The song is an absolute masterpiece.
I canât get enough of this song. This has got to be in every Stones fans Top 10. This band was a force of nature during the time this song was released. đ„đ„đ„
Agreed!
#1 for me!
Top 10? Top 2! This song literally describes EVERYONE'S LIFE in the entire world!
Not in mine, really. Although when I saw them live (olé olé olé tour) they got a choir to sing the intro.
@@manuelrobledo8072 I agree. For some reason I don't listen to these songs as much either because they're played so much on radio and stuff, or just overplayed đ€·ââïž I still love it but I wouldn't put it in my playlist.
The older I get the more I appreciate the Rolling Stones
face it the Rolling Stones are a studio band, elaborate expensive productions and arrangements by professionals live horribly. Canât even identify the song because when theyâre on the road itâs just a big party. The best stones performances were in the early 60s when they first came out with the founder, Brian Jones. It was actually his group, when they played blues rhythm and blues they were great. They were called the greatest rock ânâ roll band in the world productions are excellent excellence. The shame they donât sound anything like that live
One of the many things I love about Lex is the fact that she always makes and maintains eye contact with the person she's speaking with. Every video, whenever Brad is talking, she keeps eye contact. That tells me she's completely interested in what the other person has to say, instead of just looking away to think of the next thing to say.
Lex, you are absolutely a treasure!
As Smokey Robinson would say: "I second that emotion"
I love the way she bops along to every song.
@@jimreedy1960 She's happy đ in the music đ¶. I can totally relate!!!!
Lex loves Brad!
I love how she feels the music and gets into it. As a long time Stones fan, her reaction made me happy.
This song holds up. It still sounds relevant and packs a punch almost 60 years after it first came out! And Iâve heard itâs 100s and 100s of times.
Thatâs cause you been listening to the song your whole life in commercials⊠thatâs why it doesnât sound old to youâŠ. No duh
Was this '69 or '70? " Wild horses" was '71. I could look it up. I think this was right after Brian Jones died. And I think the last song that Brian was apart of was "Sympathy for the Devil ".
I'm still 58, was born in 63, I tell everyone that I'll be 60 next year!đ€·ââïž
this was back during the Vietnam war and that is what most of the protests were about. so the 2nd verse is probably what he was talking about. it's about not giving up even though you might not get everything you want you will probably still be better for it.
This is definitely a Rolling Stones masterpiece. This is the way records should be made, where "No cover can touch that."
This one is a masterpiece. I'm SO glad you got a chance to hear it. Gritty vocals, stark message, to a backdrop of this angelic boys' choir -- there's something ironic and funny about that. It's unforgettable. Even today, people still quote this song: "Well, like the 'Stones say, you can't always get what you want.'"
I still love the reference and usage of it in the show "House M.D.". He says something like "as the great poet Mick Jagger once said, you can't always get what you want" to his Dean of medicine Cuddy in the first episode. At the end of the episode she says something like "you know I looked into that poet Mick Jagger and you're right, he does say you can't always get what you want...but what's interesting is he also says that sometimes you get what you need". Honestly probably butchering the actual lines from the show but that's off memory. It also appears throughout the show at different points, sort of a hidden main theme that will be in impactful episodes mostly.
"Gritty" is a great word for the Stones, very evocative of much of their music, especially in relation to other music out at the same time.
Early 70âs Stones at their most decadent, dangerous and brilliant. I know, itâs only rockânâroll⊠but I like it.
I've watched a bunch of dozens of Brad & Lex videos cos Lex must be the prettiest girl on the Internet doing reactions. But also she's an old soul who immediately connects to the good music and vibes from eras well before her time, and you can tell by the way she sings back, moves, grimaces, reacts, and what she says. She reminds me of some free spirited girls from an age long gone by. Now, about Brad and how off he is 90% of the time, and pausing at the wrongest places...he must do it on purpose: why, I do not know. But he must do something very right cos Lex seems to love him. Oh well, lucky fellow. Love you Lex. đ„°
Maybe the "Stones" most epic song of their vast music catalogue of almost 60 plus years of writing, recording, and performing as a Band.
Great song.
Thanks
Gospel blues rock can be some of the best rock. Soulful!
Even when I've heard a song probably agazillion xs and you two are reacting to it mostly for the first time ---I can suspend my reality and listen as if for the first time. Never fails, I hear something new and exciting in the song....through you guys!!?
