Seems like these Talking Crosswalks in NYC just troll you, that's all. They don't make the walk signal come any quicker at all.

This works really well in Germany (and probably other European countries), basically you press a button and almost immediately light goes red for cars and green for you, and you're able to cross the street

In Poland instead of these wait thingies we got a slow ding (like on this video before you press the button) when the light is red, when it turns green it becomes consistent dinging and when it starts flashing (about to turn red again) it goes 2x faster again. There are some intersections where the light turns green almost immediately but they're not that common yet.
My town has a bunch of these. Every time I would come up to one of these buttons, I would keep spamming the button endlessly. I would do it for every subsequent button as well. I actually have two videos of the ones in my town on my channel.

I did this all the time with the audible crosswalks in Maryland
they don't make the walk sign come sooner, they're actually for the disabled, specifically blind people since they can't see the visual walk signals.
