    I may have this problem, but another channel Peppermint mentioned it could be the tensioner not adjusted according to the ambient temperature when installed. But this could something I can look at too.

    Parallax Error can be compensated for with the camera as you show or with a small inspection mirror.
    To use the mirror place the mirror along a straight edge of the housing where you can see the Timing Notch reflected.
    Line yourself up so the Notch and the Reflected Notch are directly in line with each other. You have now cancelled the Parallax Error.

    I did a timing chain on my 2003 Camry and had the vibration too. Come to find out the new crankshaft seal I put on the timing cover was 1mm off, it wasn't flush. I can see the harmonic balancer whopple slightly at idle. Took the balance r off, tapped the seal flush, and the vibration went away.

    I had my 95 Civic timing belt done professionally but now at low RPM there is a winding noise. Hope you can chime in on what the cause is.

    Thank you for the good overview. Can you please clarify, how can a timing belt be off by half a tooth? If the pulleys fit into the tooth, grooves, wouldn’t the pulley always be seated at a whole tooth increment?

    You mentioned a noise from the engine. What iif it's a whining sound. Is it belt to tight / tensioner or off a tooth or both ?

    How hard is it to purchase a oem belt. Paint mark the old belt and all gears before removing. Count the cogs between paint marks and put paint marks on new belt same amount of teeth apart as old removed belt then install new belt lining up your paint marks on belt with ones you put on the gears. Obviously doesn't work if your belt broke but then if that happened then you have bigger issues anyways.

    My car definitely has interference engine and I recently got timing belt done. Even though its diesel idle was smooth as butter, I could put coffee cup on top of the engine without any spillage, now after timing belt job engine shakes almost violently. Starts, runs and accelerates normally. Any ideas?

    I've done many engine swaps because of interference engines. That's why I drive older trucks. Why would you want an engine that bends valves and cracks pistons because of timing issues. They almost never trigger a check engine light, just have a timing event and end up costing thousands of dollars to fix. I've seen it happen many times under 40000 miles on various makes so it is not a high mileage thing. Just bad engine designs if you ask me.

    "de-advanced" is not a word lol. Just say the timing is off if you won't say the "r" word

  • @pepeshopping
    @pepeshopping Před rokem +1

    Prove that half a tooth would destroy an interference engine!
    You do know that these engines have VARIABLE timing and that means they can advance or retard the valves a GOOD bit?
    The correct statement, if you were actually an engineer would be: Half a tooth error in the timing system CAN create catastrophic results, but it depends on the design of engine and timing system!
