    At first I was also skeptical about how much content the game will have, but when considering all the factors I'm actually pretty optimistic. First off, the updates for Star Allies finished in November of 2018, meaning that Hal Labs has presumably been working on this game for over 3 years, which is longer then the usual 2 years that we get between Kirby games. Secondly, the Kirby dev team has expanded since Star Allies, they hired some new people. And the file size is apparently larger then Super Mario Odyssey, idk if that really matters but I'm hopeful that this game will be a success.
    Even if it doesn't live up to expectations, it's at least something new and ambitious, something that Kirby's needed for decades.

      @@rubyrogers8879 I don't really know what you're talking about with Planet Robobot considering it's one of the most polished looking games on the 3ds. But yeah, Star Allies could've used a bit more time in the oven imo. I have faith the Kirby dev team will deliver on the KatFL considering how long its been in the works and the quality HAL is known for.

    Glad to see you again Al.
    I agree, although the new Kirby looks to be a really good game I personally hope that Nintendo doesn't overprice us playing a $60 game that we can complete under 2 hours. I played many games in the early 2000's like Super Mario Sunshine and the Sly Cooper series. Both games were extremally replayable and took at least 15 hours to complete without going for the 100% completion. These games were $25-30. With $60 dollars I can buy these two great games and have over 30 hours of total playtime, while nowadays I pay the same $60 for a game I completed under 2 hours and then never again.
    I didn't feel like you were ruining my hype for the new Kirby game, for everyone's opinion is valid. Whether I agree with you or not, I still enjoy watching your vids because your make discussions both fun and professionalized. You make statements that even someone who doesn't agree with you, can agree with such as the pricing.
    Let's just hope that the new Kirby will be priced correctly, even if it's a short game at least don't make it $60.
    Overall great discussion! Let's game more cautiously my bois

    It feels like nintendo is finally stepping out of their "prove to the world we can do the bare minimum" phase they adopted back in 2017. They are running thin on staple franchises that appear on every console and are forced to get creative for the first time in years. Then again, this mirrors the trend of every console since the Wii of getting more inventive in the latter half of a console's life, only to immediately reign themselves back in when the next comes out. It seems like they are trying to break that habit with their press releases of going all in with their current infrastructure and continuing into future generations, but only time will tell on that one.

      If anything Wii U was too inventive, so inventive it actually a pain for 3rd party developers to port games to it.

    I hope this game is good, seeing something truly different for one of nintendo’s franchises since like, breath of the wild gives me some hope. I want this to be the game where we start seeing an upward trend in nintendo’s innovation but I don’t feel too confident about that. This year’s lineup is basically direct sequels to nintendo games that have already worked so idk. The idea of them letting teams get genuinely creative has kind of been dead since they said they wouldn’t let paper mario games make too many new characters, but I can hope they let someone who cares make something cool sooner rather than later.

    I'm a huge fan of Metroid and Metroid Dread has become one of my all time favourite games. But I will absolutely agree with you that it's too short for a $60 game. I live in the UK and it only costs £50 instead of the usual £60, that's obviously still more than $60 when you compare the currencies but it is still a little more lenient for our standards. I think the game should've been £40 instead, it's packed with a metric ton of detail as well as sequence breaks that give the game more replay value, it would definitely be worth £40 in my opinion.
    Glad to see you're back Al. I'm also pretty sceptical of a lot of Nintendo's modern output, ever since the switch launched in fact. I'm not exactly the most optimistic when it comes to corporations and Nintendo specifically has not been good lately. The switch had a fantastic launch but I don't think it's quite living up to its full potential, and it isn't like Nintendo doesn't have the money for it, so I don't exactly see why so many people are so forgiving of their faults.

    • @puffnstuff7905
      @puffnstuff7905 Před 2 lety +10

      I understand what you and Al are saying but there is such a thing as games being unnecessarily long. Not every game has to be a 20 or 50 hour experience, imo Dread is a game that has replay value in 100% the game, how fast you can beat the game, trying different difficulty modes and etc. Super Metorid is actually a similar length to Dread and it follows the same principle in design

    • @ChawedMirthPrattEnterprise
      @ChawedMirthPrattEnterprise Před 2 lety +4

      @@puffnstuff7905 I never said I wanted Dread to be a 20 or 50 hour long experience, if we're gonna stay at the £60 mark then I think 12-15 hours would be just fine. Metroidvanias are usually not that long but that's fine since most of them are below £20 on steam.
      Plus look at it from the angle of the average consumer. They might not have a lot of money so a £60 game could be a big investment; they're gonna be pretty disappointed when they find out the game isn't that long.

