  • This is my Bodies Netflix Series Review, and it is incredible. Today I tell you my thoughts on this intense and thrilling SciFi on Netflix. This is my Spoiler Free Bodies Review and Reaction. Did you enjoy this thrilling series, based on a book, and what are your thoughts on the ending?
Four detectives. Four timelines. One body.
Based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, Bodies is a police procedural with a twist. When a body - the same body - is found on Longharvest Lane in London's East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate. As connections are drawn across the decades, the detectives soon discover their investigations are linked, and an enigmatic political leader - Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) - becomes increasingly central. Did he have a part to play in the murder? Or is something far more sinister at play? To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years.

1 : Why did Defoe's body appear in four different timelines while Hassan and Elias only appeared in one timeline when using the throat?
2 : From where was the material sourced to construct the bomb?
3 : If Elias needed to travel back in time to become Harker and subsequently "create" himself as Elias, then who initiated the existence of Elias who traveled back to become Harker?
4 : What caused Elias to vanish? Didn't he journey back in time to 2053 to assume the identity of Harker and fabricate a bomb? Thus, there should be a version of him existing until 2053 without a bomb being crafted and lives being lost.
5 : What significance lies behind the tattoo?
6 : Why did future Hassan anticipate disbelief from her present self, despite the present Hassan being fully aware of the surreal circumstances?
7 : For what purpose does Harker preserve Defoe's body in a tank?
8 : What necessitated Polly to kill Iris?
9 : Why did Said choose to end his own life?
10 : What's the rationale behind Hassan discovering the body? Wouldn't it be simpler for Harker to utilize the recordings to manipulate Elias into killing everyone?
11 : Why not opt to return to Sarah's apartment and inform her that you're from the future, warning her that if she doesn't embrace Elias, he will ultimately cause harm to everyone?

Bodies is about as good as anything there is in the time travel sub-genre of science-fiction. If you liked shows such as Dark or The Devil's Hour, or loved Predestination or any of the smarter time travel stories around then you'll be very happy with this surprising gem. It's tense, atmospheric, genuinely original and wholly unpredictable.
This series is the exquisitely crafted intersection of all of them. It weaves together the lived and experiences of 4 people, scattered across time in London. Each time period is crafted, from costumes to music, with care and precision. It's both hopeful and tragic, and so compelling

I really liked it you do have to watch it closely and really enjoy it not on your tablet or phone like I often do and am sure others do while watching. I actually like better than Dark sure Dark is still thought of as the number one time travel series of all time but I like this one.

Mainly filmed in *Bradford* (and Yorkshire in general) the world's first *UNESCO City of Film* and *UK City of Culture* although you wouldn't know that from the teaser or the trailer, which only showed 2 clips roughly a second long each from the *Main Entrance Hall* of *Bradford City Hall* where I'm stood in my profile picture. 7:31 is one of them, which you should recognise as it was used for multiple locations in *Peaky Blinders* among other productions.
*Bradford* is used for 2053 (although that's mainly *Leeds* obviously), and 1890 for certain, and possibly 1941 and 2023 too.
I don't know where you got these filming/production photos from but...
0:16 is clearly *Lister Mills* in *Bradford.* Filmed at the demolished and derelict bit of *Lister Mills* next to *Beamsley Road,* with the renovated apartments of *Lister Mills* in the background.
6:07 is clearly the mini heritage neighbourhood of *Little Germany* in *Bradford.* Them walking on *Burnett Street,* with *Vicar Lane* in the background, and the cameraman stood on *Hick Street* (which is the street mainly used for filming, along with *Cater Street,* both of which are on either side of *Tommy Shelby's* factory offices in Peaky Blinders).
The *Sekhon Group Warehouse* on *Hick Street* (as I suspected) was used as the *Police Station* in *Bodies,* as shown by the August 2022 images on *Google Street View* and some photos I've seen since. It was also *Tommy's Factory Offices* in *Peaky Blinders.*
1:28 *John Malkovich* filmed *The ABC Murders* all over *Bradford.* Roughly 60% of *The ABC Murders* was filmed in *Bradford* with around 40% of *The ABC Murders* filmed in *Leeds.* The previous mentioned warehouse was used for the *Belgian Flashback* scenes, and the exterior of a *Theatre* in *The ABC Murders.*

