OOO - Joe is so loved by old rockers like me. His performance of the Beatles' 'With A Little Help From My Friends' at Woodstock is iconic. RIP, old buddy.
Agree! Love Cocker! And when Ringo Starr heard Joe's version of their song, that Ringo actually sang, he said "I like Joe's version better!" đđŒâïžđ
@@cathyhall1350 theyâre so different can you even compare them?
Cocker also covered Beatles *She Came in Through the Bathroom Window."
The whole Mad dogs and Englishmen album is amazing. Joe always puts 110% into every song. He was a true force of nature.
That album reminds me of long ago and far away.
Blues Medley off that album is my favorite.
Great album with loads of top tier musicians headed by Leon Russell. The great Bobby Keys of Stones fame was on that album/tour playing sax. Space Captain and The Letter are must listens
LoL, the morning I first purchased it. Six or seven little purple barrels the night before. Handed the clerk the album and a hundred dollar bill, and walked out. He got to me just before I pulled away from the curb...I'm pretty sure I would not have remembered a thing had he not been so honest...
Great cover.I would like to acknowledge the backing singers who did a great job.Joe was so loyal to them that he spent his entire singing career with the same ladies
Originally done by the group TRAFFIC(with genius Steve Winwood). Written by the exquisite Dave Mason. This version by Joe Cocker was so great I went to see him at The Fillmore East. He didnât disappoint. Such a great interpreter of songs.
Good call, Dave Mason doesn't get remembered enough. Three Dog Night's cover on Live at the Forum was killer too.
@@michaelkeefe8494 Grand Funk also did a great version on "Survival"...
I saw Joe in concert several years back before he passed away. He sounded just as amazing as he did at Woodstock. RIP, Mad Dog!
When to see Freddie King, at the Starwood in Hollywood, and Joe Cocker came on stage to perform, and later Paul Rogers did also:)
@@lakenneth374 I went to the Starwood once LoL. Totaled my car and really hurt three others. Don't drive drunk folks...
Talent. It's a gift. Joe Cocker had it. Style, phrasing = hours of hard work. RIP Joe.
This is my jam. I was broke & I mean broke, starting over from scratch on a wing and prayer, I would put this on and dance in the rain like madman, walking from one job interview to the next. Back in the game now.
Right on, my man! Stay strong, always.
The great piano work is the legendary Leon Russell.
Although Leon Russell did play this song on the live version and Mad Dogs and Englishman .. the original recording was not Leon Russell âŠ
âWho played the piano in the song Feelin Alright?
The piano intro to this song is one of rockâs most recognized piano licks, originally played by Artie Butler on Joe Cockerâs debut album With a Little Help from My Friends.â
You guys should react to more Joe CockerâŠ
"The Letter", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "You Are So Beautiful", "Up Where We Belong", "You Can Leave Your Hat On", "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window", "When the Night Comes", "Unchain My Heart"
đžđ€
"Hitchcock railway" is great too!
All great suggests - hope they listen to you
@@bluebird3281 Absolutely đŻ!
What he said.
Ultimate blues song for me is Bird On A wire from MD&E live album
Every cover Joe attempted was better than its original. Bold statement Iâm sure, but his song phrasings were extraordinary.
Yes. It is said that Joe went to see Paul McCartney, and Paul would not give him "golden slumbers" because he would have been just too good.
and then you look at who he covered and see how much weight that statement really holds. he's legendary.
Truth.
Disagree. This is a nice cover, but the Traffic version is better
Traffic version is brilliant, like most everything they did, but the styling of an individual vs. group is sorta apple and oranges, no? Joe tackling a song always made me smileâŠas did Steve Winwoodâs Traffic ensemble.
This is my favorite cover by Joe Cocker. He was a monster talent. RIP Joe.
Leon Russell would play keyboard often with Joe Cocker, but I am not sure if that is him on this song.
You should react to Leon Russell more.
