Yes, I thought for sure Academy would be the first card mentioned. Also, I'm surprised for guys that play Vintage they didn't mention how powerful Goblin Welder and Mindslaver were for a long time.
my favorite combo is knight of the reliquary, search for dark depths, play thespians stage, copy dark depths, dark depths gets sacrificed since its legendary, and since it enters the battlefield with the ice counters on it, and the new copy doesnt have any, then it gets sacrificed and you have a 20/20 flyer.
Flash + Academy Rector was so good that Flash was given Power Errata. Later they removed the Power Errata because that is stupid and Protean Hulk became the new creature you used, and after one legacy tournament Flash was banned, and it dominated along side Gush decks until it was restricted in early 2008. Auriok Salvagers + Black Lotus was an infinite mana combo that used Æther Spellbomb to bounce everything draw your deck, play your creatures and take a free turn off of a time walk effect. That deck was called Bomberman. Is Dragonstorm dominated standard and extended for a while. Tooth and Nail was a great extended deck, and if I remember correctly, those were green/blue tron decks that had Academy Ruins + Mind Slaver as a back door combo as well.
Some that went unmentioned: Flash/Hulk, Cadaverous Bloom, Sneak Attack, Enduring Renewal, Sword of the Meek, Recurring Nightmare, Dream Halls, Tinker, Land Tax/Scroll rack.
Hm, best combo cards, Here are a few good ones: Isochron's Scepter, Survival of the Fittest/Fauna Shaman, Splinter Twin/Kiki-Jiki, Voltaic Key, Goblin Welder, Hermit Druid, Tinker, Flash, Channel, Entomb+Exhume, Dark Ritual/Rite of Flame, Brainstorm/Ponder/Preordian, Necropotence/Yawgmoth's Bargain, also Rings of Brighthearth as an honorable mention.
I would have defined combo cards as cards that are sub par or outright bad/pointless by themselves but become amazing when 'combo'd' with something else. So stuff like Painter's Servant, Time Vault, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Illusions of Grandeur, Intruder Alarm etc
There was this deck that won the world championship of 1997, that featured Shadow Guildmage and 'enters play' cards like Man o War, Nekrataal and Uktabi Orangutan. The Guildmage could just return cards like Nekrataal and it would destroy creatures over and over.
During my first 3-4 years of competitive magic I seen these and they will always stand out in my mind: 1. Cadaverous Bloom, Squandered Resources, Natural Balance, and Prosperity. The fact that all 4 were in the same block was kinda nuts. 2. Replenish, Opalescence, Attunement, Parallax Tide and Wave. All in Type II at the same time. 3. Tinker, Phyrexian Colossus, Voltaic Key 4. Phyrexian Tower+Academy Rector=Yawgmoth's Bargain/Will+Soul Feast Think this is what the Original question was asking
Squandered Resources + Fastbond in play, Tap and sac all lands (min 6, but more is better), with at least 12 mana (15 is better) - Jokulhaups Then Yawgmoth's Will. - you need 3 more mana; so play 3 more lands from your graveyard with fastbond then play Shaman's Trance and a good idea to play Zuran orb. ~~ Now you can play all the lands out of your opponents graveyard (Sac em for life and play em again for infinite life, this works since they don't get exiled cause they don't go to your yard) - Then tap the lands, sac em play em etc and cast all the cards from both your and opponents grave yards. ~ ~ Dumbest most complicated combo; But pulling it off is the best.
Stasis-Kismet-Capsize was my favorite combo when I was playing. I didn't win all the time, but that deck was fun regardless...and everyone else HATED that deck. That made it even more fun to play. >:D
I have a life gain deck that is pretty good but one of my combo's is playing a soul warden, it takes a little while to get going, but I make it indestructible, and then throw a sunbond on it. I have 4 angels feather that give me 1 life each time I play a white spell which triggers the sunbond and gives soul warden a +1/+1 Bare with me here please. i'll then play a second soul warden which triggers the angels feather giving my enchanted soul warden another 1/1 counter, and for the second soul warden coming in the enchanted card gets another 1/1 it gets very nasty very fast, you can play congregate or angels mercy but sunbond gives you as many 1/1 counters for each life you gain...
what abouuuuuut....Sylvan Library and Abundance?? Draw 3 cards each turn without paying life, and choose land or non-land for each one! I think It's awesome.
Hmm... Sanguine Bond, Exquisite Blood, Pulse Tracker. Turn 6 win without mana acceleration, If you're running BG with an elf engine or if you have Dark Rituals it can come out earlier. (Sanguine Bond = every time you gain life , target opponent takes equal damage, 3BB. Exquisite Blood = whenever an opponent loses life you gain equal life, 4B. Pulse Tracker = 1/1, whenever Pulse Tracker attacks every opponent takes 1 damage, B).
Honarable Mention Pestermite\Deciver Exarch+Splinter Twin or Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker 10.Entomb+Reanimate 9.Counterbalance+Sensei`s Diving Top 8.Survival of the fittest 7.Hexmage+Dark Depths 6.Anything With Storm 5.Anything With Dredge 4.Oath of Druids 3.Tinker(One card combo) 2.Flash+Protean Hulk or Academy Rector 1.Timevault+Voltaic Key
Dark ritual, entomb, put any creature in ur deck into ur graveyard the with the 2 mana in ur mana pool from ritual u play exhume my fav black combo of all time for gettin any creature in ur deck first turn
It wasn't out at the time, but when I think of versatile, high impact combo cards, I think of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Sure, it was pretty niche and mostly just good as a Commander, but man, you can combo SO much with that guy.
pillipala and grand architect, infinite colored mana. ive won quite a few funny games with thar combo, add some tutors, and you can mill them to death, shoot them to death, yeah.. fun combo.
Love this! It's pure magic nerdness and the aura of two of the biggest players ever!
This show seriously needs to come back.
If only TSG wouldn’t have stolen ten of thousands of dollars worth of bonfires
I really really enjoy it when Patrick Chapin is in these, make him a regular!
I'm just sitting here looking at the old card prices and am amazed that Kozilek was only $4 back then
"Buylist"
Listening to two super pros like this is amazing. The cards popping up helps newer players a LOT and it's a great vid. Keep this stuff up.
Who is here years later remembering being a kid watching this
Yes, I thought for sure Academy would be the first card mentioned. Also, I'm surprised for guys that play Vintage they didn't mention how powerful Goblin Welder and Mindslaver were for a long time.
lsv used to be realllllll chunky good for him that he lost alot of weight

