      Yeah max knows how it is. He gets told constantly how he wouldn't win if not for his car but he knows how much work he's put in to make the most of having a good car, so he knows the same is true of other racers if they have one thing go their way doesn't mean that it was guaranteed or not earned. I'd bet if it were at least half the grid (and probably more) in landos position they would not have won.

  • @XxMidnightRavenxX
    @XxMidnightRavenxX Před měsícem +12

    IMO the side by side racing from Gasly and Ocon is proof that they should get rid of the rule that states that whoever is in the lead in a corner owns the whole corner. If drivers are not allowed to run out their opponent on corner exit, the result is what we saw from the Alpine duo in this race. As we saw if the drivers care about giving space to their opponent on the corner then you get more side by side racing, which is more exciting than the DRS passes we have all become accustomed to watching.

    • @matthewstreit1650
      @matthewstreit1650 Před měsícem

      That rule is probably more to prevent crashes than anything else. If a driver thinks they can just stick their nose anywhere and not expect to get pinched, then there will be a lot of instances where drivers will dive bomb or just not be seen, and cause a crash.

    I do think Max sustained damage from the cone hit. His complains about the car not turning are coherent with a lack of front wing downforce. Still, it was his own fault and it doesn't take away from Lando's win.
    Edit: I don't think he would have won, maybe there were chances, but I agree with all of you that both McLarens had better pace, even before Max hitting the cone. I just think media and youtubers fail to mention that. It wasn't damage comparable to what Piastri had though.

      There are pretty good signs that Lando still would've beaten Verstappen without the cone happening.
      1. Once Lando was given the green light to chase down Sainz, his pace shot past Verstappen's for the rest of the race.
      2. Lando was already faster than Max in laps 19 and 20 (Verstappen hit the cone in lap 21).
      3. Piastri was also flashing OUTRAGEOUS speed. The three fastest laps in the GP were all set by Piastri.

      People act like this RB is unbeatable, but in dozens of races since 2022 RB were actually the second fastest car or at least equal to another team.
      Max still won most of those races because of his riduculous consistency, but it is perfectly normal to get outpaced in specific tracks on specific conditions.
      Norris got lucky and used it incredibly to show that the Mclaren had a lot of pace this weekend. You just have to wonder how many times a team had pace to beat RB but comitted mistakes or had a bad qualy and couldnt prove it.
      That is what makes Max + RB combination so deadly. They are always maximizing what the car can do, other teams and drivers cant do that.

    there's a few things to be highlighted for this SC situation.
    1. Lando did miss the pit entrance when the SC is on because he's 11+ secs faster, at that moment, I thought that's unlucky for him!
    2. But on the other hand, this 11+ secs in front of MAX also let the SC deployed behind Lando and picked up MAX! basically slowing ALL cars for Lando to have a FREE pitstop, that's HUGE and Decisive!

    My favourite part is that it HAD to be that Lando's first win was the win that put into question Red Bull's dominance.
    Lando had finished 2nd to Max so much in the last 12 months that it just HAD to be his first win with the resurgence of McLaren, that would pull up all these questions of "Well Newey's leaving the Red Bull F1 Team now and already that grip looks like its slipping? Are McLaren finally gonna come through and be the ones to knock Red Bull off their throne? McLaren already have another big package in the works according to Zak Brown, could that one see them genuinely have the fastest car?"
    There is so much buzz. Bcs while Carlos has won twice. It's always been on weekends where Red Bull have been highly off-beat or when Max has retired. For Lando and McLaren to do it, and do it so thoroughly (7+ seconds by the end, and lapping upto 5 tenths a lap quickest of the grid with fastest lap after fastest lap and also faster than Max on 27 lap-old mediums while Max was on fresh hards) has made this not only a great statement from Lando to prove the critics wrong, but a big day for F1 as a whole.
    Probably the biggest win he's ever fought found himself fighting for, and it was the first one he saw through. Can't wait to see how this evolves and how this post-win-confident and hopefully less self-deturring Lando goes about his business, and how McLaren utilise upgrade packages now seeing that they've made two massive packages in 2 years, and both have payed off MASSIVELY.

    Also, I'm kind of torn when it comes to the 2 tire compound rule happening under SC/VSC. It's such an unfair advantage. I get that it's for safety reasons in case someone gets damage during the incident, but it just seems so unfair.
    And on the lack of Red bull pace, I think the 1 practice session could have played a big role in that. I don't want to jump the shark and say Mclaren is on the same level as the Red Bull just yet. It could have been as simple as red bull getting their setup wrong, which has happened before.
