The main source of revenues for clubs are Prize/TV money.. Where is this coming from? Do you think that TV companies are paying for the Premier League (EPL) out of the goodness of their hearts ??
Before the EPL there was No TV subscriptions.. When the EPL started fans had only to pay for ONE subscription (aprox £150/year).. The Champions League was on Free TV… Now they are paying for 3 subscriptions (sky, Amazon and BT aprox £850/year)..
Furthermore the TV companies have to increase their advertising rates in order to generate revenues to pay for those TV deals and thus the advertising cost (of goods and services) will ultimately be passed on to customers (fans).. Is it a coincidence that there is a cost of living crisis in the UK??
Again football economics is not insulated .. with footballers earning higher and higher wages and their purchasing power being much higher that will impact prices on everything.. Look at cities like London and Manchester hardly anyone can afford to live in them
There will come a time when TV companies will turn around and say “we can't afford paying for the EPL rights”.. As fewer people are watching TV and streaming games illegally (because they can't afford the subscription) the whole thing will collapse..

Broadly what Lee says is right. FFP does by its very nature keep the big clubs at the top and makes it harder for the smaller clubs to move up
BUT
I agree more with Terry. The quickest way for a ‘smaller’ club to get big is to have a rich owner put lots of money into them. This hyper inflates the transfer market, not just for the bigger clubs but the smaller ones too. Also rich owners with poor management of the clubs can put them into much more debt if there was no regulation.
Lee is right when he says that not many well supported clubs have hit the wall… but off the top of my head many have come close. Derby County, Portsmouth, Bolton. If Everton get relegated I’d be worried about them too. Around £500m net spend on players in the last 5 years and entering into long term commitments for a new stadium… they will struggle.

It’s funny ffp was brought in to stop clubs overspending to the point of bankruptcy, living beyond your means. Lee I get but is wrong rules are rules, Terry is correct and saying the same as the rest of us.
I understand both sides here, because what Lee is saying is if, for example a club is only allowed to spend 75% of their revenue , then that's a disadvantage to a club making less profits because maybe Brentford's 100% only equates to man city's 25% but what Terry is saying is small clubs like that need to find other means to grow the club other than just spending more money and whether the rules are shitty or not, rules are rules and they exist, you can't only point out how shitty they're when you broke them or get caught on the wrong side, why not call it all out way before?

anyone who supports FFP, wants Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal to be the most successful clubs from the day they are a born till the day they die. FFP is an elitist concept to keep the successful teams successful.
It takes decades of success and good decisions about how to build a club. If things were run by Lee Gunner any team who is fortunate enough to be bought by a wealthy owner will skip that process other teams had to go through and that’s what is unfair to the other smaller clubs. Why should Accrington Stanley get to pass a club like Brighton just because a country buys them and spends absurd amounts. How is that fair to Brighton who took the time to build something and wasn’t bought by a country
Essentially you’re saying only clubs that happen to be bought by insanely wealthy people should have a chance. What happens to the clubs who don’t have multi billionaires owners?

You want billionaires to buy small clubs and pump absurd amounts of money into them while the other small clubs who weren’t bought by multi billionaires sit there and watch.
I want the clubs to be on an even playing field while you want some clubs to have a huge advantage over others when it comes to growing their brand. This is competitive sports not normal businesses where you might make sense if that’s what we were talking about.
You can’t get relegated or promoted if you own a hardware store. There’s no trophy at the end of the season if you own a dry cleaning business. Stop pretending that those are the same things as sports

Tbh both have a point. Ffp is a bit of a nonsense rule which has pros and cons. Im not keen on it however its a rule that has been broken so city should have to deal with circumstances. I dont agree with parking tickets for example as we pay road tax etc but its a rule and ultimately we gotta abide or deal with the consequences

Bayern the most well run club for decades makes less in TV revenue than most teams in the championship yet they are able to attract players and youth constantly and be dominant. United/Chelsea and Liverpool has global fan bases and nobody looks at why do have that… you have teams with triple the resources who are nowhere near their level it’s peak
Lee has to understand that running a football club is beyond injecting funds and investments. Football is a game of passion and a sports that revolves around the people (fans). Using Lee's example, if you end up injecting your 150mil cash into the Lighter Business and it fails, you would be forced to declare bankrupcy and close the company. Now imagining a football club finding themselves in the situation of having to declare bankrupcy; the club's history, the global fanbase and its identity will be lost in time. I would hate that to happen to my club and I wouldn't wish that on any football club as well. I am not justifying the ruthlessness of the FFP or how its currently affecting Man City but I understand why these rules had to be established and I believe it was made with the league's interest at heart. Its unfortunate that Man City are the victims but I believe they should have done better.
@Selina Mtsweni At the moment, of course they're the best run club in the League with a big financial book especially on operational expenditures. Now, hypothetically speaking, what do you think will happen to that financial book on the long-term when they decide to pull the plug or sell to an owner that isn't committed to investing into the club as the current owners do??? The Football club's revenue and fan base wouldn't be enough to generate that level of revenue to stabilize the club and their operations. Like I said before, I'm not justifying the rule. Is the FFP rule a BS? Maybe. But the rules are already there and it wouldn't justify what City did if the allegations end up being true. Rather than find loopholes and break the rules, a better approach will be protesting against those rules and getting them cancelled/erased or modified to accommodate the ever changing football market.

Remember that football ⚽️ and any other sporting discipline is about business, and within a business they have dividends which is earned or generated by creating a division, hence they create schemes and initiatives to satisfy a few whilst trying to regulate others, however in a business is it about making money 💰 and even though you might have owners or shareholders who are billionaires they have different formulas and strategies of how to invest their billions in order to attract more billions, so it is about doing the samethings differently and the consumers are being deceived that they are differences without even realizing the similarities.......

A while ago I commented saying Terry should take Lee to task. I would like to say I don't feel Lee is a bad person Fundermentally. In my option misguided, confrontational and poor listening skill yes. But he is entitled to a view. I don't think he is completely wrong , just mostly. I have scrolled through the comments , most Pro Lee seem a bit base . I think Terry mentioned about Pundits doing their job. Lee if you're reading this . your job isn't to be right all the time it's to provide an objective view and sometimes go OK maybe I got it wrong. While what you mentioned is true, isn’t life itself already unfair? It takes you 20years to build a house, brick by brick by yourself. A rich kid spends 1mil to hire workers to build the very same house in 1 month. Nobody likes that, it’s unfair but that’s how the world is isn’t it? Money talks unfortunately. I get that it’s a competition but how are smaller clubs going to compete when they are limited to their profits? You can say that you develop your own stars and sell them big but which talented kid would want to sign for the small club academy when the appeal of power clubs are too much to resist? I’m from Asia and clubs from the big 6 are huge here while clubs outside the top 6 are pretty much non existent in terms of fans and popularity. Life itself is a competition too, a competition to survive.
