I own a Sportster S and I love it. My 2020 street Glide special is a good bike yes but it’s heavy and doesn’t come close to the engine pull of the sportster s. The sportster s I would say compares performance wise to a MT09. I know this cause I just sold my 2021 MT09. The sportster s is comfortable smooth and with way better brakes and suspension then the typical 883 1200 sportsters out of the box. Thanks for the review.

I just saw my first Sportster S yesterday. It was already sold. The mechanics and the manager took turns on it. Since it was already sold, they didn’t think they should put any more miles on it. It was interesting! I do believe this is a good direction for Harley-Davidson. I rode the Street Bob quite a bit. My brother bought one and didn’t have his license yet. Then, my sister-in-law bought one too and I had to ride it home for her too. Their house is about 75 or 80 miles from the dealership they bought it from.

My suspension was better but the M8 rev'd quicker, ran cooler, & didn't shake my hands to sleep. I rode a VROD (the 1130cc with 115HP and 74ft lb torque) for the last decade until I got rid of it this year for the 21' SB. I can tell anyone who may think the SB with the 114 (90HP with 120ft lb torque) isn't going to have enough power. I have 1400 miles on my 21' SB, yesterday went a little hard off a start, spun the tire and when it gripped, the front wheel was off the ground! Not by much, say 6 inches, but that is the first time I've had the wheel of any of my Harley's off the ground. That bike continually surprises me. It is definitely the hooligan bike of the classic Harley styles. I highly recommend the Street Bob. It doesn't have the top end of the VROD, but it FEELS soooo much more powerful than those low torque numbers the Revolution engines put out. Lets face it, there is not enough road to need all that top end horsepower numbers, we need light to light power which then you need the 114. Besides with the wide tires, that Sporty is gunna have some troubles in the corners. She looks built to go fast in straight lines only, just like the VROD. The VROD could not hold a line in a corner if its life depended on it and the Sporty looks to be the same. I like where Harley is taking things, I'll just hold out until they have figured it all out first.

And I've got news for you, that tail light license holder is rad legit cool ! Its not about what it looks like from the side, its about what it looks like from BEHIND. The more time I spend with my Sportster S the more I like it... I actually love the pipes, the sound, the feel, the LEDs all-around, and the tail light assembly is absolutely legit; I'm just sayin.
Also, the state-of-the-art technology package installed on this baby is second to none (Pan America same) and that 4 inch TFT display is AWESOME... again, no comparison with the Street Bob... sorry.

But, when it's time to do some serious riding here in the North Georgia mountains the V-rod is pretty damn fun. It's not the best at high speed turns but when it straightens out it's a beast. Enter the Sportster S: The Sportster S looks like it will do everything I want it to do, with a very similar engine that the V-Rod has but now with great handling and power. The sportster is conforming to standards required in many European markets, where the 'fender' has to extend beyond the rear wheel. They do that by making that rear section be part of the 'fender' it's ugly as sin but legally required in many countries, we see it a lot in Australia and everyone changes it immediately.

Had a 92 Sportster back in the day but I was doing a lot of track stuff and the sportster had to go.
I always loved the look of Harley’s but they just kinda didn’t fit what I was doing.
Anyway Fast forward to 2021 - Harley put the 114 motor in the softail frame - that had me doing some deep thinking.
The other thing that got. me in the dealership during Christmas is the Street Bob has mid controls..
That was the only way I could make the transition to a cruiser.
I’ve ridden some of my friends Harley’s over the years and for some reason forward controls always felt kinda F***ed up to me.
Anyway when I got to the HD dealership the sales associate was real cool, we talked bikes for a while.
He asked me if I had seen the new sportster.
He put the bikes next to each other and I went over every detail.
The sportster’s power is closer to what I have now, inverted adjustable shocks , more sport oriented cruiser, etc.
There was a lot of reasons on paper why I could have easily went with the Sporster.
Bottom line - that Street Bob is Seriously F***in Beautiful. Clean and Mean.
Plus - That motor in That Frame ⁉️ A few tweaks and this thing is a F**kin Animal😈❕
I think you did an excellent job at describing the real differences between those 2 bikes man.
The Sporster is bad-ass , no doubt, but for me in the end - it HAD to be the Street Bob 🤘.
Later Brother - EXCELLENT COMPARISON VIDEO ✅

