To solve the mystery, the four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years. Bodies is a time-travel murder mystery limited series on Netflix. Bodies is the kind of show that’s entertaining while you watch, but falls apart when you think about it afterwards (even for a fictional tale.)

1 : Why did Defoe's body appear in four different timelines while Hassan and Elias only appeared in one timeline when using the throat?
2 : From where was the material sourced to construct the bomb?
3 : If Elias needed to travel back in time to become Harker and subsequently "create" himself as Elias, then who initiated the existence of Elias who traveled back to become Harker?
4 : What caused Elias to vanish? Didn't he journey back in time to 2053 to assume the identity of Harker and fabricate a bomb? Thus, there should be a version of him existing until 2053 without a bomb being crafted and lives being lost.
5 : What significance lies behind the tattoo?
6 : Why did future Hassan anticipate disbelief from her present self, despite the present Hassan being fully aware of the surreal circumstances?
7 : For what purpose does Harker preserve Defoe's body in a tank?
8 : What necessitated Polly to kill Iris?
9 : Why did Said choose to end his own life?
10 : What's the rationale behind Hassan discovering the body? Wouldn't it be simpler for Harker to utilize the recordings to manipulate Elias into killing everyone?
11 : Why not opt to return to Sarah's apartment and inform her that you're from the future, warning her that if she doesn't embrace Elias, he will ultimately cause harm to everyone?

I think i know the answer for number 3 and 5, but am not sure.
For number 3 its not really an answer, but this is an example of a bootstrap paradox, where a circumstance in the future travels back and enables its own exsistance - it never exsisted, but also always exsisted. It has no origin because it was always there.
For number 5, after we see the throat in action, a scene shows the throat shining in the same shape as the tatoo. Makes me think that if you are to pass trough the throat, you get the tatoo on your wrist.
(I havent watched the video yet so im not sure if these next questions/statements have been answered/explained):
The series creates a specific rule of time travel troughout most of its story. But in the end, it switches its rules again in order to change the past and make a cliché happy ending.
This creates a paradox - if they changed the past, the bomb didnt go off, harker didnt get to power, and he didnt time travel back. Wich means that there is no reason for anyone to be sent back in time, to prevent the past, so the bomb did in fact go off as nobody was there to stop it. It's either this or nothing in the series actually happened and we were just watching a made-up story of an alternative reality the whole time.
The final shots of the detectives make me think that they still remember the time loop - how if nothing ever happened?
If Harker became such an important part of society, him not exsisting in the past would probably cause many more aftereffects than just the bomb not going off. How is the world exactly the same (except for the bomb)?

Bodies is about as good as anything there is in the time travel sub-genre of science-fiction. If you liked shows such as Dark or The Devil's Hour, or loved Predestination or any of the smarter time travel stories around then you'll be very happy with this surprising gem. It's tense, atmospheric, genuinely original and wholly unpredictable.
This series is the exquisitely crafted intersection of all of them. It weaves together the lived and experiences of 4 people, scattered across time in London. Each time period is crafted, from costumes to music, with care and precision. It's both hopeful and tragic, and so compelling

    • @just.someHuman
      @just.someHuman Před 2 měsíci +1

While I agree that the series is very well done and beautifully crafted, in my opinion they sort of messed up on the time travel part of it.
While most of the series sets up a rule of how time travel works in this universe, the finale destroys this rule in order to achieve a happy ending.
The smarter movies you mentioned make one rule and stick to it - predestination is all about us viewing a (wo)man going around a already determined path. Travelling back in time does not change the future, as that was what always happened and was supposed to happen.
Bodies sets up the same rule, only to break it in the finale by saying "well, actually you can change the past. So this all didnt happen, actually." And creates a time paradox of itself (which in my opinion is a dissappointing and meaningless ending). What they could have at least done is show the universe malfunction because of the time paradox that it made, but nothing happens. Time goes on, with very little changed - the only butterfly effect seen is the bomb not exploding.
It is a great series - only looking from the viewpoint of the storytelling. Trying to think too much about it ruins the series in my opinion.

‘Dark’ is great, but just because both shows share elements of alternative time travel (and the inciting incidents share similar motivation) it’s hard to compare one to the other. ‘Dark’ is longer after all, so tells a more complex story. ‘Bodies’ is more concise and richer in terms of set design.
I like time travel stories, and I recommended ‘Dark’ to people who wouldn’t have watched it before but are now intrigued because they liked ‘Bodies’.