I LOVE watching Brad train his listening ear. He's noticing TEN times more things about the music than he did only months ago.
i think Dave Mason (of Traffic) wrote this song. it's been covered by so many people cuz it's a great song!
You are exactly right Lex! That song has been in several ads over the years. I'm really impressed with you two. You gotta do Joe Cocker from Woodstock, "A Little Help From My Friends"
Joe gives you everything he has in each performance. His catalog is worthy, and I always liken him to NOLAâs own Dr. John. What awesome showmen they are. Excellent reaction! đ€
Brad & Lex, youâll love his âUnchain My Heartâ and âYou Can Leave Your Hat Onâ!!!! The closest thing to the male Janis Joplin!
âYou Can Leave Your Hat Onâ by Joe cocker should be next guys, heâs got so many great songs!
Joe Cocker's like Janis Joplin, just gotta see him live at his screaming best. Sugestion: "Let's go and get Stoned" from Woodstock. Just amazing.
I'm glad you also compared him vocally to Janis Joplin!
Cool scene in Denzel's film "Flight". He's a pilot walking to work with Cocker's song playing.
I like the original from the 1968 album Traffic, but, Cocker does a credible job on this cover.
Seen Joe live many times. He's from Sheffield which is my home town. voice never deteriorated. Soulful.
Mine too up the owls
THE Joe Cocker voice. None other quite like it. John Belushi did a copy of him on SNL stage while standing next to him. Two of him doing one song and John even had his odd mannerisms down perfectly. Its on youtube, and well worth the look.
Joe Cocker was as much a visual experience as he was a musical experience
Joe Cocker was one I wished I had seen in concert. He had such a physical way when he sang, his arms would contort all over the place. You should listen to "Keep your hat on".
I always liked Traffic's original recording but when Joe put this cover out - he just took it over. To watch this guy is another treat.
Hell Yeah!!!
RIP Joe
"You Can Leave Your Hat On"
I was lucky to have met Joe Cocker in 1988.
Was invited to breakfast with him.
Grabbed Mad Dogs and Englishmen album.
Pulled it out to get him to sign it.
He did and commented about those days.
The Album is framed and sits on the office wall.
One of the nicest people you would have ever had the opportunity to meet.
R.I.P. Joe. thanks.
Got to see Joe Cocker with The Guess Who playing at Red Rocks, which is one of the best concert venues around, he lived here in Colorado for many years. It was such an honor to watch him
Lex, the song you're referring to at the end of your comments is called "Linus & Lucy" and was written & performed by Vince Guaraldi for the Charlie Brown Christmas special!
Hey guys what's up! Greetings from South Florida! Joe Cocker has one of the best voices ever. Smooth like butter, but rough like sandpaper at the same time. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
This has always been on of my all favorites. Great choice guys. Where are they musicians today, they canât do this now. Lex, this song has been in tons of movies and commercials, Iâm sure youâve heard parts of it before.
Linus on piano, Charlie Brown singing, Snoopy on drums....makes this whole song turn a much better vibe ....such a great song to begin with...quality music.
Very Ray Charles feeling and sound even the tempo and arrangements on this song... Great tune! Great singer.
Cheers from London England đđđŽó §ó ąó „ó źó §ó ż
Joe is an absolute legit legend - along with his friend Leon Russell on piano who has some great jams solo as well. What a singer!!
When Joe Cocker covers a song it becomes his.
This song is such a groove. It always makes me smile.
Late great Leon Russel on the eighty eight , remember rocking out to this album 1971.
Joe has some truly incredible songs and his covers are great.
One of those covers that is greater than the original. The Great Chris Stainton on the piano and who created the intro. Dave Mason wrote and first recorded by Traffic.
This is the song he opened with at Woodstock 1994. 10am, Saturday morning. He was still awesome.
tons of commercials have used this song.
The singing ashtray. Brother Cocker got soul.
No one knows how a white guy from England got this much soul.
