This was one of the moments in time that were terrific there was Chris Stanton, Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge, Claudia
Lennear, and many other talented musicians and singers that were part of the Mad Dogs and Englishmen. I love Leon Russell and his music and Rita Coolidge had such a beautiful voice.
Joe gave songs a new life. Unique performer, noone like him. Thanks for bringing him out 💙

Weeks out from a US tour, Joe's band in England quit on him. He called Leon Russell in Oklahoma and Leon (the guitar player with the hat in this video) put together Mad Dogs & Englishman. One tour, one album, and a movie. A great snapshot in time.
When I see JC perform I'm watching someone who's feeling the "vibratons" from every instrument in a bigger way than most people are capable of.
Joes movement is like stank face on a blues guitarist. It is a product of the music flowing through him.
This particular JC song brings back so many wonderful memories from my youth , you're right about his music being nostalgic. Next could you react to JC live preforming " Unchain my heart "🔥🔥

Joe Cocker, Percy Sledge and Janis Joplin sang the music I fell asleep to at night when I was young, I had a cool Mom!!
This man was the reason myself and two other 13 year old girls ran off to Woodstock regardless of the consequences would be when we got back home. I'm 67 now and if I could do it again I WOULD.

Joe was a smart guy. He had those back up singers that sounded very soulful and plus he had that raspy voice even though he was from England and not from the blues he sang the blues very well.
Joe was a man possessed. The great Leon Russell was on that stage also
Joe had so much sole. He is my all-time favorite entertainer. Saw him a couple of times.
One was with Janis Joplin. Yes, he used the rasp all time time and sang into his
sixties.
Well I have to start with until I saw Pink Floyd in ‘94 Mad Dogs and Englishmen ‘70 was the best live show I ever saw. Chaos and wonderful music. So I have a soft spot for the performance. But the album , which sounds live is the best. Joe was a wonder to behold.

Great music is great music, and bridges all the artificial issues that divide our people. And about the raspiness in his voice, Cocker had to step back from performing for several years after almost completely blowing out his vocal chords. He came back and went to performing big band numbers, much like Rod Stewart. God bless you for what you do.
I’ll be 60 in a week or so.. and my older stepbrother gave me this album when I was like 12 or 13 years old and I’ve been a lifelong fan ever since Joe Cocker especially this album Maddog and Engelman is next level vocals the band everything.. it doesn’t matter where you come into music you have to like this
Sadly, music executives didn't like Joe's dancing & contortions & wouldn't record him for a few years in favor of bands/musicians who 'looked' cool & hip. True talent sometimes made it through, but otherwise, it was only a look.
You should check out off of that same album she came in through the bathroom window and another song as she wrote me a letter. Those are just next level beautiful songs that gives you goosebumps.

Joe used the raspiness all the time and it did do damage.
So great to see a young Joe Cocker. I'm on my third copy of Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Just the very best, but sometimes hard to watch. Joe was usually very loaded by the time he got onstage. Great reaction!
I read once that Leon was none too nice to Joe, on this tour, for his drug and alcohol use.

Great tour, great movie, but Joe’s voice was never the same after it. His earlier stuff is beautiful.
HEY....IF you really like Joe Cocker, go and find the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" DVD and check out the tour. Joe, Leon Russell and the band, the choir, and ALL of the fun and games of the tour.... I think you'll like it....
George Harrison of the Beatles was a good friend of Joe but said when he first met him, I would never want to meet him in a dark alley

This has to be one of the most covered songs ever. This is the best, though, with Chris Stainton creating the piano parts. The Traffic version written by Dave Mason is the original. Mason in the years since has done this version. The Great Leon Russell (in top hat) and Rita Coolidge (backup vocals). Some of the band members became part of Derek and the Dominoes with Eric Clapton.
Joe wasn't dancing. He was playing air guitar and other instruments.
Air bass, I think. And he was dancing, just letting the music flow through and out of him.