    I 100% on the price tag relating to game length. Beforehand you could pay Nintendo about 50$ and at minimum you get a solid 10 hour game no matter which series you play. But nowadays it just leads to more and more shorter games while keeping the whole 60$ tag. A game can look and play nice, but if I complete the game in under 6 hours I feel kinda ripped off. For this upcoming Kirby game I hope they take the Mario odyssey route and make it a long and fun playthrough with many nooks and crannies to explore.

    Having experienced most of the Kirby franchise and I think all of the main line Kirby games, I do have a few things to say about the last 4 Kirby games. Return to dream land was a great step up for Kirby in my opinion, despite being 4 players, I don't think it was designed for 4 players, it was just a bonus, plus some extra chaos for the ride, I completed the game 100% EX and True arena included 5 times already, fantastic music.
    Triple deluxe is what I would say is another step up for Kirby, more creative boss fights, new attack patterns using the foreground and back ground together, more creative level design, despite being single player. Not to mention the story happening in the background which doesn't affect the gameplay, it's simply there if you want to see it and I adore that, fantastic music btw.
    Robobot I think is the perfection of the 2d Kirby formula, they went all out for Robobot, increadibly creative bosses, (clanky woods is an awesome first boss), an amazing final boss plus extremely difficult post game, yet again fantastic sound track, this is also the game where they finally tested the waters of 3d Kirby for the second time in years. Eventually even getting it's own little side game, so I knew a 3d Kirby was coming.
    Star allies is I think, a goodbye to 2d Kirby for now, despite it's flaws it was enjoyable especially with others by your side, however, if I am correct, this was Hal's first attempt at a multiplayer focused game, and it didn't turn out as great as the past games, so much so that I think it's by far the weakest game mainline game of the franchise for the time it was released. To me, Kirby shouldn't be designed around multiplayer, it can have multiplayer that make certain parts of the game easier sure, but having it designed around a single person is probably where it can truly shine, not even the mighty super star/ultra are designed around multiplayer, despite having the power to have a second player, you can clear most if not all of the game 100% without a helper by your side.
    Star allies may not have been the ultimate 2d Kirby, but it was still HAL's goodbye to 2d Kirby so that, at least for now, they can move on to something bigger and better.
    I think forgotten land will be amazing, however it is very fine to be skeptical after stat allies, but having played all main line Kirby games to completion, some multiple times, I have a feeling that HAL ain't going to disappoint, especially since they have been testing the waters of 3d for a few years now.
    I think they are ready for this.
    Edit:Also Whispy woods is an iconic first boss so of course some variation of him would exist in forgotten land, is a stable of the series at this point
    Edit2:If they mess it up then it's a shame I was wrong from Hal.

    This game looks like it may have a hefty amount of content, (possibly). There appears to be a bunch of side areas in each world which most likely lead to challenge levels. This will certainly add length to each world. Add that with the coins you have to collect to get all the figurines and this will hopefully be at least a 10 hour story mode without the side stuff. At the end of the day tho at least lives are gone, glad they took that step forward.

  • @Fruutblossom
    @Fruutblossom Před 2 lety +1

    Personally I prefer judging a game by its quality rather than its length. Doom Eternal comes to my mind, a 10 hour game that I feel is well worth $60. But I definitely understand wanting a longer game.

    Very valid points as always. Didn't think about the length of the game beforehand. Hopefully it meets up to that price tag. Gonna stay hopefully optimistic though.

    It's so great to finally see you back again, most especially here on CZcams! It just doesn't feel the same not seeing you online but I totally respect the deserving break you took from all the terrible things with both Nintendo and the community and most importantly, your life! I also hope you feel better from COVID-19, I've been trying very hard to avoid it by staying indoors mostly.
    You're always welcome to critique anything especially your videos which I am so glad to see a new one, in fact, I'm here to watch them so I can also learn to be a better critic as well! You aren't ruining my hype one bit! As long as people respectfully disagree as I would, you should be fine :)
    Twitter is an awful garbage dump and the community will argue with almost anything these days positive or negative, they are a bunch of brats. While CZcams has its trolls here and there. CZcams has a better community than Twitter I can say especially from Demeech he's been seeing.
    I'm surprised you didn't say anything about Mario Party Superstars in the video? but it's no problem.
    All Mario Golf Super Rush is doing now is drip-feeding one alternate costume or 1-3 color variations per month by grinding enough Online Points and the "content" they kept adding just stopped with the only last characters being Wiggler and Shy Guy and one inspired Mario course, so much for Diddy Kong and Birdo hehe...
    I have to agree that Metroid Dread could've been a bit longer to be worth the $60 price tag, it is a little bit longer if you 100% it but that is only so much. But the game is certainly a step in the right direction at least! What you said about WarioWare G.I.T I agree, it's great they finally innovated the game since WarioWare Smooth Moves but it was quite underwhelming with both content and the main story length. Not to mention Wario lacked voice acting for some reason...?
    I have to disagree on Super Mario 3D World being too short at least to some degree. Trying to 100% the game is actually a bit long especially beating every 5 characters with each level and the mystery houses unless you have 4 players in all levels and bubble the other 3-players until you get close to the Goal Poles after you beat the levels with one player (or the other way around) with Rosalina being the odd-numbered character making it 5.
    Kirby and the Forgotten Land does seem to be using 3D World's linearity but the levels in some areas look somewhat explorable than 3D World's to some degree and I don't think it's a big problem since it's trying to do some new things while still keeping the spirit of the core Kirby games I would've loved for it to be sandbox at least but it's not a terrible start at least. Hopefully, its length is reasonable to be justified for the price, the game has lots of potentials and I am still hyped for the game! I do hope this Kirby game is innovated well and leave us with some hope that Nintendo's IPs get more creative and a bit experimental again after the 2010s being very safe and nostalgic with some of their games, but I'm not very confident...but I hope I end up dead wrong!
    Though Modern Nintendo's business side in the future is honestly very scary to see what happens next especially the way they are overpricing the expansion pack and its constant drip-feeding of one game per month or more(?). I didn't even touch the expansion pack of so-called either unless it gets fixed but I doubt it, they keep saying in their press releases that they are fixing it but it's either minimally better or worse so I don't really believe them until i fully see it!.