Could you do Joe Cocker's "Bye bye black bird? It'll give you chills....for reals.
Love you guy's. You two are simply awesome!
Love the piano solo. One of the best.
You are great Lex. Such a positive person, always smiling. Never change.
Man, you two are really hitting the great vibes today with these reactions. I love it. Thanks for this, Brad and Lex. Great music and reactions y'all.
Lex you are amazing! You got Woodstock in your soul!!
Joe brought the heavy soul from the industrial north of England. Like a foghorn. And from what I've heard, he was a real unassuming guy away from the microphone. But he definitely brought it when he got up there.
On a patio bar a decade or 2 back drinking extra large Long Island Ice Tea with 4 foot straws. After a few & feelin' it this song came on and then we decided to get smashed. I'll never forget that moment in time. Rock on Brad & Lex
This British Born Soul/Rocker has such great vocal ability. Man got soul. Joe passed a few years back in his mid 70s. One of the greats.
A voice like his required lots and lots of practice and rehearsal hours with pure raw talent as a base...
Yes! Please try "You Can Leave Your Hat On" by Joe. You'll LOVE it! And so will I!
With Joe, always watch him live
Itâs great to watch Brad sit there deep in thought trying to understand the lyrics, while Lex is sitting next to him grooving to the beat, great stuff guys, keep it up.
Joe Cocker's performance of "A Little Help From My Friends" with The Grease Band at Woodstock is EPIC! Check it out.
Leon and Joe Cocker were the Mad Dogs and Englishmen who also do this song. Check out Leon Russell live playing "Jumpin Jack Flash" with George Harrison, Clapton, Ringo Starr!!!. Dripping with pure soul - This is the kind of music you both LOVE!!! It's from the concert for Bangladesh - first major rock benefit in 1971. The entire video is on the other site that posts videos. Leon at 55:30 minutes in.
That piano was played by the late, great Leon Russell, an Oklahoma native who moved to LA at the age of 17 and played session work with the Wrecking Crew. Leon was a consummate pianist who played on so many songs from the 60s, it will blow your mind. It wouldn't take much effort to verify. By the way, Leon also wrote many songs that are now classic: "A Song For You," "This Masquerade," "Tightrope," "Back to the Island," "Lady Blue," "Delta Lady," Please do a dive into the many songs he wrote, produced, played on and sang.
Watched and listened to Joe in concert in 2000 when he was opening for Tina Turner. Wow!! Forgot at the time how many hits he had. The audience in Edmonton wouldnât let him get off the stage with encore after encore. He just finally said âHereâs Tina Turnerâ thanked the crowd and walked off. Cherished memories, small town NWT, Canada.
You really need to see Joe sing to understand how he puts everything he has into a song. He will shake and flail his body around. He puts his entire being into his performance. He is an amazing artist.
Joe Cocker could sing out phone numbers from the phone book and sound cooler than anyone on the planet... so many great songs. Personal favourite is 'When The Night Comes'
Good to see you guys into this absolute classic!! RULE: anytime this is on the radio--turn it up!
This song and Delta Lady are my faves from this era
I know y'all read this all the time...But y'all have the best intro to your videos...hands down. No fluff...no bs...just telling people what the video is and getting into it. Seriously, simple and accurate is best. Love talks videos. Wish more CZcams's would take talks lead and replicate it. Most act like those damn recipe websites...you have to get through several lines of vs before you even get into the actual recipe. Y'all just give the good stuff right away lol. Thank you!
Wow, I can't believe I was more fascinated by Brad's dream than the reaction. You should write a book or screenplay, dude. "Get Out" in the window was over the top. đ
It's like an R&B chacha with jazz piano.
love everything Joe does
Joe Cocker's amazing voice and passion matured and as a huge fan, I think got better until the end about 8 years ago. Lot's of pleads for his songs 1960s -70s but his 80s 90s 2000s albums were brilliant. "On My Way Home" one of many.
