    Although 14. Ba2 is technically a novelty here, it bears pointing out that the players then transposed to Suetin-Gligoric (1967) with 15. d5, so the first real "completely new game" point is black's 15...Nb8. Gligoric instead played 15...Na7 and got the win after 54 moves.

    Surprisingly at 7:51 Nf5 leads to a draw. Engine gives Qg5, after Kf8 plays Qf6, then Kg8, only now Nf5, which follows with a long, long line where white has a big advantage. It thinks the position is still holdable at 9:11, Rb7 loses the game for black, but en passant should be a draw with perfect defense.

  • @preparedsurvivalist2245

    Black's undoing was the undeveloped knight. After all the fireworks he has a knight for 3 pawns compensation, but the knight isn't centralized. He now needs 2 or 3 moves to get the knight into action, but thats 2 to 3 pawn pushes for white. And as we all know, passed pawns are deadly in the endgame.

      I was staring at the board there for a while before I figured out the response of ...Qc6, which looks like it forces white to either back off or trade the knight for the A-file rook.
      That's the best I can do. If I was white I'd accept that line (Nxa1, Qxa1), because all I can see for what that position for black's queen yields is an attack on the e4 pawn that I can defend... But unfortunately, I'm not Magnus Carlsen, so surely someone else can see a better way for Black to punish that position, which is why it wasn't played in the actual match.

    • @giannis8077
      @giannis8077 Před 2 lety

    7:33, I have been playing many Kh7-alike when defending, throughout the years. But this time I thought about ...f5, until I realized that the h6-pawn was falling right away...
    10:00, I guess I would play 1...Rh5!? 2.Rg6 _(2.Rxd7?! Rxd7 3.Rxd7 Rxg5+ 4.Kf3 Rxf6, draw?)_ 2...Kf7.

    What if erdös played Nd2 instead of f6 at the end there? Does that work or am I missing something? You’d be giving back the piece but seems like you’d actually end up in a more favorable endgame.

      Agreed. I would add that Nd7 is more accurate. Black's pawns are doubled, but the position would probably be equal. (I may be missing something, though.)

      I also was wondering about that line, Nd7, pawn push, take with knight, take with Q then Qd6. If white takes I like black's pawns in the center vs the h pawn for white.

    a bit confused. Kh7 apparently forces a draw accoring to the video but what if you chase the queen with both rooks, and eventually play Rc3 provoking Qxb2? Engine on the other hand says black queen should take the pawn on e4.. which leads to a queen sac after Rc4. and apparently black can still fight with a piece and a rook for a queen (but down a pawn..). Crazy line! wish it'd been developed a bit more.
