      Why does the Vizier of POISONS not have infect or at the least deal damage to players in poison counters....
      I don't like infect, but when you name a card POISON and it gives -1/-1 counters all over the place it really should have a Poison counter mechanic.

    • @Eliarbreton
      @Eliarbreton Před 7 lety +1

      Infect was not a mehcanic in the set, for some reason they only stick to a couple of mechanics in each set, so the card could not have infect

    • @markyday9076
      @markyday9076 Před 7 lety

      Infect is specific keyword ability, like landfall. It is NOT evergreen. It never has been. Never will be. Even if they have one or two cards that are functionally similar, if the block isn't using the keyword as a block theme, there is no reason to put it on. It would disenfranchise new players who have never seen infect before, and end up with a Hapatra during a sealed or limited game. Landfall functionally appears in most sets, but only gets labelled as landfall in a Zendikar set.

    Nest of Scarabs from Amonkhet is pretty much an auto-include.
    An enchantment for 2B, it reads "Whenever you put one or more counters on a creature, create that many 1/1 black insect creature tokens."
    The new Liliana, Death Wielder could be pretty good as well. She's 5BB for a planeswalker, which is a little expensive, but she starts at five loyalty, +2 to give target creature -1/-1 counter, -3 to destroy target creature with a -1/-1 counter on it.
    On top of that, there's the new sorcery called Liliana's Influence. It reads "Put a -1/-1 counter on each creature you don't control. You may search your library and/or graveyard for a card named Liliana, Death Wielder, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you search your library this way, shuffle it." That's some pretty good value. Six mana to put a counter on each creature an opponent controls and get that many snakes. Following turn, cast the Liliana you've just tutored into your hand and kill on of their biggest threats. Sneks then protect liliana. Seems pretty good to me. Even if you don't run the planeswalker in the deck, Liliana's Influence is still an amazing card that sets your deck up for some pretty disgusting synergy and combos.

    Can't believe I haven't commented here sooner. I'm in the process of building mine now! Word of note: Hapatra+Blowfly Infestation+Blood artist (can be substituted) with any creature dying is infinite damage. You keep putting the -1/-1 counter onto the new snake you create, killing it and repeating the process. Hope to see Hapatra visited again at some point! She is super sweet and the game knights video is what inspired me to make her the first commander I ever build from scratch.

      Karador, Ghost Chieftain. He does all the things i like to do in commander. He brings so much value along with him there are lots of good cards that go infinite with each other i didn't even realize :D Also if they stop you you can just play the value game and beat everyone down but i'm guessing that you've experince that for your self :) I'm looking forward to building Hapatra. When you played her it looked so fun. You are just a really good deckbuilder you sat on your own and you made her work really well and she seemed like the worst of the bunch to me.

    Here is a three cards combo in Hapatra that I found (I have search google and did not found anything about this combo). It involves Devoted Druid, Flourishing Defense and Stoneforge Masterwork. Equip the Stoneforge on Devoted Druid then tap druid for mana and untap it by putting a -1/-1 counter on it. This will trigger Flourishing Defense that creates an elf token, which gives +1/+1 to Devoted Druid, thanks to Stoneforge. Because Druid thoughness is boosted from the +1/+1, you can repeat this infinite; giving you infinite elf token and infinite green mana.

    @-KillaWatt- Před 7 lety +27

    I feel like this deck needs Carnafex Demon

    • @GuardianAngelEatos
      @GuardianAngelEatos Před 7 lety

      Yes I thought of that too. I think that's more of a preference card for the deck than a must have though since using It's -1 counter to everything else ability would kill all of your snakes. You would have more than before, but any that you had that could attack would not be able to attack that turn. Also using it twice would kill Hapatra, which is the last thing that you want to do since the deck heavily relies on Hapatra being in play. You'd have to use it once, then after Hapatra dies if Carnafex Demon is still around bring Hapatra back and use the ability of Carnafex Demon for the second time.