It's so cool đ
yes
The London Bach Choir were totally essential to the overall sound of this song. Whoever thought of using them - that was a sheer masterstroke!
You find bach's name in all music. Bach is something that must be taught in school. It is above genius. Just for the fun, why don't you review toccadda and fugue of Bach ? (Played by many rock bands just like Beatles balckbird and penny lane and so one) , that can be funny without having to dig further into Bach's music.
It's recorded really well. It's also featured in the great 80's film, _The Big Chill._
i love that movie, i forgot until now, thank you
When it started playing on an organ at a funeral in the film, I went into hysterics at the joke, having recognised the track immediately. Unfortunately, no-one else in the cinema had picked up on it. Got some very strange looks until the track unfolded.
Always reminds me of The Big Chill
The Big Chill had one of the best soundtracks of all time.
Also in âCalifornicationâ
Mick jagger has such a swagger charismatic voice. So unique. Charisma personified in a voice.
Jimmy Miller was a masterful producer and took the Stones to unprecedented heights in their golden period, 1968-1973. He had a knack for percussion and building up songs. In fact, he plays drums on âYou Can't Always Get What You Want.â
Here Charlie, you play the maracas on this one. đ
That always surprised me that Charlie couldn't pick up on the groove. Especially for the fact he had jazz sensibilities. But Miller did a fine job. He seemed to capture Charlie's style as well. Even with those little tom and snare fills. Clever.
In fact, "Mr. Jimmy" in this song is a shout-out to Miller.
@@funkster007 It's simple. Charlie Watts was a poor drummer - and he knew it. If you actually listen to his "jazz sensibilities" they're very basic. He was so lucky to end up where he did and appreciated it.
@@Derry_Aire No friggin way. Listen to the drums on Gimme Shelter and Loving Cup if you want to hear some masterful Charlie Watts' drumming.
"Standing in line with Mr. Jimmy, and man, did he look pretty ill...." Reminds me of going over to the dealer's house to get restocked. Gotta love the 70's.......
Brad & Lex, their Brad & Lex, their âHonky Tonk Womenâ, âWild Horsesâ and âIts Only Rock ân Rollâ are next for you!! Lex was really into âCanât Always Get..â!!!
Tumbling Dice!
I prefer it when Brad and Lex play the Stones sings with gritty lyrics ie midnight rambler, theres plenty more Stones songs that lefties undoubtedly cant handle without throwing hissy fits lol
Gimme Shelter!đ
Dead flowers
@@robertbrown8362 WTF? This is about music. Do you think Stones fans are only of one political thought? Moron.
you guys are so a perfect match for each other! Lex handles music, Brad handles lyrics and when you put it together, it's great!
I grew up in 60-70âs, and 95% of time, we never were able to understand most lyrics, let alone even understand their meaning. Glory Dayz!
"Dead Flowers" is one of the best country songs that wasn't really country. Check it out.
So misunderstood, probably from covers.. That song is the ultimate FU..
And I wonât forget to put roses on your grave..
Yup
Beggarâs Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street are arguably the best string of consecutive albums by any band in the history of rock ân roll. So many all time classic songs came out of those 4 albums. Most will recommend you check out their best known songs from these albums: Brown Sugar, Jumping Jack Flash, Sympathy for the Devil, Honky Tonk Woman, Gimme Shelter, You Canât Always Get What You Want, Canât You Hear Me Knocking, etc. you should definitely check out any of these you havenât already hit up. Here are a few lesser requested gems I think youâd also love: Monkey Man, All Down the Line (specially the live video from Texas 1972), Sway, Rocks Off, Moonlight MileâŠâŠI could go on and on!
Moonlight Mile ! Dead Flowers would be great too but I would love to hear a reaction to ML!
Yup. Unbeatable
I agree đŻ on Dead Flowers. I thought about that one after I had already hit the âsendâ button!
Without any doubt!
Midnight Rambler, Love in Vain, and so on......
âđđ
Lex, your reactions are the best. Watching the music move you is a joy to behold. âïžâ€ïžđ¶
Just like in The Big Chill, this is one song I want played at my funeral! Great song!
Love that movie, great sound track also!!
Greatest Rock N Roll band ever đ€đ€
Right behind the Beatles
@@ronniedrumm1 and Little Feat. A famous British DJ used to drive Stones fans crazy because he always introduced Little Feat as the greatest Rock N Roll band. He was probably right, too, by a short head.
