    Brawn GP was just one victory short of making the list in just the one season they competed. I just love how Brawn GP is such an oddity. I remember the first race of the season the team had almost no sponsors. After they won the race every company wanted their name on their car.

    • @tcmn1982
      @tcmn1982 Před 3 lety +14

      Don't be romantic. "Every company"? Brawn GP had several sponsors but few had contract for all season like Henri Floyd (for clothes) and many sponsored only for one or two races. The team had to hunt sponsors and it was big news if Brawn GP would gone last until the end because of lack of money. The world was in recession. Richard Branson's Virgin almost stopped the sponsor because of the high cost. And no one trully believe in that car, except for Ross Brawn, his team, his pilots and F1 fans. This kind of trouble only praises the team's effort.

    • @Allyphant2909
      @Allyphant2909 Před 3 lety +37

      @@sharl_leg The FIA doesn't try to stop them? Before COVID-19 we were about to head into a second major regulations overhaul in 7 years. They unfroze engine development because the Mercedes power train was that good. The cost cap is designed to smack right at the heart of Mercedes's organisational dominance. The change in aero regs to reduce the massive aero advantage Mercedes has had over recent years, too.
      Ferrari dominated to a significant extent (though not exclusively) because of tyres, so the FIA changes the points system and the tyre regs to even the field up.
      Red Bull dominated because of blown diffuser technology and their flexible front wing so the FIA ban them (flexible front wings were already banned but Red Bull found a way around the tests) to even the field up.
      Mercedes dominate because of their engine, so the FIA unfreeze engine development and then make the cars far more reliant on aero performance to even the field up. Mercedes dominate again so the FIA then makes the cars far less reliant on aero performance, refreezes engine development now that there is something close to parity, and stops the biggest teams using a financial advantage to out-develop their competitors to even the field up.
      The rules have changed to slow Mercedes down just as much as with Red Bull and Ferrari. Mercedes have just been far better at adapting, staying ahead, and sometimes pulling even further ahead. It is also worth remembering that Ferrari had the quicker car on more weekends than Mercedes in 2017 and 2018. Bottas was behind both Ferraris and a Red Bull in 2018 and behind Vettel in 2017. Mercedes won the titles that year because they had a better lead driver. The two cars were roughly equal, it is just that Hamilton thrashed Vettel

    • @LunnarisLP
      @LunnarisLP Před 3 lety +12

      @@sharl_leg like the other guy said, you are talking bs. Mercedes simply is best at adapting, and they have the best drivers, therefore they deserve the dominating position they hold. It's not the job of FIA to put Ferrari on top again when they decide to do a real shitty job with their cars even though they have great drivers.

We first of all haven't had that many races until now and second of all they didn't even win all races, so it will take them at least until race 15 to actually be ahead of Williams. Are you dumb?

      Before the Second World War Mercedes-Benz competed in the European Championship, winning three titles. The marque debuted in Formula One in 1954. After winning their first race at the 1954 French Grand Prix, driver Juan Manuel Fangio won another three Grands Prix to win the 1954 Drivers' Championship and repeated this success in 1955. Despite winning two Drivers' Championships, Mercedes-Benz withdrew from motor racing after 1955 in response to the 1955 Le Mans disaster.

    This could be re-made with 2 additional versions, which also are as much correct as this one. Few of the top teams have always been known with their names that still exixt, yet some teams have changed names quite a few times, and become something else. I think 3 different teams have raced under Lotus name and current Renault team has nothing to do with the late-70's Renault, and the history of current mercedes is something else than what 50's mercedes was... It is very interesting stuff and can sometimes be quite confusing.
