As a longtime Kirby fan, I'm really glad this game is getting a lot of positive attention from people who fell off of the series and people who've never played a Kirby game before. This is the game the franchise has desperately needed for WAAAAAAAAAAAYYY too long, and it delivered beautifully. This feels like the anti-modern video game, and even the anti-modern Nintendo game in some ways. No DLC, no microtransactions, no promise of free updates, and not even a day one patch. It's just a pure complete game with a ton of passion from start to finish. Some of the level themes are pretty generic, and I wish there was more to do with the copy abilities, but that's where a sequel could easily fix things.

I really don't understand how people fell off of the Kirby franchise in the first place. For the life of me, I can't think of anything that'd cause people to drop off outside of maybe Star Allies... the game that immediately preceded this one. It's been nothing but good games since RtDL.

it’s nearly an perfect example of how to make a 3D game I think personally. It tells you what to do without being too overbearing, levels are simple yet expansive with many waddle dees, and secrets, in nearly every area (HAL rooms and secret paths), the bosses feel perfect as it slowly escalates the difficulty until it hits its end, both the main and post game are equally good, if not (post game) better, as it doesn’t feel like an panning out of a game and the ending feels perfect for the characters, the music, especially roar of dedede, is probably one of Kirby’s best musical outings and the graphics are beautiful which is shown from the building at the start with the music starting at the beginning of this new adventure. I do thing the whole “you get hit by boss, go back to the hub and back to boss level” is a bit annoying, especially for the last no hit boss if your not skilled at the balance of dodge and attack, (without spoilers) some of the beast pack do feel way overshadowed by their other members, and the multiplayer is a bit annoying as one playing can use many abilities but another can only use spear(which is still pretty fun) and the camera can get super annoying for the bandana Dee. However I can forgive that slightly as it would be difficult to corporate the mouthful mode with two kirbies and it looks like bandana Dee is becoming the Luigi of the Kirby franchise which isn’t bad as he is still a lovable bean. Still a really good game, one of the Nintendo switch’s best games, and a better and upgraded game over star allies which is still good but just wasn’t expansive Enough before DLC and even then it can still feel a bit dull compared the return to dreamland and the 3d games. Probably one of my favourite games and would be my favourite game if it wasn’t for I-ninja (underrated XBOX, PS2, GameCube game, personally). I hope this allowed for more in the future for 3d Kirby mechanics, design and with maybe some Kirby characters returning like adeleine and ribbon, I hope these standards are kept for the future.

Really hope HAL does with Kirby what ID Software did with Doom as both companies struggled to conceptualize transitioning their games, Doom in the modern era and Kirby in 3D. Doom 2016 had the foundation of a boomer shooter in the modern age and from what they learned on the previous title they managed to refine the gameplay for Doom:Eternal, and hopefully HAL could do the same if they attempt another 3D-based Kirby game.

I love how the 3d aspect gives more room to hide collectables, like behind buildings, and honestly, was a blast to play. got to 100% completion and even then, i was still interested in the true area since the different abilities give some variety to how bosses can be defeated

  • @darthtazer
    @darthtazer Před 2 lety +2

Kirby was a surprisingly fun game to go through. The fact that even though I have a 100% save file there are still secrets and hidden areas I have missed fills me with genuine excitement and makes me want to get back in there and explore the whole game again.
This has honestly been the first time in a very long time I've felt truly satisfied in a Kirby game. They shed alot of bad old habits (i.e. heavy reliance on fan service, powers just to fill a quota, etc) and took some huge risks in this game that I feel paid off.
I agree with the Co-op issue. My little brother and I played through the game and I felt really bad when he had trouble keeping up with Bandana Waddle Dee's location. They definitely could have handled the multiplayer aspect better but I'm still very glad it's in the game.
And also the music was boppin'. Roar of Dedede and the Surviving Guardian are absolute joys to listen to.

Might not be my personal favorite Kirby game (that honor probably still goes to Kirby Triple Deluxe on the 3DS) but it’s surprisingly tightly designed for Kirby’s first 3D game that I have no problem in admitting it’s definitely one of the BEST he’s been in years. Definitely blows the textbook example of autopilot that is Kirby Star Allies that’s for sure (despite that game’s respectable/charming amount of fan service). Basically what I’m saying is, first 3D Kirby is great, yeah yeah pretty great! 👍

Okay, I’ve beaten the main game and I’m going to start trying to get the rest of the Waddle Dees, do the Postgame, and the other Arena challenges.
But what are my thoughts? I really love this game, the controls are perfect, it feels so good to run around, and the dodge roll is a really cool thing to pull off, especially if you time it right, time slows down, and you get extra hits in. I love the new upgraded copy abilities, I personally feel this sense of progression and I just loved seeing how my abilities improved as I got more of the scrolls, and mouthful mode is a really creative and fun gimmicks.
The level themes are probably some of the most creative I’ve seen in a while, they look really beautiful here. The level design itself is so expansive, so many hidden secrets and probably some I haven’t discovered yet at the moment of writing this comment.
Even the mini games and side content are both kinda fun, the fishing one is really addicting to press the buttons as quickly as possible. The cooking one is kinda neat, but challenging at the harder difficulties. The tilting ball one, I haven’t gotten much into, but it looks interesting. The arena and the bosses in this game are so well done, timing the dodge roll perfectly and just going to town against a coconut tree, a giant gorilla, a leopard performer, the grand knight Meta Knight, and King Dedede himself (Who in my opinion has the best redesign in this game).
This game is not only becoming my favorite Kirby game, but one of my favorite games of all time. I’m looking forward to doing the post game content soon. Sorry this comment doesn’t go over everything, but I just wanted to get my thoughts out on this game.