I also am excited for Kirby also of course, but I saw you scared about arceus. And you know what, that’s fair. But it looks like such a departure that we desperately need. It’ll feel so much more like we’re actually in the world, Y’know? Anyways, great video!

    Length is definitely going to be a main factor for me. I've been getting into PC games recently and my Switch has only been touched for new releases that I didn't touch after I beat the main content (WarioWare, Dread). I was going to pick it up day 1, but now I'm not so sure.
    I'm hoping Kirby will be a good game, but we've been burned too much in the past for me to be fully optimistic about it.

    The wario ware complaintnis dumb because it’s the same as super smash bros, you can knock the main story out in a couple hours and then your done, you can go for high scores in side modes or 100% but the main “thing” is only some hours long, because it’s a party game. It’s supposed to be beaten quickly so you can play what you want when you want, I do agree with the Metroid and Kirby star allies complaints though

    • @UncleAlPlus
      @UncleAlPlus  Před 2 lety +2

      Ehh yea but Smash is a fighting game, the outcomes of each match are ever changing and there's a lot of strategy and development involved. Something like WarioWare, there's not really much to the microgames. It gets very repetitive very quickly when you're doing the same games over and over. But, to each their own, that's just how I felt about the game personally.

    I am excited for Forgotten Land, it's a fully 3D mainline Kirby game! Playing all the other entries they've put out in recent years, it's been clear to see how they've been experimenting with how Kirby operates in a 3D space.
    I can't wait to see how it turns out, and I definitely can't wait to see what other games come after this one. It doesn't look as ambitious as something like Breath of the Wild, but Zelda has been experimenting with 3D gameplay and large worlds for over 20 years and was probably relatively easy to move to that sort of gameplay to begin with.
    Kirby is trickier because he has free flight, which causes problems in open level design. But then his flight is also very slow and not very offensive either without the right ability, so that means it's hard to do fun level design with his flight in mind as well I'm sure. In my mind, 3D Kirby with open level design sounds pretty difficult to get quite right!

    Good vid but I disagree kinda/
    I think the main campaign should be short. Kirby is aimed at kids, after all, and are usually pretty short. Plus, it means they can try and not stretch out the concept because I think if it was longer, then it would be monotous.
    However, like other kirby games like return to dreamland give the player a BUNCH of stuff to do post game, and reward those who don't want to just beat the game so they have something to do. The minigame in the clip has me excited.

    Take it from someone who loves the Kirby series and almost every main entry, this change needed to happen. This formula has been going on for over 30 years, and the 3ds games brought it to it absolute extreme. Even as a hardcore fan I agree that Star Allies sucked. It is one of the most bland, lazy, mindnumming games I've ever played, and the cool final boss and added content does not make up for how lane the campaign was. It was proof that the 2D formula had been exhausted, and the series was in need of a massive shift. This is definitely a step in the right direction,

    i feel like kirby and the forgotten land will have a lot of potential especially when you take into account that this was being made for a hot minute and hal has always wanted to make a fully 3d kirby experience since the gamecube era and with the amount of detail that seems to be going into it i have high hopes for this (also the lack of star allies stuff may have attributed to this since immediately following it was a remake of a free to play kirby game and a remake of a kriby fighting game which likely means that they were working on this since at least the end of star allies) also with this it feels like the devs genuinely wanted to do this whereas with pokemon they're just doing the pokemon breath of the wild concept out of obligation since thats what people wanted from the series since breath of the wild first came out
