The kind of game that still make chess entertaining in a world of engines. Glad to see Nepo in Top shape.
Excellent comment, that’s in all the possible ways true.
I think there is a lot of computer prep in this game
Top shape...you are only as good as your opponent let's you be.
@@symba-uo3os Ilusion. When the game is winning in the opening with this players level its all preparation, NO MERITS.

Yes, perfect person to commentate this game
Pretty obvious that romantic chess is everyone’s true love over the engines
This line is actually covered in Jan's free e5 chessable course. After Bd6 instead of Be6, white has apparently has no strong discoveries and the best white can do is Nc3, after which Jan's mainline simplifies to a pawn up endgame for black. Surprised Alireza didn't know the theory, especially since he knew the beginning of the line.
2700 level theory is quite different from a Chessable course
@@SimsHacks Wdym??
@@SimsHacks the course is by Ian Nepomniachtchi himself lol
@@fritzzz1372 Ian is not the same as Jan.
It's made by German GM Jan Gustafsson.
@@SimsHacks ok, but still it's high level theory in a course by a GM.

Nepo is a genius. Playing coffeehouse chess and still at the top of the world hahahha crazy romantic player with strong intuitive talent
Nepo definitely playing to all of his strengths in this match. Great to see.

We need more players like Nepo among the elites. A pure chess player, intuitive, creative and a gentleman. Go Nepo!
@@billmy2251 It's best to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
It's as if the rerelease of this old game was to remind people that nepo is still a legend, even if he had a bad showing against magnus in the world championship.
Against Alireza who so many people are wondering if he'd challenge Magnus soon...maybe he will, but for now he's not ready
I mean against Magnus Carlsen losing doesn’t make you a bad player, even though Nepos blunders were pretty bad
@@TheMarc477 yes, being top 10 in a world of 8 billion people is such an extreme achievement, still, you know he was pretty devastated to lose. I mean, i'm an average player, i don't calculate very deep, even i saw the pawn push that trapped nepo's bishop in.
@@wsemenske this was an old game and alireza has hit the number 2 spot in the world since then, he's higher rated than nepo now and all the other challengers and he's only 18! He might not be ready to win, but he is already ready to challenge because there's no one stronger besides carlsen. So amazing.
Nepo has my respect. He played like a machine for the first 5 games and gave the champion one hell of a battle in the 6th game. He underperforned later yes, but that has little to do with his skills, and everything to do with the stress. He is still an elite player, one I didn't really like before, but after that I became a fan of his as well, being a big Magnus fan.
When Judith says all the pieces are on the center and ready to checkmate and it will not last 20 moves then it really is scary.
Holy shit. I've heard and read a bit about Judith Polgar, of course I knew her name from an early age but this is the first time I understand her brilliance, not simply relegated to chess.
Even I expected King's gambit from Nepo in the WC match in the 9th game after he was in minus 2 points. Nice game!
Yea man same!
Against Magnus in a classical game would be suicide
@@CarloRossi54523 It can be, but at least he would have died in standing. This kamikaze style would have given him better chances anyhow, than what opening he had chosen.
where was that two weeks ago king
I guess it's old video
Nepo still is rocking the man bun.
@@Tideman11 its an old one sept 9 2021
When a super GM plays King's gambit in a faster time control game, you know there is a massive preparation behind it and you are in deep shit
and they said alireza can challenge magnus for WCC title 🤣🤣🤣
Game 6 of the World cup really crushed nepo. People forget that until game 6 nepo had really good Chances to win against carlsen
Tru most people just consider the start “boring”
IMO Nepo didn't really have good chances. Yes, game 6 crushed him, but if all it took for him to tilt is to lose one game, then there is no way he wouldn't have tilted later from a loss. Psychologically he wasn't prepared, and psychology is a huge factor in chess.
Magnus is just a better player and has won 4 world championships consecutively. He has only ever lost 2 games out of all the World Championship games he has played in. He was definitely the favorite.
Ian's a fantastic player, but his chances of winning against Magnus were pretty slim: maybe 20% at the most.
@@hypercubemaster2729 right. But usually 1 point ahead is almost enough to win the WC. So nepo had to go for more risk in the other games and unfortunatly blunderd. Magnus knew with 1 point ahead that He just need to play for draws and not for wins
@@ttt2953 I agree.
@@hypercubemaster2729 i agree, although many people would say 20% DOES count as "good chances" against someone so dominant, and clearly not past their peak yet : ) of course Nepo didn't have 50% chances.
"He has only ever lost 2 games out of all the World Championship games he has played in"
true, although these WC formats have been too short (ironically, now that they extended it a little bit - from 12 to 14 games - for Nepo, it turned out there had been no need even for 12 games :) ).
eg. Carlsen's 2013 & 2014 matches against Anand are equivalent to just a single match back in the 80s/90s.
this being said, it's pretty clear at this point that Carlsen's successful challenger won't come from his own generation. they've had their shots, being at their peak (look like Karjakin faded after the WC match), and they've failed.
the next champion will be someone younger - maybe Firouzja (despite this particular video not making his prospects look very well, but he's been improving very fast).
The Old King's Gambit is a difficult exam for young players ... - who "skipped" primary school and immediately enrolled at the UNIVERSITY

@@DavidM-nn8du yeah, Nepo still got manbun
Awesome to see them having a laugh about it afterwards
Judith played the Bishop's gambit with 3.Bc4, also played by Bobby Fischer ( he said that if you have to play the KG, 3.Bc4 Is Much Better than the 3.Nf3 line)
Nf3 is certainly better than bc4, the reason fischer said that was because of the defense against Nf3 he invented. But the fischer defense isnt as good in this line:
e4 e5 f4 exf4 nf3 d6 *bc4*(this is what diverges from fischers main analysis) a6 a5 nf6 nc3 bg4 d4 and this is just very comfortable for white

@@andrebourgeois4701 that’s in classical not in blitz
Are you doubting Nepo's ability to grow inches of hair in a week, shame on you.

The KG lost favorability in high level chess but very tricky to play against for low level players bc no one plays it. Cool to see it used effectively against a player as insanely strong and talented as alireza
World number two
Short time control w no increment allowed it
Idt alireza is use to having to fight vs the KG anymore lol

I wish judit would commentate every game with sharp tactics or complex attacks. there is no one whose brilliance and genuine excitement comes rushing out like hers in these positions! Alireza also improved a lot since! Amazing how at certain ages GMs grow. It was after Alireza broke 2800 that other GMs made that known, I think. Ian earned it for sure in the Candidates.

Yeah, I played Judit as a child with the Kings' gambit (on the Magnus app) -- and she was brutal, even then! The magic of technology!
Wait a minute. You were a child playing on the Magnus app? Or was Judit the child? And you can play her in the Magnus app? I'm very confused by your comment.

I liked the way the board kept moving about on the screen, the fact that there were multiple commentators speaking with heavy accents, sometimes about a completely different game, that the commentators themselves were allowed to move the pieces on the board and the random delays between real moves and screen updates. What a boring video it would have been otherwise. Has anyone considered adding a few more commentators, perhaps speaking Flemish and Mandarin?