Your thoughts on this game are kinda similar to mine. I'm really glad I got this game. I've pretty thoroughly enjoyed my time playing it. And while the abilities are certainly lacking (especially in comparison to past Kirby games) I think all of the abilities are incredibly well done in their 3D debut (Hammer being my personal favorite). And later on, I personally was able to get slused to how few abilities there were and I kinda forgot there weren't that many.

The funny part is, the only reason there are less Mini bosses are most likely due to the smaller ability count. If we had more abilities we would probably have more midbosses (look at Super Kirby Clash) there are plenty of mid bosses to draw from, but they have a lot of abilities tied to them. Like you said, maybe the future game will have more abilities to offer (as I expect)

IMO this is one of the best Kirby games Ive played. Stands right up there with 64, Superstar Ultra and Robobot and may even dethrone them in a lot of ways. The game in it of itself is a great all in one package, and Im glad that it came complete unlike a lot of the modern Nintendo stuff (though Mario Party Superstars and Metroid Dread were both very concise games that came out last year so maybe were almost out of the woods for these "free update" type games).
This was pretty much the only ""triple A" game that I was looking to play this year so i hope Nintendo can pull through with some solid stuff in a summer Direct this year (i dont give a molecule of a shit about pokemon gen 9 lmao). But if not eh, theres still some indies and my embarrassingly big backlog to take down so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Definitely a great game and arguably the best game from the pink puffball so far
Something of note, which is a little spoilery but not for story elements, that I feel is necessary is that there are a couple ability upgrades for sword and hammer that unlock after the main story that do kind of change the way how those respective abilities feel which is a welcome change. If something of a similar vane were there for every single ability, then I believe that would be much more welcome and give me incentive to use an ability other than hammer supremacy, possibly even granting replay value to improve with those hypothetical upgrades and blitz through enemies as fast as possible.

My only gripe with the game is that I wish the story was a bit more dispersed throughout the game. HAL is focusing on world building in the recent Kirby games, but have a tendency to shove most of it at the end of the game and this one is no different.

    SPOILER:
I will say though while I mostly had the same critiques, my biggest problem with the whole game was honestly that the last real world was a lava level. It feels so stereotypical and Kirby games have like, never done that before? The last world of 64, which was definitely the Kirby this game was most inspired by, had some crazy castle designs and popping colors. But I will say FL's final boss definitely did not disappoint.

imo Kirby and the Forgotten Land is if you took Super Mario 3D World and added more interesting stuff to collect and made it....fun? I shared most of the issues you had as a Completionist, but I was also shocked by how little the game had in the Powerup department. Many iconic powers like Fighter, Rock, and Plasma just didn't make the cut which felt weird. Hopefully this game gets some type of update or DLC since I really wanted to experience wheel in 3D

To be honest I’m happy with the amount of Hats and eating transformations there are the transformation sections are memorable the power ups as a kirby fan the upgraded power ups are great while not all of them change largely mechanically i’m kind happy for that too power ups in kirby have not only been kinda pointless unless it’s hammer the past few games along with the chip damage and useless combos in the previous games honestly it wasn’t as fun to inhale things, Making me appreciate the return to basics. For me I think they need to being back the ability to hold power ups it sucked when you had to give up something you’d power up on for something weaker if you were required for a secret.

I disagree immensely with the power ups in this game: not only making just like 12 i think make the power ups we do have to be more integrated with the level and not just make the game easier or just add a billion power ups just for the sake of it. Wich i get that's the best things about the previous games I'm aware experimenting with a lot of abilities are a lot of fun but again it does make the one we do have more focus to the levels and with upgrades just amplify the fun factor. And i also disagree with all the upgrades being just the same but much powerful- HAVE YA SEEN SOME OF THE LATER UPGRADES???? Some of the upgrades are absolutely insane on top of being war shattering!

Loved Forgotten Land. Its not planet robobot levels of good but still in my top 3 kirby games. Its so weird to me how star allies is just stuck in between the 2 best kirby games. God I hate star allies. Not because it is a bad game or anything (because it is merely just a decent game,) but for the fact that it single handedly ruined the series reputation when it came to the 2d kirby games. Its very likely that HAL might not ever return to a pure 2d kirby game once again, planet robobot was when I personally think 2d kirby peaked and it showed that HAL was able to keep things fresh after all these years but due to it being a 3ds game in 2016 it wasn't a huge hit and went under the radar. Despite that I am still happy to see so many newcomers to the series and the strong sales of Forgotten Land. I think this game was the very game to push kirby into being one of nintendo's big franchises alongside Mario, Legend of Zelda, Splatoon and so on. Now it is surely time for Donkey Kong to make that leap.

The multiple ways this game tries to cheaply increase it's length is a turn off for me.
This is Nintendo we are talking about. Giant gaming conglomerate. If a small indie company can include a retry button on bosses for example then so can Nintendo.

    • @POIUYTREWQ62
      @POIUYTREWQ62 Před 2 lety +1

I wouldn't say it was a way to cheaply increase length.
The game isn't geared to people who want to complete (Most games aren't), hence the general audience won't really need a "Retry" button since they won't care about completion.
That isn't to say Nintendo shouldn't have added one (and they might in the future), but saying it was a deliberate choice to cheaply increase the games length is just a wrong thing to say.
It's not like nintendo or HAL or whoever was up in their offices, rubbing their hands together, and going "We will not put in a retry button in order to increase the length of the game".
Any game will always have oversights like that.
If anything, blame the people who playtested it.
Same goes for any other ways you think the game "Cheaply Increases Length".
There's always a better explanation than "The team just wanted to cheaply increase length of the game".
