- Ariana Grande has gotten into multiple controversies involving her new single, 7 Rings. Three artists came forward and accused Ariana for plagiarizing. Princess Nokia and Soulja Boy were really vocal about it, and even 2 Chainz got involved.
But was she really plagiarizing? We spill the tea...

Jesus Christ I’m not even an Ariana stan but the poor girl can’t even breathe without people trying to turn it into something
As a black girl, the fact that she’s mentioning weaves is not offensive at all. They are causing a big deal out of NOTHING. Mentioning hair is not rude in any way shape or form. People are just so sensitive like black people don’t own the whole language 😂😂
I don't get the problem with the "you like my hair gee thanks just bought it". I actually thought she was talking about the hair extensions she always wear.
So Ariana “stole” the song from Soulja Boy, Princess Nokia, and Two Chains but none of them “stole” the song from each other? 🤔
Profile pic checks out haha
But they didn't? Nokia was saying she stole her lyrics, Soulja boy said she stole his beat and Two Chainz says she stole his Pink Trap House Concept.
Hot Take, Babe the profile pic thooo
But 2 chainz was the smartest! He did a remix with her instead of starting beef
what i was thinking
I don’t mind Ariana, but her fan base is horrendous.
LanaBaNANA umm no
So are the people that come after her. One thing they said is right tho, no matter what she does, people are still gonna come after her
LanaBaNANA you havent met any stans yet, oof.
Agreeee
LanaBaNANA
The younger stans are horrendous, but us other fans are chill.
Ariana, Soulja Boy is coming. Oh my god she has SouljaPods in. She can’t hear us. Oh my god.
BAHAHAHAHA
BWAHHAHAHABWAHAAA
Now she's doing the birdbox challenge.
Where did this meme come from??? Lol I'm seeing this pop up everywhere 😂
I'm crying...
EVERYBODY👏CAN👏USE👏 WEAVES👏AND 👏 WIGS👏
I haven't heard anything about soulja boy in like 5 years and he comes back with this?
Nah he came back with “TYGA?!”
I didn't even know who Soulja boy was until now.
What? Haven't you heard he launched his own video game?
Obviously you're not a gamer
That and the whole SouljaGame debacle. I swear, he's just grasping at thin air for relevance.
Remember when Soulja boy used to sell console that was not his?
A thief calling a thief a thief a thief, i tripled it because i too am a thief.
6:30 he really is that dense smh
Y’all , a language can be aesthetically pleasing. You guys use french everyday trying to look fancy
OK but like, "you like my hair gee thanks just bought it" doesnt specifically have to pertain to weaves. She could be talking about any form of fake hair. Everyone wears wigs nowadays, thats not a black-only thing. Even if she confirmed she was talking about weaves, fake hair is fake hair whether its a wig or semi permanent. Its not like she got a sew in afro. Also, not trying to be rude, but Ari probably didnt know who Nokia was until now. Just saying.
Ain't got no soulja boys left to crank.
Soulja Boy is stealing from Nintendo and Sony, he could not be a bigger hypocrite with that attitude.
I think you guys forgot that A LOT of people have been wearing weaves, wigs, extensions, etc. for a looooonnnggg while. I feel like it’s a little silly for one race to not let another use or wear something because they claim it’s theirs. I do think a lot of people are touchy about cultures, but there is a line of when it goes too far, and I don’t think she has gone too far.
Nikki even said that everyone in the entertainment industry wear wigs and extensions when she was saying her and lady gaga are different.
Non japanese people speaking about culture appropiation and Japanese people are like greatful about it🤔same thing happened with that Katy Perry's unconditionally perfomance
For real though
White people can wear weaves/wigs? And saying that they can’t is kinda messed up in my opinion since wigs/weaves are aloud for everyone??? Correct me if I’m wrong but, She’s talking about how she’s rich, yes? so what’s she supposed to say? “You like my hair gee thanks just washed it”? Her songs about being RICH, and her iconic hair has a lot to do with her imagine, so of course she’s going to speak about it! Also, racism? Ok, let’s go over the definition of racism. “rac·ism
/ˈrāˌsizəm/Submit
noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior." how in the world is she doing any of these things??? Accusing someone of racism with little too no proof and trying to make them feel guilty for it when Ariana (in my personal opinion) didn’t even say anything racist in her song is just wrong! If your going to go against ari, do it when necessary, do it when there’s actually a problem and when a celebrity actually deserves a confrontation, when they make a mistake and have to learn from it, but if not, then just stop
Marcie_diaz Username very few people said she was being racist. It’s more so a matter of cultural appropriation. Black women have been shamed for a long time for wigs, weaves, braids, etc. So for a white woman to come along, during a time when black hair is still not entirely accepted, and do the same things black women have been doing for years and receive praise for it instead of being shunned, like the people who created, it’s pretty messed up.
