I disagree that "both did wrong." I don't even know Kris Wu, and I'm very neutral on Ariana, but the Chinese fans only wanted to buy an album they were excited for before it was released in their own country. As far as I'm aware, it's not illegal to purchase goods internationally, it's not like they pirated the album obviously. Whereas Ariana fans literally made posts encouraging outright fraud. I don't see a single thing wrong with the Chinese fans who clearly didn't know how they would alter the US charts and just wanted to support their favorite artist and found a way to do so early.
Ariana should have just sit down and be classy but no.. i cant understand how she always finds something to run over my respect for her.

Contrary to what most foreigners think, not everything revolves around the US and Spotify. Lots of people don’t use Spotify especially overseas bc it’s either not their thing or unavailable.
Kris is an ex member of a boy group called EXO who recently got 1.1 billion likes on their showcase (which hadn’t even come out yet) on a app called Vlive which is a streaming service other than Spotify, I know right groundbreaking!
EXO are also a quintuple million selling group, surpassed 1.1 million pre-orders sales in just 28 days and are the 18th most awarded artist of all time with 251 awards.
Although kris is an ex member lots of the fans still support all of the ex members, so it’s really not at all hard to believe that they got number 1 even against Ari.

You do know Kris came from the kpop world (before he became solo) where sales and chart are a big deal + fans in China are pretty hard core when it comes to sales and charts too. so I'm sure his fans are pretty used to this intense sale. This is the same situation in which a non-western artist manages to surpass a a big western artist. And this surprises everyone and manages to bring out the dark side of the western artists' fans - the non-welcoming part.

Literally staying there for a few weeks. This is what happens when you don't cheat. It's not racism or pettiness. Kris Wu's album literally debuted with 5K sales. Honestly I don't think the Mris Wu fans were in the wrong at all. They wanted to buy a song that wasn't available in their country so they found a way to do so. I doubt the vast majority cared or even had any idea what using vpns would do to thr billboard placements. I wouldn't really called that "overly-devoted" or "stanning", just wanting to hear a new song.
In fact, I'm kinda glad this happened.
