Firouzja is really something. He started to play chess at an older age then most of these GM's. Became GM in 2018 and now he is almost 2800 rated. Absolute madman.
wow i had not realized he only became gm in 2018
He was 2800 last year and then went on a losing streak so he dropped back.
Who would have thought Alireza would be playing board #1 in a French team event with MVL also playing? What a meteoric rise for this young man!
two years ago when I was watching him playing rapid and blitz I was wondering why he was not yet so high in classical rating.
I forgot that he was 16 that time.
can't wait to see the future Candidate Tournament with him. I hope Carlsen will win the championship just to have the perfect match.
@@Dr.Sortospino magnus vs alireza would be a sweet match. tho so far magnus has dominated alireza in classical. hopefully alireza's continued improvements will make him competitive vs magnus
@@gobbedy there are 10 years of difference =) alireza reached his peak right now
@@Dr.Sortospino I really hope he doesn't hit a plateau. At the rate he's improving right now it looks like he could be 2850+ in his early to mid 20s. People said the same thing about Wei Yi though, and then he just stayed at 2730 forever, so you never really know
Disagree. Yes, you can know. Or so *I* think. What one quality sparkles for every true talent in chess? We can say preparation... precision... knowledge... memory... stamina... etc. But when those things all seem present, I have seen the players that transcend the others ulrimately exhibit what we call creativity, that ability to find ideas that remain unseen for the most part by others. Alireza has that. He will someday challenge Magnus, if his emotions don't get the better of him. But will he supplant him? THAT is not so easily known.
A instructive lesson by Alireza on how to use two knights against two bishops. Brilliantly analyzed by Agadmator. Alireza makes it look easy

@@ChocolateMilk.. shut up
Those lines with Alireza's centralized knight are hard to believe. Its perfectly placed to shift around and threaten check and forks and defend key pieces strategically. Had anything been even slightly different there white could've held. Just too good.
Alireza is 14 wins, 1 loss, and 5 draws in his last 20 classical games. Amazing stuff
You should've seen Carlsen's streak. He had a streak of 125 games without any loss.
@@84y87 which doesnt make this achievment any lower
@@84y87 oh yeah that was amazing
@@michagwiazdowski2936 who said it makes it lower? He is just telling this man/woman about another extraodinary streak
@@84y87 the difference is magnus had 42 wins and 83 draws. He didn't have Ali's amazing win rate. settling for draws extended the streak, meanwhile Ali is always fighting for the win. That is the difference.
Amazing to see knights completly overpower bishops like that. Uno reverse card to all those "deadly bishop pairs"
These games are so satisfying. I still remember a fabi game where the knights similarly outplayed the bishops.
Perhaps the reason is something like, Bishops are good if their range matters, and a bishop pair is good if you're attacking. In this case, neither was the case; Alireza just always had the initiative and the Bishops never got to do anything but defend. In that role they don't seem very strong, they only really cover a few relevant squares.
I mean Black was just up 2 pawns (doubled but still) , that's what won the game for black not the2 knights vs 2 bishops.
Because the opponent is a lesser light, if itg Garry kasparov alireza will be dead meat lol
Yes. And this is in a fairly open position too. The key was Alireza's advanced pawn. There was nothing for Sargissian to do except defend key squares.
What is so amazing about the game is not the knights vs pishops but how gabriel played really good finding hard moves to be found and still didn't survived this game ...
“If you ever read a book on endgames, king activity is number one” Alireza’s king didn’t move the entire game and still shattered his opponent.
Sometimes there are better moves that king's activity can wait.
Good catch. Like Tony always says, "king activity is number one, except when it's not.
@@keironrodriguez3736 it’s always a challenge seeing these moves (for me) 🤦♂️
Thats because the game was finished in the middlegame: being two pawns down with 6 pieces still on the board is enough to convert
Chess players are there to challenge the theories of chess now and then, otherwise playing by the book will just be like watching Alphazero vs Stockfish
Firouzja - Carlsen is gonna be an epic battle in the future!!
Or we will just witness a swift change of guard.
Or Firouzja-Nepo
@@mercronniel3122 i love nepo i think he has some chances but then again we need to remember who magnus is (the goat )
Or, or, or. Or if you ask Alireza, he would say there's a lot of matches to be played
Well, Firouja like Anish hasn't been impressive while playing with top 10 in the world so winning candidates is still 1/8 for me.
Me after every move in this game: "is that a move?"
Hey nice name!
@@arashkamangir331 chokhlesim
Ee cheghad irani injast😂
As I watch, I can’t help but pretend I’m participating in the game.
When Alireza gave-away his last bishop, I hollered _Nooooo!_ at the screen . . . as if I were a better player than him.
Someone also should stop Agadmator as he became the legend in covering chess games, he knows exactly when to and where to focus in game, and also the very smooth coverage is just incredible stuff !
NOOOOOO
Agree
Vladimir Kramnik once said that he feels that against two bishops, it's almost always better to have two knights instead of the knight bishop combo, since knights will coordinate better and they thrive under completely different conditions to bishops which you can aim to create, thus rendering opponents bishops useless. Of course, I assume he too would take two bishops in equal positions, or two pawns up with any minor piece combo.
It’s incredible how alireza finds tactical defenses effortlessly
It was classical time control, meaning he was thinking for hours - Wouldn't call it "effortlessly".
It really is amazing that he can see these positions ahead of time. My head spins when I pause the video and try to figure out the next move.
@@vladi1Z he's not the only one who gets to think for "hours", his opponents has the same time. So yes, he does it "effortlessly" compared to his opponent.
@@moiz9722 What does his opponents have to do with the fact that he puts lots of effort for those moves? Lmao.
Start commenting when you are sober dude.
"Effortlessly" is just an illusion, infact it takes a lot of effort (in any time format). However, brilliant players make it look "effortless".
When Ding is at his best, Idk who's stronger, but both of them remember Fischer's style in my POV. Firouzja is displaying that with higher consistency tough.
when caruana at his best he beats both , am alireza fan but still caruana beats him for now
@@mahmodabdalgafer8994 Its a shame Caruana isn't a world champion till now... Far too good not to get at least one in his career
Ding at his best is a monster, definitely better than alireza
I'm still hoping he'll come back someday
@@andromeda7763 I think caruana would have beaten magnus if the championship didnt involve r+b. Magnus was too afraid to play for a win in the classical section and just stomped him in the faster time formats as we all know. Honestly for that reason I consider Hikaru and Caruana relatively equal in strength, Hikaru is like number 2 at rapid and blitz and Caruana is like 2 at classic
Ok now it has actually become a alireza saga!!
2 years ago actually, in world rapid and blitz championship... no one doubted that kid was going very very far
this is Tal worthy chess, why not move on to Alireza
He beats 2600+ GMs so easily that you think he plays against your local club opponents.
Agadmator: And theres only one left but that will require some time.