Main Time Traveller Mannix is the great grandfather of himself but I am just wondering whether he would have been born except for the invention of the Time Machine - I mean wouldn't he have had initially another paternal grandfather or is he a human who can only exist on the premise that Time travel is real. Great interweaving the story but I feel the 1941 story got a little repeated out of sequence and the main detective of 1941 should have been hung before police or in a courtyard and not before the Rabbi

Mainly filmed in *Bradford* (and Yorkshire in general) the world's first *UNESCO City of Film* and *UK City of Culture* although you wouldn't know that from the teaser or the trailer, which only showed 2 clips roughly a second long each from the *Main Entrance Hall* of *Bradford City Hall* where I'm stood in my profile picture. *Bradford City Hall* was used for 7 different locations in *Peaky Blinders.*
I hadn't paid much attention to the images at 2:58 and 4:55 until now, however I now know for certain that is the *Sekhon Group Warehouse* on *Hick Street* in the heritage neighbourhood of *Little Germany, Bradford.* I knew it was being used as a production base, and as I suspected it was being used as a filming location too, specifically for the *Police Station,* which can be seen on *Google Maps* images from August 2022.
*Peaky Blinders* fans should recognise that warehouse as *Tommy's Factory Offices.*
The warehouse was also used in *The ABC Murders* as a theatre exterior and the Belgian flashback scenes, along with Jay's workshop in *Jay's Yorkshire Workshop.*
*Hick Street* (the entrance to the warehouse) and *Cater Street* (the back of the warehouse) are usually the main *Little Germany* streets used for filming, however *Burnett Street* which connects them both, seems to be the main street used for filming in this, along with *Vicar Lane which can be seen in the background of one one photo I've seen.
*Lister Mills* in *Manningham, Bradford* and *Salts Mill* in *Saltaire, Bradford* (which was also used in Peaky Blinders) are also used in the show.
*Bradford* is used for 2053 (although that's mainly *Leeds* obviously) and with 1890 for certain, and is possibly used for 1941 and 2023 too.

A lot of the historical street scenes were filmed in Hull, which seems to becoming a bit of a trend these days, (our 'old town' area can easily pass for 1890 and 1941 with very little changes!)

@@DaveBartlett I haven't seen it yet, as I'm too busy updating mainly Bradford (and Yorkshire) productions on IMDB on a daily basis, when I'm not getting distracted by related productions from elsewhere (mainly from the North East lately)....
But it was obvious from the amount of time they spent in Bradford and Hull, that Bradford and Hull are the main filming locations...
...But as usual Leeds get all the credit (when Liverpool and Manchester, both of which are 3 times smaller than Bradford by area, aren't involved).
Bradford is constantly being used for period dramas, however those same locations are occasionally used in modern day set productions too.
An article from The Yorkshire Post last week about 5 Yorkshire horror films (2 of which were filmed in Bradford), and the fact IMDB have recently made their website better in one sense, but worse in another, has finally forced me to do what I've been meaning to do for years, and that's...
Make a list of every single Bradford filmed production on IMDB, so that I can spot the productions where Bradford is missing from the locations easier, not to mention the 1000s which haven't been added yet (mainly single TV episodes, shorts and music videos).

Ok this contrived time travel show is so convoluted that even Ryan from Pitch Meeting would go WTF. How It Should Have Ended would be applying the ‘Grandfather Paradox' in the first episode, go back to 1900s kill Elias as he come out of the time portal. That stop him from having kid and manipulate his wife and killed the gay red head cop. Stop his lineage and creating a perpetual paradox. Kill the guy who created the Time Machine to prevent another temporal anomaly
Years of Star Trek prepared me for time travel bullshit

Im sorry but i watched 1 episode and just couldn't do it. The writing is bad, which leads to subpar acting, the editing gave me whiplash, and the cinematography is generic. All that makes me care less about whatever explanation im sure the show will get to about how this body shows up in all 4 timelines. Pales in comparison to Dark.

Was the homosexual business in the comics, or did the wokies at Netflix inject that to suit their agenda? It seemed completely unrelated to anything else in the plot, which makes me suspect the latter.

  • @bjarmstrong4855
    @bjarmstrong4855 Před 7 měsíci +1

This show was terribly written with more holes than a sieve.
The main plot makes zero sense. Why would the villain travel back in time to change the future when he's already living in the future that he created/wanted? The 'good guys' would be the ones who would want to go back in time to stop the villain creating an alternative future, which they finally do in the last 5 minutes of the show, although they only go back in time to 5 minutes before a nuclear catastrophe (give yourselves a bit more time guys... you can travel through time!)
The villains future unfolding takes a series of events needing to occur in order for it to happen, including hundreds of people being on board with his plans. How will he convince future generations to go along with his plans once he's dead? Using grammar phone records to convince people what to do (they'll definitely last 90+ years & everyone has a record player in 2021 😐)
Add to that some average acting & really bad casting & this series is a dud.
Saying Bodies a poor man's Dark, is giving the show too much credit

If you ask Sci-fi experts they will tell you "This show completely butchers time-travel 'science' ". They went with the less acceptable theory of "When you change the past, you change the future" where in actuality you most likely change the future of the specific timeline you've arrived in. The timeline you left will continue as it was, and nothing will change in it. When you jump back in time, you create another timeline, and as you continue to jump in time, you create infinite timelines. That's the more accepted theory of time travel.
If something bad happened in your past, by jumping back in time, say you're leaving a friend behind. That friend will just keep living as if nothing has changed, but you, by changing the past, are just preventing that specific future from happening in your new timeline.
This show also completely blatantly shoves disgusting agendas down viewers throats (Netflix, eh?).. I literally had to skip some scenes. To be clear, I don't mind with subtle and nuanced agenda shoving.. but this is overstepping a CLEAR red line.
For that, using your couch rating system, I'm only giving this show 2.5 couches.
