 lety +2

    Nicely done HLP 👍
    If you use a round needle file and file some grooves in a pair of cheap tweezers then they work fine too
    Quality pinning tweezers are good but not everyone can afford them 💵

    Excellent video. You need to know that these size pinning tweezers will not hold American or MasterLock pins. That are too small and will not even grasp them. Make sure you purchase the correct size.👍🦊

      @@HelpfulLockPicker Your right. My tweezers Grips are larger than the Sparrows. It depends on the manufacturer.

    • @SilktheAbsent1
      @SilktheAbsent1 Před 3 lety +2

      It might be loose tolerances in the manufacturing. My pair of Sparrows tweezers won't grip padlock pins tightly. They work great on regular size pins, though. I ended up making another pair that I use more, using a pair of jeweler's tweezers and a round diamond burr to grind a small channel about 1mm in from the tip.