    • @-KillaWatt-
      @-KillaWatt- Před 7 lety

      XenoSmasher I totally agree with that. I think the Demon would be good if you are in a position where you can't attack with your general or have anything that can put out -1 counters (like Containgen Clasp

    • @GuardianAngelEatos
      @GuardianAngelEatos Před 7 lety

      Yeah if you have cards like Contagion Engine or Contagion Clasp I can see it being worth it to use Carnafex Demon's ability if you want to get rid of a bunch of creatures so you can swing in for more damage or if just like you said you need to get rid of a bunch of creatures.
      You're right. You don't have to remove the counters, but then he's just a 4/4 flying for six mana, which is not worth it. You would only get one snake. Hapatra only gets you one snake per creature that you put a -1 counter on no matter how many -1 counters you put on a single creature. You could put ten -1 counters on a single creature, but it would still only give you one snake. Now Scarab Nest and Flourishing Defenses are different. They will give you a 1/1 token for each -1 counter that you put on each creature, so for example let's say that you have one of those two cards out and you play Black Sun's Zenith and X is 5, and there are a total of 15 creatures out with a combined toughness of 50. You would get a total of 50 1/1 creature tokens.
      There are good number of cards that are really powerful in this deck, however I think Black Sun's Zenith is the most powerful since you can clear the board and then give a ton of creature tokens. It's almost like Garruk's Wake, except it doesn't destroy planeswalkers, but you can cast it for less.

  • @GuardianAngelEatos
    @GuardianAngelEatos Před 7 lety

    For people who are interested in making a Hapatra deck, here are some other great cards to have in your deck. Some are must haves, while some depend more on how you want to build your deck.
    Flourishing Defenses is a must have since it makes a 1/1 creature whenever a -1-1 counter is placed on a creature! This an Hapatra together will get you tons of creature tokens! It's the same thing as Nest of Scarabs, except it costs two more mana and It's green.
    Quillspike is great if you have a lot of creatures with persist and or creatures that give themselves -1 counters. It's a cheap creature that for only one black or green mana you remove a -1 counter from one of your creatures to give Quillspike +3+3 for the turn.
    Quillspike with Devoted Druid and Hapatra for a infinite power and toughness creature and a infinite number of 1/1 deathtouch snakes anyone?
    Lockjaw Snapper is a 4 mana 2/2 creature with Wither that puts a -1 counter on each creature with -1 counter when it dies.
    Cauldron of Souls allows you give any number of creatures Persist, allowing you to not only bring back your non token creatures, but get lots of snake tokens with Hapatra.
    Incremental Blight for five mana gives one -1 counter to one creature, 2 to another creature, and 3 to another creature, allowing you to weaken/kill up to three creatures and get three snakes with Hapatra, and six tokens with Scarab Nest or Flourishing Defenses.
    Carnifex Demon comes into play with two -1 counters, so that triggers Hapatra, and you can pay one black to remove a -1 counter and give each other creature a -1 counter, which could give you tons of snakes. You just have to be carefull with using that ability.
    Ashnod's Altar is a great card for mana ramping! It should be in any creature token deck since you can create so much mana with it!
    Champion of Lambholt is another must in the deck, since it gets a +1 counter every time a creature comes into play under your control, and creatures with less power than Champion of Lambholt can not block creatures you control, making it easy to get Hapatra through to get It's trigger, and for getting a ton of tokens through to help close out the game.
    Westvale Abbey is another must have. I don't think I need to explain why this should be in any creature token deck.
    Mind Slash is another nice card since for one black and sacrificing a creature you look at a opponent's hand a discard a card from it. Late game you can easily take out someone's hand, or at the least you can remove threat cards.
    Blade of the Bloodchief helps make Hapatra big, making it much harder to kill it in battle. Even though It's not a vampire, lots of creatures are going to die in a commander game, especially with a ton of -1 counters and all the 1/1 deathtouch snakes.
    Evolutionary Leap helps you get the next creature in your library into your hand by just sacrificing a snake and paying one green mana. You can also sacrifice a bunch of creatures when a board wipe happens and have you plenty of untapped mana so that you at least get a bunch of card value.
    Phyrexian Splicer can take flying, first strike, trample, or shadow from a creature and give it to one of your own for the turn by tapping and paying 2 mana. Very helpful for against decks with lots of flying creatures since flying is one of the weaknessess that I found with a Hapatra deck. Although It's not the best way of using it, you could even use Phrexian Splicer to help get Hapatra though to someone to get It's -1 counter trigger.

