    Thank you for this. Having some issue with my JDM spec XR 250. Only way to get a replacement was to order internationally from Japan or so. Halfway through the work now and this helped a lot. Instead of the electrical tape, I hope to use soldering iron and with black wire ties as "weld" filler. If needed 5 min cure two part epoxy. Another alternative can be baking soda combined with super glue. That also is great to fill gaps and do it super quick as well

      This could be a battery problem, and maybe a problem with the relay, sometimes a problem with the electrical wires, and sometimes with the starter motor itself. Start by test the battery.
      12.7v no load
      More the 10v with starter load

    That was some fine work you did there, may I ask would you know if there's a fuse as part of the starter relay on a Honda XR650L?

      You mean this part???
      SWITCH ASSY., STARTER MAGNETIC
      35850-MY6-671
      In my opinion, yes, there is a build-in hose for the main fuse, but I did not find the catalog number for that main fuse. Does Honda sell the fuse separately? See an example in the link I attached below:

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  Před rokem

      It is as shown in the video. Give the relay a voltage of 12 volts and two things need to happen: you need to hear the click of the relay, and you need to check that the contacts that are supposed to connect are really connected and conducting current.
      When the relay is connected to the wires loom on the motorcycle and the starter switch is pressed:
      If there is no click, or if there is a click and the starter motor does not turn, then there is reason to suspect that the problem is with the relay and then replace the relay. And maybe the problem is a weak battery???
      A video cannot be a substitute for an official study of the subject through textbooks or dedicated courses for motorcycle mechanics.
      If you are not in control of the subject, you should go to a qualified mechanic, this is the best and cheapest way to keep the motorcycle properly maintained.

    Hello I have an crf450x an my relay doesn't work anymore, I bought another one(couldnt find the oem one but find on who looks identical but without connect the plug and just connect the 2 wires(from the battery and to the starter) the starter run, so my question its if exists starters relay normaly open and normaly closed (I mean looks identical but works different) thank you

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  Před 3 lety +2

      Hello dear friend, I'm not sure I understood the question. The original component (OEM) is usually very expensive, an aftermarket part may be significantly cheaper. It is possible to wire a different connector to the replacement component. Do not make a mistakes in this matter, like wirring wires to the wrong pins. In the case of My Honda Innova the relay includes within it the main fuse. If you do not have an electrical diagram to look at, and you do not have the necessary knowledge, it is not recommended to mess with it, it can be really dangerous! Please consult a qualified car electrician.
      The starter relay in Normally Open (N.O,). The N.O. & N.C. works according to the same principles. The "Normal" it is when NO current is flowing through it (when the starter button is NOT pressed)

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  Před rokem +1

      The main fuse is build-in the starter relay assembly, so maybe this fuse is blown, but maybe your battery is dead, and maybe the battery needs charging and the coils are dead? And maybe both, or something else. I think it will be easier to help you in the CBR forums (You can also try to search there for similar questions):
      www.600rr.net/
      www.cbr250.net/forums/

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  Před rokem +1

      In principle this is possible, because the relay is also used to connect the main voltage line to the entire motorcycle. Check that the connector is well connected, that the contacts to this connector are good. Check that the main cable, the plus one from the battery, check that it is fastened, and check that it is fastened to the correct terminal. There are two terminals, in both there is a RED cable, The other one doesn't go to the battery, it goes to the starter, and their places must not be replaced.

      @@MyINNOVAMotorcycling thanks for the input man I bought a new relay and I'm going to hope that fixes the issue I've been looking everywhere on the bike but nothing is out of place I've also voltage tested and power is definitely being sent throughout the bike. I tested my battery and it reads 12.4V and when I turn the switch into the on position on the bike it stays the same. But something happened when I was testing the relay and the wiring connection to it the bike sounded as if it was attempting to start. It spooked me honestly I wasn't expecting anything and stopped what I was doing right away. When I removed the relay I heard a rattle sound coming from it not sure if that means anything but I'm just going to try it with the new replacement coming Sunday and hope it works.

      @@FrostyD3viL
      12.4 volts is borderline. A normal battery should show a value close to 12.7. Switch-on mode does not create a special load. A battery that shows 12.4 volts can also be a dead battery, because the important value is its ability to provide current. That's why the important test is during startup (when cranking), that's why voltage is measured during startup (during cranking). If the voltage is below 10 volts when cranking, it means that the battery is dead (it doesn't have the power, it doesn't have enough current).

I will bring my battery to get tested tomorrow hopefully it is just a bad battery and a new one will fix the issue.

      Thank you very much. It's a component that doesn't break down easily, it's a very reliable component, and it works even after I've broken it down into parts and reassembled it. Currently I think the Chinese aftermarket part is installed, which is also very reliable.

      @@romaingranger9232
      Knocking on the starter it sometimes helps sometimes don't. A stuck starter needs to be replaced. From what you measure, 11.5V is not a normal value. Try electric charge (controlled charge), should be at least 12.4V. If the battery does not hold the minimum voltage of 12.3V then it needs to be replaced. Then see if the problem is resolved, or if there is another problem.
      Just please. I share knowledge, I do not advise, your decisions you make are on your(sole) responsibility.

    I think my starter motor not working I clean the carburetor and it work OK when I kick it over, but not with electric starting

    • @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
      @MyINNOVAMotorcycling  Před 9 měsíci

      Start from the simple things. And check the battery.
      Is the battery weak? When you try to starting the lighting in the instrument panel aimed?
      And of course you can measure voltage on the battery terminals with Walt Meter. Volt after charging should be 12.7V, and while starting with electric starter, the voltage should be higher than 10V.
      And if you are already measured on the battery terminals, with normal charging system you should measure a voltage of about 14 volts in a idle rpm.
      And at the same time you can check if the ignition click and creates an electric contact.
      Please, if you do not have previous experience, or you are afraid to do damage, do not hesitate to contact a qualified mechanic.