Still doesnt mean shes aloud to use someone elses language as an "asthetic"
Your dictionary definition of racism does not cover cultural appropriation and black phishing. Which this video and song are both guilty of.
This^^^^^ thank you!!!
It's racist because it's cultural apropiation. You can't just pick something you like fron a culture and say it's "your aesthetics"
*Last time I was this early Laura lee was still a thing*
*Leech
BeLlE MaRiE Laura Leech
sorry, who? don't know her.
BeLlE MaRiE MOOD
The hair wasn’t the problem and that went over people’s head
Its just a silly line. She's also talking ab her extensions
Weave**
lol im not a fan of Ariana but I do come across her hairstylist video (Josh Liu). I thought the lyric was totally her because 80% of her ponytail is not her real hair lol
Its weird how people started drama over *A DAMN WEAVE* 😂
Soujia boy is desperate for relevance
Bonya Yang // Honestlyyyy
Soooooo now white women cant buy weaves...? Like she had a diverse set of women in her video too I dont see the issue honestly.
There's plenty of songs that sound the same wether it's rap or pop it all sounds the same Snoop Dogg has stated himself all the new rappers sound the same. From remakes of 80 songs like video killed the radio star to even a remake of the song popular it's all nothing new. The whole Japanese thing is something that's not new either lil Kim, timberland, Aaliyah, Nicki minaj, Gwen stefani and many more artist have used asian culture in their videos and there was no uproar so that to me is a reach for something to get upset about if it was ok for those other artists why not Ariana??
Because her songs hit top 1 every time, so all eyes are on her fame, money and everything. People just can't mind their own crap.
People upset are either not asian or "mainland" japanese
Lmao, the world doesn't work like that. Some things and crimes get noticed and some don't. Ari got noticed. Thats the Tea sis
terry fon exactly
Because in their mind only white people can be racist 😑
How come everyone overlooked nicki Minaj’s video when she used the Chinese aesthetic in chun lee? Seems very hypocritical. Also the Japanese aesthetic is very popular rn and it seems like it’s westerners that are offended rather than actual Japanese ppl
I hate how 2019 is the year where appropriation and appreciation are literally the same
They want diversity by means of it being popular but only their race can use it, so not diversity diversity?
I got all the culture things,,,, except the fact they said "its in japanese characters" okay? People make songs with spanish titles,, is that appropriation too now?? We use this term so loosely its honestly old and meaningless. Lets fight against things that actually hurt
A language can be aesthetic. Something that is aesthetic or aesthetically pleasing just means that is beautiful and pleasing to the eye. For example, I can find chinese calligraphy aesthetically pleasing and use it or find a Thai traditional architecture aesthetically pleasing and incorporate that in building my own house. There is nothing wrong with that. However there is a fine line, If Ariana had used something that is very important to a certain culture (like religious artifacts, accessories, etc) then that would be something to get offended over.
I agree but Ari has been studying Japanese for years and I believe she really does respect the culture and wanted to showcase it
Ariana Grande is not Italian, she an American with Italian heritage. It's been days people keep involving Italians in this story, please just stop. Leave us out of this story
grazie, finalmente.
(it was a mistake calm down)
I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS. I loooove ariana, but she isn't Italian, not fully, and, it is more just heritage. Again, I love her, but hearing people defend if she does something(unintentionally or not) racist, disgusts me.
It's just a way for the cultural appropriation police to prove that she's white lol
They're using Italian to describe her ethnicity not her nationality. Italian is used as both a descriptor for the ethnicity (people with Italian heritage) and the nationality (people physically born in Italy). You can be born in America and be Italian, just like you can be born in Italy and be Hispanic(for example).
People nowadays will bash on EVERYTHING literally EVERYTHING. That's why i hate humans. How can we make a "better world" when all of y'all always have something negative to say about other people. Oh my god, i'm sick of this world.
Not a fan of Ariana, but as an artist myself, I don't see any kind of stealing.
In the art world, nothing is purely original. Everything is inspired or taken from other sources. Everything is a remix. Sure, there are similarities, but you can see similarities in most things if you scrutinize them enough.
When it comes to the whole race and weave stuff, I don't have any comments.
Why do I feel like everyone is so sensitive these days 😐
Hey You do realise that we are 7 billion people. Its possible for 2 or more people to have the same ideas.
Wait...only color woman can only wear weave?