About time you showed this!!!
"It's an incredibly incredible game ".
QB8 is literally an engine move… if someone played that against me they are getting reported
I would have played it because I didn't see the problem with dropping a doubled pawn nor did I see the threat of the queen being close to the king. Of course, I did not see the continuation with Rb3, but just Qb8 itself can be found by an aggressive/tricky player. I'm sure if agad actually gave a pause the video moment there I could have, maybe.
@@Megan-ii4gf For me it wasn't necessarily about Qb8 but the continuation that followed. Sure, it took me about 5 seconds to spot it, but never in a million years would I have considered the sequence that followed it
@@Megan-ii4gf yeah haha, Qb8 was like the first move that came to mind, but I hadn't looked at the position enough so I didn't even know that the queen could take lmao. I feel like I maybe could've played that, but who knows.
After Alireza's unsuccessful game at the World Chess Cup, honestly I was a little shocked, what happened to him? Thank God that my doubts are over and he like Magnus begins to ascend to the chess Olympus.
It's really incredible how much firouzja improved in thé end game
Reminds me of the game between Ivanchuk and Garry kasparov where Ivanchuk gave up his bishop pair early on and literally cruched kasparov after!!!
Alireza's brilliancy: He knows Gabriel wants to play Qxg6, so he plays Qb8 in support of Rb3, which would attack white's dark-squared bishop on a3, and if Gabriel then takes the rook with Bxb3, then Alireza takes back with his queen, which now attacks white's dark-squared bishop on a3 and leaves the white queen on g6 hanging as black's f7 pawn is no longer pinned by white's bishop. This equals a free piece. So white DOESN'T take black's g6 pawn with the queen!
I understand this, if it's explained to me, but damn it's deep! These top players are perceiving and parrying threats that are more moves in than most people can understand.
Please don't stop Fischerouzja: we want the show to go on :-)
5:06 you can’t play queen takes bishop because the other bishop attacks the king and the queen can’t move away from the rook, Qxa3, bxf7+
Love this channel, always analysed brilliantly, shame I can never apply all that I have seen in my own matches
This is so much fun to witness. The future sagas will be incredible.
Firouzja about to become the youngest 2800 ever
how old is firouzja? carlsen did it at 18 years 11 months 2 days. Though it could be argued firouzja might have been 2800 already if not for the pandemic.
@@chadmarx7718 Plus, what we should not forget, that Alireza started playing chess much later than Magnus did, in the age of 9 !