@@ronniedrumm1 ha ha nice attempt
I took my daughter to see the Stones when she was 13 (first concert. about 7 years ago) and this was her favorite song. They had a full choir with them for the intro and the outro. It was magical.
Cool Mom. âđ»đ»
From "Beggar's Banquet" in early '68 to "Exile on Main Street" about 5 years later, the Rolling Stones were one of the 2-3 most prolific bands in rock & roll. The songwriting & arranging were the Stones at the peak of their powers... barely even any industry-average tracks during that time.
I think you can stretch that all the way to Some Girls honestly. There were no bad records in the bunch.
I would include 'Their Satanic' and 'Goats Head Soup', so that's '67-'73
Oh yes, the five golden years for the Stones, and then you can include 'Goats' from '73 if you want. I think their 70s catalog is excellent. 'Tattoo You' ('81) or perhaps 'Undercover' ('83) is the last cohesive album before it becomes the Stones play-it-safe.
@@ernestallison9880 donât forget about âTattoo Youâ from â81. To have had the success they had already achieved and then drop that album on their 18-19th year as a band is crazy. What a run.
@@ernestallison9880 I thought Black and Blue was pretty bad. Hand of Fate is awesome though!
The song has a simple message but to me it's profound as hell, more and more as I age. It's like a gentle reminder to me everytime I hear it. Whenever it happens to come on the radio is about the time I need to be pulled back to earth. It's not the message I nessesariliy want but it's the one I need. I find.
Allways a pleasure watching Lex dig it and groove âșïžâïž
Indeed, it can pick me up when I'm feeling down
Dude, they are the best reaction people. They aren't musicians so no bias, two different but complimentary perspectives, and a very wide range of styles, eras, and genres. You guys deserve those views!
I wasn't much of a Stones fan until this album came out. This track, "Gimme Shelter" (with Merry Clayton), "Midnight Rambler" and "Let It Bleed"...turned me around 180 degrees. Watching Lex react to the build-up in this track was a joy to behold. More, please.
Not a cover! Thank you so much for choosing the great studio version. Most reactors listen to live versions that are not nearly as good and do not include the choir. Also, it is fun watching Lex be so into it. I really enjoy you guys.
I thought the official music video for this song actually cuts out the choir as well? At least, this is the first time I've ever heard them in this song. And honestly, I think I like it better without the choir. No offense to them or to anyone who likes it with the choir, but this... hits differently, and not in a good way for me. This is the one I listen to most regularly... czcams.com/video/Ef9QnZVpVd8/video.html ...and the sharpness, the snappiness of how Mick sings the words really pops. With the constant background of the choral part, it really loses that oomph.
I've always said the best "first" should be the original release as opposed to a remix.
Legend has it that the "Mr. Jimmy" who is trying to get his "prescription filled" at the "Chelsea drug store" is the great Jimi Hendrix.
And man did he look pretty illđ€ą.

It's Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.
Only the finest , talent ,money and genius production all came together to create this great .
Always surprising, always totally original.
Even when messy, they sound great!
I dig The Stones, but it is a gross mischaracterization to say they were, "always totally original", as they frequently and transparently copied The Beatles.
@@Cosmo-Kramer bullshit of highest order they didnt need to be real please
@@Cosmo-Kramer eh I think they were polar opposites, the Stones always did their own thing! Lennon said that bullshit back in the day and people instantly believed it but Stones fans know it's such a stupid remark
@@Cosmo-Kramer As you know, there's nothing new under the sun, and particularly with a new genre of music developing, there will always be some x-pollination.
You hear a Stones record, you know who it is. That's all.

I'll choose The Stones over The Beatles anyday. Just saying.
sending love from Oregon đČđ
Very hard to argue that really hard actually.
For me itâs The Beatles, Stones and Sabbath. But man it can go either way!
I grew up with the Stones and Beatles rivalry, I chose the Rolling Stones because of Keith. He was the coolest.
For me, Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Floyd, the Who and Black Sabbath all deserve to be in the top 5 but I need all 7. Any reactor that takes on those catalogs is in for quite a treat...
Don't forget Heart... those ladies kicked ass
Perfect timing. I saw the Stones in Hyde Park 3 days ago. Mick and the boys still rocking it and putting on a great show. Phenomenal band
Amazing. I saw them in 1980 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. And I thought they were getting then.
Lucky! You must have had a great time at such an historic venue. I saw them last time they rolled through Tokyo. About 7? years ago. I'm thinking it was my last time (I've seen them 6 times).