I prefer Ariana Grandayy
ME TOO
Sameee
Your everywhere
You were also under Pewd's new video
kremit the frog i feel like I’ve seen u before 👀
Soulja boy wtfff “Miss you.” “You’re a thief” LMAO
This the first time I'm actually half agreeing with Ari's fans
The whole Japanese cultural appropriation thing is dumb, like people have already had this conversation before about Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne, and the general consensus from actual Japanese people is that they think it's cool or just don't care lmao
All the people getting all up in their feelings about this aren't even Japanese, they're white
I think people get so offended these days because they're bored and spend their time on social media vs irl... I can't believe how soft society has gotten. It's. A. SONG! Calm down lmao
I think it’s kind of silly that people are calling Ariana Racist because of wigs, extensions etc. People calling her racist even though it’s very racist to say that white people are not to have fake hair I’m confused ?? Btw I’m not a HUGE Ariana Stan 😂😂 but that’s just my opinion don’t kill me 🤣
I would agree and say that some of Ari's fans' ignorance is the problem. I've seen it a lot. Racism and death threats from the toxicity from some of Ari's fans. But that's not in Ariana's control, and she shouldn't be getting hate for that.
Am I the only one who don't understand this cultural appropriation thing? I mean do people get offended this easily nowadays?
2019: everyone gets offended over anything ._.
The satccato like delivery of the lyrics is a popular sound, she didn’t steal it from anyone. I’m not even a fan but this is ridiculous. As far as the weave goes, yes black women wear weaves more often than white women but she’s been wearing one for years so she literally did buy her hair. The pink trap house is a little weird and so is the Japanese thing but generally I think she’s allowed a few mistakes. Don’t come for me thanks
So is no one allowed to use anything from anyone else’s culture now? We all just have to stay in our own lane?
Smh
It's not like that. It's like, imagine if your grandmother invented chocolate chip cookies and everyone thought they were disgusting and mocked her and all your family because of it, to the point that it made you all really ashamed that you were used to have them. And then later some random dude came up with them, claimed they invented them and became extremely rich because NOW everyone else thought they were the best thing ever. And there you are with your family not getting one cent even though it was your creation and suffered so much before. It's kinda like that but with more oppression lynching and racism lol
Everything is about race now?
Nancy exactly omg
Soulja boy trying to be relevant
not really ariana is the one trying to stay relevant stealing shit from everyone
whenever someone drops a song and everyone loves it, people try to find EVERY LITTLE THING that’s wrong with the song, and it works. upsetting
Let her wear whatever hair she wants to wear! DAM. Anyone should be able to express themselves in the way they desire. I mean, isn't that what we all preach??!
why couldn’t she just use her nonnas garlic bread as aesthetic smh
Laila August 😂😂
Laila August HAHAHAHAHA
Lmfao 😆
Because garlic bread is italian and that would've been the next problem.
Princess Nokia had a song called “Orange Blossom” which totally copied Kali Uchis “Honey Baby” so I wouldn’t believe her saying that “ShE sToLe My SoNg”
the more popular someone is, the more people are gonna try to tear them down by comparing their work to others'. 🖤
Jesus, here's the deal people. Look I don't have a hat in the ring for any of these people but all these lyrics are about similar things. These artists have similar styles of music or at least speak similarly. So it makes sense that they would sound similar. There was so many people who came together for the various concepts and so they were probably inspired- even subconsciously- by these people. which personally I don't see anything wrong with. Art inspires art. These artists weren't a part of making the actual song or music video so why should they get anything from it? Honestly I am confused on what people have to gain from this type of seemingly- from my perspective anyways-petty drama.
To all the people saying "there's thousands of songs that sound the same" I would like for you to know that there is different rules when it comes to the music industry. Most songs that sound the same (or certain parts) are sampled, meaning the original creator either gets money off of the sales or the rights to the sample have been bought. When you just take someone else's song without doing any of that, it is stolen and there is no excuse.
thats not true especially in this situation cause theres been four different artist who have said or their fans have said that ariana's song is similar to theirs but none for those four artist are copying each other.
People do realize that there is only a limited amount of musical notes right?? And that people have been musically copying each other for CENTURIES!!!! Man people spend to much time over thinking things...... who has the energy for this B.S
I do think that the songs sound similar but I wouldn’t call it plagiarism. As you mentioned on the video, majority of the raps songs produced today have the same beats and especially when I’m wearing headphones, I can hear the same beat in most songs. As for the cultural appropriation, Ariana is only using weaves because her hair was badly damaged. Personally, I think any woman should be allowed to do whatever she pleases with her hair. If she wants to wear a weave, then she should wear a weave and should not be harassed for it.
i lost some of my braincells over some of the dramas she is going through ,it's so dumb
I love how your videos and the fact that you have subtitles built in! It's nice to hear and read as you go along
People just wanna start drama with ari
tbh its just a song and everyone needs to take a plethora of seats.
but i do love your videos and how they are made.
You have an excellent way of breaking things down and explaining it to people! You do exemplary work! You are a true journalist Spill! Exquisite!
He shouldnt be talking when he stole CONSOLES from nintendo.
