The Most SLEPT ON College Prospect in the 2019 NBA Draft | Matisse Thybulle | Strengths and Weakness

  • Matisse Thybulle currently leads all current NCAA players in career steals , ranks among the favorites to win national defensive player of the year and has become only the third player in the last 20 years to average two steals and two blocks.
    Should he maintain his averages of at least 3 steals and 2 blocks a game, he would become the first player in 20 years to average 3/2
    And the guy who’s on pace to crushing that record? The 6’5 guard with a 7-FOOT wingspan, Matisse Thybulle
    Thybulle is on pace to beating the conference record of 321 by Hall of Famer, Gary Payton. He’s one of the best disruptors in the Pac-12 during his time and one of the most feared defenders in the NBA during his time.
    This senior guard is arguably the most disruptive force in all of college basketball outside Zion Williamson and scouts are already starting to take notice after the Washington Huskies are on the top of their conference and on pace to making the NCAA tournament

    Him and Zhaire Smith defensively could be pretty exciting...if they both develop any sort of reliable 3pt shooting next to a creator like Ben that is a big addition. Sixers were getting killed by small guards and players not gguarded by Ben and if you throw in picks Ben is a non factor against guys who drive and have mid games...guys like this would be great helps.

  • @williamquinn7826
    @williamquinn7826 Před 5 lety +30

    He's exactly the type of role player that the 76ers need to draft at pick #24 if he's still there but most Mock draft's that I saw had him being drafted by the 76ers he sounds like a better perimeter defender then Ziare Smith is going to be but not as much offense potential with all of Ziare's SUPER ATHLETICISM but like I said he's a perfect to come off the bench and even come in when the starters are on the floor and help Ziare Smith lock down the perimeter together and then have a healthy and in better shape Joel Embid in the middle guarding the rim and dominating the post on offense and spread the floor with maybe JJ Riddick and Tobias Harris as a stretch 4 to help space the floor more if he decides to re-sign here and if the Sixers decide to re-sign. I think Butler is a good leader but I think we could use the money and find somebody younger and more years ahead of them and cheaper also . So yeah I would be very happy if they would Draft this guy at pick 24 or a little bit before if we have to move up a couple spots the draft to in sure that we get him. A lot of other Mock draft's have us drafting Cam Johnson probably one of the best shooter's in this draft. Like how we found Landry Shamit last year then traded a rookie that came in to the NBA and Shot light's out all dam year and then we traded him a a couple of 1rst Rnd. Picks that that we basically gave away for might turn out to be a half of a season rental player and lose all that and if Harris doesn't re-sign with us then it will turn out to be nothing at all and that's going to suck bad . I did not want to trade Shamit at all for anyone at all . Because it's so rare to find a rookie come into the NBA and Shot right from the start as good as did for us. Then with the Clippers he got even more playing time and played even better and he's capable of doing a lot more on offense then just be a jump shooter he can play some point pretty good also so ya I'm ranting about Shamit's trade last year I'm sorry. I'm just still really pissed off about it. Because if we still had him in the next coming season then we probably wouldn't be forced to re-sign JJ RIDDICK this coming FA period to a 10 million dollar contract for the same exact player on the second year of a rookie contract. Nothing against JJ I'm just taking about cap space to have more money to pay for a better bench and maybe Klay Thompson was in my dream's and hopes because I know that Kawi Lendord isn't even going to consider signing here after winning a Championship with the Raptors. No chance for us. Sorry !!!

Both were very raw on offense with there strength being there natural gifts and athleticism to pair with there defensive motor making them lock down defenders. Matisse was also teammates with Dejounte Murray before so I think that connection would be dope to see. I think that he fits the 76ers and how they want to play perfectly. He does have nice form on his 3 point shot but they just don't fall. He needs to learn to dribble better and stop making turnovers. He hustles on defense like nobody I ever saw . He'll let his guy get past him on purpose just to steal the ball from behind or blocks the shot from behind also. His defense is very contagious to the team. If he ever gets a decent offensive game I could see him being a sixth man of the year and all defensive team player almost every year. But he still needs a lot of work on offense if he wants to be anything more then that. But he's a great role player for the Sixers who are trying to win a championship and defense wins championships in every sport.

