- Not many people expected this. The Colorado Avalanche beat the Winnipeg Jets in their first round series in five games, winning four in a row after dropping game one. In a series many thought was a dead ringer for seven games, the Avalanche played almost perfect hockey in all aspects of the game. Now they get some rest and await their round two opponent between the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights.

My favorite thing about this game was when the crowd mockingly cheered for Georgie after a puck rolled down the ice on net and he scooped it aside, then trenin scored 30 seconds later and gave the crowd the kadri “let me hear you now” celebration, felt like poetic justice

I think they needed to worry about their own goalie more than ours in this series
It has also been brought to my attention that jets fans were chanting “don’t get up” when parise took that weird hit in the sequence before that goal, so they deserved that goal/celly combo even more!
Impressive win. 5 games to take out a very formidable Jets team that was poised to make a deep playoff run, especially after last years defeat. This Jets team is far better than last year's, and Col took them in 5. Most analysts would've assumed that the Jets would have won this in 5. But Col really notched it up a few gears. This team is still without a top line threat in Drouin. What an impressive series win.
The Avs might be sneaky good
Why would most analysts assume jets would have won in 5? Colorado were a favorite this series even though jets had home ice. Some of y'all just be talking out of your ass
While I don't see the Jets as rivals now, I wasn't happy with how they played. When things would go south, they just started fights. However, I have more of an issue with Jets fans post series. Cheering and booing when Parise went down was not cool. After how Ball arena treated Vlad when he went down, was just disappointed with how the Jets treated that potential serious injury for Zach.
Knew that Mikko just needed to score that first goal before getting back on track. Overall, great games played by the Avs. Super proud to be an Avs fan. Glad that series is over, on to the next.

Only respect and good vibes to Vladdy. Gotta love that guy even though he was an Av for a short time. Hope he heals well and doesn't suffer like Matty Hustle #11 Calvert did🙏🏻
Just a clinic by the Boys. I loved how every time the Jets would score, we would answer right back, no panic on that bench. It was enjoyable each time we answered their push with a goal , the camera would show Bowness on the bench looking bewildered. 4th line 4th line 4th line WOW!! Great first round by the AVS rinse and repeat round 2!!!
It was a big flex win for sure
If the same team shows up for the next series as we saw in round 1. This is going to be an incredibly fun playoff run to watch. Win or lose, they’re playing phenomenal/ entertaining hockey
This has been surprising and very very fun
I love the analogy of Colton and wood being The bash Brothers. Lol! A perfect characterization of them in my opinion. While I get frustrated with their penalties, sometimes, they are fun to watch and good at what they do. I can only imagine how awesome that line would have been in the playoffs with O'Connor with them keeping that roaring twenties line alive.
I am truly so proud of Georgie for how good he stepped up because i definitely did not want to see him in our next after the 1st game. Ive been putting him down all year but i give praise when its due.
Did you criticize the horrid defense he had to deal with too?

You mentioned Toews briefly but he really deserves more credit than he gets. He's scoring at a point per game and he's +6 (equal best for the team) despite being a -3 in game 1 when he spent nearly 7 mins pair with Manson. He's easily overshadowed by Cale but he's one of my favs.
As for Hellebuyck he was certainly rather average and not playing his best, but most of those goals against weren't on him. The Jets have come a long way over the last year but were just not ready for the onslaught the Avs served up. Bednar talked about "scar tissue" and losing before you can win. They will learn from this, much as the Avs did after being demoralized by Vegas a few years ago. The Avs have the mental resilience that few teams have, which is their real advantage moving forward.
Let this series be a reminder that if someone on the team is struggling, the way forward is to believe in them and support them, not ridicule and insult them!!!
What they didn't have last year:
Wood/Colt, Duh/Tren, Walker, *Mittlestat, *Nich, the overall improvement of each individual, Georgie playing quite well. And...eventually, they'll get Drouin back. Land is undoubtedly working towards a comeback barring the Avs making a deep run.
All additions that have payed dividends
Miles Wood is the hockey version of Jordan Poole, within 5 seconds you can go from "this guys amazing!" To "What are you doing?!" Lol i like to call the 3rd line The Chaos Line, all 3 just go 100 mph and their only goal is make something happen, good or bad

This couldn’t be playing out more perfectly. Getting time to rest and heal up in between series while your next round opponent has at least two more games to beat each other up is gold. Especially after last night where both Parise and Cale took their lumps and guarantee other guys have some dings that will feel much better when the next series kicks off. Have to assume game one would be Monday at the earliest and I’m guessing Wed as I think that series is going to go to seven games.
PS…Bravo Georgiev 👏 After all the hate following game one, just a hell of a bounce back the rest of the series and my sincere apologies for being one of the haters.
Before the series started, I had it being 4-1, but had NO IDEA which team would win.

