The banter between you guys is the best! Obviously the scripted stuff is great, but to me the best part of tCZ is when you go off on random tangents together like fried chicken, fitness, sriracha sauce, and even non-end step moments like bouncing combo ideas off of each other, reminiscing about a certain play that happened once - all obviously unscripted moments together. And then a lot of times you'll both snap back to the camera like "Hey! Moving on..." and then it's back to the show - no! Please, continue bantering! It's the most entertaining part of the show!

Great job guys. My LGS is super competitive, so obviously I decided to build a Ramos Dragonstorm deck. It felt very good to sit down at a cEDH table and win turn 4 off of a Dragonstorm. The best part, nobody was prepared. They had no clue they needed to stop a dragon onslaught.
Could not see Dragonstorm viable in anything else.

Regarding cards that are only good on some decks. In Neheb, the Eternal I play cards like flame rift that just only deal damage to everybody inluding myself just to get value from Neheb's ability. In any other deck this is just 2 mana deal 4 to everybody which isn't too impactful when people have 40 life, but in Neheb it's essentially pay 2 mana, gain 12 which is amazing. Another example is my Marath, Will of the Wild deck in which I use Ivy Lane Denizen, which is normally terrible, but in Marath it just means that I can freely make tokens and he never runs out of +1+1 counters.

A deck I play the uses absolutely crazy cards is a deck with Scion of the Ur-dragon and Mirror Entity. Which abuses the fact that you can essentially pay 3 mana at any point in the game to instantly turn all your creatures into 1/1s with all creature types. I play a lot of tribal synergies in there that wouldn't normally be a thing together. This way it goes infinite or swings for huge damage out of the blue. I'm not saying it's a good deck, but it's so much fun seeing a bunch of junk that wouldn't normally work together, suddenly have such crazy synergy.

I don't see or hear much about Cascading Cataracts, so I'll say this: it is really good with Urborg and Cabal Coffers. Any 2+ color deck with black and that runs the big black mana combo should run Cascading Cataracts. You're essentially paying one mana to turn 5 of your black mana into something else you might need, it's insane!

My fave Commander right now. Tons of recursion and tucking things from graveyard to the bottom. Also ton of scrying. Thrumming stone is insane in this deck. I run goblin bombardment/impact Tremors and some of the goblins that come in make more goblins. Gets pretty nasty. Obviously sac outlets are great. If the game is taking too long and I have impact Tremors or goblin bombardment I just use doomsday and from bottom to top put Anger, Goblin Marshal, Siege gang commander, krenko, chancellor of the forge. Super fun deck.

Checked partway through this video at the checklist, as I built a very similar version when the first conspiracy came out. (Namely, was happy someone else ran clone shell)
But I have a very important question, that may be addressed later in the video, but still...
WHY ISN'T JAR OF EYEBALLS IN THIS LIST? It's not hard to kill stuff off in a grenzo deck, and is somewhat encouraged. Meaning jar of eyeballs let's you gain some advantage by both grabbing 1 of x cards, and ordering them to the bottom. This has enabled SO many combos, and I feel should be highly considered in any grenzo list.

My favorite bad card EDH is my Mathas deck that could almost qualify as board wipe tribal, but it plays the card Bounty hunter which has a very strange interaction with Mathas as they both use bounty counters and bounty hunter becomes a repeatable murder stick. Additionally Kulrath knight plays really well because bounty counters now act like bribery counters turning your opponents dudes into permanents that you can trade a spell or spells into in order to draw cards.

I wanted to do a Grenzo deck for a long time. My initial plan was to put it in my Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck for the X in Grenzo's cost but then I started to buy cards to make him a different commander, but at the end I didn't find time to it, many other commander ideas rolling. Maybe I could put it in my Alesha, Who Smiles at Death deck, all the creatures there have power 2 anyway.
I love to make decks out of typically unusable cards, that's my thing (therefore I dislike overpowered cards that are just goodstuff by themselves). The most obscure card I run would be Gaze of Pain in my Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck to capitalize in the snakes' deathtouch.

I play Horobi, Death’s Wail. Ordered most of the cards from CardKingdom/commandzone ;-) for $14. Such classics as Squee’s Toy, Eyeblight Assassin, Xenic Poltergeist, etc... With Horobi out, all those just read “tap, destroy target creature”
Wincon is Yahenni or Malakir Cullblade w/ Consecrated by Blood + Lashwrithe. Since sacrificing is a cost (not targeting) Yahenni CAN gain indestructible and equip/enchant even with Horobi out. Cullblade has to be equipped before Horobi is cast.

I have a fun deck that is all odd stuff that doesnt really go other places. Its not the strongest but Animar is the commander and 100% of the spells are spirit or arcane. It gets a lot of value off of cards like Haru-Oona, Skyfire Kirin, and Petalmane Baku. Also, it's super budget.