I’ve been waiting for another video to come out!!!!
😂😂😂😂I’ve been over this whole thing for a while
All the Ariana fans need to be true to themselves and not agree with her mistakes
I was about to lose hope, until I saw your comment
Fosmin Clorin people in fandoms are blind af, dude ofc they would shrug her mistakes off.
All fans of anyone need to do that. Stans are toxic, wether it is a stan of ariana grande, James Charles, or anyone else who has a following. People get so obsessed with celebrities that it is unhealthy. And if anyone criticizes their "queen" they get jumped on.
True cause they all be acting like they know her even when they dont which annoys me
Well, this is obviously an American issue because I still feel lost. I've been hearing this cultural appropriation phrase and it's often related to the Black culture, but I don't even have any idea of what Black culture is and how those are associated with negative labels in America. What makes it hard to discuss on the Internet for me is people are somehow expected to know this issue although they are not Americans?
Anyway, I'd like to educate myself, but I don't intend to dig into depth. What I know about the history of racism in the US is quite little, just the slavery. But it seems like people often brought up about hip hop, RnB, body parts (plump lips and hair?). I'm really not sure where to start and what to ask.
But perhaps, my main question is what's with America and this racism issue? It seems like that keeps happening there is either discrimination or "exoticism".
People are stupid everybody buys weave now a days .. extension and such I don’t see a problem if an Italian girl talk about buying hair
Spill the tea
Spill that tea faster sis
I thought Soulja Boy was dead.
I’m waiting for it to premiere
Spillll itttt I love your art so much. Your like the good version of drama alert
spill the tea sis
Actually... A lot of album covers look exactly the same to each other....
Tbh I don’t see the big deal about Ariana Grande... there are bigger problems in the world, and also what’s so great about her, I just don’t get it 🤨
Your research is amazing!!!
SPILL THE TEAAA
I honestly think people are reading too deep into all of this
i was waiting for a video on the vlogsquad/trish drama 😭
Girl, I just came here to tell you how much I've missed your videos!
I just got the notification which is perfect cause its honna make my actual tea more enjoyable to sip
Excellent job! I liked this video a lot. Keep doing what you're doing!
As a member of the Ariana fan base, I probably said this before but I do agree the fan base is problematic.
The thing is, no one is original. Not a single thought anyone makes hasn't been thought before, in some way. No song is entirely original, because all the same tools and sounds are used. Any time a celebrity is becoming popular or talked about everyone needs to jump on the band wagon to make themselves talked about too. All of this is overrated in my opinion, mind your own business, focus on yourself and your growth, that's all.
i really appreciate the subs on the video, allows deaf people to watch and for me to know what’s going on over the sound of my chewing
in my opinion;
most songs sound the same at this point and are going to have similar lyrics because language is a thing. There's not a new language written for every song that you have to study, words/phrases and sentences will be repeated, just like in books and movies.
As for the hair thing. I am a small white guy who was raised a white girl. I've dyed my hair multiple times, worn it in maaany styles and lengths and worn many many wigs. In my lifetime I've had hundreds of people asking about my hair... asking if it's real, dyed, fake, a wig etc... when people see something different of course they're going to be curious, there's nothing wrong with that. Like hell, one of the most random and amusing memories from my teen years was a group of friends asking to touch my hair which I hadn't done anything to but washed after like a week or something??? It was adorable and stupid, I didn't get mad at anyone.
Ariana: *being positive*
People: *complain*
Ariana: *apologizes*
People: *complain even more*
I just think some people are toxic, but they would fricking die if they were in her position
Can you talk about how in the bridge of Ari's song Break Up With Your Girlfriend, is actually from Nsync's Makes Me Ill
waiting on it to come out but im READY
I was waiting for you to post you are my favorite channel
I know plenty of white women who suffer from hair loss and buy their hair too. I don’t see why it’s okay for one to express that they’ve bought their hair and not another?
I think all of this is less concerning that now Ariana is 20 shades darker than her real color and people mixing her up as a WOC
YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Are amazing, Spill! *Mwah* I love you and keep it up!
The tea has flooded the entire floor.
is anyone else gonna talk about future having a song called seven rings from 2016???!
Honestly wish people had the ability to exist in peace
Hearing "cultural appropriation" got me smh
Yeah right ariana wouldnt encourage hate...
Right?
No one said she does.
Soulja Boy accusing others of theft?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Spill, do you have a cold? Poor thing 😞 Hope you feel better soon ❤️❤️❤️
Yay!!! Voice video! 💕💕🎉🎉🎉 also great vid
Artists aren't responsible for their fans actions. BTS isn't responsible for its wild fanbase, Arianna isn't for hers, neither is any artist unless their words or actions were the direct cause for the subject at hand.
I missed u cause its been a while since i have watched ur vids
