- The Colorado Avalanche have their backs against the wall and we will see how they respond when the go into Texas to take on the Dallas Stars for Game 5 of their second round series.
Obviously, they won't have the services of Val Nichushkin as he has begun serving his six month suspension. Some Avs players shared their thoughts on the matter after Game 4, and they were a little eye opening.

I'm always going to hold out hope. This is the NHL playoffs. Anything can happen. The avs have one of the best top lines in hockey. If they can rally, they can win. Let's go, boys, turn it up a notch!

I am a die hard Avs fan and have been a fan since the Nordiques. The sad part about all of this is most people are looking at him as a hockey player who makes millions but how about looking at him as a human being. We have all lost someone or know someone who lost somebody to substance abuse. He is a human first and foremost and needs to get help. True Avs fans stopped looking at winning and started hoping for his better health (At least we hope). This is why I love you guys. You look at players as humans first and for this as someone who has lost so many due to this am so grateful that you care so much. Every other streamer or broadcaster is just looking for views and it's truly sickening they have no heart in the game they say they love so much. I don't care if Avs win or lose tonight. I just want the team to support Val in his road back to good health.
Real fans stopped looking at winning? Stop, it's a sad situation but cmon life goes on.... we're talking about a very rich pro athlete who chose to continue whatever he is doing.... I don't know him personally so why does the avs world need to stop? I work downtown Denver near homeless shelters around plenty of people who need help....is he above them? He's family and friends need to be there to support but the game moves on.... this whole team worked there ass off all year! What about there support? They dont deserve to keep going because one person is having personal issues and they want to clearly keep to themselves anyway?

I feel bad for Parise, Cogs, and Johnson. This is likely their last shot and to go down with the Nuke stuff hanging over this series has to taste so sour. Getting beat by a better team is one thing, but getting torpedoed right in the middle of the series is another. I don't blame Johnson for being pissed.
They were already being beat so it isn’t like a great stretch was blown up. I get what you mean though. There is enough disappointment to go around for sure.

They can say Nuke's suspension just before the game wasn't a distraction , but clearly it was. But that was then. Today and hockey will be the focus for the Avs now. Need Wood on that top PP and get him in front of Jake. Zero traffic in front of the net has to change. The tag line for the playoffs is "All in".........tonight they ALL have to be IN. Simple. If Miko is hurt I get it , but man he has been awful and lazy af this series . This entire team should be pissed off that they are down 3-1 and need to use that to their advantage. Kyle is spot on; they have been so afraid of making mistakes that all they're doing is making mistakes. I hope that tonight, with absolutely nothing left to lose, they are able to just play like the team they know they are. Dallas is smothering the top line and it is time for them to start imposing their will the way they know they can. Yeah, Dallas is a very good team but the Avs are beating themselves with their mental game.
Oh, and if circumstances permit, I would enjoy seeing Manson give Jamie Benn the beatdown he's deserved for the last three games.

The Avs need to put their fears and insecurities in a lockbox and throw away the key. Believe in your teammates, support each other in battles for the puck and trust that you are a hellishly talented team. Go Avs, we want games 6 & 7!

They've played from behind the entire series. Even in the win, it was come from behind OT winner. I hope the figure out the adjustments and execute. If they can get the lead that would mean they finally figured something out. If the go down early, it will be a quiet flight back to Denver.
This roster is the squad that can do the deep run and have a real shot at taking it. These past 2 weeks have been brutal for the locker room. But truth be told - we have either this year or the next to do this again. That was the window. So hope they feel that and rise to the moment. They must win in Dallas tonight. But even Liles hopped on spittinchiclets and said its a wrap, Dallas is too dialed in systems wised.

Coach Bednar talks about the leadership of this team. This is the time for it to show itself. McKinnon, Makar, and the Moose need to step up and produce show some heart this game. The stars and their fans have already turned the page use that as fuel to go out and win this game .as far asNichuskin goes , he absolutely did make his decisions,move on plenty of talent in that room. As for this Stars fan, I’m NOT looking past or turning the page. This series is NOT over and I won’t call it over until my Stars are up by at least one when the final horn sounds. Tbh, the only way I see avs make a comeback is if they find a way to get through their defense as thays whats beating them. Also the amount of dump and chases ive seen is irratating and no defense lets dallas walk right back into the zone and they set up just like (*snap) that.
Credit to georgiev though. But i think he's played harder than he's had to because of the team infront of him. If dallas played that way i don't think oettinger would do much better.
It seems like Dallas’ defence just works harder, plain and simple. They’re always in your face forcing pressure, Avs defence just sits back and lets play come to them, they don’t attack the puck

