  • Welcome! In this video I do my first drain and fill on the A6 transmission in my 2016 Kia Cadenza SXL. This Kia uses the A6 transmission that Kia developed, meaning the steps in this video should apply for almost any Kia/Hyundai built since 2010! Possibly some models of Genesis as well, though I haven't confirmed that. Please enjoy and leave your comments below!

    you've got a lot of faith in those plastic ramps... hope you're still alive there buddy. Thanks for the videos on how to drain and fill Cadenza's! Will come in handy.

      They are the nicer ramps that are thicker and wider than normal, so no worries there. I'm glad my videos are able to help you.

      I have a 2017 Kia Cadenza Limited 32k miles. I had the alternator go out while driving and pulled over after the battery died. I had the alternator replaced. After my Kia refused to go over 20mph. It would not shift and would rev between 3-4 RPM. Once fully warmed up about 20-30mins it will go above 60 but rev between 3-4 RPM and not shift. I took it to a Kia dealership, and they said the trans is bad code P073300. On my way to the dealership, the smart cruise control wasn't working the service manager said it was because of the transmission needing replacement. I know there is a ton of electronic components that need a specific amount of voltage. I requested they replace the battery, just hoping that would be the issue. They replaced the battery, but the code still persist after the replacement of the battery. I drove the car back home and found the cruise control was working again. So, the service manager was wrong about that statement being related to the transmission. I want a second opinion from another shop. Also, I'm checking all forms of information. I'm super excited to see you made a video about the model a year older then mine. Dealership said 4500 for new trans and labor. I replaced and verified all tcu fuses are not blown. I am trying to do what I can by myself. Could you please give me your opinion on my situation?? Adversary?

      I'm glad it helped. The information in the video was floating around the Internet but not in a very digestible form, nor was it all in one place. I'm pretty proud of this particular video as there isn't much information on Cadenzas at all. A great car that no one knew about or bought.

      @@MazdaB3K where is the fluid coming out while you are filling it up

      @@cablerslacker1970 When you are filling the transmission with new fluid, nothing should come out initially with the car turned off. Once turned on, there is an inspection port with a plastic cover that is located on the driver's side of the engine bay on the transmission. Make sure you have enough fluid in the transmission to run the car before you turn the car back on. In the video I have the cover off and the fluid you see coming out is excess fluid from me putting too much back into the transmission.

    I changed my trans fluid yesterday. much simpler way if your transmission has no leaks. Measure accurately how much you drained, and put that much back in. I also trimmed a piece about the size of the clip on a ball point pen off the the plastic pan below the drain plug. Now no need to remove the pan. I got 4 quarts out of mine with front on ramps and rear on the floor.

      @MazdaB3K  Před 11 měsíci

      Four quarts sounds about right for a drain and fill. You are correct that if you can measure what comes out you can fill that amount and be good. However, if you don't have that means or if your system is low and you don't know it, using the check port is still what you want to do. In a well maintained transmission the method you mentioned does work just fine though.

      For starters, I'm not seeing a PO73300. I do see a PO733, which is a "Third Gear Incorrect Ratio" code. From what I am reading that can be caused by low trans fluid, dirty trans fluid or some of the shift solenoids not working. Since the claim is that you have damaged electronics from a failing alternator, I would lean towards the shift solenoids being damaged or whatever controls the shift solenoids being damaged. As you mentioned, this vehicle does have an independent Transmission Control Unit(TCU) which would be the one telling the solenoids to actuate for gear shifting. If the solenoids are damaged, or the TCU is damaged that would require removal of the transmission to have those parts serviced.

    I have Kia Cadenza (K7 2015) 3.0Lpi only. What transmission fluid should I use?

    • @MazdaB3K
      @MazdaB3K  Před rokem +1

      By LPI do you mean it runs on propane? Transmission wise the 2015 should be using the A6 family of transmissions, same as the 2016 in the video. So the fluid I called out for in the video should work for you. However, if you have your owner's manual, check there and see what you can find.

      Neat. I believe the change in fuel source shouldn't change the transmission. It should be a member of the A6 family, so the sp4 spec I call out in the video should work.

      @@MazdaB3K what about transmission fluid filter?

    • @MazdaB3K
      @MazdaB3K  Před rokem

      As I recall I didn't change the filter when I did the fluid drain and fill. I did some quick research for you and the filter is internal to the transmission and cannot be changed without opening the transmission. You can do it, but it's going to be much more work than just a drain and fill.