I will eat my words against my home team. I had them losing in 5. Jets seemed so dialed towards the end of the season. Just a ridiculous defense that was eating us alive on turnovers. Avalanche simply are an unrelenting offensive power. Makar noticeably is showing another piece of his game, its truly a spectacle to see. Our lower lines are doing their jobs well including Parise.
Great win and pretty dominant series from our team. I had them winning in 6 IF they could flip that switch from the declining play towards the end of the season.
I wish Woody hadn't had taken that silly penalty nowhere near a danger area to interrupt the momentum from Trenin's goal (love his role on this team. Hope he can find a way to keep him), but other than that, I think we responded well.
I was thinking (and honestly worried) that this would be one of the more physical teams they'd face and they were not only up to the challenge, they exceeded them in physicality.
Very happy to see a Moose sighting, goals-wise.
cant help but think ahead to a heathy aves team including drouin, landeskog, LOC, not to mention the possibility of picking up a solid G1. This team bouta be nuts.

Just about every single player has elevated to where they need to be. Teams locked in, ready to go, huge test ahead with either Dallas or Vegas, let’s gooo!! Manson is my stand out player of the series. I thought he had a dreadful reg season and while he certainly made some questionable plays this series, he was all over the ice. Physical, aggressive, jumping in to the attack… without his presence we feel short in the d depth. Playoff Manson is here, own goals and all 😂😂
Knowing the Jets would be extra chippy/nasty last night, was concerned Manson might "over-respond", and he stayed chillllllllll.
I don’t think the Avs had a “great game plan” against the jets. Yes I know the jets swept the Avs during the season but we are in playoff hockey. It’s not the same. Bedsy has talked about this. We didn’t changed our game plan, we just have a team that knows what it takes to win in the playoffs, they PLAYED TO THEIR identity, we saw it 22. We saw it in this series (yes obviously king George did a thing and that was huge) but outside of goaltending, we played to our identity and we were the better team, didn’t need to game plan, just play our identity

I am so proud of this team. They were performing so horribly down the stretch that it seemed like the team I'd thought could beat anyone if they tried, had totally disappeared. They're back. They took a lesson from game 1 and have done what we have been begging them to do all year - clamp down on defense. It has opened everything up. If they keep performing at this level on both sides of the ice, they can win it all with this group. Now we get to watch the Stars and Vegas beat each other up. Who y'all want for round 2? I am genuinely torn. I feel like they match up better with the Stars, but hey'll have home ice against Vegas, and it would be awesome to send Vegas packing. I guess it doesn't matter - either will be a fight, and either will be fun to watch.
It was nice of Mikko to finally make a guest appearance...

I mean yeah georgiev didnt do half bad. Really only let in 2. I don't count own goals as being the goalies fault, second one the jets deserve props for that one, and the third was a bit eh but given everything else he did i cant be to mad about it.
And sure enough they lightened up on mikko a bit and the moose got loose.
Plus i also don't see the jets as a "rival" but some of their fans though. Like i understand chirping and chanting "fourgiev" but "pull your goalie" in the same game imo was taking it a bit to far. And the team agreed and didnt let them score more then 2 after game 1 (not counting the own goal)

The officiating was fine/good this series. They missed a few calls, but that's normal and it went both ways so that evens out. For the part, they let them play and really only consistently called the egregious stuff. I'm perfectly fine with that.
why did the preds trade Trenin
Unrestricted free agent after this season making around $1.5 mil this seson I believe. Assume Preds felt they were not going to have space to sign him next season, and had a less expensive option lined up...
Georgiev proved all naysayers, including Kyle, wrong! I stood with him since he signed with the Avs because I saw with the Rangers what a good goalie he is, he showed it! With a better defense, Manson, in game 1, this would have been a sweep and still you are lingering on his mistakes, even today? You are hopelessly negative about Georgiev! It is still a team effort!
I think all we said was the 3rd goal should have been saved. Then praised him for his play. Maybe we aren't the ones focused on the negative???

The refs were awesome tonight! Pretending they didn’t see those 10 Avs penalties was great! We even scored on 2 that should have been a Jet powerplay! I LOVE when Bettman rigs series for American teams. I sure hope he doesn’t rig the Vegas series against us. Ohhh wait….
