When Spider-man said he thought Thanos was dead, he may have been referencing that story in the 70s when Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock turned Thanos into stone.
I came down to say this; the lead-in to Infinity Gauntlet is Thanos being resurrected before he hunts the Gems down, Spidey fought him briefly before he died in the 70s so he probably just heard they turned the fucker to stone n assumed he was dead
That’s how I always took it. I’m surprised to see people thinking otherwise.
It's always good when Sal talks about Spiderman. :D
That MCU Spider-Man suit, the one that form-fits to your body with the tap of the spider symbol, would never allow you to fit a bottle of BBQ sauce safely. Comics: 1, Movies: 0.
I think I remember when this story takes place. I believe it's before infinity gauntlet a little after thanos quest. because thanos did die before infinity gauntlet and was resurrected to get the gems for mistress death. Adam Warlock created some ethereal form of himself and turned thanos to stone shattering him.
I had this comic when I was like 12. That's why I love this channel. Sal, good call, sir.
Check that. I was 9
Im so into Ethan's enjoyment of Hook.
You'll like this week's Tangents ;)
Can't wait. Did he play the NES Hook game that you guys discover in the X-Cutioners Song Back issues?
ComicPOP this story is really cool in my opinion
ComicPOP so it's kinda ironic that when he died again in superior Spider-Man nobody detected his soul leaving his body not even doctor strange couldn't save Peter from doctor octopus what the hell
'pooor peter parker youre all alooone' -hishe
+a girl named brett Exactly ;)
Thanos, when had the full Infinity Gauntlet, has been shown to create avatars of himself that travel/exist through-out time. It is perfectly plausible that this event happened after the 'actual' Infinity Gauntlet books.
I love the comic page transitions instead of jump cuts. Gj Sal!
This story was one of the preludes to the infinity gauntlet, I remember reading it in the omnibus. It made sense that Thanos was there since he was in god mode at the time.
I really liked this, pretty packed meta story for just one issue. Of Spider-Man no less
If this was done now, it would be six or seven issues long.
This is the second time I've started watching back issues wearing the same shirt as Ethan.
A thought occurred while listening to Sal: Since Thanos controlled the time gem when he held the gauntlet, couldn't he have witnessed Spidermans death during his possession of the gems by peering into the future from his perspective ? this may.also explain some of Thanos stoicism since he gained knowledge of all of time
I loved this issue as a kid; it's still good today. Leonardi is an incredible artist and completely underrated. And please. please. please do Larsen's Revenge of the Sinister 6 soon it's wonderfully bugfuck nuts(in the best possible way).
16:42 In the caption box: "And his gut lurches like an over-stuffed sack of sins." ...oh-kay.
Haven't seen HOOK in quite a while but just remembering it being fine.
I got this issue off of a rack at a convenient store and convinced my dad to buy it for me when I was 10. I love this issue, so much nostalgia
"Or you're marriage" blows brains out.
Please do Inferno next. The reaction shots from Ben and Ethan would be worth any price of admission.
Terraxia? So that's the name of that character that shows up during Thanos's win pose in Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes game!
R.I.P. Sticky Prince
Good stuff guys, as always. Keep up the great job!
I'll maintain you should do a back issue explaining the first volume of Spider-man 2099 or just introducing the 2099 characters
Just to add to more of the confusion, this issue was actually included in the Infinity Gauntlet omnibus. So someone at Marvel certainly thought it was a tie in.
We’re a lot closer to the possibility of them reviewing The Death of Ultimate Spider-Man than we were in 2016. Cannot wait to see them get to it. The buildup is getting me hyped right now.
OMG One of my favorite movies of all time is advertised in the back of that book! I had a Hook poster on my wall when I was a kid! So great!
Bring back your parents to discuss some books that everyone on the couch has read (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Court of the Owls, Killing Joke etc.)! I'd love to see them return!
Batfreeze said on letters page Killing Joke w/ parents was confirmed.
P.S. I'm featured on that letters page so go watch it!
ooooh, a court of owls back issues with sal's parents would be awesome
***** And because the show that nobody likes but me Gotham features the Court of Owls, that may give them some context to help them understand the story better.
I love that you kept in the Hook conversation and didn't just keep it for a tangent. I love tangents but that was a great random conversation in this video.
I don't know how long the page flip transition has been a thing, but I love it.