    Okc apparently mad a promise to draft him and he would definitely impact the team instantly because pg won't be taking such a beating like he did this year and so that he can worry more on offense that's why Roberson was so important to this team and adding multiple role players is a great move I'd rather draft an older play than someone like Tyer Hero

  • @1survivor566
    @1survivor566 Před 5 lety +5

    I'm a big fan of his game. He's a really good 3 & D NBA prospect. He reminds me of Shane Battier a little bit. He's good athlete, long arms, runs the floor... but the best thing about his game in my opinion is his defensive instincts. Especially in off ball defense. He has this natural ability where he just instinctively knows where a pass is going, when a shot is coming, etc before it happens.
    The only concerns I have on an NBA level with him are...
    Offense- He doesn't have an advanced offensive skill set. But if he can knock down a 3 and play D it shouldn't stop him from being very productive in the NBA. It just limits his ceiling and role a little bit
    Can he adapt to man to man defense?- This is the bigger concern. Washington plays a lot of zone. But he'll have to man up in the NBA. And its hard to know if his defensive production will translate. Personally I think that it will on some level because of his size, athleticism and instincts. We'll have to wait and see though.
    I'd love to see my Jazz take him. Add him to an already elite defensive team.

If we couldn't land a real game changer at the center spot, dedmon had a great year with us a few years back and would be a great fit if the money was right. I dont think he would hamper Jakobs development either since they could alternate depending on the matchups. Pipe dream scenario, they somehow move on from Mills-Marco contracts, draft a young hardnosed SF like Thybulle, somehow create some cap space for a player like Vucevic to pair with LMA down low, bring Rudy back, and use the MLE on another complimentary rotation player in the F/PF spot. Obviously the Vucevic scenario is way out there...

    I'm not big on players under 6'8 who cannot handle the ball well and has streaky shooting. He is essentially a Robert Covington clone but only in a 6'5 frame (though he seems to be more comfortable handling the ball more than Covington). He is abnormally long but he isn't a great cutter either his offensive game will be very limited, isn't a great passer so look for teams to pressure him when he has the ball. Doesn't have a long stride so when run off the 3 point line hard he cannot get to the basket before the help side comes to block the shot or take the charge. He has a spot up balance on shooting rather than a true shooter's balance (core provides better balance to square up to the hoop on the move than your legs) so running down screens for him will not work much either. The Sixers needed shooting to help replace a player like JJ Redick but instead shrunk the floor even further with a 22 year old defensive minded streaky jumpshooter with a very limited offensive game who likely will only be able to improve on his cutting to the basket and shooting percentages on offense. The Sixers had drafted a similar high ceiling low floor potential "3 &D" prospect last year in Zaire Smith, they needed shooting and shot creators off the bench to help them score and they failed to acquire both. Personally I wanted Kevin Porter as his worst case scenario was an offensive scorer off the bench with average NBA size with the ability to create his own shot and shots for others. The only way this off-season is a success for the Sixers now is if they resign both Butler and Harris ( hopeful but not likely) and use the MLE to get a good player who can shoot off the catch ( like Danny Green, Kyle Korver or JR Smith when they buy the latter two out in their partially guaranteed contract) or use it on a player like George Hill who can double down as a second unit point guard along with Butler as McConnell's lack of range proved to be a real weakness in the playoffs despite his great energy.

    First of all, in terms of presentation, I don't at all like being asked to subscribe before you show any content, and the 2K footage is utterly pointless (IMO, maybe other viewers like it, but I doubt it). Show more tape of the player. [Ah ok I see your pinned comment now]
    You're also way overrating Thybulle. He has hit that floater shot like 4 times in his entire career. His offense consists only of the three, and like you mentioned, he's below average from there. His ceiling is high because of his body and athleticism but he's likely to be a poor offensive player, but a lockdown defender. To say his floor is Andre Roberson is ridiculous, especially because Roberson is a highly valuable player, he might be the best perimeter defender in the NBA. He's only slightly less valuable than Danny Green, who you mention as thybulle's ceiling.
    In truth Thybulle's floor is like, David Nwaba with a better body. An above average NBA bench defender with hardly any offense, who no one knows if he'll stay in the league year to year. I think the he will likely be the next Trevor Ariza. Play great D, great wingspan, not a very good handle, can shoot the 3 pretty consistently.

      Regarding the sub placement: Appreciate the constructive feedback on that one man! I'll definitely take that into consideration. Will make the necessary adjustments to that.
      Hmm. Andre Roberson doesn't have any jumper to his game. Not to mention his FT has a lowlights video on its own. He's just an amazing defender but that's it. Hence him being the floor comparison for Thybulle. We can disagree
      I didn't get to think about Trevor Ariza and after looking at it, I can agree with you on this one. Nwaba and Ariza look like good comparisons as well.