Jagger still has so much energy on stage. Keef looked like he was having fun up there, and Ronnie was holding it down and keeping it all together on guitar. They had a lovely tribute to Charlie at the beginning also. So many great songs, but Gimme Shelter was a real highlight for me
đ Confirmed.
(I was very lucky to get to see them last November in Las Vegas. First time I'd ever managed to see them live.
Great band. Great show.)
I suggest Ruby Tuesday for your next Stones reaction. It's a really cool song that hasn't been reacted to much.
It's a beautiful tune during the Stonesâ Baroque Pop phase. I love the whole album Between the Buttons (1967).
Thatâs a good song. One of my personal favorites is As Tears Go By.
Stones do brilliant music, check out early little red rooster.. Real blues
I am so blessed. Got to grow up with this quality of music and lived long enough to see a whole new generation loving it.
Inarguably one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Brown Sugar, Miss You and Start Me Up are some of the Stones' best. This one is a masterpiece, truly.
The French horn right after the choir finishes singing at the beginning always sounds to me like sunrise. Like the sun coming up over a countryside.
One of my fav songs in elementary school. Been rollin with the stones for over 50 years.
The Stones are a great band, during the 60s and 70s they were creative AF.
Definitely top 5,,,,đ„đ„đ„đđ
Rivals to the Beatles and the Who and Led Zep
They went from not getting any satisfaction to realising they can just get what they need
The stones are what rock n roll is all about . top three, stones , zeppelin and sabbath..đ€đ»
We need some early Stones: Get Off Of My Cloud, Dandelion, Mothers Little Helper, Angie, Out Of Time are Stones bangers.
Mothers little helper>Valium,NHS dished them out by the bottle full

You two are funny to watch each day. Brad Listens closely with a blank stare while Lex Rocks Out smiling and laughing.
So true!!
Lex is really getting into it, and Brad is like "What in the world am I listening to?"

To be fair to Brad, I think he internalizes the music, and is processing it.
Lex just immediately feels it.
Love his reaction to Lex groovin' out.
God Bless you both for mentioning Karaoke butchering songs.
@@TheVoxbox13 True.
I respect the hell out of the Beatles for coming here and dominating. But if you offer me a choice of 6 hours of non-stop Beatles or 6 hours of non-stop Stones, I'm taking the Stones every time.

I'd consider myself a lucky man either way.

Love this⊠as older i get, the more i like the Stones.
âBeast of Burdenâ & âMiss Youâ always leaves me in a good mood
And that is why they're the greatest rock and roll band in the world
There's nothing like seeing this performed live in front of 70 or 80 thousand people. A lifetime of memories in that moment.
Lyrics of my life. My favorite Stones song.
I attended a battle of the bands back when I was a young pup. When my friend and I hitchhiked to the venue one of the bands needed a hand getting their gear into the arena and set up. We offered to help and ended up hanging out with them all day. There was Sha Na Na ( old fifties do wop band with Bowser, Brownsville Station who played their hit Smokin in the boys room ) and a cover band who played this song. The woman singer sang the opening high register chorus and it sounded so good. Iâll always remember hanging out that day and whenever they came back to area to perform we would get a call and they got us into the concert backstage to hang out with them. People say rock musicians are all arrogant but in my experience they were really great people who went out of their way to be just the nicest people. Good memories
HONKEY TONK WOMEN is my favorite Rolling Stones!
This song is the greatest tease. All the way through it has a lurching syncopation like it's on a leash, can't get free, until the very end when finally it breaks out into a 4/4 backbeat. And you get a few bars like that and then it fades out ... It's brilliant. I want it to sit on that end rhythm and give us a brilliant sax solo or something, like a kind of better-orchestrated Free Bird. But that's just me.
Charlie Watts, gee wiz his drums make the an important demonstration of this rock band music will never die. RIP Charlie.
Problem is that Jimmy Miller was the drummer here.
@@derekcabanaw1789 wow! That is good catch.

I saw "The Stones" live twice.... 25 years apart. Just as excellent show as they always are. Legendary.
"AWESOME"
I saw them back in the 1990s. Amazing show!
You always get what you want with the Stones!
If you want a visual of this time period, watch the movie "The Big Chill". It's about a group of school mates who get together (in their late 30's) after one of their friends dies. A great story of friendship with an outstanding sound track.