@@stevegoodson9022 Countless productions are filmed here constantly.
      Bodies filmed in:
      Salts Mill.
      Lister Mills.
      Bradford City Hall.
Burnett Street, Vicar Lane, Hick Street etc in Little Germany.
And the secretive Sekhon Group Warehouse on Hick Street, which has been used in Jay's Yorkshire Workshop, The ABC Murders, and Peaky Blinders.
I haven't seen Bodies yet, so there might be others which haven't been revealed, and if there are, I will most likely spot them.
The Sekhon Group claim other productions have filmed inside their warehouse, however I've seen those productions, and they were only filmed outside on Hick Street and/or Cater Street. However there is one other production which filmed inside that I can't remember, which I'm willing to bet was Emmerdale, around 2016.
It's me who adds most of the cast, crew, companies etc to productions, along with productions themselves (mainly shorts) to IMDB, although I keep most of the locations to myself for a future blog/website. I try to focus on the 17,000+ Yorkshire productions, but's impossible as I'm constantly getting side tracked by other things I find which are incomplete or missing by the same cast/crew/companies.

@@stevegoodson9022 At least 54 Bradford filmed productions have been released since January 2022, however that's not including the films or TV shows I haven't added Bradford to yet, haven't been released yet like Six Triple Eight, or the countless shorts and music videos which aren't even on IMDB yet.
In the last few months alone, I must have seen at least 20 Bradford filmed music videos, not to mention 1000s over the last 15 years especially. The recent ones are mainly from people like Lunar C, Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Marky B, YA, MC Innes, MC Rayner, MC Chippy, Haze Da Martian, Kingz365, Blazer Boccle, S Dog, Yin Yang Boyz etc and even honorary Bradfordians like the Leeds rappers Spot and KAV.

I really enjoyed this series, I RARELY say that about a Netflix show, but it also really helps that it's British--ie good writing. The ending in the taxi with Maplewood driving was unfortunately American-style writing cheesiness but the only really Americana so I can overlook. With convoluted stories like this you have to nail the details.; so there are few things I still don't understand and hoping someone out there can answer because maybe I just missed them:
    1. Why the tattoo on the writs after travelling through the Throat?
    2. If you go backwards AND forwards travelling through the Throat, why didn't a version of Elias get throw ino the future when he stepped into it in 2053?
    3. Why was there no exit wound for Gabriel's bullet in the head?
    4. To stop Elias in 2053 Gabriel was forced to send Elias through the Throat... why didn't Gabriel just send him soemplace else, like 3000 AD or something?
    5. Why did Hasan run into herself in the last episode? Did she go through the Throat?
If anyone knows the answers to any of these, would love to hear.

    • @thrussythreethousand
      @thrussythreethousand Před 7 měsíci +3

I only have answers for 3 and 5, but here they are…
3: we’re shown that nothing but the person stepping through the throat makes it through to the other side. Seems only “organic matter” makes it. Gabriel is shot whilst he’s passing through the throat, so I imagine the bullet was destroyed before it had the opportunity to create an exit wound - the fact he is briefly alive when passing through also shows the bullet evidently didn’t go far enough to kill him instantly.
5: Hasan’s older self is shown travelling through the throat (a very brief scene where she’s shown “floating” against a crimson background). Though I am uncertain why she needed to do this, considering her younger self theoretically could have seen Whiteman’s engraving and found the hidden package.

Maybe she met Defoe again in 2053 and went back to 2023 to do something, probably create the KYAL world because the last scene you can see a building with those initials and it would make sense because Maplewood obviously loved that world. There are way more serious questions that makes absolutely no sense.
1 : Why did Defoe's body appear in four different timelines while Hassan and Elias only appeared in one timeline when using the throat?