I love this show SO MUCH! I think the onslaught arc needs to be done. Also, I love all the stuff on the shelves, you might need to do a show on it..thanks again for all the good times...
Another awesome episode as always! I think the page turn transition is chill, but the crinkle sound is jarring. I like the old zoomy swoop sound. Zwoooop!
Sal I'm pretty sure you talked about this issue once before (on one of the other shows), but can't complain cause a new back issues is always good :)
he had a heart attack do to the concussion Force that stopped his heart
You guys are great. I'd love to see an episode on Miracleman.
Just absolutely love your show guys! It is a treat to watch you all do something you love and share it with us. Wednesday's are always made a little better with Back Issues!
you guys have come a long way. Still enjoying these vids. Peace.
Your audio quality is really getting better!
Good job guys I love your spiderman episodes
i smoke marihuana while looking at this. just loved it. it made me cry, laugh, think, and made me love. great video
How does Spidey know about the events of The Infinity Gauntlet storyline? Wasn't he one of the heroes that got his mind wiped at the end of the story?
If I remember correctly, Spider-Man saw Thanos "die" before the Infinity Saga started. Back when Thanos was just after the Cosmic Cube and playin' around with original Captain Mar-vel. Thus why Peter says "I thought you died."
None the less, I have this comic and it's one of my favorites. Thanks for reading it.
Yep. So I always assumed this was right before the Infinity Gauntlet event, right after Thanos gets all the gems. And Spider-man thought this whole thing was a dream, and probably didn't even know what the gems were at the time. Elsewise he could have warned everyone.
Thanks for this ep, Really enjoyed it
“Who’s Solo?”
“Nobody”
You channeled Rob at this point.
The freon would have been under pressure so it was probably the force of it being released straight into him that stopped the heart.
4:42 great rick and morty reference
Always saw that cover in my comic book shop and I never was interested. I dont know if it was a right choice
Maybe this takes place before the Infinity Gauntlet during the Thanos Quest e.i. when the heroes thought he's still dead.
I think it's nice that for a couple of months (before the universe gets destroyed)in the ultimate universe peter and mary jane finaly get to relax no Spider-Man no pressures. But i manly like it because it references an older ultimate Spider-Man book where mary Jane wants to run away and peter says one day, then they finally get to leave.
The Mercs for Money stuff has been pretty good so it's not like Solo's solo series is coming out of no where (same goes for Slapstick & Foolkiller). Need his own book? Probably not, but you never know could be good.
Ungreatful Duck The solo ongoings? No. Deadpool has had the Mercs for Money in it for his ongoing, there was a limited Mercs for Money Series, and Now there is an ongoing Mercs for Money.
every time sal mentions ultimate spidey i cry a little #stillwaiting
I thought you were going to do the death of the ultimate spiderman. And yet this was still awesome, never read this story before
This Chanel deserves more subscribers
Like the page turn fades guys. A small thing that adds even more character to the greatness that is back issues
Hey, Rick Leonardi! He drew the first major portion of Spider-Man 2099. Maybe this is a sign of things to come. Embrace the future! Also Sal, are there any particular issues of Marvel's What-if that you enjoyed? The only one I've read was what if Captain Marvel hadn't died.
This is one of my favorite Spidey stories but it’s so under appreciated. Ann Nocenti was one of the better comic writers.
They never confirmed that was THE Peter in ultimate only A Peter and with his last days well documented by shield and no explanation given I still hold the view point that the Peter we saw was Scorpion Peter and it was fury or someone who knew about Scorpions Peter decided to give him Peter's life. How they did this? piece together memories based on the public and shield based information they had on Peter after his death using that as an excuse on how and why he knew he died while wiping out the stuff about being scorpion. Yes it'd be a cop out if confirmed but at the same time imagine fury after witnessing peter dying decided to just let scorpion peter live a "normal" life as Peter. Too bad that only lasted a few weeks/months in universe
For the record, Freon is the stuff used in Freezers and Refrigerators to do the cold stuff
uh-um.you can get burned from Freon. Very cold you will get freezer burn and it will blister. and not to get technical but freon is a name of a refrigerant. and yes Freon is heavier than oxygen like it was released into a room it would have a very hard time breathing
great work guys love the show is it possible for you to do some captain Britain books
I added refrigerant to my truck's ac two weeks ago. It's pressurized. A malfunction of the dispenser (like what happened to me) could easily give you frostbite if you make contact with it as it expands (thankfully it did not spray on me). Freon is similar in that respect to the r134 they sell now.
