Avalanche Erase a 4-0 Deficit to Beat the Penguins in OT. Team and MacKinnon Streaks Continue

  • This team is never out of it. Even trailing 4-0 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Colorado Avalanche found a way to get it done. Five straight goals, with the 5th coming in overtime by Jonathan Drouin lifted the Avs to their 9th straight win and they now have the outright lead in the division.
Speaking of Drouin, he has been one of the hottest players on the team recently. Is he playing his way out of Colorado, or will he sign a new deal for maybe a little less to stay in what clearly is a good situation for him?

Got to go to the game in person. After that first Avs goal, the whole crowd knew the Penguins were done. A pissed off Nate is an amazing thing to see in person. When Nate got his first point, the crowd went absolutely mental. The fans want him to beat Gretzky so bad! 😂 Also so confused how the refs never called penalties every time a Penguin held an Avs player down on the ice. Never seen so many players laying on top of other players and nothing happening. The winning end game hug/huddle was so wholesome and kinda a tear jerker. You could really tell the whole team felt that win. Nothing like an in person Avs game!

I'll be honest, when they were down 4-0 my thoughts were just "Okay, lets just get a point for Nate so that the streak can continue, and we can just move on to the next game." It wasn't until we scored 2 at the end of the second that I was like "Okay, we can still win this."

However they win is good with me, but I just worry that beyond a 1-2 goal deficit, comebacks may be mentally and physically taxing after a while. Plus, goals are at a premium in the playoffs, so it's just a matter of time before our luck runs out.

What an awful first period from literally the whole team, can’t really single any one player out cause everyone was bad, but the boys picked it up in the last 10 minutes of the second period and never looked back from there! The slow starts could bite us bad and eventually will. Could arguably be a big reason for some of our losses. I thought it was going to bite the team big here down 4-0. The team woke up at 2-0, but couldn't cash in. They could have easily sailed it in and avoided injury, but that comeback was impressive. I'd rather stop giving up the early chances every game.

My opinion on how they should play in playoffs is that they should bury the teams they can when they can. I am however very concerned that the team IS in the habit throughout the entire season of not playing 60 min. It’s more than a trend it’s happened the entire season. I get it you guys are pumped about the win but let's be actually honest here, we all know that come from behind wins are not sustainable throughout the course of the playoffs. You honestly think that if the Avs go up against Ottienger, or Helybuck, or Saros, that they're going to get away with not starting games on time and getting into a two or three goal deficit? They might get away with that once. Maybe even twice. But there's no way they win the first round let alone the cup if they don't learn to start games on time.
