Unfriended 3: the actual good version
Given that the second film had literally nothing to do with the first one and didn't even have any supernatural elements, you could legitimately call this an Unfriended sequel and people would proudly be willing to accept that it's just better than the last two.
Unfriended: We finally figured it out.

I was expecting to be a complete disaster, but it surprised me.
Me too I was going to pass it, but now I'm going to see it

The trailers are messy and look super mellow dramatic. I’m really glad it didn’t turn out that way. The adds should of had better editing, a lot of people are probably gonna skip on it because of how bad the trailers look.
Adam Mehal The trailers made me think it was going to be the stereotypical shitty phone movie type.
it really subverted my expectations
Brielle Anuario surprised everyone

Can we appreciate that this movie literally took the piss out of Unfriended? They basically memed it in the scene where the Dad hears about Tumblr for the first time.
What actually happened? Curious now.

Then the trailers were really fucking bad. Glad Harold is getting good movies.
Yeah I got an ad for this movie and the trailer was the most cookie-cutter generic mixture of Taken and Unfriended. Looked like an absolute bore.
Just goes to show how much power those snippits have and the way they're cut influences ones impression of a movie.
The trailer told me "AND YOU WONT BELIEVE THE TWIST AT THE END OF THE FILM"
I was positive this was gonna be shit
Reeeally glad I watched this video cause as soon as I saw the trailers I was like ‘damn can’t wait for the YMS video’ lmao looked absolutely terrible
I hadn't seen a single trailer for this movie but almost avoided going to see it based on the notion that "it's the mashup of Megan is Missing and Unfriended nobody asked for", and even good reviews didn't do much to sway me. I only saw it because of the half scene points redemption thing they had going on and... I'm so fucking glad I did. The first 10 minutes had me a bit unsure but when we got to how David was coping since his wife's death i soon went "alright this could be great". And from there on it just got more and more gripping. My thoughts are the same as yours honestly. Every time i thought the worst had happened, it pulled another rug out from under my feet but did in a way that Didn't feel like they were trying to cram as many twists in. I'm definitely watching it again first chance i get. I've already heard there's plenty of rewatch bonuses.
That's 1 thing I really loved. The twist were surprising yet not "That literally makes sense" shit
Your avatar reminded me that we really do live in a society.
Do tell me a bit about this movie because I'm under the impression its mediocre at best.
To be fair I judge a lot of stories based on their presentation and writing so I'm not wowed or I'm never EVER going to say "Oh that's clever" unless its something that affects the story presentation or something which to me the movies already a gimmick so I'm not wowed.
To me this movie seems like a cash grab from those movies about the internet and all the fucking directors did was grab a half assed proof read screen play and just did all this shit. And now sense yourmoviesucks and 98% of people are desensitized to shit and are willfully accepting of anything thats above garbage it's wowing people to all hell and back.
I mean that's just my perspective esspecially since I realize my perspective on games I once thought were so "Technically and artistically complete' were actually shit I feel more inclined to believe this movie is mediocre and not go see it as oppose to accepting some pessimistic guy who on the daily reviews shitty movies because its his job so automatically has a bias. It'd be like the equivulent of watching grown ups two 1000 times and than watching any other movie.
Of course I could be wrong.
I dont think adam knows how to count to 8
Better than Valve.
Yea yea usually dumb joke, this could a 8 and he gave an 8 to "Eighth Grade"....OOOO I SEE WHAT HE DID THERE whatever
HBTB 2750 This was too cleverly hilarious to go unacknowledged.

Quite a fitting name for Adum looking for a great movie
Not for your momma's fat ass, amirite, dudebro?
Haha nice one! Up top!
If people want a movie that represent Asian, instead of mentioning Crazy Rich Asian, they should mention this film instead.
Agreed
Your Friendly Yandere yes support the movie that presents Asians as actors and not just pandering to Asian audiences
TBH it's only after you mentioned it, I thought, "Oh. Yeah. It has Asian people. Huh.... Didn't really care...."
Then that means it works, you saw the character as people, not Asians
@@FriendlyYandere If anything, Crazy Rich Asians is simply a stepping stone in representation while Searching represents the end goal.
It's amazing how well-executed each red herring and plot twist were. The foreshadowing is perfect too, the way it all comes together is so satisfying. Only issue I had is that I felt some scenes were overly preachy.
Your rating system confuses me because school has conditioned me to see a 70% as terrible and a 100% as standard
TubbsTheCat what easy ass school has 100% as standard?
Easy? What about keeping an overall grade of 100% is easy? If you fuck up on anything your grade plummets. It’s easier to maintain a balance at around 80-98 but a 100 is like the peak of a mountain. It has the best view (best for your grade) but once you fall the damage might just be irreversible if you’re far into the semester. And getting over a 100 is once in a lifetime rare since HS teachers have decided recently that extra credit is for babies apparently. Maybe college is different? Idk what the fuck y’all are doing that makes 100 easy. Actually, maybe I’m not asking the right question. Are you American or are you from somewhere with a different grading system? I have heard of systems where you start with zero and can only go up but I’m pretty sure most places just start with 100 and let things go downhill.
welcome to absolute scale. hurry up and graduate so normal people can relate to you
I don't get it, 100% means you have done nothing wrong (or have made up for it with bonus assignments) how can that be "standard"?
I don’t make the rules man!
I've actually been waiting for a movie to use this concept and not completely trip over its balls with it.
Megan Is Missing 2
Only if there's a scene with Harold's daughter talking about choking on dick
I thought the exact same thing when i saw the first trailer of this movie. Then i checked on imdb and was kind of relieved but also sad, that its not directed by the one and only legend Michael Goi xD
this time its discord and the movie is just voice like audio drama
the mouse movement will be amazing in that . it might even will an oscar .
The ending had me shook. I thought I had it thought out on who the killer was but I was definitely caught off guard
So I just saw Searching and it was *suprisingly great.* There was clearly a lot of thought and structure put into this film and is great. And I'm giving this one a *6/10*
It's Unfriended but actually good this time. Didn't expect to see John Cho in a horror film.
ziljin it’s not really horror per se
Seems more like a thriller than straight up horror

