  • This is a video outlining an issue where my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 would not start or crank. I had power in all of my accessories, but the car would make a clicking noise when I pressed the starter and nothing else. I outline the potential issues that I troubleshooted, ranging from bad battery to bad fuse/relay. Ultimately I ended up replacing the starter, which is an expensive repair due to labor. Hoping this video helps you quickly trouble shoot to identify what needs to be replaced. I ended up buying a new batter and relay, which could have saved 250 dollars. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am by no means a mechanic, just trying to share the knowledge considering there is very little out there on the iternet. The vehicle has 120k miles, so a bad starter is not uncommon.

Having these issues myself. Nothing but issues with this 2014 push start. Had an 06 for 13yrs never had any problems really other than fuel pump and regular maintenance.

Hi, I have problem I don’t know if it is the same issue or not. Mine is no lights except car says press brake and push button to start after I push start nothing is happening no EVIC lights or even cranking! Did you face the same problem in the beginning? Do I need to replace the starter ?

I have a 2019 jeep Cherokee, I had a similar situation. My screen wasn't working so I unplugged the battery for 10 minutes and then when I plugged it back in everything came back on including the screen. But then the dash told me to start the car so I did and then there was a message on the dash that my car was going to turn off. Then after a few minutes the car shut off and all the lights started flickering on the dash. Now my car is dead and won't start. My car only has about 40k miles.

So my car just died I heard a loud noise this morning when I started it and went away . Came to work where I find myself still waiting for a tow truck . My car turned off on me while parked , on with a/c and heading turned on since . But the last couple of weeks I had the same “Srvice electronic brake system “ so could it be the alternator or something else . Man I’m stressed out .

I had the same issue. The ground cable was bad that connects the motor block to the battery. I made a video of what I found.

Andrew, I just encountered this exact issue on my 2015 WK2 Hemi high altitude. I started to notice a slow or weak crank condition about 2 months ago but temperatures have dropped to single digit temps around the same time. I assumed the battery was on the way out. I just replaced the battery to start with as it is 7 years old now. Car started 3-4x and NOW has the same issue as before the battery replacement. I am now going to be replacing the starter in the freezing cold. Great video Andrew and I wish I had seen this sooner, although the battery was likely needing replaced anyway. You are correct in your video that there is absolutely NO information on this condition about the WK2's starting issues for a CLICK NO CRANK condition. I know the earlier WK1 (05-10MY) jeeps suffer from the yellow wire issue on their starters, but this is a different condition as there is a discernible loud click when the ignition is pressed but no actual cranking of the engine. After 5-7 seconds the starter releases or seems to disengage and the lights come back on the dash. Battery voltage is >12volts on the battery system and you are left stranded. I am adding this very long long response for anyone and everyone else that may encounter this issue like we have. I will be installing the starter today. Thanks again Andrew for the informative video.

Glad you found it helpful. I looked all over the internet, couldn't find information on the issue. Replaced the battery, the remote battery, and the starter fuse with no luck...unfortunately it was the starter. Hoping this helps others troubleshoot faster.

@@Colfacts the starter fixed my issue as well. 89k miles on my 2015 Overland Jeep. Lifetime warranty now from Advance Auto. Also the install on the Hemi 5.7 only took 25 minutes. Nothing major needs removed to install, just the front underbelly pan and the heat shield held on with 2 10mm bolts. The starter can come through the opening towards the front and it’s just the 2 bolts, battery cable and yellow wire connector. Very very easy to do for those reading this. Enjoy.