    • @simoncss1
      @simoncss1 Před 6 lety +1

How's about Riku in place of Animar at the helm? He gives more bang for the buck for Spirits that already bring value & doubling up on Arcane spells with Spliced-on ability sounds really cool

    • @devlinbowman5251
      @devlinbowman5251 Před 6 lety

      Simon Choo Sze Shiong
I will try that. I went with Animar because most effects of spirit creatures are not worth the mana costs and Animar reduces most of the expensive ones drastically. I save on the lack of sufficient ramp in the deck with Animar since it is primarily creature based. If I were to splice an arcane spell and pay Riku's additional cost to copy that spell the value he gives would commonly be outweighed by the cost being in the 8 and above range. One thing I did consider was making space for some general value and running cards like Riku and Mizzix in the deck but it breaks the theme a little bit. Thanks for the suggestion!

Definitely my deck with some of the weirdest cards is my Maelstrom Wanderer Chaos deck. Cards like knowledge pool, omen machine, possibility storm, ect. are only good with a chaos strategy. The deck doesn't necessarily want to win, but instead wants to make the game more interesting/difficult/fun for everyone else.

Ay throwback to when I Madcap Experiment and get a Hangarback Walker after 3 cards two games in a row. What happened: Spend Four mana to bolt myself and mill myself for three.

i like grenzo. very fun cards to play. you should add mindclaw shaman, and gonti. also i run 12 relentless rats, i feel josh version is still competitive in a way because of all his removal and tutors. i still feel grenzo is good enough without tutors. i find myself still winning because i will be able to have fun in the beginning but out of nowhere (if im allowed to have the odd cards like epitath golem to stay around) i can produce multiple rats out of nowhere at an end step and then attack with six 7/7 rats

This deck needs more Kaboom! Also, where is Flayer of the Hatebound? The cards you get from Grenzo hit the graveyard first, so when combined with Flayer you get to sling tons of damage.
Honestly, these cards are sooooo good for this deck though.

Could Ravenous Chupacabra be included with the creatures with removal attached? It doesn’t come with the drawback of not hitting artifact/black creatures and it has 2 power unlike Shriekmaw

Great deck tech. I love using more obscure cards in my decks just to see my opponents go "What?". My Jolrael, Empress of Beasts deck is chalk full of those types of cards. I have a question though. You have a lot of ETB type effects yet you do not run Panharmonicon or Strionic Resonator. Is that personal preference or do you just feel that those cards aren't worth inclusion?

Grenzo is one of my favorite commanders and my favorite enchantments to play is Carnival of Souls, you lose 1 life and get 1 mana whenever a creature enters. More creatures played means more Grenzo activations, means more creatures played means...

I don;t have any unique commanders but here are some underused/undervalued cards.
If I can I try to put Possibility Storm into all my red decks. the ability to disrupt my opponents plans is strong.
Goblin Spymaster is in my Jhoira deck.. If forces them to get creative with their goblin token or swing out and since you don;t have to swing out it encourages opponents to attack elsewhere.
For blue decks that generate lots of mana, Mindshrieker is absolutely wonderful as it pumps itself up big and you can mill yourself or your opponent while doing it. Flying gives it evasion too.
Aetherize is a card I seem to hold forever and rarely play as Cyclonic Rift and others I play first but can be wreck an entire opponent when I finally do. It is why you never swing out if you are ever playing a blue deck. I am not sure how many blue decks play this card.
Followed Footsteps costs five to play but it abuses etb effects or another way to cheat high mana cost creatures onto the battlefield. For example you cheat a non-legandary eldrazi on the field then get another each turn. Tap effects like Achivist or fatestitcher become insane when you get multiple copies of them on the battlefield, and finally you can also enchant an opponents creature.
Enchanting an opponents creature is slow and odds are you won't get the token. However it creates a very large incentive for the other opponents to remove that creature. When multiple copies of legandary creatures are on the battlefield that have punitive effects on multiple opponents and it can be fixed by removing one creature, that creature has a tendency to die. It forces your opponets to do something about the threat it kills one card and forces another to use a card as well preventing card advantage from one of your opponents. There have also been situations when the player with the enchanted creature kills his own creature because of it as well. If you actually get a token, well that's gravy. It is just a sick card.

Salvage station combo plays a ton of weird cards, since salvage station is a weird card in itself.
I also want to know your guys idea for an aristocrats deck in edh. I am trying to make one helmed by Queen Marchesa, using a slight pillowfort defense in Teysa and Ghostly Prison. The biggest issue I seem to have is consistent early damage. I can get token producers online, but can't seem to do anything but stall until I get purphuros or outpost siege, and blood artist is typically instant removed...

To the Listeners: I play Grinning Totem in my Lazav deck. First its fun that everybody every time starts to read it, and trying to understand it. Then it works really well with Lazav's ability. I tutor my opps deck for the best creature, refuse to cast it, and when it goes to the graveyard Lazav copies it. Fun, fits the theme, and couldnt imagine using it anywhere else :)