good to see u positively talking about a film
Thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling- I'm surprised you didn't go into character actions more... Before people realised she was missing, a girl who knew Margot barely acknowledged her as an acquaintance, but when everyone thought she was missing (presumed dead), that same girl made a video on youtube, crying and calling Margot her 'best friend'. There's some almost uncomfortable realism with how the director portrayed situations like this, where people who didn't care about or know the recently missing/deceased make a song-and-dance (if you will) about the victim to either not look heartless or for their own personal gain. That and other character portrayal is realistic and had me hooked. Can't wait for the dvd release.
"and it was surprisingly really great. 7/10."
thats a 9.3/10 in ign scale

It's so wholesome hearing Adam say he enjoyed a movie
I thought this was gonna be Meghan is Missing 2: Electric Boogaloo
Woah! Adum finally said a film was great
I know. But considering I usually agree with his perspective. I think it reflects more on the fact that do much garbage is produced more than him being an overly critical reviewer though.
this is the most calm I have ever heard of your voice.
This is my favorite movie this year. So glad they took the format and did it correct this time.
This is the movie I wanted Unfriended to be. I'm a big fan of the found footage genre and when it's done right it IS an exercise in creative limitation.
This movie was pretty great. One of the better cinematic experiences I've had in a while. Don't wait for it to come out on video to see it, because having the full theatre screen allows you to appreciate all the detail packed into the film.
...what...? The full theatre screen allows you to appreciate all the detail packed into this film...? That's literally the opposite of reality. What world do you live in...?
At home, you get a sharper picture, 'cause the screen is closer to you; it also emulates the film's medium better, considering a lot of it takes place on computer screens; and watching at home, on "video", means you can pause it at points to make sure you can see all the, y'know, DETAIL packed into the film. Like, seriously, the only thing better about seeing something in a movie theatre is atmosphere, and that is IT. Saying it allows you to "appreciate the detail" for ANY movie is just...what? Have you ever watched a single movie at home?
4:12 Rian Johnson would be proud
Dude, this is Dark Web!
This is the *_LAST_* movie I expected to actually do well! That is incredible.
Somehow, combining Unfriended with Megan is Missing makes a quality film.
I’ve seen this movie yesterday because I thought this movie isn’t going to be great and everybody talked about this movie while releasing late summer, and I have to say it was great. 9/10 for me it’s basically a tense point of view experience about a father who tries to involve every media in his computer and phone to find his missing daughter by someone’s suspicious stalker and it’s nice to make a good visually experience that you felt this father was becoming suspense and shocked for finding his daughter. Fantastic film and you should push it more like 8 instead of 7 it’s quite good and the acting was quite good whenever this person feels or the father goes his scared emotions that I can see he felt shocked and terrified. Great movie.
Thanks for recommending this movie. I really don't think I would have found out about it otherwise.
Man, if you're not a mil subscribers by the end of this year there's something wrong with this site.
...wait ... You said it was *great!* LMFAO what holy shit ok cool
Still 7/10 though

TableWrens 7/10 is great what are you talking about
7 is two points above 5, which is average. So it's above average.
After your quickie review of Host and after chatting with my friend about it an Unfriended it crossed my mind that I had Searching on my radar and I was in the right mood to check out the film and man that was a great film, so refreshing to see a film take this computer perspective in an actual smart and engaging way.
tbh the whole background alien invasion thing on the 2nd viewing was what made it one of my favourites, so much is missed in one viewing!! 7/10 is a solid rating