    Josh, did you consider adding much in the way of +1/+1 counters to the deck? Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, for instance, as a way to balance out minus counters and allow you to keep building your board.
    I'm definitely thinking about it a lot, with all these effects that benefit from placing minus counters, as a way to remove them and get to keep placing more. I'm doubly thinking about it as I'm planning on including persist creatures in my deck, including Cauldron of Souls, so adding plus counters allows me to reuse those.
    Similarly, did you consider Mikaeus the Unhallowed? Giving your creatures Undying so they can come back and then remove those plus counters with Hapatra et al so they can keep dying and returning seems sweet to me.

I have so many cards that synergise well with eldrazi, but I have no idea what commander would bring about the most fun with using scions to pay for bigger spells. could you help pls? also love the videos, can't stop watching ur game nights. Yawgmoth is an amazing combo piece to add, going infinite with hapatra and any blood artist effect
      The 3 drop black enchantment from ikora that has the cutthroat effect is really good
      The new sword of truth and justice really does alot
      There is a couple new cards but without the big cards like cradle and stuff like that, you can build a really strong budget version

    I don't agree with the eldrazi token generators...I'd rather have Phyrexian Altar and Ashnod's Altar. You saw how many snakes you ended up with. What are you doing with one extra colorless mana a turn?
    Dusk Urchins is so...slow. Vampiric Rites let's you turn your snake into cards. And Evolutionary Leap.
    My Hapatra deck isn't going to have anything to make the snakes big but if you do then Greater Good is the best card in Magic. Instant Speed free sac outlet, draws cards, fills your graveyard. You get massive value from boardwipes.
    Seriously, Greater Good is one of the best cards in EDH.

    • @joshleekwai8895
      @joshleekwai8895 Před 7 lety +1

      Halophilic NC I disagree but I appreciate you're reasoning. Here's mine: the eldrazi token makers work great with cryptolith rite, slate of ancestory, skullclamp, Doubling Season, parallel lives, craterhoof et al. The altars do not.
      Greater Good is amazing but in a deck with primarily 1/1s it is not at its strongest.
      And something you're not considering about dusk urchins is often on the play (and sometimes not) on your turn three no one else has a creature. So I was looking for decent three drops that I could place a -1/-1 counter on in with hapatra in that scenario. And it's not embarrassingly bad late. Even if you don't put a counter on it that way - playing it on three and then attacking 2/3 times and getting 2 snakes and drawing 2 cards is just fine and dandy.

    • @Brawler_1337
      @Brawler_1337 Před 7 lety +1

      Josh Lee Kwai It also has sweet, sweet synergy with Black Sun's Zenith. Kill everything toughness X or less, get Snakes equal to the number of creatures on the board, and draw X cards? Me gusta.

      @halophilicnc6473 Před 7 lety

      That I hadn't considered about dusk urchins. it makes the cut. Josh, I see your points about the eldrazi token generators but I personally would rather play more things that do something with my commander and more free sac outlets to protect from stuff like Lignify, Dominate, etc.
      But that's the glory of Commander right? We all get to make our decks the way we want! Keep up the great work!

    It just hit me that you have thirteen mana ramp cards in the deck! I'm curious as to what they all are? I know Cryptolith Rite and Sol Ring is in there and probably Ashnod's Altar, Wall of Roots, and Sword of the Animist, and maybe Plague Myr and Perilous Forays, but what are the other six? I would think thirteen mana ramp would be more than needed for this deck since I'm guessing it doesn't have that many high mana drops. Is it to increase the chance that you have enough mana to play Hapatra after he/she dies many times, and still have mana to make another play?
    Also what are the other two board wipes aside from Black Sun's Zenith and Contagion Engine? Is Midnight Banshee one of them?