Cool page turning sound effect
Who is that well shaven man? And what did he do with Ben?
xander trejo Skrulls can't replicate hair unfortunately
It's possible that it was pre-fake death Thanos and he was time traveling and/or using the gauntlet to travel to this place that Spider-Man goes to. With the gauntlet, anything is possible.
*Thanos:* "I, a super-powerful, nigh-cosmic being, now have the power to go to any time or place I want. The universe, with everything that entails, is my oyster...Better use it to rustle Spider-Man's jimmies."
Thanos is a dick.
love it as always...
i also liked the page transition
best one shot ever love this series...
Just wanted to say, please don't cut out when you guys get off topic talking about comics! Watching you guys argue about the reasoning behind Hook's advertisement was hilarious!
You could say that, since Thanos has the infinity gauntlet, he could travel to any time ans any place at will, regardles if, in spiderman's point of view, thanos is already dead
every 18th episode should be a new death of spiderman episode (136, 154, 172, etc.)
Anybody else disappointed that this wasn't the ultimate verse but stuck around anyways because they love Back Issues?
I had this comic and i drawn from it all the time a one and done story about self sacrifice
Had they established that Thanos is a eternal at this point? But the whole titan/deviant/eternal stuff gets confusing especially when it comes to thanos
This is collected in the Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus if anyone wants to read this without buying the single issue.
It's been awhile sense Sal done a good old fashion spider-man story ^_^........needs more rants
Was there a cat meowing or moaning or something near the end?
+Mrstipes0321 Snoring
Its a spooky ghost, or death
I swear you've done this book before.. I remember everything about this book and I've never read a Spider-Man comic lol
Omega Men by Tom King on Back Issues ( I haven't read it but would love your guy's thoughts on it)
Very interesting book!
Thanos is to Spider-Man as Flash Thompson is to Peter Parker.
Freon would definitely freeze you if you got covered in liquid Freon. And he would’ve suffocated if he didn’t freeze to death.
K
All this Thanos stuff got me wondering, will you ever do a cosmic storyline? I know you've done some of the events, but it'd be cool if you did DnA's Guardians of the Galaxy, or Nova, or Annihilation
this sounds awesome
I have a The Weekly Pull cast signed copy of that landscape comic. I couldn't resist it's so awful.
I don’t want to be that guy, but actually! ☝🏻 freon gas is non-flammable and sometimes is an ingredient in fire-suppressing extinguisher agents. Also I love Back Issues, keep up the good work, guys 🙂
Im having deja vu i swear i have seen this back issues before
Omar Rivas Bustinza same lol... is there a second video of this?
He has mentioned this before but this is new and please Sal and gang do Typhoid Mary!
He talked about this in the last 60k or something subscibers stream.
I have definitely heard Sal talk about the BBQ sauce thing before. Not sure where though so I can't confirm or deny if this back issues has been done before or not.
I remeber him talking about the freon in one of the JMS reviews for spiderman.
Damn it, I was hoping this one Ultimate one. Are you guys going to talk about Ultimate Spidey ever?
The religious junkyard represents the death of all human-made interpretation of death and the afterlife. It means, in essence, "all of your religious beliefs were wrong! THIS is what the afterlife REALLY looks like!" I think...
Hey Sal, have you ever considered doing Silver Surfer Requiem?
Ok just finished the episode, I'm gonna say he froze, had all those visions while 'dead', then thawed out. Same for the little girl, there was no tissue damage because comics.
How about for the next back issues you guys can do a Justice Society of America run
wearing the same damn shirt as ben right now... son of a....
where did you get that infinity gauntlet on the thumbnail
Great 👍 video
Where did Sal explain this issue before? I know for a fact that he has in a shorter time frame, just not for sure when.
i saw all of these nearly picked them up.
..Who's that guy trying to pose as Ben? We all know Ben has facial hair.
Ben looking slick as fuck
I'm saving my virginity for the ultimate Spider-Man back issues
Ya!
Do a video when spider man had weird spider arms
Can Ethan not help but reference that one line from the Matrix 2?
it's almost like some part of that line got imprinted on him...
Yessss!
Hell yeah!
