  • Ariana Grande upset a lot of people after her recent interview with Billboard. She is being accused of "blackfishing" because her personality traits and appearance have drastically changed from when she first came into the public eye.
Is that what's happening, or are people overreacting? We look into the issue.

Blaccent is the incorrect term. Ebonics is the correct term and it is nothing new. Don't come for me bc I am actually black. In my opinion, Ari was just trying to sound sassy. She is pretty respectful herself and I can't see her doing this intentionally.

Nice how people are already being dismissive in the comments, and saying how this topic is ridiculous and everyone should just move on, nothing to see. But you as a creator did not shy away from this topic, so thank you.
You explained it very well. If people do not get it after your explanation, they are choosing not to get it.

accents are prone to stick tho maybe she just hangs a lot with people who talk like that so she unconsciously begun to pronounce some words like that and is it a crime to like to be tanned shes not claiming to be black or anything

She speaks in a deeper, darker pitch and tone than when she was a teen. That's completely normal. Especially considering that she surrounds herself in a lot of black people, who may also use a "blaccent" and people adopt the speaking patterns of the people they are around. Ariana is genetically of a skin that can tan drastically. I'm dating a southern Italian girl, in the winter, she is as pale as me (I'm of north european decent), but in summer she is as dark as a mixed person. Ariana maintains her tan year round to keep her marketing images the same.

when i first found you i thought of you as a drama channel and i loved it but now i dont really see you as that anymore. You just inform people of others like wrongdoings and stuff and explain it very well. did that make sense? like i dont see you on the same level as channels like here for the tea or snapped or channels like that anymore. You dont just report drama. You talk about an issue that happened and then you go into detail about it and bring in outside sources to help you explain things and i really enjoy it. You do more than making sure we get the entire story of something. You make the issue more important than the person who did it and you explain like why it is wrong and how not to make the same mistake. I really really enjoy your videos. I appreciate all the hard work you put into your videos and your research and your citations and everything. You really deserve more views than you get. I love you queen

I'll admit that I watch some drama channels but I try not to sub to them because I don't want to focus on others people's drama, I don't want to be consuming gossip all of the time.
But what you said is right, this isn't just about the drama but the subject of why this is a serious issue. That is something that often gets lost when we focus on the people aaaand their actions and not why people may be upset about it.
It's like the kneeling protest. Now it isn't about what Colin's kneeling about but the fact that he chooses to kneel and if he has a right to protest.

Like I said people are to offended so easily nowadays I miss the good old days when you could just be you and people didn’t give a damn and worried about the real problems! I pray people will leave this issue alone and start creating discussion on more serious things! @estelle1able Před 5 lety +404

Unfortunately, this topic is so much deeper than Ariana Grande but you did an amazing job with this video. A main issue for this topic is trends. Some trends are good; some are bad. "Trend" is defined as "a general direction in which something is developing or changing". "Culture" is defined as "the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively". Being an African-American woman, part of me takes it as a compliment that my heritage and culture are seen as being part of a developing and changing of the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement. Thanks so much for this compliment. :-D However, the other part of me is really trying to figure out why any other culture would borrow so heavily from another culture and then refuse to support EVERYTHING associated with that culture.
This is where the problem lies and why many African-Americans are irritated and bringing up "cultural appropriation" for the slightest of things nowadays. It's like people who don't support the "Black Lives Matter" movement but listen to mostly Hip-Hop and rap. It's like people not speaking out against this whole "Build a Wall" bullshit but having the nerve to celebrate Cinco de Mayo while eating at the Mexican restaurant and having a Margarita wearing a damn sombrero. Same is said for celebrating the lie that is Thanksgiving and wearing Native American headdress for aesthetic reasons while ignoring that sacred Native American lands are being destroyed so oil companies can lay down a pipeline. In fact, if ANY part of a person's day has them praising the intellectual achievements of any other culture that is not theirs, but they don't support the movements that are fighting to end discrimination towards those ethnic peoples...well, that's the definition of a hypocrite. This isn't a buffet-style existence where you can just take all the good aspects of an ethnicity and leave the bad elements...that's disrespectful and wrong....period.
You can't support just the good parts of a culture while ignoring the problems that come with being a part of that ethnicity. That's the basis of this debate and always will be. People need to really understand that what's right isn't always popular; and, what's popular isn't always right. Borrowing anything without giving proper credit and support is stealing; and, there's nothing good about being a thief. PS. I know Ariana shows love to all anti-discrimination movements so this is not directed at her in any way. Plus, Ariana is Italian and they are not considered white. Lastly, it was just that one word; so, kinda silly to bash the girl just for the word "juice"....I've seen and heard waay worse. Sorry, this was long but I just had to get it off my chest.

I sometimes wonder if you’ve been in debate before. Also you should be a public speaker, everything you’ve done makes total sense with the right research and I’m in love with everything tbh.

    *everyone comes in defense*
Honestly it's just a video stating something... That is what her content meant to be a commentary on celebs and people informing the audience on what is widely controversial, literally watch whole video before ranting and being hype, it's not even against Ariana but a discussion. Jesus Christ calm TF down.

I'm half Dutch and Half Indonesian, I am also a part german and spain.
I'm not considerd as white, or black. Many people call me tan, so it's fully understandable for Ariana. She's neither Black or White but just Tanned naturally. People can easily change over days.