Look up Al Kooper. He played the French horn in the beginning, and then the wild piano during the Gospel sound toward the end. Lex reacted to it. Al is a very influential guy in American rock. he played the organ piece in Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone. Founded the original Blood Sweat & Tears. An under appreciated giant.
Kooper is phenomenal. That first BS&T was everything.
Some iconic lyrics from The Rolling Stones!
It's nice to watch lex is discovering this
We did have great songs didn't we?
55 years on and a whole new generation digs it
I was a wild ass teenager when this came out, I miss those days and a lot of my friends now days. Thanks In Texas, 66 yrs. đșđžâïžđ
So glad you hit the studio cut, as that Live performance doesn't even get the intro right. Such a groove, and it was used in one of the best film soundtracks of all time - The Big Chill (Columbia Pictures, 1983). I seriously recommend you watch that movie for not only the outstanding story, cast and soundtrack, but also to give you some perspective (a bunch of college friends reunite 10 years later for a funeral, and hash things out over one weekend).
My favourite "Stones" song. It never gets old.
To add the Vienna Boys Choir young voices to set the table for the song is my favorite part.
I love this song, it is a classic! It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (lead guitarist)! This song has been everywhere and remade so many times! Itâs iconic! â€ïžâ€ïž
took my then 15 yr old son to see them for his first ever Rock concert!! he's totally into techno, but by halfway through the first song he was totally rocking out!! đ
Now this is a song can listen over and over.
Ruby Tuesday and wild horses are also great
The contrast between Brad and Lex is great! She's all digging it and grooving and in the moment and meanwhile, he's all analytical and thinking about every lyric, etc. Youse guys definitely balance each other out!
Listen to "She's My Little Rock and Roll"!!ÂĄ!ÂĄ!!!!!!!!!
Theyâll never even find it that way- the actual title is âLittle T&Aâ! Great Keef track.
Look at how young they are! Fing beauty fades but if you have a good heart youâll always be beautiful
That picture of Mick Jagger is from "The Rolling Stones' Rock n' Roll Circus" in late 1968. The performance by the Who at this same concert is maybe the most entertaining rock performance ever filmed in my opinion. They sang "A Quick One While He's Away". The story goes that the Stones felt so upstaged at their own show that they didn't even release the concert footage until years after. Please watch it! Kicks so much ass. PLEASE!
Soul and Funky music with a song written by Chris Stapleton.. Fool me again... What are you listening to... đ¶ đ đł and Whiskey and you â„ïž đ¶... Please đ trust me and you won't regret it...I promise you... Love â€ïž yall đ
This sounds as good today as it did 50+ years ago when I first heard it. The guys in the dorm room next to me had a real stereo; a rarity in those days. This whole album just blew my mind. They're on my Mt. Rushmore with the Beatles, Allman Brothers, and The Band.
Like the gentlemen said below me, from "Beggar" to "Exile" was peak Stones - for 4 years they really did take the Beatles' mantle of Best Rock Band. (I'm not a HUGE fan of the Beatles' last two records.) If they had retired after "Exile on Main Street" in 72 or 73, they would've been even MORE legendary than they are now, I'd bet. This song is perfection.
Lex is a delight, she gets straight into the groove and it's great to watch, she's a hippy chick (in the nicest possible way) just born in the wrong era. Glad that Brad didn't attempt to analyse the lyrics and just enjoyed the sound too.
And that's why the Rolling Stones are the Rolling Stones the greatest band ever
I watch for Lex. She reacts to the music on a visceral level, and that is where Rock lives.
Nicky Hopkins piano playing was superb.
Lex has an old soul hippie vibe in her.
You really need to react to âSheâs a Rainbowâ. The most beautiful song by the stones
I second the recommendation for She's a Rainbow. This song has come back in recent years in commercials. Another totally unique song.
I will forever think of the movie The Big Chill when I hear this song. Great funeral song.
always loved this song. made me feel ok especially when i was down and out. and it is true you often end up getting what you need. smiles and love to you both
it absolutely floors me that there are people in North America that havent heard this song before. how is that possible? it is awesome to watch you react to it but woah
This song and "Sympathy for the Devil" have a very similar sound and are probably my 2 favorite Stones songs . . .
This came put at the same time the Beatles were wrapping up the Beatles/Abbey Road LP. Thus the STones became the greatest Rock n Roll band (CCR as well) in the world. The Let It Bleed LP in 69 was huge and thru 73, the Stones were untouchable.
yup nobody came close