I freaking love it when you like/love a movie. I don't know why, but it's cool when you are pleased with the experience of what you watched.
I also love how they acknowledge that people don’t just use the internet for chat groups and facebook.
It's always a joy to see a post from you, Adam.
And to think, this film wouldn't exist without Unfriended.
STRONG SEVEN TO A LIGHT EIGHT
Well, it is nice to see a movie formatted and filmed like this can be done well.
It's great to hear that something could take the creative ideas that were botched in Unfriended and build on them in a positive manner. It shows that this style of movie can work if done right and it isn't a lost cause.
Elyse and James over at Funhaus already convinced me to go watch it, and I don't even bother with social media (Apart from youtube) so most of the websites will just go over my head. Thanks for the review.
Great review! I went into this pretty hesitant but it’s probably the most pleasant surprise of the year (so far). It’s a shame it’ll largely be in Unfriended’s shadow since it’s superior in every way with far more effort put into every aspect. If anything, I think Megan is Missing might be a better comparison (and obviously Searching is superior to that film as well). I was surprised by how many times the film subverted my expectations and that it didn’t use its format as a mere gimmick but rather as a creative way to tell a story. Great performance from John Cho too. After this and Columbus, I hope we can see him get more dramatic lead roles.
I went to go see this while my friends went to see "The Nun" in 4DX, SO glad as I felt like I'd seen something worth catching ASAP whereas they wasted 2hrs and £10 each for nothing! My screening finished about 10min before theirs did, I ended up chatting to a staff member checking tickets outside to pass the time who was curious about Searching and ended up saying a lot of the same things to her mentioned here, so now I feel extra validated.
After being pummeled with ads for this film on CZcams, it's good to hear some positive first impressions. Encourages me more to go and see it at the cinema, thanks YMS!
The trailers could have been better because I would have never expected this review! Ill probably see it now

Oh shit, this must've been really good.
Few things this movie did that made me extremely happy:
-That YouCast site was pretty clearly a Periscope/live video on any Social Media ripoff, but it actually looked polished and understandable, like someone who actually fucking uses computers designed it. Props for allowing your shitty ripoff to make sense!
-This is one of the most brilliant ways of foreshadowing I’ve ever seen. It may seem pretty obvious to a lot of you, but the subtle little hints that rely on your memory to be able to piece together shit was really clever.
-Damn John Cho got old.
One of my favorite movies I’ve seen this year.

I saw the trailer for this and waited for you to do a YMS. I'm pleasantly surprised
Can you explain your rating scale sometime? I always love your commentary but then I never feel like your rating reflects your commentary
Had no interest in seeing this. Thought it was gonna be shit like unfriended. First 10 seconds adum says it good. Brb going to get tickets.
Oh man. It was so good. There were a few moments where I thought it would take a turn into something exploitative or lazy, but the movie never did that. Instead, they predicted that that would be your reaction and played with it, drawing the moments out to create tension. It plays with the format without hampering itself.
With that much effort put into the execution of the movie, it’s pretty admirable and almost unheard of nowadays. Especially because it could’ve been a cheap throwaway movie (Unfriended, The Gallows or Megan is Missing) that could easily make back its budget yet have many obvious mistakes and a carelessness to it. Props to them for taking a misused concept and giving it credibility.
Eight Grade is a pretty great movie about the internet and middle schoolers.
Searching is a pretty great movie about the internet and abduction/murder cases.
Stick 'em together and you have...
Megan is Missing?
How come you don't implement the light-to-strong scale into your rating system? Then you could just say "strong 7 to light 8 " instead of "its probably closer to an 8 than a 6"
...because it would be a pathetic rip-off of another CZcamsr? Are you seriously suggesting something this fuckin' dumb?
I'm so glad I saw it. I was looking forward to it and was dreading it was going to be bad!
I just saw this and it’s great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I kept waiting for the computer screen thing to feel gimmicky or contrived but thankfully it never did
This is probably the best possible advertisement for the movie do far. Idk why, I can’t even look 2 seconds at the real ads without thinking “oh wow, just what we needed, another Unfriended” which is admittedly stubborn of me, but I’ll accept it lmao. Gonna have to check out some actual ads of this and probably watch
Saw this the other day. Fucking loved it. Really has heart, has few moments of suspension of disbelief.
Manages to be so warm, funny, and gripping through the cold interface of a computer.
I really like what you do man, I mean you went as far to dig insane and obscure movies like Ex-drummer, even most people in Belgium have no idea this thing exists and if they did, a lot of them certainly wished they didn't. If you like that "brand" of Belgium sinister humor maybe you've seen "Man bites dog" or it's called "c'est arrivé près de chez vous" in french. It's a classic and load of fun. Also much older but it still stands the test of time, me think.
It did the format a justice it always needed
i’ve never heard of this film but it sounds awesome! thank you for the recommendation!
First video from a YMS in a while I've actually been interested to see.
Really felt like the people making this movie understood how the different social platforms work, their strengths, weaknesses, the kinds of content you would expect to find on them and even the idea that different people put more effort/attention into the platforms they identify most with.
This movie was fucking great, so many little details that made it feel so authentic were almost surreal, really looking forward for upcoming movies from this director