This had great potential but falls horribly short. The show never explains why Mannix went back to 1890 in the first place ( I have my theory) also if Defoe goes into the throat and gets put into 4 timelines why wasn't Mannix as well? He only seemed to went to 1890. Also where did Maplewood come from in 2023? Too many inconsistencies and unexplained things.

    • @runninginsept
      @runninginsept Před 7 měsíci +5

I agree, the storytelling could have been better. To me, there had to be a genesis for Mannix, a sort of inception in his mind of when, how and WHY he created this idea in the first place. They kept emphasising his need to be loved. OK, but why? Wtf happened to him?! Villain's motivation was weak. I would have preferred a more dramatic unravelling as well, but I was happy enough that all the detectives sort of had their individual happy endings. I thought the series was an ok 6.5-7 of 10.

@@runninginsept fully agree with you. A little more time spent with Defoe explaining why his body kept going to all the time lines and we don't see it happening with Mannix or Hassan. Even if it was off screen it still didn't line up with the plot. We needed to know why Mannix became Mannix and not the looped timeline version.

These are not at all inconsistencies and I doubt the writers overlooked this considering they wrote this whole complex script anyways😅 I think the other Mannix’s and Maplewoods are perhaps hinted at in the very end scene where a KYAL hologram is on a building despite them thinking they changed the timeline.

Great show. I like the drama even though whenever you have Time Travel, there are always plot holes. I am okay with it. I like the show for the acting and drama. I like Hillinghead storyline the most. I also think Hillinghead has the worst ending because not falling in love (again) and hiding his true sexuality is kind of sad. The other 2 got the endings they want. I wish they could create a more elaborated ending for all 4 after the event has changed. Like Hillinghead came out of the closet or Whiteman adopted a kid, etc. The everything "reset" ending is good if they plan for Season 2 but I prefer a more definitive ending.

Defoe explains this when he's talking to Maplewood about how he was wrong about free will, and everything is predestined. He said his PhD thesis was about free will and then he realised he was totally wrong, so I guess he wrote his PhD before meeting Chapel Perilous and learning about the closed loop of Elias's existence which requires predeterminism to exist. I thought that bit of dialogue was very clever, because it was only later in the show that I appreciated its significance to the plot.

What incredible badly and so wooden acting this first episode has, it stood out like a mile and was like watching a badly put together CZcams video made by amateurs. Worse and now watching any films or TV which is of a historical nature, I am thinking about 'when' will it happen and sure enough we saw a black female soldier walking down the street and then we even had two mobile wheel chair people in in the shopping centre. As expected the lead was a female and a Muslim with the obvious party for a father where even more Muslims could be included in the episode. Then we have the glaringly 'gay' suppressed police officer being seduced by a very body perfect gay photographer trying to seduce him, who never would have dressed like that back then. Of course we ha had to have the very fascist right-wing 'white; Jew hater of a Jewish Sgt, which would have been very unlikely in those times called Whiteman. I was surprised they did not have the Muslim female lead having a lesbian relationship with the female forensic officer or maybe that is to come.
One we had stories that told a story now ALL TV and films are just political correct vehicles to promote diversity, multi-cultural, racism, LGBT etc agendas, the story has now become second place. It is on par with the blatantly propaganda on the Nazis and the Red Guard films made to indoctrinate their citizens,
What is so ironic, that I now have a 64" TV screen and sound which is on par with a cinema experience which can show films and TV series in mind blowing cinema quality, which instead of enjoying, becoming immerse and totally involved in what I am watching, I spend most of my times, tutting, swearing and shaking my head at the indoctrinating crap the media lovies now impose on the vast majority of people who DON'T want it.
So another TV series, i won;t watch now, mind you early nights and going back to reading good book with proper story lines is going to be better than watching this Woke CRAP and others like it.
