You left out the Star and non star battery connections. For example my Makita portaband wont take anything other than a 3 amp hour. Ill bet the non star 14 & 18 volt dont interchange.
no thanks ill stick to my red tools
@@nomercyinc6783 No wonder your other comments are so wrong and uninformed. Is it fun having no life and trolling comment sections on the internet?
You are the world's best Makita tool reviewer, hands down. Makita should sponsor you for unbiased reviews.
Awesome video! Thank you for teaching us the difference between these batteries!
Very interesting!😁👍
I still use my 14.4 Panasonic Drill and Impact which I purchased on Amazon in the USA in 2008. Around 2016 or so I noticed the same tools rebranded as GREENLEE and I bought them. The 14.4v Panasonic and GREENLEE tools and batteries are interchangeable. I have both.
I feel Makita only still makes a few 14.4V machines because they don't want to piss off people who bought into 14.4V a lot. In Japan they do the most 14.4V equivalents of 18V tools, but in Europe you see less and less. You save almost no weight vs 18V and 12V tools have improved to a point where 14.4V is pretty much obsolete.
That a gut feeling.. keep the good work coming
Tools, man you are the best Makita review channel ever. Thank you for what your doing! I just wanted to say that i have the starlock multitool the black US version and put a 3ah 18v battery on it and it does work. Also i bought a pack of 8 used 3ah 14.4v older batteries without the indicator on ebay for 100 dollars and those batteries 14.4v work on the multitool also. The batteries do a good job
My original 18V tools also have that tab. Ended up removing the tab to use the new batteries.
yeah, did the same on an old grinder.
Back in the 1980's I used to have a 14.4v Black&Decker 2 speed drill that lasted a good 30 years before I had to throw it out.
Best CZcams channel out there out of sheer bias for my love of makita & the fact you’re across the Dutch.. only a matter of time til us aussies claim you as our own like any other famous kiwi
love your videos. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
Just plugged a 3.0AH battery into my DTM52...........Works!!
same here :)
Just tried the DTM52 with two different 18V 3A batteries and works great!
Cheers for the info
Yup, same here
Yh mine works with 3 ah and with old 3ah no indicator
very helpful, thnx!!! want to use the 14.4V battery on the DMP180Z 18V
I have some 14.4v tools that I bought as NOS with discount. As they 1/4 of a price of a newer 18v and comes with 2 batteries and charger it was Nice when I started my collection. And they're all MIJ.
I only have 3Ah LXT batteries and all work fine with the DTM52 oscillating multitool.
My Starlock Multitool also likes the 3Ah batteries.
good to know. thnx
Hitachi had (still on Hikoki in Japan) that too. 14.4 would fit 18v, but not the other way around. I remember using the smaller battery on the 14.4v as a sales pitch in the 2000s; lighter, no pointy front and works on any 18v tool. 🙂
It would be interesting to see a comparison of legacy Makita systems vs. modern ones. Just how much more power is in a LXT or XGT drill driver vs a 14.4 or NiMH? I see the NiMh drills on estate sales and Craigslist all the time in the New York area.
Your right I would like to see that too 👍
Oh, and Tools & Stuff ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😊
My 18v Panasonic drill and impact is able to use the 14.4v Panasonic battery by design
The majority of my Makita 14.4v batteries are before the battery guage but are still going strong.
Most of my 14.4v tools will not accept genuine Makita 18v batteries but do accept clone 18v batteries. The brushed tools don't like the extra voltage and smell like they are burning out the motor. However all my brushless 14.4v tools work with no issues.
I have migrated many of my tools to 18v now due to the problems of sourcing 14.4 batteries in the UK. Also, if they are available they are more expensive than the 18v.
I prefer 14.4v when using my impact driver, drill and small rotary hammer, as they are lighter and easier to use while up a ladder. However the extra grunt from the 18v batteries is welcomed for most of my other tools.
I tried the DTM52Z with a 3.0 Ah battery and it worked fine. 1.5Ah is locked out with the tab.
13:33 My DTM52 works perfectly fine on 3.0ah 18v i tryed 4 different ones
Kia Ora !