Wow whoever edited this is a genius.
my favorite combo is knight of the reliquary, search for dark depths, play thespians stage, copy dark depths, dark depths gets sacrificed since its legendary, and since it enters the battlefield with the ice counters on it, and the new copy doesnt have any, then it gets sacrificed and you have a 20/20 flyer.
Don’t think those cards where out when bud was released

Nice performance Humphrey!
Humphrey's commentary, spot on.
Some that went unmentioned: Flash/Hulk, Cadaverous Bloom, Sneak Attack, Enduring Renewal, Sword of the Meek, Recurring Nightmare, Dream Halls, Tinker, Land Tax/Scroll rack.
@Torleep Definitely. Great combo.
that shotgun at 3:17 scared the shit out of me
Innovation can involve taking what exists and evolving it with success.
Hm, best combo cards, Here are a few good ones: Isochron's Scepter, Survival of the Fittest/Fauna Shaman, Splinter Twin/Kiki-Jiki, Voltaic Key, Goblin Welder, Hermit Druid, Tinker, Flash, Channel, Entomb+Exhume, Dark Ritual/Rite of Flame, Brainstorm/Ponder/Preordian, Necropotence/Yawgmoth's Bargain, also Rings of Brighthearth as an honorable mention.

I won a vintage tournament with Aluren/Pandamonium [insert gating creature] aluren slivers was pretty damn good too.

Recurring Nightmare/Great Whale - Caused an errata on the land untapping cards.

There was this deck that won the world championship of 1997, that featured Shadow Guildmage and 'enters play' cards like Man o War, Nekrataal and Uktabi Orangutan. The Guildmage could just return cards like Nekrataal and it would destroy creatures over and over.
Did they mention Fork with Channel Fireball? How about two of these three; Nettling Imp, Royal Assassin, and Icy Manipulator?
Worldgorger Dragon in the graveyard and any reanimate spell? Doesn't that automatically win, so they had to ban the Dragon?
During my first 3-4 years of competitive magic I seen these and they will always stand out in my mind:

Think this is what the Original question was asking
Second Sunrise egg deck that went 15-1 in a modern Pro Tour. in Dragon's Maze or Ravnica, I forgot which.
It was probably Ravnica. Second Sunrise is banned now.
This video was posted in 2010...
How do i submit one of these questions?

Agreed. Metal worker into staff of domination in an artifact deck = I play my entire deck.
my favorite combo: Omniscience and Enter the Infinite. Have fun :)
what about channel+fireball?
This video is before the time of this combo, but restoration angle tragtusk

its really wierd but it seems a lot of in a lot of interview video chapin is in he is spreading his legs towards the camera xD

I love combos that are hard to explain and use :)
Entomb + Debtor's Knell
Everyone loves free creatures.
What about Polymorph?
Pat seems stoned, but I've never met him so maybe he's just super laid back.
@O K my stoner friends can be weird sometimes, ngl. Lols
Intruder Alarm?
Chapin looked like Owen Wilson back in the day.
@Gregandthensome Cos' it was awesome.

I agree with Humphrey.
what abouuuuuut....Sylvan Library and Abundance?? Draw 3 cards each turn without paying life, and choose land or non-land for each one! I think It's awesome.

Good times, Arid Mesa $6.00...
Dark ritual, entomb, put any creature in ur deck into ur graveyard the with the 2 mana in ur mana pool from ritual u play exhume my fav black combo of all time for gettin any creature in ur deck first turn
So...intruder alarm? I can think of at least 10 combos simply off the top of my head that it creates. Not the best, but certainly has quantity.
Vampire Hexmage/Dark Depths.
#1 combo is Time Walk and Fork
Pandemonium + Saproiling Burst!
#2 is Balance and The Rack
