More countdown pedestrian signals in Brockton

  • Here's something I had for a bit that I haven't uploaded yet. In early 2014, they redid the intersection of Belmont St. and Manley St. in Brockton, and as a result it became the second intersection in my hometown to get countdown pedestrian signals! But unlike the one on Main and Plain St., this one is set up in kind of an unusual manner. These are replacing old incandescent dual 12" square signals that had the words "WALK" and "DONT WALK."
What is unusual is how on each corner that has a signal (there are three of them, since there are two crosswalks at this intersection), they're different kinds! One corner does not even have countdown timers; simply single 12" Dialight incandescent-look LED hand/man units. But the intersection is still a work-in-progress, so they might add timers to them. One of the two countdown signal units here is a Leotek uniform-look signal, and the other is a slightly older model from the early 2000s that has outlined symbols; I'm guessing it might be a Tassimco unit, except it's all LED (instead of having a fiber-optic walk symbol like their older ones did) and it also shows "0" at the end of the countdown. I am kind of surprised they used one of those, as the outlined symbols are no longer permitted on new installations (they used to do that to save energy on the LEDs.)
Both countdown signals are programmed so they only count down when the hand flashes, not surprisingly.
There are also a few more intersections in Brockton getting countdown pedestrian signals as I post this. They're really starting to appear more around the city!
UPDATE: The signal devices seen in this video have all been replaced. They now all have McCain 16" housings with GE GT1 countdown units that run for a much longer pedestrian cycle than shown here, and they also have Campbell Company ASPS vibrating/talking pushbuttons for the visually-impaired.

I like the crates on the rectangular ones but my faves are the square ones

Way to troll traffic by hitting the button and causing the light to change.

Well, turning on red is permitted here, so lots of people just do that by the time the hand is flashing.