What a great and informative and interesting Video. And I learned something! I fully agree with you, and just wonder why the heck MAHKeeta didn’t include that type of gauge on the LXT platform. Probably the same reason there is nothing larger than 6.0 Ah on the 18 Volt? *sarcasm*.
Really surprised the 14.4 would fit, and work, on the LXT tools! I would have guessed makita would have made it incompatible, like they did with the ‘Star/ non Star’ batteries?
One of the best drills I ever had, was a NiCd 14.4 cordless drill, back in the day. And they were made in Buford, Georgia, in the USA. And people would come up and want to borrow it on a jobsite. I purchased it shortly after it was rereleased. Great drill.
Cheers! 👍👍👍✌👊 🇳🇿 🇺🇸
How well does the 14.4V 3.0Ah battery work on the 18V impact? Would make a great lightweight setup, especially as you can use the same charger.
Well that explains why my ML801 light is billed as 18V/14.4V on the package. Now I wish I'd ordered some of the 14.4's along with it.
What voltage does the A battery cut out at?
Still have and use 14,4V
my starlock makita multitool works with 18v 3ah battery ;-)
Please do the production tool video soon? I need a fix! 🤪
I use 14,4 v. Live in sweden (have 18 v also ) the older machines are 14.4v
Where do you buy makita production/assembly tools from?
I’ve got a 3ah 14.4 battery. I works good but you feel the power difference on power hungry tools like a blower or rotary hammer.
I have 14,4 drill ddf470 works on 14,4 battery but i did remove the stub on the underside now i only use 18v battery makes the dril lot stronger i you use 14,4 battery s on 18v tools they brak muts faster
Hikoki still makes 14.4V tools as far as I know. At least their chargers tell you exactly the same: 14.4 to 18V. I think the 12V tools might pop up more in the future because they are becoming a lot more capable and are lighter and easier to handle for installers or in the workshop.
If possible, could you reprogram the 14.4 drill?
Hi tools my multi tool works on a 3ah battery DTM52
I removed the little tab on an 14.4v right angle drill which i got pretty cheap and now just use it with 18v batteries
Is it still working alright? I have a 14.4v drill that I like and not sure if it's worth getting a 18v battery for.
@@johnregan3591 It's still working but the drill doesn't get used that often, so i don't know how long it really lasts.
@@gnshp8167 Thanks for replying, I guess it's worth a try then.
I have a ddf470 with a 3ah 18V battery. Its used and I got it at a good price. I use it around the house. The clutch is defective, want to replace it. Its brushless. Will using the 18V battery for long time damage the drill?
Over 50k by the looks of it.
Good work.
Works fine with 3A.
I strongly suspect that a 14.4V battery would cut off in an 18V tool while still mostly charged, since the tool would see the voltage drop to the 18V's "dead" cutoff.
I'm pretty sure all the "star" batteries have their auto sensing and low volt cutoff in the bms in the battery these days?
I like this 14.4V battery. Size, a pity that there are no 4.5V (x4) Cylindrical Type Lithium-ion Batteries. LEDs, which indicate the reserve even in operation (version A) 🤩
Nice. But then there is the evil that is the G series which comes in 14.4V and 18V flavours but isn't compatible with LXT. Boo hiss!
Yes ,well ,we don't talk about that on this channel...
Very interesting. I wonder what the compatibility between the LXT and XGT is, as I’ve just broke into the 40v platform, can you charge them on LXT chargers?? ✌️
No but you can charge 18v on a 40v charger. You get an adapter in the kits
You can only charge the 18v lxt on 40v charger thought the adaptor but can't charge 40v battery with 18v charger
50k - nice one dude 👍
100k next week.
You might recognise one of the props in my next video...
I have some 14v batterys that i never use and now i know that they work on 18v tools🙃
what's the smallest 14.4 to work in an 18volt tool? theoretically could you use the teeny tiny 1.5ah 14.4v battery?
You can!