A few thoughts:
1. First goal issues just like last year against Kraken.
2. This team has lost their swag, yes top line but lines 2 and 3 as well. No better example than Middlestadt, with his passing puck handling you can tell when he is confident and right now he has none. Where is Colton line? They are supposed to be high energy.
3. Is there anything fishy about timing of this Val thing? Maybe just feeling the deja vu but it is tough for me to think that Val just relapsed and the league happened to test when he is performing so well in the playoffs.
if avalanche can manage things correctly with Nichuskin (think vegas type management) , he can be the ace in the hole next playoffs and we can win 2025 cup. He should be a bonus player next year and the team should be planned without him. Use salary cap manipulations and craftiness to your advantage. People won't like my statement that things should be planned without him, but you don't understand addiction if you have such a sanguine view of things
I’m not sure the Avs locker room even has the confidence that they can win this series at this point. Hard to believe it as a fan, I’m more prepared to get the team ready for next year to try again

Dallas attacked the puck everytime it wasnt on there stick avs struggled to get it into the zone they were mostly dumping it in hoping it stayed there long enough to make something happen and dallas seemed allot more physical

Win or lose, I expect the effort will be there tonight. Those guys had no time to let what happened prior to game 4 soak in and it was obvious to anyone watching that they were completely disjointed. Just have a feeling they’ve all gotten together since and collectively said, “F that. We aren’t going out like this”. Not sure that will be enough to extend the series as no matter how well they respond, they still have a beast of an opponent in Dallas to go through. The way I feel about this series is exactly how I felt about the Nuggets after getting dismantled in game two and dropping both at home. They’re cooked. So here’s to hoping the boys go out there and prove me wrong. Go Avs!

MacFarland went too far with hyper offense and this team lacks any balance and true gritty-ness they had in '22. There was effort to do so but not the same. Nichushkin out is major bummer as he's one of the only big bodies they had. Dallas can take runs at the Avs because they know nobody on Avs have the balls to do jack shit about it. Thanks MacFarland for not understanding the team makeup that wins NHL playoffs. If Avs are knocked out rd2 again fire MacFarland in my opinion.
It's more the Avs understand the Refs will absolutely penalize the crap out of them if they take runs at Stars players. And if you don't think Joe Sakic has any say in who the team gets, you're insane.
They have already packed it in. Pathetic. Thankfully, we have the Nuggets playing with the heart. Were down and counted out by almost all of the national media and here they come. I wish Avs displayed that resiliency and mental toughness; however, it is not possible with this Avs team. Something is broken in the locker room, perhaps coaching to blame for a lack of adjustments as well. So sad.

I say put Annunen in net just to shake things up. I'm not saying this is on Georgie at all, hes been fantastic honestly but sometimes changing up the goalie can spark the team and throw the opponent off.
You just don't sub in the cold goalie in an elimination game unless there's an injury especially when the starter has been so good you just don't do that that's the one thing you don't mix up

@@sprintcardriver8 oh ya he was, we played like garbage and Georgie was fantastic honestly, but you will see coaches change a goalie just to spark something sometimes. Look at Vegas vs Dallas, they switched to Adin Hill even though Thompson was playing awesome. They needed to try to spark the team in front of the goalie somehow

If they are going to have any shot at winning this game, coach needs to stop being so damn stubborn. The dump and chase strategy has not worked for three straight games and it's not going to start magically working today. That is not avalanche style hockey and it hasn't been for years, and it shows. They rarely dump the puck in deep enough or in the right spot, and even if they do the forecheck is so pitiful that the puck battle is won by Dallas and it's up and out of the zone in a matter of seconds.
Force Dallas to play avalanche style hockey. Use your speed and your hockey IQ to make them conform to your strategy rather than the other way around.

I hate to say it but it's die. Nichushkin's suspension will just be one of the excuses (with Georgiev being a legitimate excuse). The team was getting outcoached and outplayed prior to the suspension. The Avs need four goals per game against Dallas, thanks to Georgiev. That simply isn't going to happen against the Stars. I hate to say it because the Avs are my second-favorite team, and my favorite Western Conference team.
