  • Ariana Grande has gotten into multiple controversies involving her new single, 7 Rings. Three artists came forward and accused Ariana for plagiarizing. Princess Nokia and Soulja Boy were really vocal about it, and even 2 Chainz got involved.
But was she really plagiarizing? We spill the tea...

As a black girl, the fact that she’s mentioning weaves is not offensive at all. They are causing a big deal out of NOTHING. Mentioning hair is not rude in any way shape or form. People are just so sensitive like black people don’t own the whole language 😂😂

OK but like, "you like my hair gee thanks just bought it" doesnt specifically have to pertain to weaves. She could be talking about any form of fake hair. Everyone wears wigs nowadays, thats not a black-only thing. Even if she confirmed she was talking about weaves, fake hair is fake hair whether its a wig or semi permanent. Its not like she got a sew in afro. Also, not trying to be rude, but Ari probably didnt know who Nokia was until now. Just saying.

White people can wear weaves/wigs? And saying that they can’t is kinda messed up in my opinion since wigs/weaves are aloud for everyone??? Correct me if I’m wrong but, She’s talking about how she’s rich, yes? so what’s she supposed to say? “You like my hair gee thanks just washed it”? Her songs about being RICH, and her iconic hair has a lot to do with her imagine, so of course she’s going to speak about it! Also, racism? Ok, let’s go over the definition of racism. “rac·ism
    /ˈrāˌsizəm/Submit
    noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior." how in the world is she doing any of these things??? Accusing someone of racism with little too no proof and trying to make them feel guilty for it when Ariana (in my personal opinion) didn’t even say anything racist in her song is just wrong! If your going to go against ari, do it when necessary, do it when there’s actually a problem and when a celebrity actually deserves a confrontation, when they make a mistake and have to learn from it, but if not, then just stop

Marcie_diaz Username very few people said she was being racist. It’s more so a matter of cultural appropriation. Black women have been shamed for a long time for wigs, weaves, braids, etc. So for a white woman to come along, during a time when black hair is still not entirely accepted, and do the same things black women have been doing for years and receive praise for it instead of being shunned, like the people who created, it’s pretty messed up.

From remakes of 80 songs like video killed the radio star to even a remake of the song popular it's all nothing new. The whole Japanese thing is something that's not new either lil Kim, timberland, Aaliyah, Nicki minaj, Gwen stefani and many more artist have used asian culture in their videos and there was no uproar so that to me is a reach for something to get upset about if it was ok for those other artists why not Ariana??

A language can be aesthetic. Something that is aesthetic or aesthetically pleasing just means that is beautiful and pleasing to the eye. For example, I can find chinese calligraphy aesthetically pleasing and use it or find a Thai traditional architecture aesthetically pleasing and incorporate that in building my own house. There is nothing wrong with that. However there is a fine line, If Ariana had used something that is very important to a certain culture (like religious artifacts, accessories, etc) then that would be something to get offended over.

Jesus, here's the deal people. Look I don't have a hat in the ring for any of these people but all these lyrics are about similar things. These artists have similar styles of music or at least speak similarly. So it makes sense that they would sound similar. There was so many people who came together for the various concepts and so they were probably inspired- even subconsciously- by these people. which personally I don't see anything wrong with. Art inspires art. These artists weren't a part of making the actual song or music video so why should they get anything from it? Honestly I am confused on what people have to gain from this type of seemingly- from my perspective anyways-petty drama.

To all the people saying "there's thousands of songs that sound the same" I would like for you to know that there is different rules when it comes to the music industry. Most songs that sound the same (or certain parts) are sampled, meaning the original creator either gets money off of the sales or the rights to the sample have been bought. When you just take someone else's song without doing any of that, it is stolen and there is no excuse.

I do think that the songs sound similar but I wouldn’t call it plagiarism. As you mentioned on the video, majority of the raps songs produced today have the same beats and especially when I’m wearing headphones, I can hear the same beat in most songs. As for the cultural appropriation, Ariana is only using weaves because her hair was badly damaged. Personally, I think any woman should be allowed to do whatever she pleases with her hair. If she wants to wear a weave, then she should wear a weave and should not be harassed for it.

All fans of anyone need to do that. Stans are toxic, wether it is a stan of ariana grande, James Charles, or anyone else who has a following. People get so obsessed with celebrities that it is unhealthy. And if anyone criticizes their "queen" they get jumped on.

Well, this is obviously an American issue because I still feel lost. I've been hearing this cultural appropriation phrase and it's often related to the Black culture, but I don't even have any idea of what Black culture is and how those are associated with negative labels in America. What makes it hard to discuss on the Internet for me is people are somehow expected to know this issue although they are not Americans?
Anyway, I'd like to educate myself, but I don't intend to dig into depth. What I know about the history of racism in the US is quite little, just the slavery. But it seems like people often brought up about hip hop, RnB, body parts (plump lips and hair?). I'm really not sure where to start and what to ask.
But perhaps, my main question is what's with America and this racism issue? It seems like that keeps happening there is either discrimination or "exoticism".

The thing is, no one is original. Not a single thought anyone makes hasn't been thought before, in some way. No song is entirely original, because all the same tools and sounds are used. Any time a celebrity is becoming popular or talked about everyone needs to jump on the band wagon to make themselves talked about too. All of this is overrated in my opinion, mind your own business, focus on yourself and your growth, that's all.

i really appreciate the subs on the video, allows deaf people to watch and for me to know what’s going on over the sound of my chewing

  • @CalebChildofHumanityCalder

    in my opinion;
most songs sound the same at this point and are going to have similar lyrics because language is a thing. There's not a new language written for every song that you have to study, words/phrases and sentences will be repeated, just like in books and movies.
As for the hair thing. I am a small white guy who was raised a white girl. I've dyed my hair multiple times, worn it in maaany styles and lengths and worn many many wigs. In my lifetime I've had hundreds of people asking about my hair... asking if it's real, dyed, fake, a wig etc... when people see something different of course they're going to be curious, there's nothing wrong with that. Like hell, one of the most random and amusing memories from my teen years was a group of friends asking to touch my hair which I hadn't done anything to but washed after like a week or something??? It was adorable and stupid, I didn't get mad at anyone.

Artists aren't responsible for their fans actions. BTS isn't responsible for its wild fanbase, Arianna isn't for hers, neither is any artist unless their words or actions were the direct cause for the subject at hand.