Hi mate my dtm52 works on 3ah battery with 2 bars and 1.5ah batteries your multi looks to be faulty
I have 1 battery kicking round in the garage but other then that nope
#РодненькаМакітачка💪💪💪
I have an 18v makita drill that doesn't fit all 18v batteries
On a side note, do you notice much of a difference between the 18 Volt 5.0 Ah Makita battery, and the 6.0 Ah battery? I’m trying to decide if it is worth it getting the 6.0 batteries, for use in a angle grinder, and my 36 Volt LXT saws?
Green lights are definitely better on a bar gauge. I can easily read them on my Metabo HPT (Hikoki) MultiVolt batteries, in strong light, versus red lights. All the newer laser levels are using green lights.
Cheers!
Get the 5s. They put our more Amps. And the 6s don't work well on some tools. The 5s are the best batteries Makita make.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Thanks Mate! Of course you ARE THE Man when it comes to Makita!
That makes sense now, and NO ONE has stated that before! It all ‘kinda’ makes sense now, as to why they only offer the 5’s in the Mower and saw kits!?! Hmmmmm.
Thanks Mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍
The 6s have longer runtime in theory, but often cut out prematurely in high drain tools. They are not a good battery. And they are not pushed here anymore either. Just about all kits come with 5s.
Can you fit 5 21700 cells inside the 14v battery case? it can be a nice 18v 4ah battery
No because the cells are not only wider but longer, unless you did some really creative packaging.
will a 14.4v 1.5ah lxt battery work on my td173? i know it'll make it slower and impact weaker but it works for me since i drive a lot of smaller fasteners. thanks!
Yes, I do that all the time. I have a video of me using it somewhere...
Do you know where I can grab a pair of 14.4v 1.5ah?
I bought my pair in this kit amzn.to/3QZPycc
(Thank you ✊)
18v tool still can use 14.4 but not at all power brushed 14.4 tools can use 18v but will break very quick
Is that a Saturn 5 in the back left?
Yes
I bet using 14.4s 18v impact driver's will literally last forever lol
Will using the lower voltage 14.4V battery damage the 18V tool? 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
no
I still use Makita 14.4 NIMH 😂
I like the look of the "fake" 14.4v purple impact driver... That's right ladies a couple of mm makes the difference...
Panasonic still do 14 .4
Another Japanese company. Hikoki do them too.
I love my Panasonic drill and Impact

Эй, FURST❗МАКИТА РУЛИТ❓
where can you get real makita 14.4v batteries?
What country are you in? Most Makita stockists should be able to order them for you.
US, I cannot find a supplier that carries new real 14.4v batteries. I gave up and bought a chinese knock off.
Suppliers won't carry them, but they can still order them in for you in a few days. Makita US still stock them www.makitatools.com/products/search/14-4v
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I see. ok thanks.
Metabo also offers 14.4v...only an entry-level series, but still. I myself still have my beloved BS 14.4 LT Compact...which at the time - in 2006 - differed from the most powerful LTX series only in a slightly weaker electric motor. Otherwise, a really high-end machine...impulse mode, LED-light, electronic!!! torque clutch😲, metal Rohm head, one-handed operation of gear change👍 - lever on the left and right side of the machine, ALU housing of the gearbox and 43mm euro-mount for the handle, removable head and shaft that has a hex hole for a bit-s... control of each battery cell already on the machine, not only on the charger... a real high end machine. Just in case, I bought a new electric motor because it still has brushes...so that it will work for many more years....by the way, I still have four newer 18v machines, but this one is still very close to my heart.
This is pretty much an RC lipo charger. If you're an rc enthusiasts, you know what I'm talking about.
Panasonic tools are 14/18 volt compatible. It's not Makiita thing its a Japanese thing.
red for charging and green for full.y charged not rocket science to figure out why batteries have green and red lights
Clearly you don't own any as that is completely wrong.
Always amusing when people think they know what they are talking about and leave comments without watching the video leaving them looking rather foolish.
Any tool batteries from any company. Never seen a battery that has a bank of red lights that turn green as it charges.
using other brand tool batteries in other tools loses the safety circuit feature. adapters might work but theyll end up destroying the tool and batteries both
Once again your trolling comments don't fit with the video.