it's been a long time since i watched my last agadmator's video. I've been busy with my schoolworks and im glad to be back. Glad to see an Alireza's game on my comeback.
Firouzja is a man on a mission . and the frightening thing is what more he would have achieved by now if not for the pandemic and he leaving his native country .
10:24 "But still, two pawns are two pawns. But the bishop pair, on the other hand, is the bishop pair."
Understandable, have a nice day.
Alireza with a knight in the endgame = Tricky bastards
Firouzja is not just tactics, he's a real threat. Reminds me of the young Gata Kamsky who had Kasparov and Karpov to overthrow. But now we are in the age of computers.
Firouzja can do it, if he wants it bad enough.
Firouzja is seriously treathening Magnus, if this goes on we might get a new world champion...
Even fully operational bishops were rendered helpless by a couple of dark knights. Great coverage, as always.
One of the best games I have ever seen. Brilliant
Thanks for the game and all the others!
Is there a sequenze of moves for withe from the start so that draw is the only option for black?

Bok! Super je kanal. Kako se zove šah (program) koji koristiš? Pozdrav
We are always told that knights defending each other are weak but in this game and many others they seem to do very well.
Beautiful.
The way firouzja is playing now feels like he is going to be at the very least 3 years above 2800 and constantly in the candidates (at the very least).
1 tempo in the endgame and it was all over, wow
This young guy is on a rampage!
This is legendary level game play
4:53, is Black really so much worse if they allow the bishop to capture the rook? Knight on F can take the past pawn and white trades one of their most active pieces for a rook - so 2 pawns (1 of which was past) and a very active bishop for a rook? It doesn't seem worth to me but I'm not great at chess so maybe someone can explain to me
My head hurts trying to calculate these positions
I heard a woman say the exact same thing “Somebody stop that man!” after snatching their handbag.
little did she know the file was open for him to advance luckly there was a sniper covering the diagonal
Incredibly incredible games are my absolute favourite
Ding Liren is always number 2 but we hardly hear from him….
Not playing recently in many tournaments, not sure why.
Yeah, I guess not playing don't affect the ratings
Agad is simply covering the Alireza Saga in real time
Well, that's really impressive
When u say "sorry about that", what does actually happen?? I'm very curious 😂
hahahah , his speakers
Interdimensional portal
Fischer: I love the bishop pair
Firouzja: Hold my knights my legend
Perfect demonstration of how when you are 2 pawns up against 2 bishops you can use the support points provided by the pawns to neutralize the bishops.
At 5:56 and a few moves earlier, actually the white black square bishop is defended. If the black queen captures it, she falls through the white square bishop checking the black king.
I know it's actually quite a way away (as he'd need 3 wins or 2 wins and 2 draws and no losses) but I would love to see him reach 2800. He's been playing so well in classical after the disappointment at the World Cup - for those angry he's stopped streaming or put blitz and bullet to the side in favour of classical tournaments, here is why. He'd be the youngest 2800 GM by quite a margin if he reached it.
Imagine Alireza Firouzja reading this video's title and mumbling, "How dare you!!"
Why mumble when you can say it like Greta Thunberg🤣
Well he does follow agadmator 😂
He's unstoppable.
"Two pawns is two pawns but two bishops is two bishops." After years of viewing, I can authoritatively say that it is such an Antonio thing to say!
this is the good stuff

Good fight from gabriel
Alireza is definitely Future champion of the world
We're witnessing history here
This gentleman is becoming formidable opponent for Carslen
Great game.
Anyone else feeling like waiting for christmas!? I mean Nepo vs Magnus...
Alireza is incredible at calculating precisely
reminds us of Magnus 2008-09
When used correctly two knights can take on two bishops any given day.
Alireza is the true general
"Two pawns are two pawns, but the bishop pair, on the other hand, is the bishop pair"

If the white king were one square closer in the last move, it would have trapped the knight. Excellent endgame!
If I didn't know how is playing black I would say it is younger magnus, The same solid but dynamic style, crazy endgames skills and precision. Alireza has changes a lot since the beginning of 2021, his middle games don't rely on tricks and tactics as much and his end games skills improved significantly, It would be interesting to see him battling it out with the top tier guys or if keeps his pace for another year it can be just a dupoloy battle between him and magnus.
Impressive game by Alireza.