Other than the guy that wants a second or third bike to toy around with or companies that wanna build a Harley for racing, idk who the sportster s is for, I have a scout bobber which is a fun bike but no longer suits my needs I want to get a Harley for more daily/ longer trips but living in Vegas both new and used bikes are pretty expensive. The only thing that's stayed consistent in price are the regular sportsters

Comparing the engines, I just rode a fat bob 114 and although it's faster than my old ride (Yamaha 1300 vstar) and sounded great, it wasn't scary like the Sportster s. The acceleration was not even in the same class. Yes the exhaust sounds like a scooter, but new pipes will fix that. Power is crazy.

Hmmm... Had they somehow managed to make the new Sportsters air-cooled I would have at least test ridden it and decided between these two bikes... Given that I would keep looking at that hideous radiator, the Street Bob 114 was an easy choice. No regrets whatsoever on the Street Bob. Train loads of pull, sounds glorious with a full system and handles so well, I feel no need on getting back on a sports bike and hanging with my fast mates in the hills... In fact, they have trouble staying with the Street Bob on many sections 😄 It's a fun bike and you'll be hard pressed to find fault. One very happy customer right here for the Street Bob 114. Superb bike. Love it.

Very good comment about respect if you are a beginner. I drove high powered bikes many years ago and I’m about to get back into it but in order for me to stay safe I know that I have to respect the bike and my environment it’s absolutely crucial. Having said that I’m in New Zealand I’m trying to get one of these or an Indian Scout bobber. Shipping is just insane nothing is getting here spirit lake just say sorry”perhaps next year” and pretty much the same from Harley. It’s so upsetting because I love both bikes the Indian and the holly. So now I’m going to just go for the DiavelX.

The Street Bob can be upgraded to any extent, a Stage 4 131 can be put in it, an S&S crate engine will transform this into a drag strip king. The Sportster S is fast but it can’t be made faster to a great extent. The Street Bob looks better in my opinion and it also gives the better feel of riding

The Sportster S has nothing really going for it in my opinion. It has abandoned the classic Harley styling, and it also lacks the performance and handling of similarly styled bikes in the same price range. At least the Street Bob doesn't portray itself as a performance motorcycle, people are paying for the classic Harley look. The Sportster S doesn't live up to the hype.

  • @rickbradshaw2148

Here’s why the Sportster S isn’t a great motorcycle… it has no purpose. Meaning, you can’t tour on it, it’s not a track bike, it’s not for customization, it’s not for beginners, it’s not a heritage replica, it’s not an adventure bike, it’s not really anything…. I guess if you want 120 hp to ride around town for 30 minutes at a time, then it’s your bike. Other than that, there’s a better option at that price point for every style of motorcycling. I like my street bob because I’m growing with it… if I get power hungry, I’ll just go stage 2 or stage 3… if I want to do light touring., the road warrior fairing has me covered. If I want to do big miles, I’ll get an FXRT fairing. Bags? Plenty of options. More comfort? It’s upgradeable. The sportster s isn’t great at anything really besides making power and you can’t make it become anything else.

    • @throttleblip9854
      @throttleblip9854  Před 2 lety +1

While I agree with your points, it does have a place. HD had to be responding to the Indian FTR when they made this. There are groups that do that type of riding. Im not one of them either but I do see them. I also work for a power sports company and see a few models come in there that are the same, not designed for anything other that just spirited riding for lack of a better term.

@@throttleblip9854 I hear you, but an MT09 SP or a Ducati Monster 1200s is just much better suited for that. If you’re going to be dragging knees in the canyons, you don’t want a 28” seat height and forward controls. I do think Harley can make an amazing sports bike with this platform. This isn’t it….could you imagine if they put forwards and a 28 inch seat height on the Pan Am? It would have been a complete dud. I see they wanted a scout competitor but they should have just built the Bronx… probably would be a pretty awesome contender in the naked category