That dream story you told puts me in mind of No Country for Old Men.
Being an old guy I saw the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and for my 70th birthday a few months ago I saw Dave Mason do Feelin' Alright. Good choice.
Great song! Yay! Thank you!
Leave your hat on is sooooo good . I love Joe and love this song .
I always enjoyed his performances because he wasn't pretty, but had such a depth of spirit & genuine love for the music that it made him glorious.
I loooove this song!
This was one of his biggest hits . Composed by Dave Mason from the band Traffic .
Another Classic Reaction...awesomeness
Tjhis is al all time great song but a legendary singer. There are two fun alternate versions out there too.. Check out Huey Lewis' version in the movie Duets- Lewis is playing a karaoke hustler and he rips this one out for a great performance. Also there is a must-see performance by Cocker on SNL when John Belushi comes out in the middle of the performance and out Joe Cocker's Joe Cocker. it is fantastic!
this song is one of the greatest positive songs about alcoholism ever made! joe was strugglin when he made this the great joe cocker r.i p. : )
You'd ever know to listen to him that he's 'just' a lad from Sheffield. He was phenomenal.
When you're ready for more from Joe Cocker, check out his live cover of the Box Tops 1967 classic "The Letter" from his 1970 Mad Dogs & Englishmen album. Rita Coolidge, Donna Washburn, Claudia Lennear and others provide the backing vocals and Bobby Keys lays down a sax solo for the ages. Killer! PS. Fords, Teslas, nightmares, wah??? Late night snacks will do that sometimes... [grin]
Joe Cocker was a master of the cover song. This song was written by Dave Mason ( Delaney & Bonney, Traffic) and originally done by D&B, but Mr. Cocker (RIP) rips it up real good.
Dave Masonâs original with Traffic is damn good too. đ
@@karenmikalofsky5287 No bout a doubt it.
You need to watch a live version to see what Joe Cocker looks like and how he moves on stage. You'll be shocked because I bet you have a certain notion what the person behind that voice looks like.
If you've never seen Joe Cocker sing, you need to. An iconic american singer, he puts every ounce of his being into his songs, but while he's doing that, he appears as if he's having a seizure. Once you see him sing, you'll never forget. He was completely " in the music".
He's not American he's English.
Love Joe Cocker, but point of information: He was English, not American.
Much love.... Thanks
"How do you get a voice like that?"........Heroine lol
You were impressed with his distinctive, raspy voice but you should see him performing. He contorts his body in so many different ways as if he is squeezing out that sound.
Ha, Brad is always sweating the details (and, to his credit, actually listens to the lyrics) while Lex is a wholistic thinker, taking the ride that the music has to offer. He stares at his screen, while she is close-eyed, grooving to the total experience. This was as true with Joe Cocker as it was with the Doors. Great contrast in interpretive styles!
I absolutely love this song, I've done it at Keri Oki a few times
Joe is one of my favorites!!!!
There is a great old SNL video on CZcams of this song with John Belushi impersonating Joe Cocker with Joe, live on stage.
The late Great Mitch Hedberg once said that dreams are work. đ .... I miss him so mush.

So beautiful
It has reminded me of Charlie Brown since I was a teenager in the 70s. I thought that I was the only one.
This is gospel sounding! Preach Joe!
It was in the movie, "Invincible" with Mark Wahlberg. This version is not Joe but Grand Funk Railroads. Great soundtrack!
Grand Funk Railroad does an excellent cover version of this tune.. a favorite for me..
Top 10 song of all time for me. Love it!
Great classic
I think there's a Charlie Brown.... Schroeder vibe going on. For sure it was in a tv commercial.
Dave Mason wrote this song. You guys should review Dave's song, The Lonely Ones, and without looking at the credits ahead of time, try and guess who plays the fantastic harmonica sections and lead solo. Believe me you won't be disappointed. Dave's lyrics and melody are fantastic too. Give it a listen.
